A possible Chambliss ad, and weighing a visit from Obama
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The Saxby Chambliss campaign has posted a feel-good ad on YouTube that you’re likely to see on TV.
The ad opens with triumphal music and scenes of 9/11, when — though it doesn’t say so — Chambliss was a member of the U.S. House: “When our country was under attack, we trusted Saxby Chambliss.”
The video eventually segues to the current financial crisis: “Now, America faces its toughest challenge in decades, and Saxby Chambliss is fighting for Georgia families again, to get our economy back on track, with protections for taxpayers, relief for homeowners and an end to Wall Street abuses.”
(Update: Though the ad was posted on YouTube last Wednesday, a commenter below notes that it had at least a brief appearance in the Macon area in the general election.)
See it below:
Meanwhile, in the Democratic blogsphere, Jon Flack is wondering if whether a trip to Georgia, to match John McCain’s Thursday visit, would be smart for President-elect Barack Obama:
I would tell him not to come to Georgia. I know that makes me a very bad person, but really there is no upside for him to do so. I’d imagine he is a pretty busy guy right now, and sacrificing some political capital on a Senate race that looks uphill doesn’t strike me as wise. The path to 60 is rocky, if not impossible, and let’s face it folks, we don’t have a good track record lately in state-wide runoffs.

This ad was running before the general election, at least in the Macon area.

Saxby, how exactly does bailing out Wall Street bring “an end to Wall Street abuses”?

Sissy Saxby will observe Veterans Day by playing golf. His knee got him out of the draft but it doesn’t keep him off the links.

John McCain criticized Chambliss’ 2002 race against Max Cleland.
“I’ve never seen anything like that ad,” says McCain. “Putting pictures of Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden next to a picture of a man who left three limbs on the battlefield — it’s worse than disgraceful, it’s reprehensible.”” (Washington Post, 7/3/2003)

SAXBY IS GOOD FOR AIG..which is good for the country. We must protect the rich and not let the middle class have a voice again.— Saxby and his son Bo are brave men fighting in the trenches to keep the tax payers money where it belongs.————-Whatever is good for Saxby and Bo is good for the country.

I guess John McCain is showing his true colors: After standing up for Max Cleland against Saxby Chambliss in 2002, he now comes to Georgia to campaign for Saxby.
So much for “Supporting the Troops” and his fellow Viet Nam vets.

Saxby’s calls & Emails were 500:1 against his vote for the $700 Billion Bailout Wall Street Bill but Saxby kept his word & the $2.5 million we gave him. Saxby is a man of honor to us Lobbyist but is a draft dodger to the country.

Jon Flack is correct. It is more appropriate for the US Senate Democratic Caucus to get involved in the form of money and other Senators with credibility in Georgia to speak on Martin’s behalf. The message is simple: Do not reward Chambliss for voting with Bush 95% of the time and being the advancement guy for corporate interest and the fat cats. Noise is all Chambliss will be able to deliver for Georgia under a Democratically controlled Senate.

Right now, 6 time draft dodger Cheney is speaking to veterans and putting wreaths at toombs in ceremonies that mean nothing to Cheney and Bush another draft dodger.
Wooten wants you to vote for draft dodger Chamblis who is an employee of the sugar company whose stupid practices killed nearly 20 people.

We need to elect Jim Martin to save the F22 program and my job. Saxby is a Republican & with the Democrats in control of congress, he can’t help us. Obama wants to kill the F22 & Saxby is hopeless..

Notice all the uniforms Saxby puts in his ad, but you never see a picture of him in a uniform! He loves them when other people wear them! Of course uniforms make his knee act up!

Saxby Chamblisss has sold out the people of Georgia by voting for the Wall Street bailout and one-way “free trade” deals. Jim Martin is clearly the better choice. We need to a change from the Bush-Chambliss “trickle down” policies.

How lovely to read on Veteran’s Day that John McCain will campaign on behalf of Bush-backer Saxby Chambliss, the man he chastised for attacking Max Cleland, who lost three limbs defending our country in Vietnam. McCain can’t seem to help himself, going out there to defend the same Rove-driven thugs who attacked him and his family in 2000, helping him to lose that presidential race as well as 2008.
A pathetic finale to the political career of a former hero.

One of my favorite memories of Georgia is visiting with the good people of Macon, Georgia. My first experience of Southern hospitality with kindness and all the good eats.
Now I feel terrible that Saxby Chambliss who swiftboated and insulted Max Cleland, a senator who lost three limbs in defense of America can without any question request Georgia to vote in his behalf. And worse, John McCain is campaigning for him after he insulted had claimed Chambliss actions against Cleland were detestable. Furthermore, there is no difference between Bush and Chambliss, he has a 95% voting record with Bush.
It’s almost as if they don’t stand for anything. Not this time, this time vote for Jim Martin for US Senator Democrat Georgia

I just donated to the Martin campaign because this country badly needs change. We’re in the worst crisis since the 1930s and the Republicans are the cause of it, not the solution. The’ve been the dominant party for the last 30 years, which has only been a Second Gilded Age for 80% of the people in this country. I’ve never donated money like this before to ANY politicians as I have this year, but the condition of the country is desperate.
