What’s Sonny Perdue thinking? Write your own caption here
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
It’s hard to say what Gov. Sonny Perdue has on his mind here, but he appears to have more than a mild headache as he listens to President Barack Obama this morning in a session with the National Governors Association.
From left to right, those in the bipartisan picture are South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, a Republican; Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, a Democrat; Perdue, a Republican; and Vermont Gov. Jim Douglas, a Republican.
Much of the debate over the weekend was over whether Republican-governed states would reject part or all of the $787 billion economic recovery package approved by Congress this month.
Perdue, of course, appeared to agree with Bobby Jindal of Louisiana on the issue of increased funds for the unemployed.
In his address to the governors, Obama addressed that concern specifically, citing it as an example of the “cable chatter” that is picking apart his initiative.
Said Obama:
“I think there are some very legitimate concerns on the part of some about the sustainability of expanding unemployment insurance. What hasn’t been noted is that, that is $7 billion of a $787 billion program.
“And it’s not even the majority of the expansion of unemployment insurance. So it is possible for those who are concerned about sustaining a change that increases eligibility for part-time workers to still see the benefit of $30 billion plus that is going — even if you don’t make the change….
“I just want to make sure we’re having an honest debate ”
Here’s a raw 11-minute clip from MSNBC:

After the White House meeting, in an interview with my AJC colleague Bob Keefe, Perdue praised the new president for his candor.
“It was a very candid, forthright discussion,” Perdue said. ” I thought he was very amenable in understanding the differences in our states and (our) different challenges and I was very encouraged that we’ve got an administration that states like Georgia are going to be able to work.”
When George W. Bush hosted governors during their annual winter meetings in Washington, the get-together was very structured. Bush typically only took one or two questions from the state leaders. In contrast, Monday’s meeting with members of the National Governors Association was much more open, Perdue and others said.
“It was more open-mike,” Perdue said. “We had a very forthright discussion in a variety of areas and the president was very gracious in taking many of our questions and acknowledging very upfront that there are some differences.”
Monday’s meeting came after the White House hosted what by some reports was a relatively raucous reception for the governors and their spouses on Sunday night. Legendary R&B band Earth, Wind and Fire performed at the reception, where a conga line apparently broke out.
Asked Monday whether he participated in the dance train, Perdue laughed and shook his head. “I’m an early to bed guy,” he said.

Americans need to wake up all political republicans should be impeached everyone of them if this stimulus bill is constructured to help the citizens accept it. I am a true patriot rescue me from depression and I would be honored to pay taxes more than the government requires and I believe that the rest of American citizens would do the same.

They should be impeached only after they are investigated to ensure that they are paying their taxes.
Remember all those comments making fun of Daschel and Geitner for not paying their taxes?
Well it turns out neither has Sarah Palin. In fact, I bet almost all Republicans have cheated on their taxes. After all, they believe the lies of their own party, why not believe they’ll make up some of their own?

Aaron Burr V. Mexico,
Are you stoned or plain stupid.
There is a big difference between “forgetting” to pay taxes and accepting a ruling on whether taxes should be paid or not.
Seems that all the “progressives” just are too dumb to remember to pay taxes, no wonder they never saw a tax hike they didn’t like.

Who says Perdue is thinking anything. In the 6 1/2 years he has been Governor, he hasn’t had one viable, articulated, coherent, uttered, moaned or groaned thought of his own since he has been office. So, again I ask, who says Perdue is thinking anything. Even him saying he is going to turn down some of the stimulus money isn’t even his own thought-he stole that from another governor. What a moron. I told ya’ll he would just embarrass Georgia more than he already has.

Morph’s back. And as pathetic as ever.
And as for the ‘difference between ‘forgetting’ to pay your taxes and accepting a ruling’ Republicans said that everything Dashcle and Geitner said about their taxes was ‘excuses.’
Republicans are hypocrites plain and simple. An excuse for Sarah Palin is just a lie for Democrats.

Mr. Obama needs to realize the smart people aka “evil rich” are pulling out of the stock market (they know what Obama’s plan is about and want nothing to do with it b/c it will fail… and if they stay in the market, so will their money). Those people are the ones giving/creating jobs for people. If he implements his tax structure on the small businesses, they can’t survive, this will result in the loss of more jobs for my GA citizens. Mr. Obama needs to realize that most taxes come from from the “wealthy” so these slobs excited about their “tax cuts” never pay taxes anyway. They just want the free handout. Ignorant people. Why do you have to blame it on having good faith in the rich. Why don’t you read the papers and watch the news, and actually make decisions for yourselves. That would call for trying to educate yourselves. Go to a bookstore, read online, do your research. BUT…. that takes time away from watching TV and sleeping. That would call for WORK. Who wants to do that, when I can just depend on the govt?? How about you live within your means??
This nation is too dependent, and unfortunately we are paying for it now. The dependence is going to another level…socialism.

