Sarah Palin: November election was the result of ‘frustration, disappointment’
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
7 p.m.: Walked out of the Gwinnett auditorium with Tom Baxter, late of this page, who made this observation: That the thousands who attended the Sarah Palin/Saxby Chambliss rally were the most down-scale crowd he’s seen at a GOP event this year.
In other words, these were white, young blue-collar newcomers to the process.
“They’ve got no money,” Baxter noted. Three weeks ago, the Chambliss rally that featured John McCain in Cobb County drew a smaller and substantially different crowd — still white, but older and in business suits.
At the end of the 35-mile drive back to Atlanta, the Jim Martin rally at the state Capitol — featuring U.S. Rep. John Lewis and hip-hop star Ludacris — was just shutting down. Not as large a crowd as the Palin event, but close to a thousand, who gathered in the open on a cold, blustery night. So not a bad showing.
An emphasis on youth was the one thing both events had in common on Monday. We’ll see which side turns out.
4:50 p.m.: The biggest applause lines so far for Sarah Palin have been on abortion and the Second Amendment. She spoke about the remaking of the Republican party.
“”We recognize there was frustration, disappointment by the electorate,” Palin said. Palin promised a GOP that was both conservative and oriented to the American working class.
She just finished, with everyone again standing. All in all, the speech was very similar to the one she gave this morning. Palin goes from here to the National Governors Association meeting in Philadelphia, where the agenda includes a meeting with President-elect Barack Obama.
4:35 p.m.: Sarah Palin, governor of Alaska and former GOP nominee for vice president, just got an extended standing ovation from a crowd of several thousand in the Gwinnett Center.
Palin said re-electing Republican incumbent Saxby Chambliss, and denying Democrats a 60th vote in the Senate, was essential to “maintaining the checks and balances needed for our democracy.”
She mentioned that she had been here once before — a politician always likes to say, “It’s good to be back” — when her oldest son graduated from boot camp at Fort Benning. “Georgia, you took care of my boy, now he’s taking care of you,” she said.
On Chambliss: “Saxby’s not going to be an easy yes vote, but he’s not going to be an automatic no vote,” Palin said.
4:25 p.m.: The preacher has given the invocation. Among the gathering’s sins, he proclaims, is the “political correctness” to which many Americans have succumbed.
“We have broken your laws and called it tolerance,” he said. The preacher thanked God for the nation’s biblical foundations, and for the refusal by some to “to bow to modern idols.”
State Insurance Commissioner John Oxendine led the Pledge of Allegiance. U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson is introducing Saxby Chambliss now.
Chambliss campaign people say 20,000 people have seen Sarah Palin — who hasn’t appeared yet — during the day. Chambliss’ re-election is necessary, Isakson said, “to stop a runaway train.”
4:10 p.m.: Still waiting on Sarah Palin and Saxby Chambliss. But close to 60 people have been standing on the dais waiting for 40 minutes or so. It’s very clear that Georgia’s Republican leadership doesn’t mind being seen with her. Quite the opposite.
You may think that strange, but quite a few Georgia Republicans were more than cautious when it came to being seen with John McCain. Even last month, after he lost.
3:46 p.m.: Just so you realize that very little is impromptu in any campaign, the Insider just spotted an aide passing out a hand-painted “Palin-Chambliss 2012” sign.
This event isn’t far from Ralph Reed’s office in Duluth. He’s here, too. Along with many state lawmakers from Cobb, north Fulton and Gwinnett counties, too. And Cobb County Sheriff Neil Warren.
More hand-crafted signs. “Read my lipstick. Vote Sax.” No porcine references.
3:35 p.m.: Runoff? What runoff?
Oh, the Saxby Chambliss signs are plentiful, but it’s clear even before you walk in that this is a Sarah Palin for President event, four years ahead of its time.
Several thousand people are already here at the Gwinnett Center, a majority grouped in front into one large mosh pit.
A decidedly younger crowd than Republicans usually draw to the events like this, and the music is less twangy as well. More rock than country, and many young ladies with tiaras and beauty contest ribbons.
A Chambliss spokeswoman says the press will have to be satisfied with the stump speech that the governor of Alaska will give here — no separate press availability, where news is more likely to be made.
Three previous speeches — in Augusta, Savannah and Perry — have all been similar. The main theme that Palin has used thus far: That the national GOP needs to be rebuilt, and this is the place to start.
Dozens of people are now packing the stage. Lauren “Bubba” McDonald, a Public Service Commission candidate also in tomorrow’s runoff, has positioned himself so that any straight-on camera that captures Palin will include him in the background.

Governor Sarah Palin has placed the Alaska National Guard on the highest state of alert during her visit to Georgia Today! The Governor wanted to take every precaution against an attack by Russia during her visit to help Senator Chambliss in his election bid. She also said that none of the clothes that she is appearing in are from Saks or Neiman Marcus!

