Vernon Jones schedules an ‘I told you so’ press conference
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
DeKalb County CEO Vernon Jones has scheduled a 2 p.m. press conference in his Decatur office, according to his former campaign spokeswman Camille Kessler.
The purpose, she said, would be to talk about “the election last night, the (Democratic) party itself and his plans.”
Jones, who is exiting the job of CEO, lost a Democratic primary runoff in August to Jim Martin for the U.S. Senate race. Martin was in turn defeated Tuesday in the general election runoff by Republican incumbent Saxby Chambliss.
Martin won 74 percent of the vote in DeKalb on Tuesday. But the 135,850 votes he received numbered nearly 100,000 fewer than he won from DeKalb on Nov. 4.
Martin lost statewide by 315,219 votes — or 42.6 percent, according to the current count on Secretary of State Karen Handel’s web site.
That’s only slightly better than the 42.3 percent that the Atlanta attorney earned in November 2006, when running for lieutenant governor against Republican Casey Cagle.

Rand Knight overreached just a tad with his Senate bid this year, but look for him to be a player when the Georgia Democratic Party leaders decide to pull their heads out of their a—es. (I’m giving then until noon tomorrow, then bringing in the forceps.) Highly-educated, bright, personable, charismatic Democrats DO exist! People of integrity (a quality lost on Jones) who are passionate and fearless (enough to run for Senate first time out), and who truly care about taking the people of Georgia OFF the bottom of every list and improving our economy and schools, while preserving the beauty, traditions, and natural resources that Georgians value.
Saxby won on FEAR, and that’s not saying much for Saxby. A new day is coming for Georgia. Not today, but soon, so keep your heads up!!

Vernon is the Katrina of Georgia. He is lapboy of the white DeKalb power structure. He brought destruction and flooded with corruption. Why? So his owners can pick up the pieces and gentrify DeKalb by chasing out black folks. It won’t happen! It won’t happen! Never again another Katrina in DeKalb. Folks will never leave what is theirs now.

Vernon, please just go away. As a six-year DeKalb resident, please understand from me that we knew what we were doing. I am a democrat but in order of competency for Senator I think most of us thought: “Martin, Chambliss, Vernon” and voted accordingly for Martin when we had the chance, both in the primaries and during the election.

I’m going to be holding an “I told you so” press conference today myself. I told EVERYBODY that Vernon Jones was a loser way back before the primary. I also told everybody that it didn’t matter what candidate the dems selected because he/she was going to lose to Chambliss anyway. The dems are pretty much irrelevent in Georgia outside of downtown Atlanta, Columbus, and Savannah.

GA is still fighting the wars of the past—-the civil war and roe vs wade. Until they can give up on lost causes, Georgia will be a loser like MS, AL, SC….at bottom of all educational statistics. Joe the (fake) Plumber heralded as a hero while Ted Turner, Al Gore and Warren Buffet are mocked and derided….the republican party is hopeless. For them its a race to the bottom of the gene pool.

I hope Sarah Palin is the future of the Republican party. That fact that she didn’t know that Africa was a continent or the countries of North America underscores the fact that most Republicans don’t know or care about actual facts and policies, but are only interested in superficial morals — and I say superficial because most of their beloved politicians do not practice what they preach. (For example, Saxby is a drinker, Martin is a teetotaler.) While it’s clear that Obama could do a fantastic job as president and Palin would still likely carry places like Alaska and Georgia in 2012, common sense would ultimately prevail — Palin is just not electable on the national stage. So yes GOP, please embrace her.

Yes, Georgia is on the bottom of everything … lets think about that. It wasn’t always that way … WHEN DID IT START SINKING TO THE BOTTOM? Was it about the time the USA started to also slowing decline in every category, i.e., in education. Someone should take a closer look to see if the decline began after the Civil Rights Act was passed and standards were lowered. Was it after the influx of all the Northerners to the South?

Dave, Dave, Dave, if you really think that Palin didn’t know those things…you are an idiot. To your great consternation I’m sure, Palin is most decidedly not the “future” of the Republican Party. She has a PLACE in the future of the party, but that certainly will not be in either of the top 2 slots on the 2012 ticket. She will be out there campaigning…you betcha…but she won’t be on the ticket. My guess is that she may end up as the Energy Secretary or possibly at the Dept. of the Interior.
What Palin brought to the table in the ‘08 election was a fresh face and a fresh voice. She was NOT a good choice for VP, but she did tend to energize a portion of the party that wasn’t real excited about McCain to begin with.

