Sarah Palin and the Thanksgiving execution video
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
A six-minute video is quickly making the rounds this morning, featuring Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska giving a Thanksgiving pardon to a rather ugly, 30-pound Tom.
But unbeknownst to the former GOP vice presidential nominee, the background of a post-pardon press conference — in which Palin declares that she still has a light heart — includes a smiling turkey executioner, doing what he does best.
This is the MSNBC version. The network has thoughtfully smudged the most graphic portions:

On the upside, the turkey grinder backdrop completely distracts the viewer from another display of Palin’s inability to string together a coherent sentence. So really, everybody wins. (except the beheaded turkey)

We have a debate going on at my job about Palin & 2012. My liberal friends are all clucking & saying “bring it on!” (they actually sound a lot like neocons circa 2003/3004)
I’m trying to warn them against that kind of hubris; never underestimate a politician’s ability to have a second act (nor the public’s ability to forget; after all, we elected The Terminator AND Jesse “The Body” Ventura to governorships).
With four years of practice, even our own linguistically-challenged Alaskan Gov could conceivably resurrect her image.
But not if she keeps putting out stinkbombs like this.
Simply amazing…

This is just another situation where the liberal media is trying to show her in an unflattering way. If it had been a liberal democrat in the video the camera man would have shown them from a different direction with a different background. All smears like this do are to make people more aware of how trivialized and insignificant the media has become. Remember, 46%, almost half, of the American public voted for McCain/Palin in the past election. Is the media going to try to smear her for the next four years in fear that she will run again?

It wasn’t her fault/decision for the interviewer to take candid shots. Interviewer/photographer should have had the fortitude to intervene!! Shame on them… Give her a break!! If you don’t, you’re no better than the interviewer!

Definitely. I think the interviewer and camera crew should have stopped and relocated to another position.
But then again, maybe they take videos while someone’s using the bathroom too, so you just have to consider the source.

Russ, you’re overlooking the fact that Palin APPROVED of that particular backdrop.
(similar to the whining about that hardcore brass-knuckles journalist, Katie Couric)
(har)
The point is, most other politicians wouldn’t be STOOPID enough to allow themselves to be interviewed/photographed in front of a turkey grinder doing its thing.
Still, let’s assume that your original point had merit and Palin was being manipulated & made to look foolish by a journalist & cameraman. If she can be outsmarted by those two, how would she have fared against savvier opponents like, let’s say, Putin? Or Ahmadinejad?
I’m not convinced that Obama’s the answer, but at least he’s not a world-class doofus.

If anybody should be embarrassed, it’s Palin’s PR person. That’s my line of work & that video above would be grounds for an immediate sacking.
Don’t make the media into a villain here; they’re just trying to craft the most interesting story possible (and I’m sorry, but politicians looking foolish usually qualifies); it’s up to the politician to neutralize those efforts or spin them to their advantage.
Palin didn’t possess even a shred of insight - couldn’t see one single move ahead as to how this would look (much less the 5-to-10 moves ahead that good politicians need to be effective) and allowed herself to be portrayed in this manner.
And that’s precisely why she’s unfit to serve our country at a high level. She’s just not smart enough. Face it.

Does no one else see the contradiction here?
The same commenters here who have screamed about Obama “getting a pass” from the media (which has some truth) are the very people who are suggesting that the media should have “given Palin a break” here.
Is the media supposed to be tough? Or are they supposed to protect? Or does it depend on whether they have an (R) or a (D) after their names? Make up your mind.

America is ruled today by fascist plutocracy which needs morally compromised “intermediaries” through whom to manipulate the People. Pervert draft-dodgers like Gingrich and faction “legacies” like Bush (Is Waco/NAFTA Bill Clinton Winthrop Rockefeller’s yardbaby? Compare their noses.) are doing the work of Pierre DuPont and the Rockefellers to maintain rule by a transparently obvious treasonous false-elite.
Sarah Palin is one of their “hires.” She is a low I.Q. - “Dull/Normal” - with the ideology and hypocrisy of fascists and traitors serving Roman Catholic Big Oil and the Roman Anti-Christ’s Fifth Column. Her absence of grace is overt and her addition to the Married to the Mob McCain ticket was a test of America’s willingness to support the American Creed and the Founders’ Covenant.
“Righteousness exalteth a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.”
Bush and Cheney, and their accomplices, must hang for 9/11 (Viz. “The New Pearl Harbor,” Griffin, PhD), and Bush’s father and his cabal must hang for killing John Kennedy. A natural death has already allowed Nixon to escape American Justice.
Their faction’s ill-gotten gains must be expropriated…as it is they who are tanking our capital markets…welfare fascism ended, and would-be Americans enlightened as to their errors in support of treason and fascism and the incorrigible deported and banished.
Constitutional money along with the People’s sovereignty must be restored that the American Dream yet live.
Obama, Elect by the People, is but a first step in the right direction.
Those who speak evil of him and continue to support the treasonous Bushite faction…Rome’s rightwing fascist perverts like Mike Gallagher and Rush Limbaugh, et al…must be recognized as the Enemies of the People that they are.
Come to the Creed America. Annuit Coeptis, there is but one Creator: “The King of America which reigneth Above.”

