AT&T has lowered the price of one of its high-speed Internet packages and is making its public-access wireless service free to all AT&T broadband customers, the company said this week.

Dallas-based AT&T will start selling its DSL Lite broadband service to new residential customers for $14.95 a month. The price will remain the same for two years, and customers do not have to sign a contract, the company said. To receive the $14.95 offer, they must sign up for the service by Oct. 31.

Existing customers pay $19.95 a month for DSL Lite, which AT&T says on its Web site is best for surfing the Internet and sending e-mails.

Customers need to have AT&T’s landline phone service to receive the DSL Lite package, the company said.

AT&T also offers DSL packages that are priced between $32.95 and $42.95 a month, according to the company’s Web site. These packages offer a broadband Internet service that is more suited to send and receive large e-mail files, music, photos and video at a high rate of speed, according its Web site.

Also, AT&T’s Wi-Fi service, offered at stores and other public areas, is now free to its broadband customers. AT&T customers who do not use its broadband service must pay $19.95 a month to use Wi-Fi.

AT&T’s wireless division, AT&T Mobility, is based in Atlanta.
