During the Great Depression, a young man from an Italian immigrant family moves to Los Angeles with dreams of becoming a famous novelist and marrying a beautiful blonde. As his writing flourishes, he meets and becomes obsessed with a Mexican woman. They must struggle with the city and themselves to make their dreams come true.
