Atlanta Press Club cancels U.S. Senate debate
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
A few minutes ago, the Atlanta Press Club officially canceled its plans for hosting U.S. Senate runoff debate for Sunday, executive director Lauri Straus said.
Neither Democrat Jim Martin nor Republican incumbent Saxby Chambliss would commit — each citing scheduling conflicts. Martin pointed to a visit from former Vice President Al Gore, and the Chambliss campaign said it had a fund-raiser on its calendar.
Press club debates involving two other runoffs, for Public Service Commission and the state Court of Appeals, will be held Sunday.

This election has become the most important one for anyone concerned about the liberals running rampant up in Washington. Without this Senate seat, there would be no barrier (by way of filibusters) for the Democrats to run roughshod over everyone. The best candidate for this seat is clearly Saxby Chambliss. He has not resorted to lies and distortions, as his opponent has, and has the experience and leadership we need. His support of the Fair Tax is clearly a replacement system for all current forms of taxation, not an added tax, as his opponent would have you believe. This is TOO IMPORTANT to stay home on December2nd, or to go now and vote early.

Oh yes, Big Jake. I forgot how we got here in the first place. It must not have been for Bush and Company trampelling the constitution to their benefit. What about those great ads Saxby ran two years ago vs. Max Cleland? Saxby’s a coward. But the past 8 yrs MUST be the democrats fault- that’s right they had the run of the senate for 2 yrs!

It is so funny how the republicans are quaking now… none of them ever objected to the GOP maintaining control over the legislative branches for most of the last 15 years, and the executive branch for the last 8. But now, it’s WRONG for the Democrats to have control!! Oooh! Checks and balances are so important when your party has been unceremoniously booted from the nicer washroom!

WE HAVE MORE TO DO:
Democrat Jim Martin is in a runoff against Bush Republican Saxby Chambliss for the Senate seat from Georgia. Bush’s Saxby Chambliss voted against spending a few measly dollars to provide health care coverage for Georgia, and Americas needy children. But he supported wasting hundreds of billions of your dollars, and the life BLOOD of Americas finest on an unnecessary war in Iraq.
At a time when 47 million of you have no health insurance coverage, and over 100 million of you with insurance are just one major illness away from complete financial destruction. Bush and Saxby Chambliss voted to make the heart break of bankruptcy relief even harder for all of you to use.
You see, Bush and Saxby Chambliss, and his family don’t have to worry about their health care coverage. They have the finest health care coverage your tax money can buy for them. Courtesy of you. The American Tax payer. In fact, no one but the super rich can afford the health care coverage you the tax payer provide for Saxby Chambliss, and his family for FREE! with your tax dollars.
He supposedly works for you. But he doesn’t think you and your family should have access to the type of taxpayer supported FREE health care that you provide for him, and his loved ones for FREE!. Doesn’t that just make you BURRING MAD!
Vote for JIM MARTIN for US senator from Georgia. Vote for JIM Martin who will be on your side. Vote for JIM MARTIN who will work with President Obama and a majority congress for you. Vote for JIM MARTIN most of all for your-self, your family’s, friends, and loved ones. Vote for JIM MARTIN for a better America, and a better World.
Don’t let Saxby Chambliss make a chump out of you by tricking you into voting against your own best interest. Saxby chambliss is NOT! on your side. He’s not one of you. He is on George Bush’s side. And we all know what a catastrophe the Bush Chambliss administration has been the past 8 years.
Contact all your family and friends and do every thing you can to see to it that JIM MARTIN and GEORGIANS! take that senate seat back for Georgia, and America. No matter where you live in America. This is important to you. President Obama will need all the help, and power you can give him to try and fix this catastrophic mess that the Corrupt Bush Chambliss administration has created.
As I said before you will have to vote in overwhelming numbers to overcome the Bush Chambliss “Let Them Eat Cake” vote fraud machine. Vote early if you can. Then help everyone you can get to the polls and vote for JIM MARTIN. You and your loved ones don’t have to be Saxby Chambliss’s victims anymore.
I know you will get it done. Just like you did for President Obama.
God bless all of you

