Georgia NAACP says Obama’s election has resulted in ‘acts of intimidation and retaliation’

The Georgia NAACP has scheduled a 3:30 p.m. press conference in downtown Atlanta today to discuss “acts of intimidation and retaliation” rising out of the election of President-elect Barack Obama.

According to a news release:

— African-American parents are reporting that their kids - from elementary to high school -are being verbally and physically harassed by their white classmates while their teachers turn the other way.

— Teachers and principals have told students that they cannot in any way discuss President-elect Obama and the election or they will face disciplinary action, even though prior to Nov. 4, teachers held regular class discussions on the upcoming election.

— At the workplace, employees are being ordered by their employers not to mention the name Obama or the election.

— One worker was told to move her car out of the company parking lot because she had an Obama bumper sticker on her vehicle.

— Both African-American students and employees are reporting that they’re receiving all kinds of slights, cold shoulders, and uncomfortable stares from their white classmates and colleagues.

Daryl Graham, spokesman for the state NAACP, said the press conference would feature an east Cobb County family whose daughter attends Walton High School. “The day after, there was a chill in the building,” Graham said.

By way of background, in a mock election, 549 students at Walton chose Obama by 53 percent.

This is a little ironic. At my daughter’s school, she is in the white minority. In an act of innocent indiscretion, she mentioned in conversation that her parents did not vote for Obama, and was herself the recipient of quasi-violent retaliation in the form of name-calling and book-slamming.

I know I read somewhere that this election wasn’t motivated by race. Hmmm…

These are pretty vague and general accusations….yawn. At which schools and businesses are these occurances allegedly happening???? Or is the NAACP just looking for a reason to prolong its existance? They’re obviously reaching here.

My husband and I are not black and we both voted for Obama. I am self-employed. My husband tells me that white coworkers have voiced no racist comments about Obama or other black people when in mixed company. However, during conversations where only whites are present, these coworkers use the N-word with considerable abandon.

He also tells me that one white coworker has refused to speak to him since the election. My husband made the “mistake” of telling everyone who he was voting for and why.

Therefore, none of this surprises me in the least. Rather, it inspires me to send the NAACP a little money.

The NAACP would not be needed if there was not discrimination in America and people were not so hateful. Let’s set the record straight on that. If I had a kid in school, I would confront any and every teacher and school that would deny my kid the right of speech. PERIOD! If necessary and need be, file suit.

Dear NAACP: How in the world do you think Obama got elected? Only by the African-American vote? Is it really the “white people” harassing? Or is it REPUBLICANS unhappy about the election. Any “losing” party would be unhappy about an election loss. Does this constitute racism? If you looked at the crowd at Obama’s victory speach, you would see MANY white people cheering. I am white and voted for Obama…yet you have now insulted me. “White people” is too broad to blame. Try “some republican voters.” How can you say there is racism because an African-American was elected president? HE GOT THE POPULAR VOTE!!!!!! FYI: Every race contributed to his victory, including “the white people.”

Yeah right and all of them are in advanced studies of Quantum Physics too. Other history class why would you be talking about Obama anyway? Well not even in history really, what has he done? You can probably trace all of the hesitancy on the parts of the schools back to that teacher in NC who berated that little girl whose dad was in the service because she said she liked McCain. NAACP needs to get over itself and quit looking for racism in everything from bubblegum to xylophones.

I’m sorry, but if i remember correctly Obama is only half black. Right? Oh wait, he’s been claimed by the black minority so there has to be racism because white people would never support such a candidate. And yet, it appears that he would not have had a chance of winning without the white vote. Its ironic.

Jeeze, y’all. I think that might be why they’re having a press conference…this afternoon…to make the allegations AND to supply facts.

As an Atlantan, I’m embarrassed that this is how the reaction plays out. Instead of worrying about the issue, some folks immediately suspect and dump on the NAACP.

If your kids—or their teachers—are doing any of this stuff—ANY of this stuff, YOU need to stand up and say it’s just wrong.

We need to get past this kind of hate. I think that’s what the President-elect is trying to help us do. Does he get that chance?

One more generation to go and this will be an isolated event. Or are we still in the south and this will continue until the distructuction of man. In the South a man half white and half black as President just doesn’t sit well. When will the south catch up with main stream America. Black and White are to blame. The NAACP still has it’s place in the south and needs to look into black racism as it does white racism to help heal this part of the counrty.

Are they going to address the African-Americans who surrounded a White girl and screamed at her all the way to her class, because she was a McCain supporter, and the Administration ignored that too? I’m sure stupid people on both sides are doing stupid things. This reminds me of the splinter and beam parable Jesus spoke about. or how about “Doctor heal thyself” then come and talk to others about their problems. This kind of stuff will not help. Only make matters worse, which I suspect is what they want. It keeps them in business.

I was in grad school at Emory in 1988 when the first Bush was elected. In that setting I of course was harassed for my Republicanism. I didn’t whine, I took solace in the fact that we won. The truth is we don’t have to LIKE how the election turned it even though we have to accept it. We don’t have to dance in the streets and be excited because of the Obama victory. I personally believe that we are heading down a dangerous path in a history. This is America. We have the right and the freedom to criticize leaders and those who elected them.

The Democrats need to remember, 46% of the country did not support your guy and in Georgia we wanted someone else. Yes, many are angry because of an elective process that was not a level playing feel because of the intense media bias that was reflected in the way the campaign was reported and conducted. The truth is there is no truth told in the media these days only distortions of the truth.

In my opinion, the Republicans really defeated themselves. They self-destructed because of an unpopular war and an economic crash. They were their own worst enemies, like Richard Nixon was during Watergate. It’s amazing that they managed 46% of the vote under these circumstances—and if they had run someone more conservative than McCain they probably would have gotten less. They were also trying to run against a reform wave of the type that comes once every 30-40 years in America—and the last one was in the 1960s. If Obama continues to ride this wave for change and reform, he’ll be remembered in history as one of the truly great presidents.

I think we all need to look at the real issue here. The problem is that there are some people whom are not satisfied with the man whom is picked as our next president. Some have a issue with his skin, and some have a issue with his youth, some say he is inexperienced. I have lived in the south all my life and I suspect here with some individuals, the ideal of a black/white man is unacceptable, just unacceptable and I have seen first hand some of the faces of angry because Obama was elected. Some you just don’t want to admit it but there are individuals whom are still seeing things from a racist view. I personally feel ashame of the southern cities, because this election has just shown how some people just won’t let go of the past, some still fly their conferdrate flags in hopes that the past would be rekindled instead of looking to the furture of postive change. The NAACP needs to continue to fight for the rights of all minority groups, which is it’s origin purpose because even though this election shows the promise of things possible if all mankind work together, we still have a long way to go; judicial justice and equality etc…. Oh by the way the NAACP fought and is still fighting for the rights of all minorities for many different things. So this organization is not just needed now, but for the future unfairness that still exist in our country. A lot of black people acknowlege the fact that all colored people came together as Americans in the election and not as colors and chose the man we feel could do the job and not give us the same ideals as the present administration has. May God bless all of you on this blog.

It is really a sad day when grown human beings cannot realize what is going on here. We all know what is going on, some of us just like to pretend and place blame on the NAACP and whomever else may support this family. Switch the tables here. What if a purple President won and your child, teacher, principal whomever wanted to discuss, point is, schools are for learning, and if we “all” cannot speak, especially on a topic such as the one of the President, what is our country coming to? For those who don’t like being anywhere near fair, I say, go find you a checkboard island and stay there!

I graduated from Walton High School and I find this completely rediculous. I had a good number of black friends and knowing the atmosphere of that school, I find it hard to believe racial tension of any significance. That school is in a concervative district and I am sure there were some disappointed students, but to think they would take any frustration out on black students seems very unlikely to me.

I recieved most of my primary education from schools in South Atlanta, and recalling how I was treated for being a white kid in a mostly black school, I can only imagine what would have happened to me if I were to show up at those schools wearing a McCain/Palin shirt. I wonder if the same dedication would be put forth by the NAACP to expose a situation like that.

Excuse me. I DO have the right to DISAGREE with who was elected President of this country. It’s called Freedom of Speech. I was harassed non-stop for voting for George W.’s 2nd term by blacks and whites both. I have stood by and watched Hollywood & the rest of the left make fun of every non-liberal candidate in history, so my inclination is to say to them “get over it”, He won the election. It would be nice if we could just forget about race and concentrate on the economy. We need to work together to make this work. It doesn’t matter what color you skin is, we are all affected by this lousy economy that we currently have. Also, why does it matter if the president is black or white. NO one had an issue for the last 300 or so years with a white president. America is so behind time. That is why other countries have no respect for us.

I don’t think this is a black-white thing. I’m white and a Democrat, and my Republican co-workers and neighbors are being sore losers. Most Republicans are jerks who only care about preserving their own wealth, so don’t expect them to be nice. And the Republicans who aren’t rich are just misguided souls who vote based solely on their religious beliefs.

As a sidenote, I did get the feeling that my son’s school was pushing McCain on the children, in hopes, I guess, that they would bring the message home to their parents.

I am reading a lot of people post how southern cities are racist because they didn’t vote to elect Obama. Could it be that in the south we have a large population of blacks? That they run governments such as Atlanta, Lithonia and Clayton County. That we have seen the worst of what could happen and voters are voting based on what they witness here? In Vermont or Montana, they do not have that example as they do not have many blacks much less running whole city governments. Obama was judged solely on what they saw/heard/read, not the example of 3 failed local governments?

