4 hospitalized, 1 injured after Coweta car crash

Three children were taken by air ambulance to a hospital after a vehicle crashed into a garbage truck Thursday, Coweta County Sheriff’s Office said.

The accident happened along Corinth Road around 7:30 a.m.

The mother, Linsey Hannah, 24, of Newnan and her three children were traveling eastbound when she slammed in the back of a garbage truck hitting a sanitation worker who was on back of the truck, spokesman John LaChance told the AJC.

The car, a 2007 Ford Focus, forced the worker from the back of the truck, LaChance said. Nearly half of Hannah’s car was caught under the garbage truck.

The children, ages 7 to 2, were taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, LaChance said. One child is in surgery. No decision has been made whether or not the other children will need surgery, LaChance said.

Hannah was taken to Atlanta Medical Hospital and is intensive care, LaChance stated. The sanitation worker, Demetrius Gates, 35, suffering from an injured leg and was taken to a local doctor by his supervisor, LaChance said.

It is presumed that Hannah was taking her children to daycare when the accident happened, LaChance said.