Why does every republican have to be evil, and why does every democrat have to be tax a cheat…Can’t we all just post something intelligent? I think the President is working his butt off trying to fix this economic problem we are in, he might not have all the answers and he might make stupid decisions at times but none of you could do any better.
Two things that might help us in the long run:
stop throwing money away on “stimulus’”, this has never worked, never will. The only thing that it will gurantee is tons of inflation in a year or so. Sorry Keynes.
the economy is not a car…when it breaks down you can’t just fix it. Give it time. In the mean time invest in projects that will give us a competetive advantage when the market rebounds. Invest in education, infastructure, alternative energy, etc.

So Mark, only the smart people (rich) invest in the stock market? How about those people who received stock as part of their retirement plans? Those people are having to forego retirement now. This mess is not Obama’s, it’s Bush and every repug that helped bully laws through for the past 8 years. I don’t see Bush trying to offer any assistance, nor any republican. They would rather have this country crash in order to get votes. That’s just plain pathetic. PATHETIC.
Personally, I’m angry that people who bought homes for $600,000 when they should’ve only qualified for $200,000 are getting to keep those homes. I can deal w/ cell phones and nails but those people were aware what an ADJUSTABLE rate meant. I can even remember Clark Howard warning people to be careful and begged people not to even look at interest only loans. People want their status symbols and we pay.

I am morph. I have multiple personality disorder and sometimes others with in me use my name. I had a bad outbreak during the election. I guess it is back now. I am waiting for some of the hope the skinny talked about all election long. Lately he sounds like a a debbie downer. Truth be known I am afraid of my other personalities. Some of them vote democratic. I think I am even crazier than Will Jones.

I’m sure “fat rat” is thinking how to line his pockets with more money. Our do noting governor needs to call it quits. He enjoys taking away the funds of the DNR and closing of state parks when the state should sell the unattractive governors mansion and donate that money to keep the state park system operating. As Obama says - Change is Coming. I will be glad when we have “Dem” day in Georgia.

What have I done to the matters of this State here in Georgia? Now someone is going to have to pick-up the pieces of where I left the State in disarray and burdeoned in affairs that were misthought, mismanaged, and overall stupidly planned. What did I do? Why am I such a dummy?

I agree with Dewitt…. the stimulus bill is constructed to help the citizens accept it. I am a true patriot rescue me from depression and I would be honored to pay taxes more than the government requires and I believe that the rest of American citizens would do the same. Any and Everyone who is receiving unemployment you want to go to gov.georgia.gov and plead with our governor to accept the extended emergency unemployment benefits for some of us this is the only way we have to pay the rent and feed our kids right now!!

What Perdue and others are saying is there are provisions in the stimulus bill that nobody read about and it could hurt the state when this clown Obama leaves office in 4 years. There are provisions that make certain aspects of the cost of unemployment permenant such as part-time unemployment benefits and Ga will be left to fund the cost.
Get over you love affair with Obama, the bill was over 1000 pages and nobody read the bill, not even Obama and he said he would during the campaign. Democraps keep blaming the Republicans when Democrats have the majority in the House and Senate since the election of 2006. The House Majority is Democrat and the Senate leader is Democratic so its over for this lie about the Republicans.

As a Republican I find Sonny Perdue to be an embarrassment to the party, and as a Georgian I find Perdue to b an embarrassment to the state. Sonny Perdue is undoubtedly the worst Georgia governor of my lifetime and a totally selfish and incompetent public servant. It seems as though Sonny has only used the governor’s office to enrich his personal investments.

Let’s give Sonny some credit…when we had the drought a within the few years. At least he had ask this state to PRAY for rain. So maybe he is tired or praying for change! Sonny, after you are done with what you are doing. Now look to the left of you (CHANGE)!
Well for all of the bigots and racist on this post. We are praying that your hearts and minds become changed. Because many of us prayed for President Obama to take the white house. Not just for some like most republicans, not saying all. But it would seem like most republicans are partisan to the own parties forgetting the american people whom lost their jobs to GREEDY corporate america!
Let’s DO SOMETHING for the People Sonny! We “The People” know you can do the right thing! Forget party line, break it and come forth!
