Isakson’s homebuyer tax credit already gone?

This was posted a few minutes ago on The Caucus, the political blog operated by the New York Times:

…We’re told that the homebuyers’ amendment approved by a bipartisan voice vote last week may be out already. Republican Senator Johnny Isakson of Georgia proposed a $15,000 tax credit for buyers of new homes within a year or so of the bill taking effect. Initially, the cost was estimated at $18.5 billion, but has now been recalculated by the Congressional Budget Office at about $35.5 billion.

That’s far more than the estimated $2.6 billion estimate for a provision in the House bill that would provide a $7,500 refundable tax credit for first-time homebuyers through July 1, 2009. Under the House plan, individual homebuyers earning up $75,000 and couples earning up to $150,000 would qualify. A reduced credit would be available for those individuals earning up to $95,000 and couples up to $170,000.

Let me get this straight - when Bush and Paulson declare an emergency need for a Wall Street bailout to the tune of $750 Billion - Saxby and Isakson fall in line and Vote YES.

When economist & Obama declare the economy is headed for a catastrophe, and the Senate proposes $790 billion to go to states, cities and counties across the country - Saxby and Isakson vote NO!

Well, they think they are playing a smart political game, but a YES to bailing out wall street vs. a NO to bailout Main Street is going to be great political fodder for anyone willing to throw it. WAKE UP DEMS!

Not to mention the hypocrisy of Isakson’s Real Estate amendment adding 35 billion to the “Too expensive” bill - voting NO while knowing it will pass anyway. Politics as Usual - I’m disgusted

This Bill is a boondoggle. The Obama, Peace be upon him, said that it may not work. I support the President, just not his stimulus bill that does not stimulate. Peace!

Bailing out Wall Street was a mistake. I’m glad Johnny and Saxby got it right this time. The President made a huge mistake by allowing Nancy and Harry to write this Spendulus Bill.

Wake up Republicans! Your 5th column leaders want to see America BURN before helping out.

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that when you’ve got 41 Republican senators, the one that is willing to compromise has the most influence.

You might hate the three that voted for the stimulus, but unlike the other 37 who didn’t do ANYTHING to compromise, those three had a say in the final bill.

And Johnny was right up there with them.

No surprise. Objective analysts thought it was a half-baked idea, although it would have been a boon to his fellow realtors.

P.S., seems like only yesterday the Political Insider all but guaranteed that this provision would not be cut. Your enthusiasm for the Isakson re-elect campaign is clouding your judgment.

So the lib/dem leadership is going to conference on the bill in secret without accountability and openness as promised by The Obama, peace be upon him. Then these same democrat hack politicians are going to strip the bill of the one thing that was actually going to address the root of the problem, the housing market. I see that Sen. Harry “The Body” Reid (D-NV) is going to get a commuter train for Vegas, and that Speakerette Nancy “Stretch” Pelosi (D-CA) is getting 30 million to study some kind of stupid mouse. To be fair, the average worker will get an extra 13 bucks a week, big deal. This stimulus is nothing but pork and to claim otherwise is suspend disbelief.

I support the President, just not his stimulus plan that will not stimulate. Peace.

There plan has fail and they want us to support failure. I support the President and his stimulus package. The Taliban is not for every day Joe. They belive give to the rich and maybe they will let a few dollar drop down to working folk. That has fail big time. W gave the banks 350 billion and not a word on how to use it or account for the money. They the Taliban GOP do not and will not work with President OBAMA, bank on that! They will only be a southern Party because they are way out of touch with every day Joe. Look at the job loses and the Taliban will not help the people who are hurting. People need help now but the Taliban stand with the party not the people. They just don’t get it, there hearts are cold and evil! The GOP hate MODERATES in their party. you need all points of views to make thing work!

I, too, support the President but not his stimulus that will not stimulate. Why do they need 30 million to study a rat. Ted Kennedy has been in DC for decades there is plenty of research on that murdering rat already. Or they could just read the books on Clinton, he is rat. How does spending 30 million on a rat stimulate the economy? Seriously?

So let me get this straight. You democrat voters b!tch and moan about how Bush ran the economy and his spending. But you support Obama, who is Bush on steroids, when it comes to his economic plan. Do I have that right? I would like to join with the other here in saying I support Mr. Obama, just not his policies.

Let me get this straight . The clowns in the Taliban GOP went to war that cost us a arm and a leg ( something we did not have to do)and is one of the main reason we are in the hole today. You clowns spend money had no checks and balances on moneys, the SEC enforce nothing. Now you clowns B!tch and moan about the stimulate . You clown spent over a trillion dollar on a war the right wind nut wanted . Bush spent money like there was no tomorrow. Now since W and the Taliban GOP F-ck up they want every body to suffer because of there f-ck up insane! Now people say they support the president but not policies is like say I support Jesus but not his word. You need help in the mind! Let’s tell it like it is you want him and the country to fail. Just the facts. The GOP had there chance and just look what happen asking pages for sex corruption all over the place no bid contracts buddy buddy system that coasted billion. President Obama will fight for the small and not just the fat cats. He is asking every body to help but the GOP Taliban stands only for party that why they will continue to fail watch and see!!

No, it is like when you libs supported the troops but not the war. Again, I support the President, just not his stimulus bill that does not stimulate. I learned this little nonsensical, circular argument from libs like “Gop lost in space.” How will 30 million to study rats stimulate the economy. Lost? Defend the porkulus. Defend the spendulus. Defend The Obama, peace be upon him. See if you can do it with mentioning Bush orCheney. I bet you can’t. Peace.

It is Bush’s fault that Obama is pushing a pork-laden bill that spends 30 million on rats requested by the Liberal Speaker of the House. Bush made Obama fight waste a ton of money liberal pet projects. Bush made Obama lie to the people when Obama said that there was no pork in the “Stimulus” bill. I hate Bush.

RagingMod is quite the uninformed person.

Isakson wanted his amendment. He got it. But he hated the House bill from the start. It had over 4 billion dollars for Neighborhood Stabilization Activities (meaning ACORN would be able to grab some of that), in addition to having millions more for stupid, irrelevant, non-stimulating items such as funding for Hollywood film-making and “green” golf carts. No Republican, in his right mind, would vote for such a bill.

He voted for the first one in an attempt to halt the crisis at the time. He was not trying to solely “pump money into Wall Street” while not caring about Main Street. It is unfortunate that Main street was not the subject of the first bill, because he would have voted for that one still, but surely not this horrible monstrosity. He also is not voting for this one BECAUSE he voted for the last one, and it did nothing for immediate relief, and there was no transparency.

I am sure that he would love to vote for a true STIMULUS bill. If 800 billion was going towards worthwhile programs that build jobs and save our nation’s wealth, he would most likely vote for it. But seeing how this bill is about 1/3 stimulus and the rest is pork, I don’t know who could vote for this package.

He was trying to get his STIMULATING amendment into a bill that was supposed to be a STIMULUS bill, but he never said he’d vote for the whole bill as it came out of the House. That’s not “politics as usual” it’s just good business…

Check your facts, and think it through next time maybe.
