Chris Wallace to Saxby Chambliss: ‘Greenspan said we were headed for recession back in April’

Saxby Chambliss, the Republican incumbent in Tuesday’s runoff for U.S. Senate, appeared in a 10-minute segment this morning on “Fox News Sunday with Chris Wallace.”

Democrat Jim Martin was invited but declined, Wallace said.

No major news was committed. YouTube segments are available, but we’re waiting on the sanctioned Fox clip before we embed any video.

Wallace noted that the enthusiasm of African-American voters seems to have cooled here, and posited that this could be an advantage for Chambliss, who finished first on Nov. 4.

The senator predicted that “if voters turn out again in the same ratios….then, obviously, we’ll win again.”

But the more interesting exchange came on the topic of economics, in which Wallace took up many of the Democratic arguments. Wallace showed a Martin TV ad in which Chambliss — quoted in July — disputes that the U.S. was in recession:

Wallace: Your opponent, Jim Martin, says that you voted for the Bush policies that got us into this mess and he notes that you voted for the $700 billion bailout in September. He voted against it.

Chambliss: Well, he says he would have voted against it. Of course, the guy that he’s joined at the hip with, President-elect Obama, voted for it. You know, that clip is interesting. That was about four seconds out of a 40-minute speech I gave that morning — and which, incidentally, when I made that statement, I was quoting Alan Greenspan, who I have a lot more confidence in than I do Mr. Martin’s judgment on the economy.

Wallace: Senator, may I just bring you up on that? Because that quote, when you said, “I don’t know if we’re in a recession, I don’t know what that means,” you said that in July of this year. And in fact, in April of this year, several months before, Alan Greenspan had said we’re headed into a recession.

Chambliss: Yes, well, you know, there was a real question about what is the definition of a recession. A recession, Chris, if you’ll remember, it was supposed to be two consecutive months of negative [Gross Domestic Product], and at that point in time we hadn’t seen that.

But you know, economists disagree on the technical definition of recession, and obviously that’s what I was talking about…

Wallace: But Senator Chambliss, the Martin camp says that you have been far too trusting of Treasury Secretary Paulson and the bailout, which you voted for. And they point out to what you said… a couple of weeks ago.

You said, “If the smart people in the financial community think this is the best way to go, I think we have to respect that. I do trust folks who deal with these issues on a daily basis like folks in the financial community.”

Senator, after everything we’ve seen in the last month or so, do you still trust Wall Street and would you still vote for the financial bailout?

Chambliss: Well, I didn’t say I trust Wall Street. I said people in the financial community. And I think Hank Paulson is a smart guy. And I listen to what he says. But he’s not the only one I listen to. Listen, I talk to dozens and dozens of bankers in Georgia, both from small community banks to big banks.

I talk to business people who were seeing their lines of credit pulled and were starting to have to — or having to lay people off. Those are the kinds people that I listen to, to make sure that we put policies in place that are going to free up this credit market, going to ease this crunch that we find ourselves in.

And you know, there comes a point in time from a military standpoint, you trust your military leadership. From a business standpoint, you have to trust business leaders. And, sure, I listen to those folks and, sure, I’ve based my opinions on what they’ve said….

I’d take that bet.

He’s got an R.

That’s all he needs to win.

Another R might beat him, but that’s about the only way he’s going down.

Saxby the granddaughter groper trusts every other type of “leader” when, in fact, a U.S. Senator is supposed to be a leader drawing on wisdom and intelligence to provide direction in peace and in crisis for Our Nation.

Chambliss proved his lack of character, courage, or wisdom when he dodged Vietnam yet didn’t protest a war he was unwilling to fight. He is no man, no patriot, and no leader…and from the YouTube video linked above he may also be as big a pervert as so many others in his party like Bush, Larry Craig, Cheney, Mark Foley, et al.

It is not a coincidence that such as they have led us into such dire economic and political straits getting us killed shedding innocent blood predicated on their false-flag treason.

Let’s put Jim Martin in the Senate and rebuke Chambliss along with the rest of his G.ay O.ld P.ervert panderers. Georgia is the best state in the Union, it is only fitting that we take advantage of this run-off to get on the Obama Bandwagon so clearly a product of grace and the People’s legitimate Election.

This is one “R” that plans on voting against him….P.S. Saxby, it is not two months but two consecutive quarters of negative growth in the GDP that defines a recession. Sorry but you fail again, just like your vote for 800 Billion.

The period 2003 through 2008 has been the most fiscally irresponsible period in U.S History and Saxby Chambliss as been a complicit enabler to Bush/Cheney fostering the economic insecurity Georgians currently face.