I did not vote for Obama, not because he is black, not because of the above mentioned examples, but because I read and studied and at the end of the day did not believe him to be the best candidate. Now that he has been elected, I will support his Presidency, as I have others before him. I hope for the sake of our country, he does a better job that we have witnessed down here in the south.

I also hope people will begin to consider that there are other reasons besides the ugly racists reasons not to have voted for Obama.

Those of you judging all southerners as blind hillbilly racists (because we know there are some, the media found them and put them on prime time news), are no different than my judging Obama on the merits of a ghetto thug.

The principal at Norcross High School told all teachers not to discuss the election the day after; however, my son reported that several teachers expressed their disappointment at the outcome. The principal then announced his decision at our PTSA meeting with the explanation that any discussions were a “distraction” to the educational process. Wonder why it could not have been looked at as an education opportunity to learn more about the election process than a distraction. Very narrow-minded thinking in my opinion.

There should be clarity from the school ( a debate) as to what made up the winning votes….. Young kids may think it was only the African Americans whose vote for Obama made him win. It’s up to the parents to squash, the hatred among the young.

And yes the NAACP should be involved. There speaking on the nation’s problems of understanding change and acceptance. Just because you haven’t heard from them in a while does not mean they don’t keep abreast of problem facing the African American community.

It’s a proud moment for everyone; yes especially the African American community. Do you really want a race riot in 2009?

Does the NAACP really have nothing better to do than to continue to blame the “white people” for everything. They leave out the fact that african americans are ten times more racist towards “white people” than the “white people” towards african americans. I don’t know if they have noticed, but the president-elect is black. Leave it to them to still somehow find a way to turn that into some sort of racism. Can you even imagine what would have happened if Mccain would have won? We would be the most racist country in the world according to the NAACP. No matter what happens, whether it be a “white person” gets a job over an african american or something of the sort, they immediatley throw out the race card no matter what, even if the “white person” is more qualified. DEN, why dont you just flush your money down the toilet, that would be more use of your money.

The NAACP needs to stop using the race card every time they open their collective mouths. It’s a tiresome diatribe that has a similar pattern to a seven year old’s explanation why something broke.

To katie: racism is not a Southern thing. It’s in Chicago, NYC, Seattle and anywhere else where there are people.

I was for McCain and I haven’t heard a peep from anyone I work with as far as “gloating” or “sore losing” depending on which side you were on. Everyone has been quite civil. Those accusations are very vague, I think the NAACP is trying to remain relevant because one of their planks they could stand on is that “a black man can’t be President” and now that has happened. It weakens them a good bit.

I hope the NAACP realizes that racism goes both ways. I am treated terribly by the African American checkout ladies at our local Walmart. They refuse to speak to me or even look at me many times. When I walk up and say “hi” I am ignored. When they hand me the receipt they look the other way and don’t acknowledge my “Thank you” to them. I noticed the other day after being treated that way that the same lady at the check out started chatting it up with an African American couple that checked out after me. Even so… I will continue to be kind because I have never understood how people on either side can treat someone badly based soley on the color of their skin.

It isn’t a black/ white thing it is a Democrat/Republican thing. Please take a moment and think about it. It took the white vote as well as the black vote to get Obama elected. The black could not have done it alone. 52% of American voters favored Obama over the 47% who thought that McCain was the better choice.

The thing is…we need to stop influencing our children with this racial disgust. If we could all just look at each other INSIDE of our skin. The world will be a better place. If the tables were turned, we would not be hearing this.

As black Americans we all need to stop placing blame and looking for reasons to call “RACISM.” When you look at the clear picture you will find that the “RACIST” is the one who is out there searching for it.

I believe all of this is happening because it happened to me for about 2-3 days straight after the election.

I’m an adult working in the aerospace defense industry and literally got cold stares and people standing outside of my cubicle talking about the election speaking loudly so that I could hear them. I even had a couple come into my cubicle to discuss the election, basically attacking ME as if I were President-Elect Obama. Only after quite nastily having to put my hand up, saying stop and telling them that I didn’t want to hear it is when it stopped.

So yes, it IS happening. Thank you NAACP for stepping up to the plate. These armchair quarterback posters don’t know what the crap they’re talking about.

The NAACP has to find new and imaginative ways to keep itself in business. Had Obama lost that would have been there reason for complaining, now that he won they must come up with something new to keep themselves occupied! Then there is the left wing affluent Bob, a few posts above mine, he assumes that if you voted for the republican ticket you are of low intelligence. Got news for you Bob you sir are as bad as the NAACP for stirring up a mess by calling republicans stupid. Obama won thats it we can all expect higher taxes and bigger government, and he wants to give everyone free college. We republicans have our work cut out for us in 4 years. By the way NAACP the future presidents mom was a white woman, since your organization along with the media like to bring race into this election when the republicans never did!

Dude is not African American also like most black people in this country. You can only be African if you are from Africa, which is the true minority. If you are from the US you are Black. I agree with Non-Partisan Voter and Chris. My children go to a school that’s 37% white. Many of my white friends’ children stayed out of school the Wednesday following because of threatened violence against them. My son personally stayed out of it and was left alone, but those who dared voice their support for McCain were definitely targeted.

There were also several local elections in my county where white candidates with more than double the experience and education were almost defeated by complete newcomers with little to no experience and far inferior education levels. So I am really, really tired of hearing about so-called white racism. Who will champion the white public servants who will end up losing their careers because of racist black voters who judge on color rather than qualifications?

The hardest thing is to prove racism, even if it exists because people always deny it. However, I guarantee not many of you people on this blog can deny that you did not send/receive a race related text once Obama was elected. Even professional athletes were bothered by messages they were receiving. That’s why Brandon Marshall (The Denver Broncos) wide receiver wanted to make a statement nationally, but refrained because it would have hurt the team. Even whites (Who aren’t afraid to be honest) have admitted it, so why would you all think these incidents didn’t take place?

96% of all blacks voted for Obama, who most white southerners feel is a Marxist/Socialist. If blacks don’t want to be ostracized they should vote based upon fact and not skin color. I’ve heard from many whites - people who don’t have a racist bone in their bodies - that when they see a black person in public they now see skin color where they didn’t before because they know the odds are that person voted for Obama… a man they detest.

Ladies and gentlemen - we have reached a crossroads in this country where the content of ones character is less important than the color of their skin. For a while it looked as if we were moving in the right direction, the 80s and 90s allowed us a time of peace and harmony between the races. Alas, the time has come where people on both sides have bucked up and put on their fighting faces because they won or lost an election.

Why just today, a poster on this blog accused me of being greedy because, gasp! I want to keep my own money. Since when is keeping what you earn considered greedy. Greedy would be when one races to the free table and grabs up as much as one can, limiting availability to others.

I encourage each of you to keep your political council with friends and family in social settings. Work and school are not a place to raise the topics of politics, religion or sex, except for in the most educational of contexts. There are many Presidential elections that can be discussed in the school environment for the purposes of education. The fact that the adults are emotionally excited over this race shows you that it is too volatile to be discussed in the classroom.

Now, as your mama or maybe grandmama said, if you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all. This should not infringe on anyone’s right to free speech if you phrase your opinion nicely.

Have a great day!

If we had a college fund that only gave white students scholarships…You know we’d be racists.

There are over 60 openly proclaimed Black Colleges in the US . Yet if there were ‘White colleges’ That would be a racist college.

In the Million Man March, you believed that you were marchingmfor your race and rights.

If we marched for our race and rights, you would call us racists.

You are proud to be black, brown, yellow and orange, and you’re not afraid to announce it.

I am proud… But you call me a racist.

Why is it that only whites can be racists??

LAZ, are you kidding with your definition of a Republican, this is part of the problem. It’s ok for you to stereotype people based on their political affiliations, as long as they are not Democrats. If you say something about the current President Elect, then you are a racist, and the NAACP comes to their defense. We are all in this together, and we all have a right to our opinion. I did not vote for O’Bama, but when he is sworn I will show him more respect as our President than the Democrats have shown President Bush. That is the way I was brought up, to respect the office of the President no matter who is in it, because I am an American and that is my President. I am a person and when I fill someone is treating me or a member of my family unfairly I stand up for myself, I don’t rely on some organization to do it for me.

Hey Patman,

Did you know that the ‘children’s survey’ of each presidential election is consider more accurate because many times people will say something to a pollster that they don’t say in the privacy of their own home, and that children reflect their parent’s views?

So maybe your children were reflecting your views. And maybe your complaining about the NAACP not doing anything about it might be reflecting in what THEY say.

After all the fawning over Bill Clinton as the so called first black president and kissing Hillary’s but for years, you cut her throat for a man you knew nothing about because he was black (or at least perceived to be). Right here in Atlanta John Lewis was threatened and intimidated by the very people he ad served for years because how dare he support a white woman. If Obama had been white and stood for the same things he does, he would have never been your nominee. The majority of the black vote would have gone to Hillary.

96% plus black vote for Obama? You tell me who the racists really are? Ask John Lewis, Hillary Clinton and Bill.

The Jimmy Kimmel Show had Young Jeezy perform and his whole band was wearing t-shirts that said “My President Is Black”. We all know he is actually mulato/mixed race. I guess that isn’t an issue for the NAACP, but isn’t the name NAACP somewhat racist in itself? Shouldn’t they join the rest of us & stick up for all people who have had to deal with racism? “Colored People” are no longer the only minority.

