Chambliss, Isakson will vote against Obama stimulus package
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson will vote against the economic stimulus package now taking shape in the Senate, staffers for both senators confirmed this morning.
Current reports indicate enough Republicans in the Senate have joined in a reduced stimulus package, engineered by a coalition of moderate Republicans and Democrats, to assure passage.
Word of the decision by Chambliss and Isakson began leaking out this morning, hours after a final deal had been reached.
In a note sent out to followers, Georgia Christian Alliance leader Sadie Fields, said Chris Carr, Isakson’s chief of staff, informed her of the decision late last night. Charlie Harmon, Chambliss’ chief of staff, called her this morning.
Previously, Fields had sent a note to her followers, arguing that under no terms should the senators vote for the package.
Earlier this week, Isakson successfully argued to include a $15,000 homebuyer tax credit into the package, but said he had made no commitment to vote for it. Isakson is up for re-election in 2010.
Wrote Fields to members of the Georgia Christian Alliance:
“Please call Monday to thank them for standing up for the people. While it is not over, we can be proud of our senators for doing the right thing.”

How is cutting funding to states for education the right thing? This part of the stimulus package would save 10s of thousands of jobs in my state alone.
As a mother of a severely disabled child I resent the question posed by the republican leadership, and the stance of the party against special education funding for years, how is funding special education stimulative?
I had my baby. This is what you want, right? Moms to do the right thing and bear the disabled child? OK- she’s here. Where is the help, the love, the care, the support from the party that encourages this anti-abortion behavior?
Education is stimulative. Special education more so. For every child in regular ed, we hire 1/32 of a teacher. For every child in special education we hire 1/10 of a teacher, 1/5 of an aide, 1/10 of a bus driver, some part of a nurse, some part of an occupational therapist, a speech therapist, a physical therapist. These are GOOD jobs and these are people who do good works every day of their work lives, works that most of us do not do, and that many of us, apparently, would not even pay for.
SHAME on the party. SHAME on any of us that support this evil position. Each of us should turn to our conscience, our values and our god and meditate on what IS the right thing? Turn our back on the disabled? How is this right? How is this giving of alms?

The right is regrouping and finding out just how many voters they have left. Good. That’s the first step. Who are we, and how many of us are left?
CNN just reported that The towel of Palin was carbon dated to October of 2008, in the middle of the media barrage. All those cameras. She couldn’t control herself. I predict we get a playboy spread out this in the end, and thank you, thank you, Hugh Heffner. You’re my new bff. (Sorry, Flav).

Why should Isakson and Chambliss do anything but the opposite of what the people need. This is a partisan stance—still led by the idealogues like Sadie Fields. Georgians better wake up and smell the coffee. Georgia Republicans have the upper hand because their really isn’t a State Democratic Party. No leadership and the people so far running for the democratic nomination for governor are too chicken to speak out because they don’t want to seem liberal. Well, when the numbers continue to climb with folks being laid off and everyone continues to lose their homes the voters hopefully will wake up and throw these Republican jokers out the door. Until this happens, they will continue to shoot their own economic foot and ours. Wake Up Georgia!

The danger here is that the GOP wont vote for military expenditures necessary to hold off the Shia Superstate either. Has there ever been a more unanimous Republican Congress?
The Shia Superstate.
Iraq has millions of shia. Persia is Shia. The Shia attraction is younger than the older ethnic repulsion that separates the two populations.
Persians can fight with Arabs, but they can’t live with them. The Kurds watch wearily as we prepare to leave. That’s a lot of cross-border Shia facing Mecca five times a day. That’s like a billion man-prayers a day out of the Shia Superstate alone. Imagine the Davinci Code 3 movie: Shia prayers incroaching into our air space.: Mr. President! We must retaliate with a full rosary immediately, Mr. President. “What if we do send a full rosary in response and they counter with the Story of Abraham?” (Well, sir, I suppose we’ll have to counter that with a Novena at least.) “And then what will the shia response be to that?” (well, mr president, we’d have to say a High Mass and maybe hunt for easter eggs, and maybe get out the pope mobile out, max, give or take, depending on the breaks, but before we get to that point, surely more secular cooler heads will have prevailed. ) “I’m not willing to take that bet. I order you all to flip Mr. Amanijihdad the bird, moon him, and throw beads at his wife. Now. That’s an order Mr. Cheney……..(It’s your Karma, Jack, over)
Jklol. Google the kurds if you want to know what’s dead ahead in Iraq, or any sense of what our mission in Iraq actually was/is.

