The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Sales of existing homes perked up nationally and across the South in September -- but not in metro Atlanta.

Both sales volume and median sales price in metro Atlanta area fell for the month compared to September 2008, the National Association of Realtors said.

Sales were off 4 percent, while the median price fell nearly 13 percent year-over-year, according to the report.

In the South, existing-home sales rose 10.8 percent in September from a year earlier, the report said, although the median price was down more than 7 percent.

Nationally, sales volume rose by the same percentage, while the median existing-home price fell nearly 9 percent.
