Athens woman accused of stabbing roommate to death

An Athens woman was stabbed to death in her home Tuesday morning -- and police have charged her roommate with the murder.

According to Athens-Clarke police Capt. Clarence Holeman, police responded to a call around 10 a.m. Tuesday from Candie Scott, 26, who reported someone was "injured" at her house in southeastern Clarke County.

When police arrived, they found Candice Armour, 27, bleeding from a single stab wound in her side, Holeman said. She was still alive and rushed to Athens Regional Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 11:14 a.m.

Scott, who was Armour's roommate, was charged with malice murder, felony murder and aggravated assault.

Holeman said he wanted to leave details on how authorities determined Scott stabbed Armour "until court proceedings were over."

Athens police are considering the stabbing a domestic incident and would not discuss motives for the stabbing.

Holeman said the suspect's child was at the home during the stabbing, but would not discuss if the child witnessed the stabbing.

This is the second slaying in Athens-Clarke County for 2010, Holeman said.

The first took place on April 20, when Richard Norred allegedly shot and killed one of his sisters, Leigh Allison Norred Pope, and wounded his mother and another sister, according to the Athens-Banner Herald.
