Thurmond: ‘We’re witnessing the emergence of a Darwinian job market’

The state Department of Labor announced today that 120,139 laid-off workers filed first-time claims for unemployment insurance benefits in January, an 81 percent increase over January ‘08.

“We are witnessing the emergence of a Darwinian job market,” said State Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond in the press release announcing the barren statistics. This afternoon, Thurmond will address a joint meeting of House and Senate committees charged with overseeing employment in Georgia.

“The growing number of layoffs has created a surplus of jobseekers who are talented, experienced, educated, and well-trained. In this challenging environment, the most successful jobseekers will be those who demonstrate the highest levels of persistence, determination, and above all, flexibility when looking for work,” Thurmond said.

Thurmond did not say if it made any difference whether, in a Darwinian job market, an unemployed person disputed evolution theory.

The worst places in Georgia to find a job are now Dalton, where unemployment claims were up 165 percent; Brunswick, up 164 percent; and Rome, up 153 percent.

Cities doing the best, within the new definition of the word: Columbus, up 21 percent; Valdosta, up 35 percent; and Savannah, up 39 percent.

Charles Darwin once wrote that “It’s not the strongest of the species, nor the most intelligent, that survive; it’s the one most responsive to change.” That is what a Darwinian job market is.

Unfortunately, Darwin was wrong on that very point. It’s not the one most responsive to change at all. That implies a reaction to change. Mutations occur irregardless of change. Change is not always cyclical. Change occurs as randomly as the mutations. Mutations occur randomly with no agenda and it just so happens that one species may survive change because of advantages it stumbled upon simply by being a creature that can mutate. Not all mutations are serendipitous mutations. There were also creatures who so offended mother nature that they ended up looking like a Tasmanian Tree Sloth.

It’s like the craters on the moon are there whether the moon wanted them or not. The universe has no agenda whatsoever. It just is.

We invented God because God can only be observed by a man. God can only live inside the mind of a man. A rock cant observe God. The universe doesn’t look back at god. It doesn’t wink or nod or worship. It just is.

That is why the universe was created when man first observed it. No quantum state can exist without the apparatus separating the probabilities. God lives in the experiences of blood and flesh human beings only. Not monkeys or cats. Thus he needs us as much as we need him. Ask yourself, “Why weren’t the dinosaurs enough?” If it’s enough for Steven Spielberg……..

The universe could have been formed 6K years ago, it is possible. The universe can both exist and not exist until it’s observed to exist. Thus natural history can both evolve and suddenly pop into being. The big bang, the galaxy formation, solar sytems, man, all could have been sailing along easy as pie without really happening. We know now that there are alternate quantum states. Something can just appear as if by magic when in reality it evolved to get here in another quantum state of existence/non-existence.

In other words, when God said, “Let there be light ” he was referring to the light that was always there anyway. Just in a different quantum state. So what he did wasn’t such a big deal.

Mea culpa.

Chris Broe has been floating around in space for quite some time now. Kind of like that green martian lady on Lost in Space. Every now and then he pops on his headset and bestows a nugget or two of wisdom upon us.

No, we are witnessing exportation of thousands of jobs to third-world countries where employers can pay a couple of dollars a day and get away with it. Seriously, we have lost our manufacturing base along with other businesses. We are collapsing from the inside out, just like Kruschev used to predict when he said “we will bury you.” We are as vulnerable as ever for a complete change in society, one that will not look anything like what our founding fathers envisioned, and many capitalist “hate” groups are behind this change. And that is not a good thing.

Chris, I believe that God is Love, which I think does exist in the monkeys and cats.

But its only my belief.

What I find interesting is that the left worships the Darwinian process by which we came from tadpoles and monkeys through constant feverish evolution…..but at the human level they deny that this process continue!

Of course the job market is evolving. We are increasing minimum wage faster than the companies can grow their income. So the employees get the ax.

This job market will be about survival and creativity. Although many individuals have been affected by layoffs, I would be interested in knowing the age, gender, ethnicity, and demographic locations of the unemployed. Experience and flexibility plays a vital role for applicants; however, age trumps all. The younger the better.

Look, people, I think we can all agree that when fewer jobs are available, the mentally stronger, smarter, adaptable, whatever, survive. The real issue is our politicians who are telling us we have no choice but to throw money at the economic problem. The gall of them to threaten “catastrophic consequences” when they don’t really know.

As long as we are less efficient than different countries abroad, we will continue to fail. If you are just going to throw money at a problem, then you’re not really helping anything, so you might as well just back away.

Vince Neil points out one of my favorite ironies, funny we all have our contradictory perceptions don’t we. On the job note, much like many henny pennys out there decrying many economic “disaster” or “calamities” the most rampant thing at the moment are exagerations. Sure there are issues to be addressed but I am sorry “everyone” is not losing jobs. The headlines scream worst job loss in 25 years, yeah in absolute numbers, but not even close % wise. Most economic models claim somewhere around 5% as full employment we are at 7.5% sure we had a couple of decades of great unemployment rates. (Yes Bush’s numbers are about the same as clintons) and our rates continue to be far better than most of the world the EU has had many countries in double digit unemployment for years.I realize losing a job is tough on someone, but from a macro economic and historic perspective we are no where near worst case

If not for government regulations, the EEOC, and every other economically-manipulative law and agency that leviathan has created, the best person for the job would always be the one getting the job.

Thanks to this stimulus package however as productive american companies are destroyed by inflation and taxation, there will instead by tens of thousands of very tallented, qualified and capable folks digging holes one day only to fill them in the next. Government of couse CANNOT create jobs. All they can do is steal from one group of productive folks and give to anther group. In this case there will be some sort of activity called a “job” to justify the takings, but the end result will untimately be the same. Its a shame that evolution doesn’t work quicker on the voting public.

It’s called an economic correction for a reason, people!

Our economic implosion is accelerating …with the passage of the stimulus our myopic government will be spending in excess of 200,000 for any one job created based on governemtn data already released on number of new job projected….meanwhile local, and state governments, school systems and cities continue to struggle to balance budgets with the inevitable conclusion .. we have to cut!

Governments local Atlanta thousands… Peachtree Ctiy 40 Smryna 15 City of Conyers $4,000,000 budget shortfall Covington $5,000,000 shortfall…many others in Ga and nationwide

examples Fayette county 175 teachers Clayton cty up to 400 due to loss of accreditation Rockdale still assessing Dekalb thousands all due to shrinking public enrollment

Major cities Chicagoo 4billion deficit state of California 42billion NYC 5 Billion California furloughed 200,000 employees 2/6/2009

As implosion accelerates, as home values and equity crumble no one will buy anything just hold tight and brace yourself for the rampant crime, hysteria and 1000’s in line for any possible job nibble thrown out(witness Atlanta Ga Federal job fair with no jobs yet thousands lined up and were turned away 2/11/2009!

Our government has destroyed oour economy advocating world markets to manufacture our goods….free trade with no borders . The erosion of our jobs will make us the most educated bunch of fools on the planet…especially the elite selfish leaders who remain at head of corporations and government that have raped the Us citizens of our livelyhood.

all of these people will burn in hell when there time comes!!!

Judy, do you have an older sister for me?

Richard hits on a very important point about the stimulus package: It puts middle men between the jobs and the job seekers so that the $200K will mostly pay for the unregulated oversight, and not the employee.

That’s what’s wrong with big government and why I am now the Conservative Writer for the AJC.