Mr. Wallace, enough of this blame Bush crap! The Democrats are the primary cause of this mortgage crisis. Taking kickbacks from Fannie Mae and Feddie Mac (the heart of Wall street corruption) while ignoring the warning signs years ago, ACORN, and so on. President Bush and Senator McCain tried to stop this economic “melt down” with their demands for oversight (a BUSH POLICY that should have been implmented) into Fannie Mae and Feddie Mac but were opposed by democrats, who were in bed with this “heart of Wall Street corruption” machine.

Rightminded, you have got to be kidding. The repugs have been in charge for 8 years. The democrats have had a majority for 2….Anything they wanted to do would be vetoed by Bush…If things were so bad, why didn’t they do something to change things when they had the majority and Bush to sign it? It’s called GREED!!!

Reasons why Senator Chambliss should stay: The Congressional Budget Office says that the biggest threat to the future of our economy is NOT our current debt level, but rather ENTITLEMENT SPENDING. So who are the big spenders in Washington? Citizens Against Government Waste and the National Taxpayers Union - the top two taxpayer watchdog groups in the country can answer that question very well with their 2007 CONGRESSIONAL APPROVAL RATINGS. Starting with CAGW:

US House: Republicans 60% Democrats 5% US Senate: Republicans 67% Democrats 5%

Now, let us take a look at National Taxpayers Union:

US House: Republicans 69% Democrats 6% US Senate: Republicans 66% Democrats 8%

Mr. Gadawgs, GREED? You say? Mainstream liberal media kool aid drinkers like you are quick to FORGET that the Republicans NEVER had a FILIBUSTER-PROOF majority in the senate! Something that the Democrats are DESPERATELY pursuing - seeing that they KNOW the POWER of a FILIBUSTER! Also, not to mention the fact that the Democrats controled the Senate during the first two years President Bush’s first term. So therefore, as I see it, the Democrats have had control of the Senate for FOUR of these past eight years!

You forget that Republicans have NO MORE CREDIBILITY WITH ANYONE.

But you won’t change.

If it weren’t for the fact that people are sheep with incredibly short memories, no Republican would ever be elected to anything ever again.

RightMinded,

The moment you mentioned ACORN, is when all future arguments fall flat. That’s been debunked - Republicans have repeatedly tried voter suppression tactics against ACORN. Look up “Help spread the truth about ACORN” on YouTube.

While I have no point of view either way for Chambliss or Martin, I do find it irritating to see the same old rhetoric that obviously involved “drinking the kool-aid”. Quite ironic to see that statement being said to a “liberal” (really, do you know if the person is liberal? Assumption leads to mockery).

Oh, and McCain was against regulating Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. To insult people who “were in bed”, you’re insulting the very side you’re arguing for. Delicious cake.

WE HAVE MORE TO DO:

Democrat Jim Martin is in a runoff against Bush Republican Saxby Chambliss for the Senate seat from Georgia. Bush’s Saxby Chambliss voted against spending a few measly dollars to provide health care coverage for Georgia, and Americas needy children. But he supported wasting hundreds of billions of your dollars, and the life BLOOD of Americas finest on an unnecessary war in Iraq.

At a time when 47 million of you have no health insurance coverage, and over 100 million of you with insurance are just one major illness away from complete financial destruction. Bush and Saxby Chambliss voted to make the heart break of bankruptcy relief even harder for all of you to use.

You see, Bush and Saxby Chambliss, and his family don’t have to worry about their health care coverage. They have the finest health care coverage your tax money can buy for them. Courtesy of you. The American Tax payer. In fact, no one but the super rich can afford the health care coverage you the tax payer provide for Saxby Chambliss, and his family for FREE! with your tax dollars.

He supposedly works for you. But he doesn’t think you and your family should have access to the type of taxpayer supported FREE health care that you provide for him, and his loved ones for FREE!. Doesn’t that just make you BURRING MAD!

Vote for JIM MARTIN for US senator from Georgia. Vote for JIM Martin who will be on your side. Vote for JIM MARTIN who will work with President Obama and a majority congress for you. Vote for JIM MARTIN most of all for your-self, your family’s, friends, and loved ones. Vote for JIM MARTIN for a better America, and a better World.

Don’t let Saxby Chambliss make a chump out of you by tricking you into voting against your own best interest. Saxby chambliss is NOT! on your side. He’s not one of you. He is on George Bush’s side. And we all know what a catastrophe the Bush Chambliss administration has been the past 8 years.