Trampling the Constitution? Obama and the dems will attack more of our civil liberties by repealing the fairness doctrine in one minute than Bush did in eight years.
Did you read about the DEM in Ohio who used the state computers to raise money for the Dems and who launched illegal background checks to intimidate Joe the Plumber?
Why in the world would we be electing a filibuster proof Senate? Exactly what would that mean for Georgia?
How are the Dems doing on the freedom front… 1. Fairness Doctrine 2. Repeal secret ballots for certifying labor unions
He is not even sworn in yet. More, much more to come

I only hear Saxby talk about Martin’s plans to raise taxes, which I don’t believe. What is Saxby’s plan? Saxby hasn’t done jack so far and it seems the only reason folks say they are voting for him is because of the bogus fear that Democrats just want to raise taxes and are tax/spend so we need him as a firewall. Well, Republicans have PROVEN to be spend with no tax which equals debt. Which is worse?? I think the current state of the economy clearly shows that the course that we have been on which are steeped in Republican ideologies haven’t been working. Further, President-elect Obama has a huge job in front of him. He doesn’t need to be gridlocked. It is not about riding roughshod, it is about progress. Progress for EVERYONE. Just because Democrats won th majority of the elections doesn’t mean that Repulicans and/or Republican ideologies have to die off completely. I’m VERY fiscally conservative and I think the bail outs are ridiculous, but I also understand that we must do SOMETHING. We can all try to work together and we SHOULD be working together to heal America. If you think Saxby will actually help, then I can’t say don’t vote for him. But please don’t vote for him JUST for him to be a firewall.

Oh no! The Fairness Doctrine! Wait, the Fairness Doctrine has been repealed! The GOP did it! How would the Dems do that again?
You might mean they will try to institute it again? On no! Fox might then really have to be fair and balanced. All the Sunday talk shows might actually have to have an equal number of conservatives and liberals instead of 90% conservatives! We might actually get a few liberal commentators other than Olberman and Maddow! Oh Noes!

I dont think the African-American vote will turn out for Martin unless he has a good organization. I have not heard of any help coming to him from the Obama’s Georgia campaign.
And I am sure that Saxby will get his share of the redneck, uneducated, Rush-listening, racist crowd in places like Forsyth County.

If Americans, and Georgians, really want to see some real changes and not the usual grandstanding, then this truly is an important election. As the Republicans in Congress have basically stated their intent to use the filibuster to obstruct any substantive legislation—the kind of legislation that will bring the kind of changes Americans would like to see in health care, the environment, regulatory overhaul of Wall Street, and pension protection—then we need to have a Senator who actually sees his job as getting things done and not just acting as a ponderous wet blanket.

We have flat reached the lowest common denominator with respect to candidates! Has martin ever won anything? Did he, or did he not get removed from his Human Resources position?? And on the other side, has Chambliss ever had an original thought? This is pretty pathetic!

The Atlanta Press Club people work REALLY hard to pull off these debates. There is a lot of thought that goes into who the moderators and panelists will be, the time, etc.
The debate is a chance for each candidate to clearly define how he is different than the other candidate and what he plans to work to provide for the people of Georgia.
I think that both Senate candiates lost a tremendous opportunity to connect with the people of Georgia.

Georgians are sick and tired of Bush Republicans passing policy to destroy Georgia and America! Saxby will ALWAYS Support the Communist Chinese worker and Saxby will always Turn His Back on Georgia Middle Class workers!
The Flat Tax is so RIDICULUS and UNFAIR to the middle class, the only way it would be fair is if we have open disclosers on everyone’s SALARY/PAY at work! Then we’ll see how much everyone’s worth in the eyes of Corporate Executives!

If I remember correctly, Martin was removed based on assuming control of an Child agency that was understaffed and underfunded when a child fell through the cracks of the system and died. It was a political move for the state to save face more than a firing. He was not the only executive fired behind that situation. I think it’s kinda s** politics to use that situation as a means to say your a better canidate. Hell, when that happened, it could have been anyone!
For no other reason than the one above I will be voting Martin. Anyone that would lie about the situation and use the death of a child in this manner is not my kind of people.
If he’s used that against Martin what would he use if it were you. That was just foul!!!