I urge everyone to support their country, our troops & our president. No matter who that person may be.

I agree. The NAACP’s days are numbered. Give me a break, they can’t find anything to do. Maybe they should just start representing anybody with an injustice rather than just the blacks. Times are a changin’ and the NAACP needs to change too.

Are you thugs ever happy? All I hear ever are blacks complaining about everything! This country caters to blacks. You thugs have it made. If the racist NAACP wants “equality” why do they never stand up for blacks? I saw a report that there are not enough black coaches in college football. How about a report on white players in the NBA? There are not more black coaches because black leadership is terrible. Just look at Atlanta. Plus, what would the NAACP do if we had WHITE TV, a WHITE Miss America, WHITE only colleges, etc. People are mad about Obama because black leadership SUCKS.

My daughter is white and is in a predominately black school. There were discussions of the election before election day.

When she indicated that her parents were going to vote for McCain and why, she was told she could not sit with her best friend (who happens to be black) and had to sit across the room.

I’m proud to say she refused and sat with her friend anyway.

Politics is an emotional button and emotions can go both ways.

I can understand why some schools and business would want to discourage discussions one way or the other because it can cause people to become upset if they happen to believe the opposite way or side.

This leads to less team work and more strife whether in the workplace or school.

I think the NAACP should approach it from itimidation from both sides not just one or better yet the election is over and lets move on together as a nation but differences aside and start working on how to best fix the economy etc.

Thanks independent voter

Here we go, now that a black man has ascended to the highest position in the world, the folks who make their living inciting racial divisiviness, are now scrambling to explain that this is only a stepping stone. If you step back and look at it objectively it is clear that this country is arguably the most fair and unbiased country in the world. What other country of significance has had a minority candidate ascend to its highest office?? For that matter see if you can even find one that has even made a serious run. GIVE ME A BREAK!!!!1/4 of the people who voted in this election have never voted or got involved in an election/politics before. They had no idea what EITHER of the candidates stood for. They have no idea how the process works. They were rolling on emotion and emotion alone. It was about race for most of them both black and white.
I don’t know if Obama will do a good job or not. I hope for the sake of this country that he will do a great job. But for everyone to put their head in the sand and pretend that this was an election basis on platform is just silly to me. I’m still not convinenced that there was not voter fraud that actually tipped the scales. There were reports that investigations were being done on ACORN. Where are the results of these investigations? Was there voter fraud? Was this a fair elections? Let’s face it..If Obama has lost the election there would have been an uproar. Thanks to the NAACP for pointing this out. It is true that whites at large were very despondent the next day. It was like an onset of buyer’s remorse. They got all hyper joining on the bandwagon to support Obama, then they went into shock and fear the next day (probably wondering if people of color were going to demand reparations or something. Gee… I thought this might go the other way…

The day after the election my daughter (Caucasian)got on the Marta train to ride into GSU. She felt “intimidated” when a man yelled out, “How about that victory last night?” Everyone cheered. He then added, “It’s about time we got some of that stuff you rich white college kids got and spread it around.” Again, everyone cheered.

Or two days after the election when at my daughter’s middle school many children were lined up to get water bottles after a walk-a-thon. Several African-American students broke to the front of the line yelling, “Obama is president now. The new rule is blacks go to the front.”

In both instances I felt bad for my children, but I tried to explain things as best as I could. Bigotry goes both ways and won’t be stopped until that is realized. I hope the NAACP knows that.

My boss didn’t speak to anyone the day after the election and not because she is in any way racist. She is Republican and wanted her man to win. I would have felt the exact same way that she felt. And one more thing. I’m sick and tired of hearing that all Republicans are racist because they are not. Is JC Watts, Condy Rice, or Colin Powell racist? (We’ll leave Clancy Thomas out of the discussion because I don’t believe he knows who he is). I’m also sick and tired of Blacks who are Republicans being minimized. Everyone has a reason for voting for whomever they d**n well please and it’s their business. No one should have to defend their choices and all of us need to knock it off.

The NAACP is not telling you about all the harassment white kids in schools are having to put up with from black kids after the election. Then look at the violent crime rate inside the black community here in Atlanta area. I think the NAACP needs to clean their own house before passing judgment on whites. Ask yourself one question? Who is killing the large number of blacks around metro Atlanta ? Its other blacks not whites. Knock Knock NAACP you need to worry about what your own black people are doing before pointing a finger at any other groups. Interesting , 86% of whites that have been murdered in the United States in the last 30 years have been murdered by blacks. Look it upon the Federal Bureau of Statistics web page. It any body has a compliant its the whites in the United States not the NAACP or blacks in the US.

This entire issue is pretty rediculous. Is the NAACP so naive as to think that African-Americans elected Obama? If EVERY minority in the country that is registered to vote voted for Obama, he could not have won the election without the votes of non-minority voters.

White America elected Obama proving once and for all that the NAACP has outlived its usefulness!!! It doesn’t matter to them that President-elect Obama made it without affirmative action quotas to get him through. The man does though probably have more in common with all former Presidents than he does with the average African-American. For one, he is a man like the 43 Presidents before him. He is a lifelong Politician, an Ivy League graduate, an Attorney, his Mom is caucasian, he has a $1.32 million home-loan, he lives in a predominately white neighborhood, he made $4.2 Million dollars last year. Yep, he’s just “one of us guys” — NOT.

In any event, I believe the NAACP is trolling for problems and looking for ones that don’t exist. Lke the McCain supporter that faked being “branded” by Obama supporters, the NAACP is looking for problems now that finally we have elected a Black President and that “problem” has gone by the boards, they need a new one to complain about!

Are you kidding me? What is going on with the NAACP? Nobama’s rise should be used an impetus by black leaders to motivate blacks to pull themselves out of a mental funk. However, it is so sad to see that the NAACP won’t to engage in seeking nobility from self-inflcited wounds. This is the sad and skewed interpretation of W.E.B. du Bois “Attack attack attack” mantra. This is completely different from the self-reliance principles of another great thinker, Booker T Washington. If black elites continute to preach hatred and intolerance of other ethnicities (to maintain their own sense of relevance in the black community), it would be a sad travesty of President-elect Nobama’s ascendancy to the post of the most powerful person in the world. They should desist from the toxic attitude of divisiveness.

The NAACP complaining is a classic example of why the south voted for McCain. As the main section of the country with a large black population, southern whites see first hand the crime, welfare, irresponsibility, and overall way of the black race and thus it effects perceptions (and votes). I think the OH, PA, MI people need to spend time down here to see that dynamic first hand.

In the office where I work, it was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. I imagine all of the rethuglicans were sitting at work, white hot mad about losing the election.

Then, last Friday, the ignorance seethed to the surface and the office rethuglicans began making their nasty comments about the new president, to which I replied, “If you don’t like it then get your passport and leave”.

It would be one thing if everyone could co-exist peacefully. This election has proved otherwise, though. Even though Anerica as a whole has progressed, the backwoods rednecks down here still have a long way to go.

Lynn…..How sad to “hate” any group of people. You must carry around great anger and bitterness. I feel for you.

I am an Independent and vote for a person’s character and platform. To vote for a person because they affiliate with a certain party seems so narrow-minded and strange to me….but I don’t “hate” party loyalists.

Recently the London Times ranked the American presidents from best to worst. Four Republicans made the top 10. They were Lincoln (#1), Teddy Roosevelt (#5) Eisenhower (#6), and Reagan (#8).

Perhaps you don’t give a hill of beans about what the London Times thinks, but you should definitely read more and study your history.

Very good job Outhosed.

Since you’re doing ‘what you’re told’ go and tell all of your Republican friends that you were wrong to be a Republican and a retarted self deluded liar.

Of course, since you actually believe the exact opposite of everything you said, that pretty much makes you a moron doesn’t it?

Let’s take it point by point, shall we?

I shall follow the example of the liberal and mainstream media.

You mean the ones that didn’t say anything against Bush the Antichrist until Hurricane Katrina while he LITERALLY ate cake and watched the city burn?

I shall say whatever I want to about President Bush, and he shall be blamed for EVERYTHING, no matter what the facts are.

I shall, in fact, say whatever I want to about President Bush and he SHALL be called the Anti Christ because I understand facts unlike your ‘zecrit muzzim’ viral emails from your friends who eat Squirrel for breakfast.

I shall not express ANY criticism of President elect Obama, no matter what the facts are.

When your facts are total phukcing lies then you bet I won’t take them seriously.

But criticizing Obama is just fine.

‘Obama is a spineless coward for voting for the FISA capitulation act’…there, see? Easy.

I shall not express ANY criticizsm of any supporter of President elect Obama.

Coward.

If I was or am a supporter of anyone who opposed or opposes the President elect I shall be labeled as an idiot and shall not express any opinion which is not in agreement with President elect Obama or his obviously superior supporters.

You are an idiot and please express your opinion early and often so I can call you an idiot again.

It amazes me how many people of the majority quickly grow bored with racism, when they in fact are disproportionately affected by it. Simply electing a black man, (yes, black man because it was established that any person having 1/8% negro blood is in fact black)to be president of the United States does not eradicate racism. We can easily refer to last week end’s deal in Louisiana witht he Klan killing. Racism is not dead, but alive and thriving as well. I do however agree that you should be able to vote for whomever you chhose without harassment.