Palin in Gwinnett is preaching to the choir. literally. She’s so deluded that she thinks that Gwinnett represents the majority of the country. How convenient to disregard/forget the butt-kicking that Obama placed on her just last month. However, since she’s glutton for deserved punishment … . She’s an unqualified uneducated rank hypocrite. She’s a thief, and her husband was a member of a lunatic fringe secessionist movement. She even has the audacity to represent her spawn as a hero, when, in fact, he fled to Michigan to escape the consequences of damaging brakes on a school bus. of course, the bible-thumping idiots in Gwinnett adore her and heartily agree of her description of Obama as “Sambo.”

As long as I have covered politics, I never realized until now that one of the most powerful people working the government scam right under my nose was a seemingly meek, bleeding-heart Democrat named Jim Martin.
Republican Sen. Saxby Chambliss and his sidekick consultant Tom Perdue (no kin to Gov. Sonny) have set me straight. Their TV ads tell me Martin is responsible for the state’s highest tax increase. As a state legislator, Martin raised his own expense account by 27 percent, they inform me. He has been the villainous manipulator of so many irresponsible and greedy power grabs that I cannot possibly list them here, Saxby’s folks say.
Wow! How could I have missed Martin? There I was wasting my time trying to fathom what Zell Miller or Tom Murphy might do next. I worried over Sen. Paul Coverdell and Gov. Jimmy Carter. In my rush to splash ink on these notables, I barely noticed Martin. I never thought of him as a behind-the-scenes power. I thought he was just another back-bench lawmaker and later a bureaucrat whose moderate politics were much too soft to compete with Georgia’s killer Republicans. Now I know differently. Martin misled me. He apparently was, in reality, the ever-devious Boss Jim, wearing a disguise worthy of Lon Chaney.
When Martin finally decided to reveal his true identity and run for the U.S. Senate, Saxby and his corporate buds wasted no time in exposing Martin for who he is - a ruthless, care-not Democrat with untold powers over taxes and expense vouchers. They also tell us Martin is a big buddy of Barack Hussein Obama, just elected president of most of the United States.
I should have known that Sax would let the cat out of the bag. Remember the first time Chambliss ran for the Senate and ordered up a series of informational ads?
In those remarkable spots, Chambliss ran photos of incumbent Sen. Max Cleland with Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein. He let Georgians know that Max sort of hung out with those bad guys. Never mind that Cleland left three limbs on the battlefield of Vietnam when he was an American infantry captain. Sax, of course, whipped Max good at the polls.
Now Chambliss makes campaign appearances with a triple-amputee (not Max) seated on the platform just to show he has no hard feelings. Of course, Sen. Chambliss somehow missed the Vietnam mess. He said he couldn’t go because he had a hurt knee. I certainly understand how he felt. I have bad knees, and nothing hurts worse. I think I injured them while I was guarding the Rhine River against Chinese Communists during the Korean War.
Sorry, folks. An old man’s mind wanders. Back to Sax and Boss Jim. Since (as some of you know) I am a betting man, I have just wagered $50 on Chambliss to win the Dec. 2 runoff election. I had to give to the bookie 1,000 votes and Martin. I feel pretty good about my wager. Saxby has outspent Martin on TV commercials by a wide margin. Georgia still is a deep-red state. Despite all, Saxby is a decent-looking candidate with just enough gravitas to be a senator but not a windbag.
Still, I worry about Sax when he gets back to D.C. for his next term. He may get a bit lonesome on the Hill. W. won’t be there to cheer him up and advise him on how to vote. His little buddy, Johnny Isakson, the other Cracker senator, is in the same boat. He has an “R” by his name, too. Lucky for Johnny, however, he has not quite earned the kind of reputation Saxby has. The ruling Democrats will be on the lookout for Saxby just so they can slam the door in his face when he approaches or hang up on him when he calls. Johnny hasn’t made enough of a mark for the Obama organization to be laying for him.
When you look at Saxby and Johnny, you have to wonder how Georgia could have ended up with these two guys in Washington to represent them in these dire times. They’ll be lucky to get appointments to the window-washing and elevator-maintenance committees.
You also ought to keep in mind that what Saxby does in Washington in his second term will stay in Washington. It sure as heck won’t make it back home to help Georgians - not after he beats Boss Jim, who is indeed a pal of the Barack bunch.

Last year Saxby decides to work with a bunch of LIBERAL democrats to give a bunch of Illegals AMNESTY. We all yelled and Saxby changed his mind. This year Saxby works with a bunch of LIBERAL Democrats to put a windfall tax on oil. We are yelling but Saxby is listening to lobbyist not the voter. I am voting for a a Moderate Jim Martin. You just have to wonder what Saxby will work out with the LIBERAL Democrats next year & what he does when we are not watching.

Wind fall taxes on oil are the only way to fund the social programs necessary for America. Chambliss is a man President Obama can work with but to be truthful after listening to Chambliss bob & weave on the radio, I wonder if he is honest? If Chambliss keeps working for Obama he will have my vote come tomorrow.

