State scores: Gainesville hammers West Forsyth

Blake Sims rushed for 150 yards and three touchdowns and passed for another to lead sixth-ranked Gainesville (6-0) to a 35-16 victory against previously unbeaten West Forsyth in an early Region 7-AAA, Div. B game.

Teryan Rucker’s 2-yard run capped an 87-yard drive and gave the Red Elephants a 7-3 lead late in the first quarter. Blake Sims later ran 4 yards for a touchdown to extend the Red Elephants’ lead to 14-3.

HIGH SCHOOL NEWS

On the next drive, Sims scored on a spectacular 85-yard run for his second touchdown to push the Gainesville lead to 21-3 midway through the second quarter. Sims had 116 yards on four carries in the first half.

West Forsyth’s Ben Emert ran for a 1-yard score to cut the margin to 21-9 midway through the third quarter. Gainesville responded two plays later when Sims hit Rucker with a 65-yard touchdown pass.

Carrollton 21, Cartersville 3: The No. 9-ranked Trojans (5-1) used a quick, athletic defense to shut down the host Purple Hurricanes in a key Region 6-AAA matchup. Carrollton grabbed a 7-0 lead in the second quarter on a 4-yard run by LaBran Hudson. A.J. Barge added a 3-yard scoring run in the third quarter, then threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Luke Waters to seal the outcome.

Athens Academy 19, Commerce 13: Will Daniel threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to William Harris with 3:36 left as the No. 4-ranked Spartans (5-0) stayed unbeaten.

Brookstone 44, Pacelli 21: Milton McClushkey rushed for 142 yards and three touchdowns for the Cougars (5-0).

Camden County 50, Beach 13: The No. 2-ranked Wildcats (5-0, 2-0) surged for 36 third-quarter points. Dewaine Coleman ran a kickoff back 77 yards for one score, and Michael Green returned an interception for another.

Crisp County 18, Perry 15: Joshua Waters rushed for 104 yards anad two touchdowns for the Cougars (5-1).

Dublin 42, Bleckley 7: The Irish (4-1) didn’t need luck. They had Rashard Smith, who completed all four of his passes for 174 yards and three touchdowns and returned a punt 55 yards for another score.

Evans 31, Butler 6: The Knights (5-0) ran up a 24-6 halftime lead and sealed the victory with a 25-yard touchdown pass from Troy Griffin to Jamison Turner in the third quarter.

Hiram 44, Paulding 38: Mario Rolland had touchdown runs of 50, 34, 30 and 4 yards to lead Hiram (3-2).

Flowery Branch 55, West Hall 7: Daniel Drummond ran for three touchdowns for the Falcons (5-1).

Jefferson County 14, Swainsboro 12: Barry Bostic threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Daughtery to keep Jefferson (6-0) unblemished.

LaGrange 57, Kendrick 0: Jamius Gunsby ran for two touchdowns and passed for two more as the Grangers improved to 5-1. Ocie Salter added three rushing touchdowns.

Lafayette 54, Heritage-Catoosa 3: Josh Morgan completed 15 of 17 passes for 270 yards and five touchdowns in three quarters.

Lincoln County 42, Aquinas 16: A.G. Middlebrooks ran for 241 yards and scored four touchdowns for the Red Devils (5-1).

Miller County 21, Terrell County 20: Shawndre Sheffield rushed for 203 yards and two scores, including the game-winner in the fourth quarter.

North Oconee 34, Rabun County 0: Brandon Whitlock led a strong running attack with 109 yards and a touchdown. Lane Thompson added 91 yards and a touchdown on only two carries and returned a fumble for another score.

Oconee County 38, Elbert County 0: Zach Mettenberger threw touchdown passes to Bernie Pritchard (36 yards), Isaac Givens (15 yards) and Hutch Roper (14 yards) to lead the Warriors (2-3, 2-0).

Peach County 43, Monroe 7: Lamar Zanders threw for 125 yards and two scores.

Rome 42, Woodland-Cartersville 19: Reggie Whatley led a strong Rome (5-1) rushing attack with 143 yards and a touchdown.

Statesboro 28, Effingham County 15: Nick Lanier rushed for three touchdowns to pace the No. 4-ranked Blue Devils (6-0).

Thomas County Central 32, Americus-Sumter 14: Shawn Bryant and Curtis Brooks each rushed for two touchdowns for the Yellow Jackets (4-1).

Tift County 31, Houston County 24: Quarterback Malcolm Dixon ran for 115 yards and two touchdowns for the winning Blue Devils.

Toombs County 14, Laney 10: Demery Hawkins rushed for 98 yards, including a 2-yard touchdown, and Tory Lamb added a 1-yard scoring run for the Bulldogs (3-3). Cameron Stallings scored from 4 yards out for Laney (3-3).

Turner County 36, Twiggs County 14: Kenzenyon Newberry threw for 242 yards and two scores as Turner improved to 5-1.

Westside-Macon 44, Lee County 3: Orrin McFadden paced No. 1 Westside (6-0) by completing 10 of 17 passes for 195 yards.

Wilcox County 49, Telfair 7: Antonio Marshall led the Patriots (6-0) by rushing for four touchdowns.
