Property crime far outweighs violent incidents

Atlanta neighborhoods each have their own unique relationship with crime.

To better show how crime affects neighborhoods differently, we broke down 2009 Atlanta crime incident reports by type of crime and neighborhood.

Twenty two neighborhoods have experienced homicides so far in 2009. Downtown and Midtown vastly outnumber other Atlanta neighborhoods for the most larcenies and auto thefts.

Aggravated Assault

  • Downtown – 58 incidents
  • English Avenue – 45 incidetns
  • Old Fourth Ward – 42 incidetns
  • Thomasville Heights – 37 incidetns
  • Grove Park – 34 incidents
  • Bankhead – 32 incidetns
  • Pittsburgh – 31 incidents
  • Sylvan Hills – 28 incidents
  • Oakland City – 27 incidents
  • Kirkwood – 25 incidents

Homicide

  • Bankhead – 4 incidents
  • Midtown – 3 incidents
  • Browns Mill Park – 2 incidents
  • Lindridge/Martin Manor – 2 incidents
  • 18 neighborhoods had one homicide in 2009

Rape

  • Downtown – 4 incidents
  • Old Fourth Ward – 3 incidents
  • Bankhead – 2 incidents
  • English Avenue – 2 incidents
  • Lakewood Heights – 2 incidents
  • Adair Park – 2 incidents
  • Almond Park – 2 incidents
  • Sandlewood Estates – 2 incidents
  • South Atlanta – 2 incidents
  • 32 neighborhoods had one reported rape in 2009

Note: The Atlanta Police Department suppresses some rape incidents from their data due to privacy and legal concerns.