SAXBY ECONOMICS
The markets had been down significantly this morning, but they took an even steeper decline after the announcement. The Dow Jones industrial average fell more than 7 percent, or more than 650 points, while the Standard & Poor’s 500-stock index dropped nearly 9 percent, or 80 points. The tech-heavy Nasdaq was down nearly 9 percent, or 137 points.
The losses were broad based, but the financial sector took some of the deepest losses. Citigroup was down 12 percent after rallying last week when a government bailout of the firm was announced. Bank of America and J.P. Morgan were down 11 percent and 9 percent respectively.
General Electric was down 8 percent after Citigroup analyst Jeffrey T. Sprague said in a research note that he expects the company to lower its profit expectations for next year.

If I could ask the journalists at the ACJ one question, (that they had to answer honestly) It would be: “Do you feel at all guilty about knowingly lying to the public in your reporting?” Just today the ACJ reported a crowd of “3-4 thousand’ at the Palin rally at Gwinnett. I’m no Palin lackey but there were at least twice and maybe three times that many. Why lie?

I feel as if I’m a fairly conservative democrat, and this run off has changed my mind on this election, and today was the !. Martin was campaigning with one of music’s dirtiest “artists” - Ludacris. Enclosed are some of the lyrics to one of his songs:
“Whips and chains, handcuffs, smack a little booty up with my belt Scream help play my game, Dracula Man, I’ll get my fangs Horseback and I’ll get my reigns School teacher let me get my brains”
Enough said. One question for Martin…does he agree with these lyrics?

Mitt Romney stated, but now he’s pro life, Romney invented the flip-flop, and STRIKE THREE the spokeswomen for ‘Republican LIP SERVICE’ Alaska Gov Sarah Palin, who has never said ONE positive thing in her life, it’s the same Sewer Talk that comes from people like, LIMBAUGH, HANNITY, no wonder why McCain never placed her in front of the Press, she went to the same Speech school as President Bush.

Reading the analyses of election 2008, Democrats can only hope the GOP chooses Palin. The result will keep the GOP even more regional, older and marginalized than it is now. In order for the GOP to regain its status as a national party, it has to address the needs of minorities, young voters and suburanites. Imagine Palin as your President right now. Scary isn’t it? The GOP has to get serious about it’s future. It will have eight years to do that.

One other thing, to set the record straight. Max Cleland didn’t lose three limbs on a battlefield. He lost three limbs because a grenade accident in a non-combat situation. Yes, he deserves praise for fighting in Vietnam but let’s not pretend that he lost his limbs in battle. And how many of the people here calling Chambliss a draft dodger had no problem voting for draft dodger Bill Clinton against George H. W. Bush (shot down by the Japanese in WW2) and Bob Dole (who did lose the use of his arm in battle) and Barack Obama against John McCain (tortured by the Vietnamese to the point where he can’t lift his arms above his head)? Or does military service and war injuries only matter when it’s politically expedient?

On Nov 4th I went to my same voting precinct of the last 3 Presidential elections and was met by 20 Black Thugs disguised as poll volunteers.
They ignored the elderly and handicapped voters waiting patiently in line for 3 hours when State Law requires that they be given all courtesy and moved to the front of the line.
These Thugs “announced” and “applauded” black first time voters as if we were at some high school basketball pep rally.
The Army Boot wearing “Poll Watcher” followed (shaded) me from the time I entered the front door to the time I was about to place my vote. I finally told him that if he didn’t stop breathing on me that I would call the police. He scurried back to the corner of the room.

Look down your noses and chuckle at Sarah Palin all you want. She represents far more of America than President-Elect Obama ever will. It will merely take a few years for many Americans to see through the front put up by his sycophants in the media.
The pomposity with which these people dismiss Sarah Palin and the many “regular people” who support her could very well come back to haunt them — if they actually permit another election, that is.

Wait, she didn’t say “This is all in god’s hands”? Oh wait, that didn’t work last time did it?
It is funny that the citizens of Alaska pays Palin to campaign like this.

I’d vote for a golden retreiver before letting the senate be controlled by gimmeecrats. Believe me, after 4 years of Obama/Clinton, Miss Sarah is going to look darn good.

George Bush was a great President, and Sarah Palin will be just as good in 2012. Until then, we need Saxby to continue the Bush policies.

Saxby is not Bush. That is just all liberal lies. Saxby is going to win this thing with room to spare. Most GA are not buying the liberal line.

Early exit polling is showing that Sissy Saxby has a huge lead. I am not even going to bother to vote at this point. Martin was the wrong candidate, he is too boring. He should record his voice and sell it as a sleep aid. I hate Sissy Saxby, but we will have him for at least another 6 years.

I have a confession to make. I am the only person posting anti Saxby posts. I have been using multiple names (American Bail out College Fund, US MARINES for JIM MARTIN and countless others) to make it look as though there is a ground well of support for Martin. Sadly, I have failed. I have called my shrink and he is going to stay on the phone with me while the poll results come in tonight. My family has also arranged a sitter for me. The real sad thing is that after today I am out of job. I have been on the democratic payroll for months now, and I guess it is back to the welfare office. I irrationally hate Saxby.

Massive Republican turn out reported in middle and south GA. I just left he polling place and most of those in line were Saxby supporters. I only saw 3 blacks and that is very different from election day. I fear that Saxby is going to walk away with this one.
