Another day, another smog alert

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

The Clean Air Campaign has issued a smog alert for Monday, the first day of school for many metro Atlanta children and the fourth straight day of bad air.

The air quality is expected to be unhealthy for sensitive groups, meaning people with heart or lung disease, older adults and children should cut back or reschedule strenuous activities.

Monday would be the 15th day this year that concentrations of ozone or particle pollution, or both, reach unhealthy levels.

Historically, August is one of the worst months for metro Atlanta’s air quality.

As children head back to school, the Clean Air Campaign is offering parents and schools solutions to school zone air pollution. More than 100 schools have signed up for the Clean Air Schools program, which teaches clean air lesson plans, establishes no-idling policies and encourages better ways for commuting to school.
