Caroline Kennedy to join Uncle Ted in the Senate?

ABC News says those rumors about Caroline Kennedy taking Hillary Clinton’s N.Y. Senate seat aren’t as crazy as they sound — and that there is a strong chance, come January, she could be serving in the chamber with her Uncle Teddy of Massachusetts:

caroline.jpg

A Democrat who would know tells ABC News that New York governor David Paterson has talked to Caroline Kennedy about taking the seat, which was once held by her uncle, Robert F. Kennedy. It’s not exactly shocking that Paterson would reach out to one of the most highly respected public figures in New York, but this is:

Sources say Kennedy is considering it, and has not ruled out coming to Washington to replace Hillary Clinton in the Senate.

A few years ago, the famously private Caroline Kennedy would be the last Kennedy expected to serve in Congress, but of course, she took on a much more high-profile role during the presidential campaign and, if she does it, would be more than New York’s junior Senator; she’d have closer ties to the Obama White House than any of her colleagues, a direct line to the East Wing.

When Robert Kennedy, Jr. took himself out of the running for the seat earlier this week, he told Jonathan Hicks of the New York Times, “Caroline Kennedy would be the perfect choice if she would agree to it.” And one more thing: We hear that President-elect Obama has made it clear that he thinks Caroline Kennedy would be a great choice.

Remember that Caroline Kennedy, daughter of President John F. Kennedy, was one of the lead vetters assigned the task of looking over vice presidential nominees for Obama.

MSNBC has seconded the possibility, citing New York state Democratic party officials:

Appointing Caroline Kennedy to the seat once held by her uncle Robert would be a very popular choice politically for Paterson, who is under pressure to replace Clinton with a woman.

The Kennedy name on the ballot could help Paterson’s 2010 reelection chances. Paterson became governor after Eliot Spitzer was forced to resign during a prostitution scandal.

The Associated Press has also confirmed Kennedy-Paterson conversations about the Senate seat, and adds this background to the mix:

She met her husband, Edwin Schlossberg, while working at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. They married in 1986 and have three children.

She made a splash in early 2008 by writing an op-ed column for The New York Times declaring her support for Obama, saying he had the potential to be as inspirational to Americans as her father was in the 1960s. She also spoke at the Democratic National Convention.

She then hit the campaign trail with Obama, and worked on the vice-presidential search that eventually settled on Joe Biden.

Another example of a family who think their family name entitles them to public office. The Kennedys, Clintons, and, yes, Bushs, think they are above qualifications. Political dynasties have no place in America.

Caroline Kennedy seems like a decent person who has lived her life with integrity. She went to law school, she’s written a few books, and she is devoted to her family.

However, it is beyond comprehension how being a nice person qulifies her to join the US Senate. What has she ever run for??? What political cause has she devoted her life to? (maintaining the family name doesn’t count) What has she done?

Here’s a question: has Caroline Kennedy ever had a real job: you know, the kind that you have to go to every day or else you get fired?

If the only reason for getting the job that a person can point to is that they are a member of “the lucky sperm club”, then maybe the job should go to somebody else.

You know, someone whose decades of work experience and public service make them a qualified candidate for the position.

Just saying.

“Sir Lee Harvey Oswald”…speaking of disgusting! What kind of person would choose such a name…funny to you, I suppose.

As far as Caroline Kennedy goes: One is not appointed Senator from any state without some pretty serious experience and/or connections…let’s not tease ourselves. Ms. Kennedy doesn’t have experience in public office, but has been involved in public issues for some time. Is there somebody more deserving in New York? Almost certainly. But some of you hacks with your criticism are the same ones who actually voted for Sarah Palin to potentially be the leader of the free world! You must be joking!

She has experience with policy analysis (see S. Palin for antithesis), she knows something about the law (see S. Palin and hubby for the antithesis), she has had experience speaking in complete, coherent sentences in public (see S. Palin for the antithesis), and she has not tried to parade her family in front of the media for votes (see S. Palin for the antithesis.) So, by some Republican standards, she is not qualified for public office, but Sarah is/was.

There is just entirely too much hatred on here, much of it stemming from the fact that it’s now viewed as uncool to speak of any contribution this family, its’ members, etc. might have tried to make to this country. I don’t think people here have direct hang-ups with the Kennedys; I think they just have hang-ups in general. Warts and all, this is a family, despite some media induced mythic stature both created by Joe Sr., and continued to this day. They’ve lost members, most at too early an age, and some of it was not always as reckless as those who hate them would want the rest of us to believe, and while one could argue back & forth all day about Ted or Jack or Bobby, etc., I don;t think the Kennedy family was ever out to screw the American people. That honor may very well go to the more recent “dynasties” we see today. It’s very easy to bust Caroline’s chops, because of her name and lineage, but by all indications, she’s a pretty sharp, educated woman, and if it’s going to come down to experience, look who just got elected? So, that’s a weak argument.

