This is why I choose to live in town. I saw McCain signs and Obama signs in people’s yards, but I never saw damage done to anyone’s house or obnoxious graffiti.

The bigotry, ignorance and prejudice of some Georgians is just embarrassing.

I hope they catch the ignorant rednecks responsible for this crime and throw them under the jail. I would saw send them to Guantanamo, but Obama plans to close it down.

What a crying shame. I certainly hope this wasn’t racially or hate motivated. This is 2009 people, come on! This craziness has got to stop! We have much bigger problems to solve in this country without you racially hate motivated idiots creating more. We are not black and white. We are Americans! Together we stand, divided we fall…and we’re about as close to falling as we’ve ever been. Put some effort in to solving the problems instead being one of them.

For starters, it’s Cumming not Cummings. On another note, yes Forsyth County has a dark history in regards to racial tolerance, however the county has come a long way in the last 20 years. We are not perfect, but we have a lot more decent people with class than the perps who did this crime. They are the minority in this county now. I am a Republican voter from this county and yes it is a shame that this happened. Regardless who won or lost, this should never happen. Also note that every county have these types of people.

I attended the second march on Forsyth and it is truly disheartening to see that this would happen in a time that there are many more issues that need the full focus of all Americans.

To do this to someone, knowing they are out of town is an unbelievably cowardice act. I surely hope that someone will step forward and turn them in.

Did any of you residents of Forsyth consider fact could have been electrical fire or light left on igniting? This paper is truly not worth reading anymore as all it does is incite people for the next racially charged headline.. You are right we are at the brink we reside 80 miles Southeastof Forsyth .. 3 people threw a 125 pound bench through our front bedroom window 1/3/2009 between 1am and 5am where my daughter normally sleeps /$500.00 in damages… people are armed and will shoot to protect their property ..The suspects ,all black teens, were arrested for also breaking into a house nearby and doing $10,000 in damages.. they will be in youth detention and will be the b*** of older degenerates in a society that values nothing…

Richard, read the Forsyth County news online. The story quotes detectives that pretty much say that racial specific graffiti was spray painted on the side of a fence that resides on the property. Unfortunately this still happens in Forsyth County, but these perps won’t get the sympathy that many like them received back during the march in 1987.

The dozen people who had Obama signs in our county encountered vandals as well. One person climbed a tree 40 feet to put his Obama sign up after losing several to the vandals. Most of us Obama voters quietly supported him, but we weren’t willing to have our property or cars vandalized.

Why don’t you print a headline about a Mccain supporter getting mugged in Atlanta or some other county. That would be just as irresponsible. I am a white resident of Forsyth with very strong Southern heritage. Southern does not equate to racist. While I voted Republican, I support Obama amd recognize his great potential as the ultimate leader of this country. My parents who are in their 80’s voted for Obama and have been huge supporters of his platform for change!

I am appalled that such narrow minded people would act in such a horrifying manner. Unfortunately, this type of racism and bigotry exists way beyond Forsyth County and goes beyond black/white.

Under our new leadership, I hope that we can all act as Americans, one nation, under God, and embrace this great country.

But in 1912, whites violently expelled all black residents from the county. Today, Forsyth County is home to about 150,000 people, more than 95 percent of them white.

Building on this evidence, Cox Newspapers reporter Elliot Jaspin was inspired to trace land deeds and tax rolls back to 1912. He found further proof that the majority of the property owned by the banished African Americans was never sold, but instead taken by their white neighbors

In a few hours there will no longer be an excuse that blacks can use as to why they cannot do something in this country. I am not saying that racism will be gone by any means from both whites and blacks but after today there is not a job in this country that a black person can say they have no shot at getting because of the color of their skin. In a few hours, we will have inaugurated the first African American, or bi-racial president of this country. We as American should be proud of this accomplishment and we should be able to point to it as a sign of how far we have come. We have achieved the unthinkable, only a few years ago. Yet even with that said, there are still those who are afraid that the values associated with this new regime will deteriorate the society in which we live. They believe that with us having an African American holding the highest office in the land that the laws that govern us will become corrupted.