Everyone should take a step back and listen to what is going on here. Everyone is feeling it on both sides and there should be some sensitivity shown on both sides. The best way to move on is for everyone to keep there thought and feelings to themselves and respect each others choice. Because the bottom line is when in Rome you have to do as the Romans do. The Bible tells us that we must pay unto Ceasar what is do unto Ceasar Rom 13:1-8 is a good read. So everyone on both sides need to show some respect and accept what has happened in this country. This country is ready for a change and it must begin with us!!!!!!

Intially when i spoke of voting for Obama my nieghbors thought i was crazy thinking about putting a terrorist into the office. That he was a member of sleeper cell. Then it came down to how could i be so stupid to vote for a ngger. Fortunately these folks now are part of the minority in this counrty with their backwards and racist thinking. Thats what has them so p** off right now. I have heard it from people that i thought were my friends, how i let america down voting for a ngger. Racism exists in every color in this country. The idea is to get it out of the main stream. Older black people are better at hiding their dislike for whites because they had to do so. We would all be better off to learn a lesson from them. If your redneck neighbors call Obama a n*gger, then either tell them not to, or walk away. If a black lady looked me in the eye as I was holding a door open for her and told me to get used to it, I’d let the door go. No biggie either way. Showing intolerance for bad behavior is acceptable here.

And for dear, “that’s what I’m talkin about”…the “klan” killed a white woman last weekend, no racism there. I assume they did so because this small group of idiots (dead woman included) probably has a combined IQ of 12. Stupid people are everywhere, klan, black panthers, all of them. Don’t tolerate them in your presence and ignore them otherwise. If some brainiac in the media hadn’t played up the klan angle on the LA story, it would be just another group of yahoos thinning the herd. We’d all be better off without the publicity.

I’m sure none of those old white ladies that were voting at that church were intimidated. The NAACP is a joke. Speaking of jokes, affirmative action can end now too right. A black man from a poor broken family gets an Ivy League education becomes state Senator and then U.S. Senator and now President with no help from Affirmative Action. There is no argument that can be made for affirmative action to remain in place.

We’re suppossed to believe that blacks are being harrassed by whites because the NAACP says so? What a f**king joke.

Just look at the statistics on black on white crime, compared to white on black crime.

Blacks are uneducated animals who have NEVER been able to lift themselves up by their bootstraps (because they are so f**king LAZY) and be successful, but they will ALWAYS point the finger and blame everyone else (whites) for their failures.

Black people will LIE and say ANYTHING (remember Crystal Mangum, the lying n*gger who falsely accused three white Duke students of raping her) to get a little “face time” with our bleeding heart liberal media.

I mean thru lying, stealing and cheating we just put an ape into the Oval office.

I’m a person “of color” and I didn’t vote for Obama. McCain would have gotten my vote if he didn’t put an air brain on the ticket.

There are not enough brown-skinned people to put Obama in office. 60% of white people wanted Obama and that’s what they got.

SO LIVE WITH IT!

Hahaha, the NAACP is a bunch on morons. You never get specific, verifiable information, just the typical he said/ she said crap that can’t be tracked down. Can you imagine, some blacks got the cold shoulder and stares? How terrible! And they can confirm it was because Obama won. Prior to that everyone was sitting around singing Kumbaya.. Yeah right..

The situation at hand should have been classified under NO BULLYING at schools and acted immediately upon by teachers/principals to cease and desist such actions. Workers at jobs are to be rated according to what you already have known about each prior to this political campaign. I voted for McCain but plan to support OBama as our President and hope that others will rise to the call as well. It starts in our homes, our jobs and our interactions within our communities to rebuild America. Obama (nor would have McCain) does not carry a magic wand. One would hope our President will inspire us with his words and his actions and his genuineness to what he has promised to do for Americans as a whole to help each of us regain a sense of community and loyalty to the American Dream and the American pride of all of our people. Race — can be played either way and I have seen it against me and I am white. Bullying is played at any age, any race, any place as all the posts show. Most of you have seem to have lessened the degree of bullying by any of your comments but sealed the image that people will argue with others different than themselves over any and all things regardless of race/sex/background. Growing up is what we all need to work on doing! Being responsible and being held accountable to our own standards is the first step in erasing our own individual stupidity — no race is targeted by my comments. We have issues that we each need to address and stop pointing fingers and stop looking for scapegoats.

I would love to see the factual basis for all the NAACP’s allegations listed above. The vagueness of some of these raises my suspicions about how truthful they might be. This sounds suspiciously like “playing the victim”—and I have very little patience with that.

I really hate getting into race-baiting/race card discussions, but I would like to touch on two of the alledged incidents that were mentioned.

In one instance, employers were telling workers that they could not mention Obama or the election shortly after the event. I have been in corporate environments for many years and I have never once seen this occur in prior elections. I don’t recall hearing about employers stating that you couldn’t mention Clinton, Bush, or the ‘96, ‘00, or ‘04 elections. Why the sudden change of heart and/or uneasiness? Just about everyone I knew ended up in discussions in their workplaces about the Bush/Gore election in the days after Bush “won” Florida, so I don’t see why talking about politics or current events would suddenly be frowned upon. The perceived answer for this sudden change of heart could be why the NAACP was alerted.

Another instance detailed that a worker was told to park in another parking lot because she had an Obama sticker on her vehicle. Unless there is a company policy that states that you cannot adorn your personal vehicle with any political slogans or campaign materials, that was indeed an improper action.

Some things may be subjective to some, but sometimes people call like as they see them. I am an African-American and I am one of the last people to cry “racism” when something happens. However, even if something is not “racist” to some it could indeed be improper or even unlawful depending on the circumstances.

In the case of the person who had to move their vehicle because of the Obama sticker, I would have in turn asked my employer to have any other employee who has a similar sticker (regardless of the candidate) move their vehicles as well. If the Obama car needed to be moved, then all of the cars with John McCain, Saxby Chambliss, Jim Martin, Bob Barr, George W. Bush, Sonny Perdue, etc. stickers should have been moved as well.

Do you remember that one time that Blacks made up only 13% of the total population of the United States? Oh it was now. Hispanics, which I am, makes up the same percentage. Should we prorate based on these percentages to everything? I read a story yesterday about the Black Coaches Hiring Caucus or something along those lines complaining that not enough black coaches were hired last year in College football. The stats were that 31 jobs were available and 4 blacks were hired… 12.9%. That was very interesting to me. If we take the top line stats and assume that of the roughly 60 million votes Obama got, 22.62 million of them were attributable to blacks that could vote(13% of 300 million at 60% eligible to vote and adjusted for the 2% of blacks that voted for McCain), and that’s if all eligible blacks voted, the majority of votes that Obama received had to come from somewhere other than the black race. So if a majority basis can support a minority candidate does that mean that there is still a majority problem with a racist or stereotypical situation in the US? Can all problems be eradicated to the point of extinction? Situations have gotten much better over the last 40 years, but you cannot preach “Hate Whitey” because they are the reason that a minority was accepted. Instead education is the key; of which, you cannot do if you spend all day talking about a new president. I fail to see how the human genome, or the quadradic equation, or the Theory of Relativity have to do with the election of a new president. I am sure that the election and its processes and ramifications were covered in the political science class that is required, but unless it is that class or a debate class, a knowledge of literature, the sciences, or math are what are going to change the young people’s future, not a discussion on who won the election. Focus on learning and less on gloating. I think we all know what it means, and we should be proud to have lived in such a diverse and open time, but don’t lose focus on the future and yourself and how you may contribute to the world.

I was told by my white boss the day after the election that I needed to take the McCain stickers off my car because I needed to be sensitive to the fact that I work in a building that is 85% black. Having stickers on my car showed a lack of judgment that could jeopardize my chances for promotion.

I am not at all racist, but obviously someone complained about it. I am the one who felt singled out and all I can say is that it cuts both ways, NAACP. GET OVER IT.

Will the NAACP receive some of the $700B? Everyone else seems to have their hands out….

Just look at Atlanta, Detroit, Philadelphia and Los Angles, all cities run into the ground by minorities, who want “free” money with no “oversite” on how to spend it.

You idiots are the ones who voted these people in and and they are the ones “stealing” your money..

I’m not buying for one minute NAACP claims. And I’m witnessing first-hand just the opposite: the night of Obama’s win, gunshots nearby to ‘celebrate’? ; last weekend, minority neighborhood thugs with guns have shotout; last weekend, car full of minority thugs chase a white neighbor and motion as if pulling out a gun. I actually fear that crime will increase, and will become more intense. I hope I’m wrong.

The Georgia NAACP, are trouble makers, who enjoy the causing problems. That’s how they get their money, they spread hate, and separation, of the races. They will always keep causing trouble, no matter what changes take place, with Obama as president. The NAACP is a dinosaur, that is no longer need, they should be working to keep black kids in school and stay out of jail, and stay away from drugs, get an education, and respect people. no matter what race they are, teach the parents, on how to keep their kids in school, and when you go on welfare, when you are health to get a job, you will not receive the repeat you want. There are a lot of smart black kids, who hate school and think it’s a waste of time, when, everything will be free. This is an elusion, there nothing free in this world even if stolen, you will pay one way or another. The NAACP, and the Black panthers, hate whites, along with every other minorities, they would love a race war, a war no one will win. The people in this country, have put up with all the crying crap these two organization do, making a good living from all the donation, that is given to them, hopefully all the hate money they get will come to an end. They don’t contribute to a better America. They advocate raids, sit-ins and everything else to disrupt the life’s of this country. The NAACP, again should spend more time on telling the Black kids to stay in school and get an education, to have a productive life, not the welfare life, these organization preach.

