Chambliss slips further below the 50 percent mark

In the yet-to-be resolved U.S. Senate race, Republican incumbent Saxby Chambliss is now 16,895 votes short of the magic 50-percent-plus-one mark that would let him avoid a runoff with Democrat Jim Martin.

For Chambliss, the 50-percent gap has increased more than 800 votes since Friday morning, though the overall percentages have not: Chambliss, 49.8 percent; Martin, 46.8 percent; and Libertarian Allen Buckley, 3.4 percent.

Here’s the latest on the tardy Fulton County vote.

May we be blessed with a runoff. Chambliss is already running ads based on scaring the soccer moms. MEN: RESTORE the Constitution. This paper is named for the CONSTITUTION. DID YOU TAKE AN OATH TO DEFEND THE CONSTITUTION AGAINST ALL ENEMIES< FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC? Think about this: Chambliss voted against the Constitution on several occaisions. His 9-11 ads are designed to support his position AGAINST the Constitution. What exactly? 1. NO SPEEDY TRIAL.
2. NO HABEAS CORPUS. (you cannot see the evidence against you and you cannot cross examine witnesses. What’s this all about? Chambliss says, just in case we find a terrorist under your bed, we need to drag him off with NO CHARGES, NO TRIAL and just keep him in prison forever, like in England in 1600.

Patriots, UNITE!! And defeat the enemy of the Constitution. End Chambliss. VOTE MARTIN.

Thank you and tell your friends. This is serious business. Right now, there is a law that says, you or anyone can be place on the no-fly list and you cannot challenge it or see the evidence against you or know your accuser. You can be wiretapped EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT PRESENTLY ACCUSED OF A CRIME.

END THE REPRESSION AND FEAR TACTICS. VOTE NO TO CHAMBLISS AND HIS 9-11 video. The Constitution says, you cannot even ‘suspend’ habeas corpus unless we are being invaded or there is an INSURRECTION. 9-11 was years ago, and bin Laudin is in hiding. END THE REPRESSIVE LAWS CHAMBLISS SUPPORTS. THEY ARE MEANT TO CONTROL YOU. That’s all.
VOTE MARTIN. Only 65% of the Georgia public voted in the general election. All the uproar about lots of voters was media hype. In New England there were towns where 100% of the people voted. VOTE AND SAVE THE REPUBLIC. RESTORE HABEAS CORPUS and reject the GOP politics of fear. Thank you citizens. VETERANS, TELL YOUR FRIENDS. VOTE FOR MARTIN.

I voted for McCain, but also for Martin. I’ll be voting for Martin in the runoff and encouraging my Republican friends to do so.

As much as it pained me to vote for a democrat, Im sick and tired of Saxby’s BS, his special interest allegiances, and the low moral standards he represents. I even voted for Saxby over Cleland last time, but he has showed me since then that was a BIG mistake.

It just makes more sense to me to have someone of Martin;s strong character and work ethic (even if I do frown upon some of his more liberal minded views) representing us in Washington, especially since the filibuster-proof majority is no longer a threat to the senate. Plus he seems like he genuinely wants to help Georgia, and not his buddies or lobbyists.

A friend of mine used to work for Chambliss in Washington, and even she voted for Martin on Tuesday!!!

We won’t be voting for Saxby. The fact that he is recycling the old “Martin will help Obama raise your taxes” ad speaks volumes.

How is he supposed to be able to work with those across the aisle-the MAJORITY, across the aisle, and work with our newly-elected president, while he keeps spewing, what has been proven to be false? (independent economists have all said that Obama’s plan will not raise taxes on the middle class).

To me, the fact that Chambliss is trying to scare people into voting for him by repeating the lies over and over prove he is not ready to work with the “other party.”

Time to vote this man OUT. Thankfully, several folks I know who voted early voted for him and have said, “I won’t be doing it again in the run-off.”

Martin, ‘08.

The Chambliss/Martin contest has been very ugly. Many of you are accusing Chambliss of trying to scare people, but Martin has done the same thing! His ads about how “Saxby wants to implement a 23% sales tax” are taken totally out of context. The reference is to implementation of the Fair Tax, which would REPLACE the IRS and Income Tax. The Fair Tax would probably be just what we need to get our economy going.
Government gridlock is a GOOD thing, and too many Democrats were elected on Tuesday. We need some Republicans in there to run interference. The partisanship that exists in this country these days is horrific. Nobody seems to put the COUNTRY first. The goal seems to be what’s the best way to stick it to the other party. VOTE FOR SAXBY!! Hey Freedon Watch, the State Republicans voted against the 700B bailout because Newt “The Sleuth” Gingrich told them that they wouldn’t be re-elected. So guess what, they all voted against it.. However, right after the bill passed, these same Republicans held a press conference to say that passing the 700B bailout was the right thing to do…..So, let me get this right, they went on the Congressional record as voting against the bill, but then held a press conference to say it was the right thing to do…..As the CoL USMC forgot to mention in his previous post… these are the TRUE SNAKES!