Vernon just needs to shut the ** up. His problem is he is too full of himself, because NOBODY else is. He has ruined a very good county. Hopefully, Burrell can bring us back again.
I really didn’t want anyone that was running, once we got past the first election. None of them are any good. Dale Cardwell was my choice. He would/did not take money from any special interest. He was/is looking out for the citizens of this state.
If anyone of the candidates had talked about the issues instead of mud slinging, it might have made a difference.

I was there when Vermin Jones was elected too the office of CEO for DeKalb. Since that time, he has done some good and positive things for the County, but, Jones’ personal life and very public fights with citizens and county staff did not endear him to very many. Hey Vermin, that does not equate to votes. Instead of calling a press conference (that I’m sure will be attended by at least 3 people), you should be undergirding Jim Martin and convincing him that this is a minor setback. But, noooooooo, not you. Egomaniac Jones is going to hold an “I told you so” press conference. Aren’t you the proclaimed Conservative Democrat who sent out the flier with a huge lie about how President Elect Obama and you were going to make change in government, until he found out what you tried and ordered you to cease and decist? Hey aren’t you that same Vernon Jones that voted for Bush….twice??!! And aren’t you that same Vermin Jones who came to my church to say that we needed to vote you in because President Elect Obama would be leaving the US Senate with no representation of a Black America? Man, you’ve got to be kidding me. The Black America I know, short of the painful reminders that we are still not considered a viable part of this society, want leaders that are candid and honest. You Jones are neither. Try anger management. You could really benefit from it.

Whether you like Mr. Jones personality or not he has a point. The Republicans took GA AGAIN. There might be some validity to his statements. I admit Vernon is an expert at overkill at times but he has a point. So called Dekalb residents may talk negatively about him but being a 28 year resident myself I don’t see Dekalb doing massive layoffs like the city of Atlanta. His personality might be a bit much for some but he does know how to balance a budget which is what we need now. Someone who knows how to bring money to the state and create jobs. Sen. Chambliss nor Yes Man Jim can say they know how to do that. Hopefully Jim can find a job ruining another state agency.

Surely you jest. The election was about a senator who had a 15 point lead when he came home and couldn’t deliver the vote. It was no mistake that he politely mentioned working with the President-elct in one of his ads. The day he stated Obama needed him to win GA, I went right out and cast my vote for Martin. He was not worthy of my vote. As an African American woman, I was insulted that he would imply that the color of his skin would make him privileged to have my vote. He is not fit for public life. Just look at the how difficult he has been in the transition for the incoming CEO. He is NOT professional at all. He cares only about himself and that is not what public service is about. That’s one of the best things about the good old US or A - we get to re-evaluate our leaders every few years. I love reading the liberal hate posts on this blog. The more of this the people in Georgia see, the better for the republicans. The looney left served its purpose for Obama who is now putting a centrist cabinet in place and thumbing his nose at the loony tunes from Move On. Org and the Kos that helped him get his start. Vernon Jones has turned into an Uncle Tom to get money from the white power structure in Atlanta and Georgia. The democrat party needs to come up with a black candidate who is not in the pocket of white people, trying to keep people of color down in this state. When Obama gets in office, he and Pelosi need to spend a lot of money down here to get the campaigns for a black candidate in full gear.

I can assure you that if you listened at all during your eight years in office, you would have recognized the truth about how the people feel about you—long before being relegated into the same pot with Cynthia McKinney. These people are not, as Maloof put it, the dozen crazy people who don’t vote.
I did notice one thing about a post in your favor: The punctuation was atrocious and spelling and grammar are worse. Perhaps, that’s why you don’t see your cultic throngs mobbing your greatness here. They either don’t the paper or don’t read at all.
Just some thoughts.
Enjoy your retirement and searching for a real job in a bad recession.

Rumor has it that Vernon has a life sized painting of himself behind his desk. Wonder if he’s going to take it with him or list it on Ebay since he’ll soon be unemployed? By the way, how did he afford 50+ acres and a house on a politicians salary? I also know someone who told me that a couple years ago Vernon was in Madison,GA looking for land with a white lady. She was probably the shill buying the land on his behalf, only to deed it over to him when he was out of office. The land I surmise was purchased with Dekalb Co funds. This is something Fox 5 should look into.

In the race between Chambliss and Martin it was evident neither had done anything. All of the tons of literature that I received told me nasty things about both of them but nothing good that either had done. That is not why I vote for someone because I am scared of the opposition. What I shame that neither had an accomplishment to point to.

JW: No, I’m not joking. Georgians were voting out of hate and fear (as they usually do), and they stupidly hate and fear the Obama administration to come. Saxby and Martin were peripheral voices in their own election.