What this really teaches is that we still live in a racially divided country. Because the only thing that is changing is the fact that we have a new president with a new perspective on how things should go. He wants transparency. He wants to get ride of Pork belly projects. He wants to reach across the aisles. But people that are blinded by fear and hatred don’t see or hear these things. They are like the three monkeys except they hear no good speak no good and see no good in him.

It is only because of the continued opposition to these forces that our country will move in the direction of being color blind. Yes we can differ in opinion, in socio-economic standing. But, if the only thing that is different between us is skin color then why not try to think differently.

I love American and I am a patriot. I would die to preserve this country because I believe in it. We have lived through the years of the Bush Presidency and we have seen the things that took place during that time.

Let’s just sit back and watch to see what a New Era of Government can bring about in America. I am cautiously optimistic but I believe that change will be better than the same. LET’S BELIEVE IN CHANGE!

I have lived in Forsyth County for 16 years. I have never heard one ….not ONE….racial comment from anyone I’ve ever met. I’ve never seen anything negative towards any minority living here. As a matter of fact I recall the AJC interviewing minorities that live here and they all said they have never experienced anything racially negative. YES, Forsyth County has history. As does this entire country. If you think Forsyth County is the only place in the state or the country this has happened, you would be wrong. It’s just the story that’s in your local paper. Does it surprise me that this happened? No. Does it surprise me that this happened in Forsyth County? No. Will it surprise me when I read things like this from all around the country? No. I won’t be surprised because there will always be conflicts about race. But to call everyone in Forsyth County rednecks and to say ALL residents would do something like that is wrong. Maybe you haven’t been here in a while but Forsyth County is not the same county it was 20, 15, or even 10 years ago. So many people have moved in from all over the country, you rarely hear a southern accent. So chances would be good that a native of Forsyth County didn’t do this.

For someone clearly upset that this could be a hate crime, I would think that you would not make stereotypical comments about Forsyth County and generalizations about its population (“status and money doesnt equal class”). Isnt stereotyping exactly what drives bigotry and hate? It deeply saddens me that this would happen in the county where I reside, but I am educated enough to know that if this is proven to be a hate crime, this is not about a county or even support for a certain political party - this is about hate - hate based on the color of skin. And unfortunately this is a clear reminder that racial hate still resides in many people, wealthy or poor, educated or not, democrat or republican, regardless of where they live.

It a good point, because any arson investigator will tell you an electrical fire will often cause cans of paint to explode, fly out of a house, bounce along a fence, spilling their contents so that they look exactly like graffiti.

My husband and I live in Forsyth County and have for 4 years. We are a bi-racial couple, live in a nice neighborhood with both white and black neighbors and have NEVER had a problem in the county. We knew when we moved here that the county had a history of racial intolerance, but we still came, with only optimism. I am very disheartened to hear of Ms. Graf’s home and the graffiti that was written, but I can tell you as a resident, as a member of a bi-racial family, this ISN’T the norm of Forsyth County, rather some idiots who obviously have hate in their hearts. As I watch Obama come in to office, my prayer is that those divisions of race and political views will fade and all of us can live together united…be it in Forsyth County, the rural counties of Idaho, or the communities of Alabama. We MUST change and accept in order to move forward as a people.

SHAY:::::: You sound pretty racist in your comments of how forsyth county residents profile young black men in the county for crimes. In case you didn’t know the statistics of the jail system of the united states, around 85% of inmates are african american males. So to say that they just automatically think it was the young black men is not out of this world thinking when they are fleeing the crime scene. I’m not saying they did it but if they were seen at the crime then they will be questioned or looked for or whatever. That is not Racist that is Justice. And yes there are white people in jail but statistically whites do not make up the majority of the jail systems, african american males do, yet whites make up the majority of the US population. So before you jump all over this man about what happened look at the statistics and realize that it is not racial, you break the law you pay regardless of race. On another note the march in forsyth county years ago………Can people just agree to disagree? It is America, you can not make everybody see the same way…You don’t see the KKK walking through the middle of a black panther community in Atlanta so why would you march through probably one of the most old fashioned countys in georgia just to prove a point…Again lets agree to disagree and get along! Just like overseas….these people have been fighting each other for thousands of years throughout history…so lets (U.S.) agree to disagree about how we and they live and let them do there own thing.