Unless we resolve now and unanimously to embrace our Islamic brothers around the world, we’ll never have peace. Bush was lucky. We’ve only been stuck there six years. Tell Mel Brooks to write Blazing Saddles 2, except with a Shia sheriff this time, instead of a neh………. (mel brooks, blazing saddles. write him not me)

If any item in this package will not create a job or generate revenue for a US based company with in the next 90 days then it is NOT a stimulus item and does not belong in this package.
If this bill get’s passed tomorrow and within te next 90 days even one American home owner looses thier house to forclosure then we have all failed and every congressman and senator needs to be held accountable.

Let’s not forget that Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isaakson supported John McCain’s failed amendment (65-31 on Weds. night) to STRIP all Buy-America-Only provisions from the stimulus bill!!! Outrageous!! Shame on you Saxby and Chambliss!!! This stimulus bill is supposed to jump-start the American economy and prime the American economic pump. How is the expenditure of stimulus monies to foreign countries helping America. Tell that to unemployed Georgians.

If Saxby and Johnny and Phil (Gingrey) and Lynn (Westmoreland and all other Georgia Republican legislators are refusing to support the current economic stimulus bill then why is the GOP Dominated general assembly PLUS Gov. Perdue and LtGov Cagle and Speaker Richardson going on hiatus til June waiting for the stimulus bill to brings billions to Georgia? Sounds sort of like the Little Red Hen story we tell out children. Either Perdue-Cagle-Richardson outght to publicly chastise Chambliss-Isaakson-Gingrey et. al. to get off their asses and get in the game or Perdue-Cagle-Richardson ought to refuse to accept any stimulus money into Georgia! Fat chance that will happen! What hypocrites! Johnny Isaakson, we will remember how you showboated for the $15,000 new home purchase deuction in this bill and then bailed from supporting the rest of the stimulus bill - what a flip-flopping fool! Don’t you dare come around here next year asking for our re-election vote!

Gee, the liberati are sounding like a hive of enraged bees. Your boy Obama is working overtime to ensure the U.S. goes into the tank permanently. But before that happens, perhaps you’ll get a few welfare bucks thrown your way—along with ACORN and the unions. But nary a dime for businesses that hire people (libs, insert the word “evil” before “business”). Proud Americans all of you.
Thanks to Senators Isakson and Chambliss for pledging to vote against this spendulus package. Ditto for all the GOP U.S. Representatives along with a handful of their Democrat counterparts.
You did the right thing and we appreciate it.

I believe in general the bill is a good idea, however it should solely focus on infrastructure (new high speed rail, bridges but NO HIGHWAYS) to create jobs, and tax incentives to help homeowners and the real estate industry. Additionally, the government should provide a program to help pay off a certain amount of lost equity if a homeowner can’t refinance their home due to falling house prices. I’m a fan of education, but aside from helping people pay for college, that doesn’t belong in a stimulus package and should be put in a different bill.
However, all this nit-picking is getting nothing done and the republicans are doing a lot of damage, especially since Obama is trying to compromise.

By the way, people pushing for high-speed and commuter rail in Atlanta and the region should think twice about voting against this measure. It contains infrastructure spending including high-speed rail.

Good. Thanks Saxby and Johnny. Why pass a stimulus package that does not stimulate? The spending in the spendulus bill should be offered up in seperate legislation. This pork laden spending bill has nothing to do with economic stimulus and everything to do with paying off lib democrat interest groups. The Obama, peace be upon him, and the democrat hacks in congress should be ashamed of themselves. Peace.

And what do you bet that a million Georgia morons will vote for these guys yet AGAIN?

Republican Right-Wingers are selfish morons who do not understand about the real world. They don’t care how many people are losing jobs, losing their homes, not having health insurance etc. Right Wing Republican politicians and their supporters are thoughtless, low lifers who have a lot of hate in them. They are psychopathic individuals who embrace destruction.

We would not need the stimulous package at all if America wasn’t greedy to begin with. The bankers loaned to non qualified income earners so they could get a huge sales quota and bonus and now everybody pays. I heard on the news this morning that a greater Atlanta county wants to apply for stimulous money in order to build an arena. An arena is a luxury not a need.
Nobody ever mentions this because no one wants to face the truth. Small family and town farmers are not able to charge half what they put into their fruits and vegetables financially. These farmers offer jobs and quality food but they are expected to under charge. The majority of farmers are suffering at the hands of “enterprise” where a handful of people are becoming filthy rich at the expense of everybody else. Who would get the stimulous money? Certainly not the small farmers. Unfortunately this is just one example of many organizations that are a victim of greed.
I have to agree with our senators. I vote no for this package because it rewards people who have done wrong. These fat cats should pay the consequences of their own greed and the government should not be as much involved in private enterprise. America is in this situation because people just sit back with a don’t care attitude wanting the government to support them. If people want a strong economy then get off your butts and earn one.

