The Georgia State Patrol is investigating a highway collision that killed five people, including the wife and three children of a man serving with the U.S. Navy.

Wilcox County coroner Janice Brown said a 2002 Toyota car driven by 37-year-old April Cutina White of Abbeville collided head on with a Georgia state van near Rochelle in south Georgia Thursday afternoon.

Brown said White and 4-year-old daughter Jaylan, 9-year-old daughter Jada and 7-year-old son Saunte were killed. A passenger in the van, 68-year-old Daniel Elders of Abbeville, also was killed.

Wilcox County officials said the van driver, Brenda Gaines, was in serious condition at a Macon hospital on Friday.

Wilcox County officials say the American Red Cross was notifying the children's father, Clarence Leon White, who they said was serving overseas.