The NAACP is outdated and needs to lay to rest their demands for a equal draw. They have it with the election of Obama. This group is the hate mongers of all and are out to destroy the fibers that make this country great. Any group that has to rely on Sharpton or Jackson is in need of new voices. There is Black this Black that. If only there was a White this would there be a uproar. I am screwed by the affirmative action agendas of our political idiots.

On Q100 last week, both parents and teachers call into the morning radio show and confirmed the facts that students had been suspended for talking about the election in class and in the hallway in Paulding and Cherokee County. A teacher from Gwinnett called in and confirmed they were instructed to not talk about the election and Obama in class. And this is America? Where you can’t talk about the President elect Barack Obama? I can’t help but think that things would be different if it were President Elect McCain. While there may be less racists and bigots then there were 50 years ago, there are still plenty of racist and bigots even today. Although we just elected our first African American President a little over a week ago, racism is still alive and well here in Georgia and people need to stop pretending that it doesn’t still exist, just like ageism and sexism.

We surely do need the NAACP, which (contrary to what many here seem to think) was founded by WHITE AND BLACK PEOPLE IN NYC IN 1909. It wasn’t founded because people of color were getting a fair shake in this country—quite the opposite!

To all of you cry baby redneck GA hillbillies. I am white 54 male, live in GA and I voted for Obama because he was the better choice. I work with your kind and you can all kiss my a. Blacks make up aprox 17% of the total population so that means that a lot of “others” voted for Obama too. Why? because the Republican party is a party of hate, lies and raciest. The American people put Obama into office because we are all tired of racism. As a nation we should be soooo far beyond this, but leave it to the party of fear mongering to stir up cra. And leave it to ignorant hillbillies to take up the torch. What’s that? Ooooh did the scary black man win the election and become president? What a bunch of pathetic whiners. I say that Obama will be the best thing that has happened to this country in a long, long time. First, if he does a good job and when his term is over, a holes like you rednecks will be able to relax and breath again. The presidency should be attainable to “Any American who is Qualified” not just to a bunch of creepy old white elitists who think they have a right to the office. At last , we will now have a man in office who gives a d* about the Average Joe American. America belongs to us the people not a bunch of corporate a** wipes. Listen up you morons, Obama talked a lot about helping the middle class. Now I wonder why that was. No answers? Well maybe if you had pulled your heads out of that bag of fried pork skins and payed attention in school you would know that #1 America equals 40 % of the world economy and #2 middle class spending makes up 70% of the US economy. So, you red neck dummy’s, that means that if the middle class has jobs and money to spend our economy thrives and everyone does well. But I wouldn’t expect some one who has to remove their shoes to cipher out out how many bottles of beer make up a case to understand such simple economics like that. And by the way there are 24 bottles of beer in a case. not 12. To all of the blacks in GA I want to say that the rest of the nation accepts you as Americans and brothers. Please don’t judge us by the poor excuse for Americans that you may encounter locally. Obama is a brilliant man and I believe he will make us all proud. But he will have a tough row to hoe as he is taking over a mega mess created by these same hate and fear mongers that give you all trouble in your daily lives. I am proud of every American who stood in line and had the courage to believe that we can make a difference and that we can have change. I lift a toast to us, the American people!

To be honest, I am not very happy that Obama was voted president, the reasons being because I don’t agree with his policies and because SOME of the people voted for him for the wrong reasons. Many black people voted for him simply for the reason that he is black. Watch a clip from Howard Stern, in which their cameras traveled to Brooklyn and stopped black people on the streets and asked them questions about the election. All responded, Obama ofcourse and then they proceeded by asking them questions about why they were voting for him. They would ask them questions like, “Which of these policies made you want to vote for him more, his decision to stay in the war on Iraq or his policies or blah blah blah”, both CLEARLY being McCain’s policies, and they would respond as if they were OBAMA’s policies. When asked if they thought that Obama made a good decision in choosing SARAH PALIN as his running mate, they were all like “Oh yeah, I think Obama made a great decision in choosing her.” Things like this make me really think that many black people chose to vote for him simply for the reason that Obama is black, not for his policies.

Also, on the campus I go to school at, there was a religious rally with a group of extreme Christians preaching all sorts of crap, but they also made the statement that they were voting for McCain, for his POLICIES. The black people attending the rally grouped together and started yelling back at the group saying that they were all racists because they weren’t voting for Obama, I think that reasons like this is why people that voted for McCain are upset about the people who voted for Obama.

I would say to the NAACP to prove it or shut up. BTW, here’s a story about a white girl who received death threats because she wore a McCain shirt

Funny how the NAACP isn’t preaching tolerance for those who have viewpoints they don’t agree with.

Well lass The black people I have talked wouldn’t have voted for Rev Jackson because he wasn’t qualified. they voted for Obama because “he is qualified” And John McCain is not. If you believe that blacks will vote for a black solely because of the color of therir skin then you believe that women will vote for a woman because she has a vagina. Wake up! Blacks are not stupid. and they care about keeping their homes and jobs like everyone else does. John Mc Cain is corrupt. we was involved in the S&L failure because he was a bought man. He said during his primary, townhall meeting “I don’t know much about economics” . He further said, at the first bank failures, ” We need to remove regulations form off the banks so that they can generate cash. De-regulation is what has caused this mess in the first place he is out of touch and doesn’t know his a@@ from a hole in the ground. Obama has a doctorate in law and so does Biden. last time I checked they don’t hand those out on street corners. John has… uh .. don’t tell me… his military service. not a hard choice as to who is smarter. but I know you don’t vvalue book learnin do ya.

And by the way. Sarah Palin pals around with terrorists. What? you say “No way”! The internet is the voters best friend. if it’s a matter of public record then it’s out there if you care to be informed. do a search on Palin+AIP. These people want Alaska to leave the union. They hate the US. and good ol’ Sarah speaks at their convention every year, including 2008, and says to them keep up the good work. Now as a woman I understand your need to vote for anyone with a vagina, but as a student why would you support such an obvious moron which country is Africa located in??? don’t tell me … uh … oh it’s on the tip of my tongue. and what about John who didn’t know who the president of Spain, a NATO Ally, is. yeah buddy dumb and dumber in the white house makes me right prowd. The claim that Palin didn’t know Africa was a continent turned out to just be a false claim by someone who is going to work for another possible GOP contender in 2012. It was a sabotage attempt against Palin. As for the AIP… if I lived in Alaska I would join in a heartbeat. Since I’m a southerner I would vote for Georgia to secede from the union again.

jawgadude,

That is just friggen brilliant. First of all, there is one major lesson to be learned from the American Civil War. It’s “Try to leave and we’ll KICK YOUR A**.”

Furthermore, Georgia is already poor to the point of not being able to get by without Federal pork. Even if it could get out of the union or even if a majority of Georgians would support such a thing (not friggen likely), it would be amazingly stupid, since it would make Georgia EVEN POORER. Wow, what a nice standard of living THAT would create.

As for Palin, she is an ignoramus. It is clear she doesn’t know anything about government or international affairs. It is probably because she has an inferior education. Oh well, it has often been said that AK has more rednecks than all of Mississippi. I guess that is really true. After all, they wanted her as their governor.

My son attends Walton High School and my daughter attends one of the middle schools that feed Walton. I know many of the kids in the area from coaching basketball for several years. Both of my kids said that, in the days following the election, they have heard many nasty comments regarding Obama’s victory uttered by some Caucasian students while passing in the hallways. Some have said that they will soon leave the USA. One of our friends commented that her son, a Walton 9th grader, has had the same experience. We should not be surprised that some of the young people in this privileged, mostly Republican, enclave pick up on the fear and prejudice exhibited by their parents in the home. After the election, my neighbor across the street spoke to me for the third time in 8 years and for the first time engaged me in what for him was an extended conversation. Another staunch self described conservative Republican called me on the phone to congratulate me on Obama’s victory. I believe that many of my East Cobb, southern, country neighbors are confused, terrified, and disoriented at the concept of taking direction from a non white. This out of character guarded behavior reveals their feelings, unlike the more direct way their children express themselves. Although many begrudgingly accept and acknowledge Obama’s victory, most that know cannot celebrate any African American’s success. I told the well meaning caller not to worry, that it will be allright.

Racism is a two-sided street. In fact, I’ve heard more stories about McCain supporters that have been hassled because of their support for him. I applaud people who stand up for what they believe in, as opposed to doing what the extremely biased media is doing. It’s funny but for an election not based on race, it’s being touted as ‘historic’ (which I agree, by the way) because he’s the first AfricanAmerican President(elect). Hmm… seems fishy to me.

If you believe that blacks will vote for a black solely because of the color of therir skin then you believe that women will vote for a woman because she has a vagina.

First, explain to me, in detail, how John McCain is “not qualified” to run the country. I would ask you to prove how Obama is not qualified, but that is already a matter of public record.

Second, explain to me, if the African American population did not vote based on race, how data showed that 100% of African American females in South Carolina voted for Obama. An entire demographic does not vote 100% one way or another unless something other than politics is involved.

You are the personification of ignorance.

Knucklesandwich,

John McCain is clearly qualified to be President, but he made a LOT of missteps in his campaign that made him appear unprepared to lead the nation. No need to rehash.

Could you cite your source for the 100% stat in South Carolina? Cause that sounds like a WHOPPER.