Remember LB that it was congress and more importantly Rep. Barney’s Frank (D-MA) that forced the banks to make those bad loans. They forced them under penalty of law. The threated their FDIC status. They implied that the banks would be portrayed as racist if they did not loan money to poor minorities that could not afford them. Congress is to blame for this mess. And Congress has no business trying to solve the problem. I swear, I think these guys try to do the worst job they can, and then blame their failure on the business sector. I support the President, just no his stimulus plan that does not stimulate. This is not the change we voted for. This is just more of the same.

GA Republicans have great hate in their hearts anyway. They see that their party failed horribly in the senate and congress for six years, of course the Presidency failed 2000-2008. We a had surplus coming into 2000 then ended up with a deficit. Ala’ Republican party. President Obama has only been in office for only 2 weeks plus. We as a nation needed change.

The original idea behind the stimulus bill was to create jobs, not save them by investing in education or pork-barrel government programing. This bill has morphed into another handout that is being championed throughout the house and senate as necessary because of crisis. I believe that people should stop thinking with emotion and start using logic about what this bill really entails, i.e. increased national debt and the erradication of capitalism. I hope that Saxby and Isakson vote this stimulus bill down for multiple reasons because that’s what their constituents voted them to do, that’s what they said they would do and those were the issues they ran on when they campaigned.
Regarding the arguement of greed, people should note that it’s a double-edge sword. When times are good, it motivates people to improve their lives by rewarding them handsomely. When times are bad, they usually pay the price by losing money for the risk they took. Expecting that times will never be bad and creating socilist legislation to retroactively try to alleviate greed is insane. Greed is always there and it existed as much on Wall Street as it did on Main Street. It’s just easier to blame it on someone who took home $1 million for than someone who bought a house he/she couldn’t afford to keep up with the times.

All Georgia republicans have hate period, Georgia and U.S., their for the rich. They screwed up the country and and are trying to scare people AS USUSAL, that they know best. If they knew best we wouldn’t be in all these problems. The real thing, is if Obamas stimulus plan works, and the economy gets going again, the rethuglicans are going to be scared as he-ll. They want it to fail. Because if it succeeds the American people will know where are all the problems are and vote their sorry azzes out of office.

Let me get this straight - when Bush and Paulson declare an emergency need for a Wall Street bailout to the tune of $750 Billion - Saxby and Isakson fall in line and Vote YES. When economist & Obama declare the economy is headed for a catastrophe, and the Senate proposes $790 billion to go to states, cities and counties across the country - Saxby and Isakson vote NO! Well, they think they are playing a smart political game, but a YES to bailing out wall street vs. a NO to bailout Main Street is going to be great political fodder for anyone willing to throw it. WAKE UP DEMS!
Not to mention the hypocrisy of Isakson’s Real Estate amendment tacking on $35 billion bill to help an industry that over-built and now we’re now all suffering for it. What’s another $35 billion to the “Too expensive” bill - voting NO knowing it will pass anyway. Politics as Usual - I’m disgusted.

This is actually a mind control technique…it was used in the military to get prisoners ect to accept things that would otherwise be abhorrent to them…used by those like Hitler ect also…
You can google it…I did have the link…but cannot seem to find it right now. But, its all about making other things SEEM SO BAD that you accept more or less anything else…and don’t even really question it and think it “cant get any worse”. Well, guess what…Obama and his agendas ARE WORSE….and you have better be LOOKING AT WHO IS IN CHARGE NOW AND WHAT HE IS DOING….and ALOT less on who came before him …cause that MAN IS GONE….He cant hurt you any longer…and this one CAN AND IS !!!!

Republicans drove this car (economy) in the ditch and Now don’t want to help rescue it??!!??
Okay - How about ALL Republican Congressmen & Republican Senators who did NOT Vote for this stimulus package do NOT Accept ANY Stimulus Monies for their states!! The SAD results would be that the People - again - would be the ones to Suffer for their representatives’ decisions!
It must be Nice to have the Luxury of “Playing Politics” at the RISK of your Constituents!!!
2010 is Coming Sooner than you Think for some of you!!
