DEL.ICIO.USBarr: GOP wrong, closing Guantanamo doesn’t pose a danger to U.S.

The national Libertarian Party has posted a statement from former presidential candidate Bob Barr, praising President Barack Obama’s executive orders to close Guantanamo, halt waterboarding and other torture, and end military tribunals of detainees.
Barr also took issue with Republican claims that the closing of the detention facility at Guantanamo would endanger the United States:
“Any detainees against whom the government has evidence of terrorist acts, can try them or detain them in maximum security prisons, in military brigs, or in US military facilities overseas if necessary.” Moreover, Barr said, “the government has more than sufficient intelligence, military and law enforcement tools that are consistent with constitutional guarantees in the Bill of Rights, to provide robust and essential security for our country.”
Barr said he hopes Obama will do more:
“I hope President Obama will seek legislation curtailing the dramatic expansion of federal wiretapping power signed into law last July when former President Bush signed legislation expanding the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act that now makes every international phone call or e-mail by or to any person in the United States subject to warrantless surveillance.”

I think Bob Barr is a member of the Al Quada party.
His non-veteran status eeks his profound ineptitude about real war and the single issue without places in between: WIN? or LOSE?
The Geneva Convention is arachic as Barr’s thinking is. The US aims to abide by it; our enemies don’t.
Justify as he might, Barr has no clue nor notion of what it takes to snatch intel from prisioners, prisoners who have no legal rights, no moral authority, no rational except to “slaughter the Zionists and Crusaders” or be slaughtered.
His Gitmo example is not that of a survivor. Win or lose?
I want to win and not learn Arabic at the tip of a sword.

No, Barr is simply a libertarian who puts principles ahead of safety. It’s called “courage,” and even though I disagree with Barr on just about every other issue, I respect him for this one.
When you decide to embrace the tactics of your enemies rather than stick to your own ideals, you LOSE. The outcome of the actual battle doesn’t matter; it’s already over.

Can someone in the conservative party PLEASE remind me how many “terrorist” convictions have come from the people the united states have illegally detained at GITMO???