Yes! I can’t wait for Socialism! Thanks for the inspiration jacksmith! I can’t wait for partial-birth abortions to be legal! Ever see one of those? Google it and see how it’s done. I am so excited that the govt. will be taking my 401K (that I have worked so hard for years to save)to make up for the Social Security the govt. has spent. Oh, and it’s great that illegal immigrants will be given that Social Security money- I don’t mind! And since only Republicans get great health care, I can’t wait to stand in line next to the Dem congressmen, senators & Obama for that surgery I so desperately need- but can’t get for 3 yrs because of our free nationalized healthcare. I am SO voting for Jim Martin.

I would say citizens, but he will be taking OUR hard earned money and giving to all of the deadbeats and illegal immigrants!!!! You would not believe how some of the population in Atlanta are already counting up how much more in welfare they will be able to claim now….Socialized medicine for everyone! Higher taxes for everyone(except the deadbeats)!! New inheritance taxes to strip away anything that one worked for with the intent of leaving it for your heirs!!!
Have you ever wondered why you don’t have very much liberal talk radio?? Liberal talk has to buy time on the airwaves and they can’t afford to keep it going. On the other hand, radio stations PAY to have the different conservative talk shows…Now why would that be??? The left leaning individuals tend to resort to personal attacks, ie backwards and redneck.

I guess all the Dems believe in no right to life. Had abortion been legal when Obama’s mom had been pregnant she might have had an abortion. This fact alone should make all the Dems pro life but it doesn’t. Saxby is pro life and that is more important than the economy which will heal itself if our capitalistic society is allowed to run it’s course. The war in Iraq and anywhere else there is terrorism is one of our necessary evils that the Dems want to run and hide from. Vote for Saxby!

Obama’s first four likely Cabinet choices, including former first lady Hillary Clinton, have a combined total of more than 60 years of Washington experience.
By comparison, President Bush’s first four Cabinet picks had a total of 30 years experience in Washington, and former President Clinton’s had 58.”
Yup cant wait to see ‘change’ the next four years will either elevate the democrat party to a higher lever or sink it to even lower levels esp. if they get the senate too and non-deliever like they have lately

Saxby and Johnny are leaders in the battle to secure America’s borders, we can’t afford more open border liberals like Martin. The Democrats have the White House, the House and Senate, the Nation needs to have some checks and balances, just like we’ve had the last 12 years where one party may have had control, but never a filibuster proof majority.
You Democrats have had a great run due to Bush 2 being both an idiot and stupid, you deserve a chance to see if a change is going to be better. Martin doesn’t deserve to represent GA, he doesn’t have the historical voting patterns that Georgians support. We can not increase Government spending enough to end a depression.

Regardless of whether or not Democrats get their 60 seats in the Senate, they will still be able to run roughshod over the USA that we have known. If they do not have the 60 votes, all the problems will be blamed on the Republicans. I believe that we might be better off giving Democrats full control, so that if the people do not like the results, a course correction can be made in 2 years.

Does he think that we are idiots? Who in their right mind would rehire a driver who helped drive a bus off a cliff with us in it. Only fools would. We Georgians are not fools. Saxby Go join your hero in Crawford, TX. We will vote for someone who wants to get us out of the ditch. We will not voe for you who wants to keep us in the ditch.

John:
Actually, the highest disapproval rating in the history of this nation belongs to the sitting Congress, not the sitting President.
Your comments would make more sense if you didn’t lie so blatantly…

Republicans are just mad that that the fear mongering tactics that they have used for so many years isn’t working anymore. The Lee Atwater doctrine that the republicans have used to spread fear, hate, and plain stupidity has back fired greatly. “Obama and the dems will spend out of their minds and make us socialist”. This is the new strategy they GOP has come up with. We have an administration that came up with the so called bailout for the greedy ceo’s. I am baffled though they don’t want to help the auto industry We have an administration that has a tax less but spend more policy. So freak out republicans you brought it on yourselves. I can’t wait for Palin 2012. I didn’t think it was possible to find someone less qualified than the lowest approval rated president we have now.

vote Chambliss. Make sure nothing gets done in Washington. Now there’s a platform of courage and wisdom.
I prefer the Obama approach to reality. Try new things. What we are doing is not working. And if we need to, we can change a bit more. We can adjust to feedback from reality. We dont have to run the country based on a book like Rove’s failed Middle East book. Or Greenspan’s failed economy book on markets.
VOTE MARTIN. Its the adult approach to reality.