Now let’s talk about the suburbia whites, that come to the hood to get their dope. Seriously, some of these posts are as ignorant as the crime that was committed. I’ve lived in Forsyth County for 5 years. I was outraged when I learned about this horrific incident as were my friends and neighbors. I was outraged because it was wrong!!! I was also outraged because I knew there would be countless posts about how ignorant and racist all the folks in Forsyth County appear to be. By the way, YOU ARE WRONG!!! There are plenty of fine, well educated people that live here.

On the one hand, it makes me want to move out of the state .. on the other hand I wish Oprah would pay Forsyth County another visit…

Please let the investigation come to a conclusion before making your conclusions regarding it.

Just because a crime happens in a certain county does not automatically mean a suspect is from that county.

No wonder so many black males are in the prison system when their young are taught that a little weed and a little crack is OK. I won’t argue that there are whites receiving drugs as well, but what about the numbers there? I would say there are more black men doing drugs than white men, and the reason theres more cops in the neighborhood is maybe b/c statistically there is more crime in that area. And if a cop shoots a man black or white b/c of self defense then thats fine by me i would do the same thing as i think you would too…but when a cop kills a black man in self defense is racial, yet if a cop kills a white or mexican it is OK….give me a break….race is a cultural thing not an excuse to scream racism everytime something is done to someone in that community….ALSO let me ask you, would you be mad If there was all white college, a white history month, a white TV channel, a white civil rights movement? Or how bout higher taxes for households who make higher incomes due to their hard work in school such as yourself..that takes sacrifice! yet we are penalized for making more money and send it down to the crack state housing neighborhood where the occupant knows well if i have a 4th baby i can get an extra $400 a month now is that fair????? Sad to say but I am not all that surprised that an incident like this has occurred. There are a heck of a lot of white Christian Southerners with pretensions to greatness, which rest solely on their skin color and their religious affiliations. Now that a black person has risen to the highest office in this land, I am sure they are even angrier than usual—particularly now that, if they actually want the good things in life, they will actually have to earn them and be seen by the community at large as having done so.

I am sure the Secret Service and the Dept of Homeland Security are already on top of this. Whoever did it should be prosecuted as a terrorist.

Wow, all this energy, I am in the process of putting together a Fundraiser for Ms. Pamela Graf because I know that insurance does not cover many costs associated with a house fire. If it turns out that this is what it appears to be thus far, a “Hate Crime”, I am going to do everything in my power to make difference for this women and her family. I have only outlined the above because it is apparent that it is so important to so many of you to justifying yourselves in order to support your personal righteousness against each other that is exposed within your statements. So – there’s my “proof” but nothing that has happened to me or could happen to me could be blamed on race. Generalizing and generating hatred toward any group of people based on the color of one’s skin is simply ignorant. To me the personal assaults I suffered do not given me a “free pass” to condemn the Black Race instead what I do condemn is something else; it is the presence of Hatred that Culminates within Ones Heart if it is feed the nutrients It needs. That is what I Condemn and that is what I Will continue to Condemn for the rest of my life. So today comes news that this women and her boyfriend may be the ones who torched the house. And as far as those racist epithets, the victim/perpetrator in this case is white. Just another case of a liberal committing a crime and trying to plant evidence to point a finger in another direction using their favorite tool, the race card. Anybody remember the college professor in CA who trashed her car, wrote some racial slurs only to have it discovered later that she did it herself. How about the college professor up north who hung a noose from her office door only later to discover that, yup she did it all herself.