Further, in fairness to the Black community, the Republican party hasn’t had high numbers of Blacks EVER. Black voters have ALWAYS favored the Democrats. Additionally, the Black vote wasn’t the only vote to increase this election year. Could the increase not be attributed to the fact that our current Pres has the lowest approval rating since approval rating data has been recorded and there was a chance that someone who votes with the Pres, by his OWN admission, 90% of the time would get in office?

And in this election, the Republicans did virtually NO campainging to the Black community or any other minority gorup. Please look at ALL the stats. Obama did well with EVERYONE except for whites over 65. Is everyone voting for him because he is Black? Of course not. Just like the vast majority of people voted against Obama because of his policies/party and NOT his race.

Another thing, if you want to call out Black voters, then call out those white voters on YouTube and those who FREELY ADMITTED in exit polls that they weren’t voting for Obama based on race. ANYONE who voted for or against based on race is WRONG but it is their right to vote how they choose. No side is more right than the other to vote on race. This issue has REALLY been beaten to death. There is ignorance on both sides. Blacks are no more guilty than whites.

In addition to the dissatisfaction with Bush’s policies, Obama’a calm demeanor, his well thoughout policies, McCains lurching from pillar to post, African -American pride, etc. part of the reason that McCain lost was that he continued to praise Palin when it was obvious to objective voters that she was not ready, not well read, inexperienced and ignorant of foreign affairs, generally incurious, and practiced politics of exclusion and separation. McCain continued to spin this when people were able to see the truth for themselves. He came off as dishonest in this regard and it felt like more of the same BS we had been getting from Bush. Who are you going to believe, me or your lying eyes? You are tinkling on my head and telling me it is rain. He should have dropped her after the Couric interview. He also made a crucial error by waiting for the democratic nominee to be selected before he began campaigning. He lost 5 months. I guess he felt that he needed to know if he was running against a woman or an African American to shape his campaign strategy . i suspect that in “his America” he never imagined that Americans would vote for an African American or a woman over him.

My daughter attends a Henry County elementary school. The school administration ordered the students not to discuss the election on November 5. I think we need to be reminded that the Supreme Court has spoken on the subject of free speech, particularly political speech, and such prior restraint of speech by school administrators is unlawful (Tinker anyone?). I hear other Henry County schools had their own problems last week as well. Its a shame we can talk about George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, but we can’t talk about Barack Obama, the first African-American President-elect in American history.

I, a white Democrat, live in a rural Georgia county, and I can tell you right now that there is both racial prejudice in evidence AND political pressure. My daughter was the only sixth grader in her class at school who voted for Obama in the mock election. As I drove down the road, I could see McCain/Palin signs in many yards. I told my family that the houses without the signs were the Obama supporters who were afraid their signs would be shot by gun-toting, angry folks who cannot see any other point of view. I have found the election to be an eye-opening event. Many of my acquaintances and friends, apparently good, church-going folks, have revealed a shocking level of anger, intolerance, and hatred in emails and letters to the editor and casual conversation. I have never paid much attention to politics before, but in this election the choices seemed so obvious. I have been astonished, and truly I wonder how well I really know these people I considered similar to myself. I don’t blame President-Elect Obama for not coming in person to Georgia to help Jim Martin.

In general, there is a great level of ignorance displayed by many out there, whether the person is black, white, or any shade in between. With Barack’s successful bid for the President of the US, blacks MUST remember this was not accomplished just by us voting…it was a country displaying a COLLECTIVE effort for change!! So please stop the madness, and “hating”, as some would like to say. To add another comment on things, I can say that I’ve experienced some racial acts of violence since the election. I work several jobs and at both of my main jobs the white race has become sneekie and whispering and when blacks come around they get real quiet. When they do say something about Pres. Obama they refer to him as that or are always negative. I think it is sad and shameful that we still have to go through this mess. As long as the white man was elected into office they were content. How long were we suppose to wait for our turn at bat. One thing for sure Pres. Obama cannot do any worst than they have at running this country.

I wish the world would understand that all people are different and not dislike or make accusations about a person because of the color of their skin, but unfortunately, this is not the case. The president-elect is a bright, well educated leader. Why can’t we all just see that. We have had many leaders of this country that we like and dislike, but never because of the race of the individual. This country has to overcome racism, it shows its ignorance daily. Jawgadude—

You say that 96% of blacks voted for Obama; I believe that close to 90% of blacks voted for Kerry, so really what is your point? The Democratic party is the party of inclusion—all one has to do is look at the diverse group of folks at a rally for a Democratic candidate versus the overwhelming white majority at a Republican rally. I am a middle-aged white woman, and I voted for Obama because he is well-educated, even-keeled, and fair, and the perfect leader for these times. I sobbed with joy the night he was elected, because I know he will (and has) change how America is seen around the world, bring some sanity and rational, intelligent analysis to the job of governing this great nation, and move forward to solve all these huge problems. He also puts a new face (of diversity) on America (one that truly reflects who America is in the 21st century), and his election speaks volume about the progress that this country has made to move beyond hatred and racial disharmony. But apparently we have far to go, as is evident in this article and the subsequent comments. Why is it so difficult for so many white Americans to understand the huge challenges and injustices that have faced so many minority individuals in this country for so long, and the devastating effects that these difficulties have had on the psyche of many. Wake up, it is a new day…one filled with promise and change, and, yes, hope.

I have not experienced any negative reactions since the election. I work for a mixed company and within my own department I am one of two African Americans and nothing has really changed. We weren’t the only race that helped to get Obama elected. I like to think that the country spoke up and made a decision as a whole, black, white, hispanic whatever. Obama was elected by a rainbow of people not just by our race. Don’t get me wrong I know racism is still alive in this country but for the moment I am able to watch history in the making and my children are here to see that Dream that Martin Luther King Jr. saw so many years ago. Now is the time for unity, now is the time to unite this country we live in and once again stand proud.

This happened in Kings Mountain, NC, which is Cleveland County.

My son wore my Obama pin, a white student approached him and hit him several times, while a white pregnant teacher watch, and didn’t try to intervene. My son then fought back, both he and the white student was suspended for five days. I have cried over the speech that Obama made, and very proud to see in my life time the very FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT of the United States. Seeing that for once in a lifetime, the blacks and whites united together to elect a BLACK MAN, shows me that change is coming. And I feel that OBAMA will be one of the best president of our lifetime, because he wants changes, and will look out for the middle-class, the rich will no longer get rich, and the greed and corruption, from these type people will soon end.

This is just a reality check for those who thought that racism was dead. It’s so sad when people get worked up about the one man of color who was chosen by the unquestionable majority to be the president of these [United] States. There have been 43 non-color US presidents, and the outcome of the last two elections were questionable. But some people are still not satisfied. This is the ignorance that has hindered us since America was first stripped away from the native people by greedy Europeans. Some of these racist bigots even have the audacity to claim Christianity… talk about hypocrits! This is probably why America is in the situation that it is in today. Of course a man of color would inherit this mess. Our ancestors built this country with their blood, sweat, and tears; the majority of them being people of color. WAKE UP PEOPLE!

I agree with the comment by Angel. It almost sounds as though some of the people on here commenting are white and racist. Just because you are not seeing the problem in your community doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen and all of you knows that it does. President Obama winning the election only accomplished one thing, letting black people know that if we work hard we can achieve but it doesn’t mean racism does not exist. That part is evident due to how hard Obama had to work in an election in which he was clearly the better candidate. So wake up people. So many of you are saying that this is ridiculous and just the NAACP trying to cause more racial tension, but take into consideration that a lot of people, black Republicans and whites of all parties, had issue with the fact that Obama won. The day after the election, a white co-worker who is usually very jovial and playful with everyone, especially the blacks, in my office, took issue with another co-worker, whom he constantly showers his attentions on, because she commented that his eyes were red and he looked like he’d been up crying all night. Not once did she mention the election and this was a comment she’d made at least once in the past, simply showing concern because she knew of his difficulties with one of his children. He immediately went into her supervisor’s supervisor’s office (not her direct supervisor, mind you) and complained that she’d made comments of a political nature to him, which he found insulting and against the company’s compliance policy. When she was reprimanded by her supervisor’s supervisor, she pointed out that not once had she mentioned politics, but had simply made a note of his appearance out of concern for his well-being as, not only a co-worker, but a friend. She was instructed to apologize and, when she said she’d send him an email apology, she was told to go to him and apologize. She did so, but made sure that it was known that she’d made no comment that was out of line, had not mentioned politics, and that from that point going forward things should be business-only between them. He has not spoken to any people of color in the office since the day after the election. And the race of the president-elect is not an issue with a lot of people in the south? Get real!!!

Get real!!!

I find it amazing that so many people are working so hard to convince themselves that, simply because racism has not affected them or thier families directly, that it no longer exists. My 8 year old took part in the Kids Vote America campaign and had several kids with whom he’s been friends for the last 4 years tell him how stupid he is for voting for Obama, even though he research each of the candidates and read extensively about their backgrounds, core-values, and platforms before making a decision. He probably is more informed about the candidates than most of the registered voters in the US. When they confronted, and yes, it was a confrontation because they cornered him in the restroom at school and queried him and tried to pressure him into changing his mind, he informed them of what he’d learned in his research and pointed out that everyone’s free to vote for the candidate of their choice, whether they really know what the person stands for or not. A male teacher entered the restroom when he heard yelling and found that the other boys were threateniing my son with bodily harm if he didn’t change his mind. My heart filled even more with pride when the teacher, a white male in his 30’s, told me that, prior to hearing what my son had to say, he felt that people were simply voting for Obama because of the novelty of his race or because he’s and African American like them, but my son’s explanation of why he chose Obama as his candidate made him look more closely at the facts and helped him to change his vote and that he was ashamed to admit that he had planned to vote the McCain/Palin ticket simply because he didn’t feel it was right for a Black to be President of the US. And in my office of predominately white people, most of them have not spoken to the Black in the office for any reason other than business since the election. And there has been a definite chill in the air. The comraderie that we once shared has been replaced with a coldness that is only rivaled by the chill of Antartica and Iceland.