Contact all your family and friends and do every thing you can to see to it that JIM MARTIN and GEORGIANS! take that senate seat back for Georgia, and America. No matter where you live in America. This is important to you. President Obama will need all the help, and power you can give him to try and fix this catastrophic mess that the Corrupt Bush Chambliss administration has created.

As I said before you will have to vote in overwhelming numbers to overcome the Bush Chambliss “Let Them Eat Cake” vote fraud machine. Vote early if you can. Then help everyone you can get to the polls and vote for JIM MARTIN. You and your loved ones don’t have to be Saxby Chambliss’s victims anymore.

I know you will get it done. Just like you did for President Obama.

God bless all of you

Dear Rightminded - You are WRONG. The dems did NOT control the Congress for 4 of Bush’s 8 years. In fact you are WAY WRONG. Since Bush took office 1/2001 until 1/2007 the Republicans controlled BOTH the House & Senate for all BUT 39 DAYS!!!! Facts:

106th Congress (1999 - 2001) * Republicans control both house & senate Senate: 46 D, 54R House: 211 D, 223R

107th Congress (2001 - 2003) * Republicans control house and split senate for all but 39 DAYS. —- 1/1/2001 - 11/5/2002 Senate: 49 D, 49R House: 211 D, 221R —- 11/25/2002 - 1/1/2003 Senate: 50 D, 48 R House: 209 D, 222R ** Senate evenly split from 1/1/2001 - 11/25/2002 — Dems had majority after Congress convened for the Holidays

108th Congress (2003 - 2005) * Republicans control house & senate Senate: 49 D, 51R House: 207 D, 225R

109th Congress (2005 - 2007) was as follows: * Republicans control both house & senate Senate: 44 D, 55 R House: 202 D, 231 R

110th Congress (2007 - 2009_ * With 2 Liberals voting with dems, Democrats control both house & senate Senate: 48 D, 2 L, 49 R House: 236 D, 198 R

Summary: Since Bush took office, January 2001 - January 2007 - Republicans controlled both the house & senate for all but 39 days … Hardly a 4 year democrat controlled senate.

CurtJ is really Will Jones. Hey, Will, 911 was not an inside job. Pope, Bush, Rome, Rockefeller noses and treason. Booga, booga, booga….

CurtJ makes good sense but is not I…just another outraged American.

Those who wish to avail themselves of righteous, vetted scholarship by an academic of unimpeached integrity and sterling reputation need only read Emeritus Professor David Ray Griffin’s “The New Pearl Harbor,” to know with enough moral certainty to “pull the switch” after due process and capital sentencing that Bush and Cheney committed 9/11. Scanning the reviews on Amazon.com by named reviewers willing to risk their own reputations by sharing with our fellow citizens their take on the book, will also suffice and save the purchase price.

The quick and dirty take on the matter can be ascertained by simply googling “Mineta testimony” and watching an eyewitness’ account of Cheney’s standdown order to permit the “bogey,” long tracked as it approached the Pentagon by our military, with its ability to shoot it down, to kill the innocent personnel there.

This is not an issue for anonymous blowhards to have a say. It is a charge of treason against the president and vice-president by this Army Veteran yet under The Oath to protect the Constitution from all Enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC.

I admonish all who share that Oath to respond with the blood and courage you summoned on that day you stepped to The Line and placed your life at sacrifice for Our Nation and People.

Obama is but a small step in the right direction. Bush and Cheney must hang and Our Armed Forces withdrawn from the false war the homosexual draft-dodger, cheated into the White House by only the Roman Catholics on the Supreme Court, treasonously lied us into with fabricated evidence of weapons of mass destruction.

Bush’s “good buddy,” and either dumb as dirt or a pedophile (watch his Thanksgiving Ad as he gropes his granddaughter), Chambliss must go too. He is complicit with Bush for his having failed to arrest the course of the Bush/Cheney treason which is culminating in hyper-inflation to reward Wall Street fatcats with welfare fascism as the false-elite drains our economy and the Bush-backing Rockefellers drop the price of oil to avoid Congressional hearings on their gouge and retribution by an outraged People.

All that is required for Evil to triumph is that the Good do nothing.

If you are good and decent in Georgia, vote for Jim Martin to send a true signal to all our countrymen and women that Georgia seeks to keep the Divine Covenant entered into by our Black, White, Jew, and Gentile Founders in 1776 at Philadelphia.

America must live and prosper: Annuit Coeptis.

The Cancer/Bablon/Fifth Column must be extirpated.

The pedophile/pervert spirit of Bush and Chambliss must be rebuked and exorcised. It is we who must do it at the ballot box today.

May G-d Bless America once more.