If H. Clinton had any compassion she would be leading the naming of the woman she steamrolled for the nomanation which lead to her election to U.S. Senate. Nita Loye, Really not certain of the spelling. The odds of such occurring are probably about infinite to one as Mrs. Clinton has “moved on, since that is in the past”.

Setting partisan allegiances aside, Ted Kennedy is the most influential member of the US Senate because he routinely reaches across the aisle to sponsor legislation with even the most conservative Republicans — such as Orrin Hatch, a close personal friend of Kennedy’s — on matters for which they can agree. If you don’t believe me, go back and look at the reaction of the Senate Republicans when it was announced that he had a brain tumor. They were every bit as devastated as the Democrats, and it showed. Until we can elect more members who are capable of finding common ground with their political opponents, our national government will remain in a state of gridlock on the most pressing issues of our time.

As for Caroline, she possesses the qualities that we voters always say we want — smarts, humility, empathy, a passion for public service. She has spent the past few years working as the mayor’s advocate for the NYC school — a job took because she cares about public educaiton, and she has the skills to make positive change. Her profile is much more preferable than some career politician who watches polls obsessively and thinks that his time in office is about himself instead of the public that he serves.

Ladies and Gentlemen, what is happening to us? I am reading these blogs and it is amazing to me how we are treating each other worst than animals, WHY??? We are all humans with FREE wills and as such there will be disagreements. More importantly than that let us ALWAYS remember the things that binds us all together, our HUMANITY. We are all human beings and we all want love and happiness in our lives. We want our children to be wiser, more successful, and to achieve and experience more than us. This gives us joy and adds pleasure to our life, these are just some of the many things that we have in common as humans. As Americans we have alot more joys and privileges than most other humans. So all this partisanship, divisiveness, and spewing of hate because of politics is definitely UNAMERICAN. OUR FOUNDING FATHERS DIFFERED ON many issues yet they did not despise one another or show open contempt for those whose thoughts were different. Let us not forget we are the people and we have the power, so if you think Caroline is not a good choice why dont you write the NY governor and advise him so, or let him know if she is a good choice. i honestly dont think that we have to step on each other, ridicule a deceased former President to make our points. This is the present, it is a gift, please let us use the time wisely and try to solve our issues like only Americans can, TOGETHER. Partisanship is not the big immediate issue, getting America back to work and growing our economy is. Lets help each other in our time of uncertainty and put our differences to the side….thank you and i think that a 6 month period of all Americans not paying individual income tax nor social security tax would go a long way to jump start our economy.

Did you expect anything different? If it will get popular votes, the Dems seem to be doing it. Caroline Kennedy has no business in the Senate - she should not take the place of a legitimate hard-working candidate who would not have a chance simply because of the family name. If she isn’t so intent on keeping her status as Kennedy and taking advantage of ‘lucky sperm’, then why doesn’t she use her husbands name - no, it’s just ego, isn’t it? What could her experience bring to the Senate that was any more valuable than mine or anyone else? She should have to provide solid qualifications - just like anyone else. I can’t wait for Michelle Obama to be appointed to some expensive, failed, cause such as health care - the same way Hillary was. What are they going to hand over to Bill Clinton to pay for his ‘support’? Some office with lots of interns? And now we’re hearing about Shirley Franklin - who would have guessed? When will Obama finish paying off other Dems for his job???

Isn’t anybody going to speak up for the people who should be getting appropriate representation? * Think about it!! What about the citizens of New York - don’t they deserve someone who will look out for their interests? How would you feel if they had dragged her down here to ‘represent’ us? Just how much would we be getting out of the bargain? Bragging rights?* I pay too much in taxes to accept bragging rights for some name - I was someone who knows me and my concerns and will work to address them - and handing over that responsibility to someone who wants the position for vanity or selfish concerns is just plain wrong!

Those knocking Caroline Kennedy aren’t of Georgia: Our State has an ancient bias against fascists, and those speaking ill of John Kennedy’s daughter serve the same Anti-Christ Fifth Column faction whose treason killed her father to send us to die for the pope in Vietnam. Roman Catholic fascists aren’t from Georgia or welcome here.

As if the U.S. Senate could be any worse…letting Bush2 get away with 9/11 (Viz. “The New Pearl Harbor,” Griffin, PhD).

The AG had already cut orders and the units shipped to Guam were immediately shipped back “in-country” after Dallas.

Did they only vote against Obama because of the color of his skin though E Pluribus Unum is a truth from G-d and The Founders’?

Now “rich” “men” who have given us the 9/11-committing, draft-dodging closet-queen, whose father killed John and Martin, whose grandfather was the money conduit from the American papist collection plate, to the author of “I Paid Hitler,” and whose family has fronted for the Vatican-banker Rockefellers who built Standard Oil and Roman Catholic “Big Oil” on unredressed murder and arson, tell us they need our fresh printed money on Wall Street - to continue the patently unconstitutional Fed’s fiat-money fractional banking scam President Kennedy tried to arrest (EO11,100) - and in Detroit because we don’t buy the cars they build.

There is but One G-d. Evil does not befall individuals or nations for no reason.