Georgia is and will continue to be a confederate state until these old racist die off (remember not one but two elected georgia officals did not have a problem implying that then Senator Obama was a uppity. This generation of bigots have to die off and when the bigots are the minority in georgia then we can move forward. That will not be too much longer. When President Elect gets in office they will drive themselves to their graves. We will not miss these bigots and their offsprings.

I myself teach in the private sector at a Catholic School In Winter Haven FL. I too am African American, but during and after the election, many students in my class room wanted to engage in converstation with me about Pres. Elect Obama. To my surprise the majority of students were responding with negative racist comments. One even suggested that the Pres. Elect would soon be terminated by the KKK immediately. Now keep in mind the poplulation of blacks in this school is only 10-12 students out of 1500 students total. And I am the only Black educator on campus. However, It really bothers me when white Americans think that racism does not exist. I myself have been insulsted many times by whites in my community. My wife has been called the N word while walking to her car in a parking lot. My neighbor who is also an educator at a public school, thinks that blacks are always raising an issue about rascism, but she would understand if she lived as a black being being riduculed for the most part. I believe that everyone who is white isn’t racist; I myself have many white assaciates and do cherish and respect the relationship, but there are others who I believe are just ashamed or just don’t want to admit it because of guilt. My main point is this! If America is going to change, we all need to change. We need to admit that racism still exist and do something about it together. I know at times the race card is sometimes mentioned, but if we as an African American people can feel just as equal to our white neighbors, colleques, co-workers, and friends I believe some of this division and negative connation would cease.

Everybody: Life is just too short to hateful. Hate spreads just like unity and love. So lets try and make a difference in our world. Teach our children how to get along with oneanother. There need not te be another 10-20 years of hate/discrimination/racism.

I work in a group home with young boys anywhere from the ages of 8 to 17,from all ethinic and racial backgrounds. After Obama’s presidential win…Obama was on a television show and a consumer stated, “Die!” He said, “yeah, he’ll be dead before Jan 20th! Another older man was yelling in a store that he didn’t vote for no Obama and if anybody touches him he would shoot ‘em!” I wonder if God has just rendered their minds reprobate because ignorance can not begin to explain “some” people!

Continue to let freedom ring! Amnerica is a great country and believe that it can be even better if we can see each other as one. No race is better than the other. No color is better than the other, No hair staighter than the other. Our anatomy/humanity is the same. Same blood, same heart, have to breathe the same way. Only difference is skin pigmentation.

NAACP is here for a reason. And I appreciate them. Someone or something has to be an advocate for colored people until racism, discriminatino is all deceased.

When African-Americans voted for those not of our complextion, none of us to my knowledge, made any adverse remarks. All of us are humans, laugh, cry, bleed the same color blood and made by a Creator, no matter your faith, culture or denomination. My faith tells me to respect the dignity of every human being, even if one is not liked, respect is the ultimate element.

It is indeed unfortunate that there is still so much bigotry in this country. We need to grow up. That growth can only come from an honest assessment of our own prejudices and the reality of racism in our country.

There are genuine and caring people of all ethnic backgrounds. There are also hateful and ignorant people across the spectrum. Let’s not simply dismiss issues and act as though there aren’t problems.Let’s review the facts and deal with these things accordingly.

God bless this nation and this world. We all need his love and guidance.

Who would ever think that “change” could come in the minds of everyone. Wishful thinking on the part of anyone who believes that just because President-Elect Obama is in the seat of world power that life would just automatically change. We were warned over 30 years ago that this would take place. History has proven that those who claim to be “REAL” Americans are often the very ones who are hatefilled to the core and do not demand from themselves anything but mediocrity and failure. So, when it comes to something as simple as moving forward no matter what race the person is they tend to hide behind the flag, the bible and anything that they feel will help them to find a resting place in their own self excused shame. They should be using the principles of the flag, the constitution, sucession from Britain, the bible and so many other symbols to really look deeper into themselves to know why they are so venemous towards embracing a better path in history. Maybe Mr. Obama will not turn this country around, but it should not just be his duty. We still woke up on November 5th as Americans wanting change. What will we do to make it happen? The last time I checked WEAKNESS was not an American attribute. We can accomplish as a nation what we will!

Black students here in Sikeston @ the Middle School were told not to mention Obama’s name on the days following the election. Could someone contact me for further details @ 573-471-3859. Also the Chief of Police, Drew Judan, ordered baracades to be put up around the voting place for Ward #4 on Nov. 4th. The County Clerk, Rita Milan, was called. After a confortation with Mr. Judan they agreed that the baracades should be removed. We need help here in Sikeston, MO (the bootheel).

some people may think that african americans are illeterate, but the fact of the matter whites been more illeterate since the beginning of time. We African Americans Build the USA from ground up. We were the one who made it possible for the white house just because their is a African American man and family in the office doesn’t mean that black people will have authority over all whites and other races. Be for real we have came a long way and for teachers, employers, CEO’s Managers, etc. To start this bull s** with african americans is more wrong than us as a people trying to acknowledge that we too can be somebody in power. We are the people that made some of your families become what you are today. If it wasn’t for our Great Grandparents raising the Master white kids you all would be lost. See don’t forget we breast fed you, we potty trained you, we cooked for you, we build for you so now is the time for us African american to build for themselves and their families letting them know that no matte what the white man, yellow man or what ever color he/she is you can become someone who the world would look up to. I have 4 boys and the things that goes on this world since Mr. Obama became the elect. I told them to keep their heads up high and continue to pray for those who despitefully miss use them. Because in the end God has and attendency to make your enimies your foot stool. Every one is talking about Mr. Obama picks this person and that person when all along God had this all planned. I know they have done my son wrong but inspite of that i know how to get them back, Not buy yelling, protesting, but by the smarts i have. See i learned the hard way you can’t go around blaming the white man, but you show can get in his pockets that’s what hurts the most. It’s time out for this racial stuff and start being smart. How do you think they were able to get to where they are? Not by yelling, not by protesting, but the misuse of the black man for the beginning of time.We have over come and they change starts within us so we can raise our children in the right way and not allow them to stray because of how they are being treated. Star fighting for your child, your job, your mother, your father, your sister, your brother, if they see we won’t give up then it would be installed in them not to give up.

I dont even know why I’m dignifying this by commenting but keep it real.. Black folks are way more racist these days than whites. Lets see when Obama is not acting “black” enough how fast they turn on him and then they will call him the first “mixed” president instead of the first “black” president. At least its good to see that he loves both sides of his race and that he is above all u lames out there. So keep crying racism.. and keep trying to stay revelant (not black people just racist people) Organizations like the NAACP may still exist in the future just like the kkk still exist today..but they will meet the same fate as the kkk, which is total irrevelance. Luckily races are mixing up so much no one will be around to complain about ish in the next 50 yrs. And trust..my son is mixed and the ONLY people who have anything negative to say about it is the lil black kids..but I know its not their fault..its their ignorant a$$ parents who spew racist thoughts to thier children

I didn’t vote because i didn’t like any of the choices. Either way, I can think of a hundred reasons to not like Obama (i.e. Pro Choice, FOCA, gun control, to name a few without totally insulting the poor guy), and they don’t have anything to do with race as that’s a stupid reason to not like someone, and it’s also a stupid reason to vote for someone too. I can’t imagine all those things are racially involved. How many of the “white people” involved voted for Obama? For those who didn’t vote for him, I’m sure the fear of what the man stands for and where he intends to take this country is a bigger issue than the color of his skin.

But, the NAACP needs to look into the allegations and ascertain that racism and discrimination are not playing a part. That’s their job, and since racism is often something that just can’t be proven, any type of investigation at least sends the message that it won’t be tolerated. Whether or not this is a racist situation does not change the fact that racism is still in the schools.

I am sadden by the incidents I see occurring. While there are wonderful groups of people who are interested in helping each other, regardless of race. I would like to say that these incidents are not occurring, however, unfortunately, they are. We reside in California and at my daughter’s private high school, the day after the election, a White male was so anger because Obama won (he made it known before the elections he did not want Obama to win), that he jumped a Black senior, just because he voted for Obama. Of course, the student was suspended but it is sad. People need to look inside of thenmselves to determine why there is such hatred against African Americans.

I find some of these “just get over it” types indicative of the levels of systemic racism that continues to haunt this country and continues to convey the hypocrisy of our democracy.

It’s ridiculous to assert that one must prove a slight or explain their pain. Furthermore, to blame an organization for bringing such ignorance to light smacks of the old redneck talk of “agitators.”

Those uninformed types still do not understand racism involves “impact” rather than “intent.”

Burying ones head in the type of argument that sully’s the particulars and foresakes the realities is the type of communication that will continue to lock such individuals out of the possibility of any kind of enlightenment.