It’s not a renaming of the IRS, nor does it create another layer of government you under-educated liberal slave.

Fair Tax - Tax on consumption of resources. Would tax everyone from the 5 year old at the candy store to Jay Leno at a Car Show and the foreign visitors to the country… yes, we would be helping finance our government on the backs of anyone who came here to visit, tour or work on a temporary visa.

Buy a 100,000 car pay 23,000 in taxes Buy a 10,000 car pay 2,300 in taxes In addition to encouraging saving money, it taxes those who spend extravagantly.

Current US Tax code - convoluted system by which top 60% of wage earners in the US pay 100+% of the funding of the government. 100+%? Yes, when you ship off EITC checks off to the bottom 40%, the top 60% are paying more than the government needs to actually operate itself. Through this system of taxation, US products currently have a 29% tax added into the cost before it even hits the shelves.

Vote for a fair tax and the product costs will remain the same, if not even drop 2 to 3%. Argue all you want, but regressive taxes are infinitely more blind to the purchaser than the progressive (progressively steep!!!) tax brackets we are used to right now. Make April15th a day like any other….support the fair tax.

We really need to have a viable two-party system in Georgia. When either party has a lock on state political control, we end up with political corruption, abuse of power, and unresponsiveness to Georgia citizens.

When I was a young man growing up in Georgia under the control of Democrats, I voted Republican. Now I vote Democrat. Every time I contacted Chambliss’ office about some concern I had, I was read the Bush party line. I think Chambliss voted with Bush perhaps 100% of the time. My vote is for Martin.

We cannot afford to give the Dems a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate. We are still at war. Saxby Chambliss will always vote in favor of a strong America.

Let’s see now, when it came time for Mr. Chambliss to serve, he didn’t, OTOH, Mr. Martin did. I think that alone means that Martin has a better idea of what it means to support the troops than Chambliss does. To suggest that Mr. Martin will sell out the country while Mr. Chambliss is the TRUE PATRIOT seems out of kilter to me. COL USMC should support someone who served rather than someone who didn’t.

And I have to laugh at the brain-dead claim that the Republicans make that we can’t allow the Democrats to control both the Congress and the Presidency. They certainly didn’t raise that concern in 2000 when Mr. Bush won/stole office. Rather than try to run on the merits of their service and the quality of their candidates, they’d rather trade in fear again. It’s just another instance of their moral bankruptcy. I’m going voting for Mr. Martin to foster quality change and against gridlock.

We do not need a viable 2 party system in this state, what we need are 4,5, 7 or even 10 viable parties that are able to compete on a fair playing field for the votes of Georgia citizens.

Saxby deserves to lose his seat because he has sided with Bush’s war criminal policies and his unconstitutional behavior for the last 6 years. He voted for the socialist bailout that will likely precipitate the worst depression this world has ever seen. He is no conservative, he is a socialist/fascist - by definition. This is not disparagement, this is fact. Just look up the definition of the terms and his voting record.

The true conservatives in this state should be able to turn to another party for a replacement. Jim Martin is probably just as much of a socialist and will only be a party to the further destruction of the constitution and the economy that Obama has in mind.

But thanks to the unfair policies of the two parties (really just one party with two faces) it is nearly impossible for any other party to get on the ballot.

There has not been a third party candidate for Congress that has been able to get over the ridiculous and criminal hurdles they have set up since 1935!

Every other state in this nation has greater access to the ballot than ours. The country of Georgia probably has better access for new parties and they used to be part of the Soviet Union.

It is disgusting that someone like Saxby can only be replaced by voting for Martin. This state deserves better that both of them. Well, I guess when I really think about the attitudes I confront from people in this state, maybe this state is getting exactly what it deserves.

Fulton County and the Secretary of State dropped the ball. I am a resident of Clayton County who participated in advance voting, Our County Chairman had a meeting on Monday prior to the Election and stated that 86K registered voters had not voted. Our numbers are not adding up. With 99% of the votes counted McCain had 28K votes to Oboma’s 82K votes. I still don’t believe that the advance votes were counted. The numbers just don’t add up.The Secretary of State has dropped the ball and she refuses to take responsibility for the Catastrophe she allow to happen in the state of Georgia. Martin started with about $35 grand after the primary; Chambliss actually had about 8 million in his warchest. He can keep wasting his money with the same stupid commericals; it won’t help.

And if he brings moroncuda in with the politics of hate and the imbecile stupid enough to nominate her, it will continue to help us Crush Saxbutt.