Wow, this is breaking news.
Unless the turkey being killed is the one she ‘pardoned’, I have absolutely no idea why anyone would find this A) remotely interesting or B) in any way a gaff on her part.
So a turkey got killed at a turkey farm and Sarah Palin was filmed standing near it, whoop-de-doo. Don’t you people have something better to do with your time? You know, like sticking pins in your Sarah Palin voodoo dolls or something equally intelligent?

Please, Russ and the rest of you people saying the “liberal media” is just trying to make this bubblehead look bad. SHE makes herself look bad—and STUPID—every time she opens her stupid mouth! Unfreakin’ believable.
You folks can’t see the forest for the trees and want to blame the media and others for your failures and buffonery. HOW could ANYONE with a functional BRAIN have voted for this airhead to be VP/potential Prez?
I’m waiting for the DVD showing the gaffes of GW BUSH and Sarah Palin. That would be TOOOOOO funny.
Palin—and her handlers—put her in this spot, NOT the media. I’m with you, sane jane. And Palin needs to go to school and learn how to string a sentence together. The problem with this video is….
What, to graphic for all you bed wetter’s?
What did you think happened, the turkeys committed suicide all by their lonesome?
Just because most of you have never experienced ‘farm’ life, you think it is an embarrassment to be filmed next to or participating in this activity?
Where the he11 do you think that turkey ball you eat comes from? Lord forbid you saw where that steak dinner comes from.
Here’s a little tidbit that I firmly believe in:
* A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.” ………………….. Robert Heinlein……………………………*

I’ll be happy to stop talking about Sarah Palin when she stops giving interviews that demonstrate her breathtaking incompetence.
You know, that whole “democracy requires participation” thing. We’re all vetting her. Live with it.
Speaking of, how dumb does Fox / Rush / Hannity / O’Reilly look when they scream “The media won’t investigate Obama!”? They do know Fox & talk radio are the media, right?
If there’s a story, go get it, fellas. Back in the old days (I’m 33), newspapers actually competed to “scoop” one another. Now they just gripe about the efforts of others.
Will say this, though - if Palin promises not to seek high office again, I’d agree to leave her alone (even with these ridiculous interviews). She serves the people of Alaska, so it’s really their issue to resolve.

She makes a fool of herself by being unable to talk substantively on the issues of the day. It has nothing to do with turkey killing (other the utter PR tone deafness of it all. Yes, I understand where my turkey burgers come from, but that doesn’t mean I want the gruesome grinder as a backdrop for my interview).
She displays no deeper understanding of ANY subject matter she “discusses”. She simply repeats empty soundbytes. (and winks)
(this is why she was abandoned by conservative intellectuals, by the way. They recognized her vapidity & didn’t want that representing them)
It’s really no more complex than that. She’s an attractive, charismatic person who hasn’t seriously studied the issues of the day. Period.
Serving the needs of Joe Sixpack does not mean you have to actually ELECT Joe Sixpack.

Her speech style is bizarre, isn’t it? The danger is that if she ever stopped to take a breath, oxygen might get to her brain… and then she couldn’t be a right-wing spokesmodel any more.

It is Bush’s fault that we all murder turkeys. All turkeys used to live long wonderful lives before Bush. It is Bush’s fault that bed wetting libs like me cannot get over ourselves and that we hate Plain for no other reason than she did not abort her retard baby. I hate Bush!!!!

Uh no, it is just racist to kill WHITE turkeys exclusively, or BLACK turkeys exclusively.
But since that turkey farm seems to be non-integrated, and houses white turkeys exclusively, maybe it is racist… :-)

Duke,
My father raised swine in addition to our raising our own beef and keeping chickens. I currently just keep chickens for meat and eggs. I have plucked my share of chickens but don’t particularly relish the idea of seeing them get their heads lopped off—nor did I particularly want to see what I saw in this video.
The point is that most people nowadays don’t live on farms. They live in cities and usually never witness this sort of thing. Sarah Palin is so self-involved and so friggen obtuse that she never bothered to think about what in that backdrop might offend the sensibilities of others.
Any politician who is so clueless as to not even consider how a scene like that might affect an average person is a moron. After all, the primary activity of any politician is finding ways to connect with the public. I really think she should go back to sportscasting, which is what she trained for. After all, it requires little intellect or sensitivity. It only requires that one stick to the written script.

Densie is a namby pamby lib. One line summed up her support for libs and explains her failure in life. See, if you live your life walking on eggs shells out of fear that one “might offend the sensibilities of others,” you are doomed to be one of life’s little sob stories. You have to break a few eggs to make an omelet, sweetie.

I’m all for Ms. Palin entering national politics. Her insight into the difficulties this country is facing and ability to articulate her views is what we need right now. She is the best the Republican party can offer and will provide wit and wisdom along with comedy relief. Comedians the world over will praise her name.