Bold: I havr=e voted in every election since I turned 18, I believe it is our civic duty to vote. I vote based on the issues thatr the country is facing at the time. I am part of the disappearing middle class. I do not believe that religious beliefs should dictate who we vote for. I am a Christian but I support a womans right to choose. I am against guns but that is not why I voted for Obama. I am community minded so I always vote for the person whose vision includes improving the life of people in this nation. I do not belive in welfar but I do believe that if you “do well” as a result of your citizenship, you should also contribute more to protect the very country that supports you.m This includes looking out for the “underdog”. Majority rule has spoken anh folks need to move on with their lives. We live in a society in which the color of a persons skin and their culture does cause some to discrimminate, intimidate and harm. This is unfortunate nut true. Any form of this type of behavior must be exposed. There needs to be public outrage at any form of discrimmination. When this is not addressed, it escalates! Unfortunately, many of the “humans” at my job, with lighter skin, are angry about this election. They have decided to create tension at the workplace. What’s worse is that these people take out their frustration on the students they teach. Most of the behavior is of the passive/aggressive type. Teachers will sit back and let their students get out of control because they do not want to be bothered with “them” (Black and Latino students). This is not a new issue but I see this behavior has escalated and because the principal has not addressed it, it will continue to happen. This is the danger of living in denial or ignoring circumstances.

We need to come together. I’m a white 46 year old American and I love people. I voted for Obama because he represents people whether they are black, white, yellow etc. I voted for Obama because of who he is not what color he is. I did share in the joy that a black person represents our country that’s true, but I voted for him because I believe in him as a person. We need to see eachother as people not what race or culture we belong. Americans are made up of all kinds of people. That’s a beautiful thing. To share what we have that is different in culture is the spice of life. Did you ever see that poem by Maya Angelou about how race is poetry and at the end she says “We are more alike than different”…It’s so true. When we free ourselves from those chains that bind us, then we will be “free at last.” We can’t move ten steps forward then take ten steps back….That’s not progress. How long will it take for us to accept eachother as people. We are all children of God. He made us unique in our own way, but we’re all people with hopes and dreams. Please come together for the greater good of man and woman kind…for the next generation….

Magairle an Mór: Your comments were some of the best on this whole blog. I couldn’t agree with you more and couldn’t have said it better myself. Also, In 1909, when it was formed, “Colored and White” people needed the NAACP. The NAACP was relevant then and is still relevant today because of racism. The NAACP is a non-partisan organization. The NAACP wasn’t formed to get a black man elected as president and then disband. The ignorance, misinformation and lies of some of the bloggers on this site is apalling. I am overjoyed that President-Elect Obama didn’t and will not let anyone who doesn’t want to accept a black man as president prevent him from taking this Country forward.

I lift a toast to us, the American people!

first and foremost id like to say that this man our new president is trying his best to bring all people of color together so that we can build our country as a better and safer place to live without out race hatred i think obama should pass a law for stiffer penalties against anyone whom post hate on the internet public places graffiti or anything that has to do with hate hatred creates harmful acts against people whom havent done any harm to anybody so you should be punished no matter what color you are its time we put this race thing behind us america and move on with our lives and build our country and raise our families and stop this war against the color of someones skin its stupid down right dum and theres no reason to hate someone for being themselves im glad obama was elected by whites and blacks so i guess the real problem remains is obama in the eyes of ignorant people is still black even though this man has a white family some people until the end of time will still be ignorant and theyll take this hatred to their graves with them im african american and proud to be an american this is my home and i want to see all races come together so that we can learn alot from each other i believe that this is what obama wants us to do and im behind him 100 percent.

Daryl Graham, spokesman for the state NAACP, said the press conference would feature an east Cobb County family whose daughter attends Walton High School. “The day after, there was a chill in the building,” Graham said.

I’m, I’m paranoid,…. and……. and… it’s somebody else’s fault.

God help our Nation.

Since the election I have heard nor seen any changes in Baltimore. Yeah you may hear a comment from some about how we as people (all races) should feel good about what is going on. Collegues are still speaking to one another. It is a shame that the NAACP continues to try to put things out there that are not happening to start tensions between the races. Whites were the majority who voted for Obama. The only people who may have an issue are the Repubs(black and white). They are the ones who are not happy. Maybe we need to find out how many of the NAACP people talking this crap are Republicans.

As I reading others’ comments in regards to the topic I was really disappointed in some people’s responses. Yes this is election was not supposed to be about race and this was stressed during the campagin, but unfortunately it was about race and will further bring out the race issue in America. I wish that everyone would accept this fact and start deal with it and in doing so will begin the first stages to change even more. America is a racially divided country no matter how people would like to deny it, hide it, ignore it, etc. This was not only a huge win for Black America, but for Latin America, Chinese America, Indian America, Russian America, etc! We showed the world on November 4, 2008 that now at this point in time IT IS possible for anyone to be President of the USA and that color is no longer an obstacle and in doing so we have angered many White Americans! So I don’t think the NAACP has to come up with make believe stories because I myself had to deal with rude, racial comments leading up to the election so I don’t find this to be hard to be believed at all!

All leaders that are elected need our prayers and support b/c whether ppl are upset or angry they will be our leaders! And NAACP…I attend school in Athens, GA and I heard a woman speak of an incident with her nephew in ELEMENTARY school in Carrolton, GA and he was picked at by his classmates for sayig he would vote for Obama (yes, I remember having mock elections in elementary school) and the teacher did not stop it…this was an eight year old!!! Come on everyone; LOVE is what this country and the world needs…for the little black boy in Carrolton, GA and for the little white girl that was harrassed by several black students…Question: If this election is not about race, then why is everyone SO ANGRY!!! If we spoke about Clinton after he won, then why can’t we speak about Obama after his win!!!!

I believe that God began paving the way for this election way back when Bush was first elected. The economy was on it’s way to ruin then. Sometimes God uses people according to the intentions of their heart. He will allow those intentions to manifest in the form of works. God knew George Bush’s intentions and he allowed the world to see them during his eight year tenor. Sometimes you can show people better than you can tell them. The whole world saw. It took a devastatingly failing economy to get the attention of the whole world. The method to this madness…. It made the haves equal to the have nots, not only financially, but also caused the whole world to seek a …Real … solution not a band aid.It took all of that just so Barack Obama could be seen fairly as a capable opponent. He just happened to be black. His was the voice in the wilderness… that voice just happened to be black. My message is this…If you fell in the water and couldn’t swim, and a capable willing hand fished you out at it’s own risk… with no respect of person…. Would you, after seeing that hand was black, jump back in and drown? If you chose to drown, then you have your reward and are where you should be. Oh by the way, God is for all colors even when they are not for himm. No human or those that consider themselves inhuman have ever hindered God’s work.

Unfortunately, racism is a double-edge sword. No one group holds the patent to racism, bigotry, hatred, ignorance, or studipity. I don’t want my kids harassing anyone for backing McCain, and I don’t want them to feel threatened because their parents voted for Obama.
Skin color aside…we all the right to vote for whoever feel is the best candidate. As for the chill aka office tension, forget that. If a person choose not to speak to me because I voted for Obama, then so be it. I was not seeking anyone’s approval when I cast my vote.

by John stated:”To the NAACP, Obama is HALF WHITE you f-ing MORONS!”

Remember this people?

“The one-drop rule is a historical colloquial term in the United States that holds that a person with any trace of African ancestry is considered black unless having an alternative non-white ancestry which he or she can claim, such as Native American, Asian, Arab, or Australian aboriginal.[1] It developed most strongly out of the binary culture of long years of institutionalized slavery.”

That is why Obama is called a “BLACK” MAN!

Give me a break! 1) The NAACP should be doing something else with their time. How about helping people get fed and clothe this winter? 2) Stop whinning. So what if people are mistreating you because of the outcome of the election. Think about the good things — you got to vote; the country came together; African Americans, Whites, Asians, Hispanics, gay, straight, etc.; we have a President-Elect who cares about all of us. If you want to spend time on something, spend time thinking about how you are going to become a better citizen; how you are going to commit to public service/volunterism; how you are going to help our President-Elect Obama dig our country out of this economic ditch we have fallen in. Finally, are you watching the news? Apparently not. All around the country our fellow citizens are hurting — no job, no food, no housing. So you’re hurting because someone said something to you? Get a grip.

Ladies & Gentlemen it is apparent that racism is still at the heart of small group of small mind people. Their narrow mind view and twisted reality is long gone. They cannot and will not speak for the People of these United States of America. We must stand vigilant and strong. Unity always wins over disunity. Presistance over comes resistance. Let us use the weapons that will conquer all weapons of hate and intolerance. Love over hate and Peace over War. My name is Lawrence JOnes. I approve this message. Long Live OBAMA Long Live OBAMA “GOD BLESS ALL AMERICANS EVEN THE IGNORANT”

So you need evidence? Type in Rebel Flag banned at Reeltown High School or principal bans rebel flag at the wsfa.com website. I am working in this school system and I know that these are not mere allegations. When you don’t experience things, it is easy to say others are embelishing the truth. The KKK took a vacation once “so called” educated People who are Black “arrived” and became passive to the racist and discriminatory acts perpretrated against other People who are Black.

There is a teacher at my school who I confronted regarding a statement she admittedly made in her room concerning an essay contest: “Who Inspires You” by McDonalds and 365 black.com. She admitted that she told the students last week, “You can’t write about Barack Obama.” My two daughters take her class. I told her that her statement was discriminatory and my daughter, who wants to write about Barack Obama, will write about him and if she does not receive a fair grade, I am going to the Board of Education and television. She admitted to me that she called my daughter a sexist and racist because my daughter said, “Barack Obama is a powerful Black man.”