Jim Wooten should already be moving the furniture out of the Bush White House.

3 days after the election, (because they were scared they would get their butts stopmed which they did) Bush made cuts to medicaid that will severely injure the teaching hospital system. If not corrected by Obama and Congress, and they will be they would drive scores of patients into the private hospital system who would be freaking out as their ERs get flooded.

Yes we did and yes we will. If you Wingnuts are dumb enough to keep insulting us with Moronbilly Palen who is dumber than a 3rd grader, keep her talking because we will crush any cause she stands for with her moron brain and vitriolic hate.

“I’m not gonna answer the questions you want me to answer…I’m gonna talk straight to the American people and let ‘em know my track record.”

That worked about a hundred and sompin’ somepin’ electoral votes short well didn’t it Sayyyruhhhh Moron?

“In what respect Charley?”

“They’re our next door neighbors. Well it certainly does because our nextdoorneighbors are foreign countries. Putin rears his head and comes into the airspace of the USA. Where do they go?”

“I read all of em any of em that have been front of me.”

“I’ll try to find some [examples of McPalin differing from Bush on regulation] and I’ll get back to ya.”

You betcha moron!

Keep Joe the Moron fake Plumber in the spotlight. Joe didn’t think sharing the wealth was bad when he went on welfare twice in his life. He skipped that little gem.

The RNC is not dumb enough to run her again even though she will get her Lt. Gov. to appoint her Senator after Stevens is quickly removed from the Senate. She will display her stupidity time and time again if she gets to the Senate.

Obama won every Bush state except hickville Jaw Jaw whch is perennially last in education.

The moronic bailout Saxby blindly supported because he’s a Bush puppet and Graham, that is well over a trillion dollars actually has done nothing but take money out of every reader’s pocket seemlessly—consider it a financial wallet jacking and jacking of your bank account.

No bank has used a penny to begin loaning. Instead they continue to use it for massive bonuses and bank buying (which should be confined to their money not yours).

We will be voting against Phil Graham, the Goldman Sachs team of several used by Paulson, and Bernanke and Greenspan’s stupidity when we elect Martin.

No Bailouts for the Auto companies.

Nardelli has two multimillion dollar homes on Garmon Drive—let him bail them out. You would never see a penny of that additional $25 billion dollar loan.

They knew they should have stopped the gas guzzling SJVs more than a decade ago. Gas is going to hit $200 a barrel and then $300 and hydrogen Hondas have to search long and hard for the fuel they take and battery cars are way behind.

You will be paying $8-10 a gallon thanks to Bushenomics and Bush licking the butts of Saudi princes and OPEC.

*Meanwhile Norm Coleman will fail in trying to certify unofficial results in Minnesota. The canvass is legally mandated of course, and is by hand with less than .5% of the count that must happen before the legal recount will take place.

It has included correcting errors such as one town that didn’t call in results at all, and another where a typographical error cost Franken 100 votes. Inch by inch has been pushing against the incumbent Republican, and at least one person on the ground thinks that the reason for this action by Coleman is that Monday could dawn with him behind in the certified totals if the absentee ballots are counted.

Lillehaug, representing the Franken campaign, called the filing a “sneak attack,” during a press conference. The right wing Keep Out The Vote machine is going full court press to stop the legal count from completing in time for the November 18th certification of results, let alone the recount that would follow provided the losing candidate does not waive it. However, that losing candidate might well be Norm Coleman based on the numbers coming in from the canvass.

Leiberman will be stripped of the Homeland Security gavel soon.

Saxby is a snake, Jim Martin got my vote

By Chad Harris

November 8, 2008 7:39 PM | Link to this

Mr. or Ms. Broch—

You ought to do the monologue for SNL tonight. Checks and frigging balances—are you effing out of your mind? Bush and Cheney have been doing whatever the f**k they like with regards to hundreds of laws. There are nearly 1000 signing statements that say “screw the law.”

Read Jim Bamford’s latest book The Shadow Factory The NSA has deployed service men and women to listen in on the “talk dirty to me” conversations of civilians and then they pass them around (to get off I guess).

They have harvested your emails.

Cheney says he’s a 4th Independent Branch of government instead of a fat little guy who shoots people in the face. I’ve noticed that both moron Palin and Draft Dodger Cheney shoot unarmed animals. Cheney waddles out of an SUV and shoots turkeys whose wings have been excised.

Moron Palin uses choppers to shoot unarmed woofs.

If only I could arm these animals to get clean kills of these morons.

The only way to save this in the toilet government is to have a fillibuster proof majority and they should castrate Leiberman and put him in a trash compactor.

Don’t preach the Constitution to us with this 60 majority carp when Bush decimmated it. There are tons of books by constitutional law scholars on how this has been done. It will take a long time to put the Constitution back as was indicated in a cartoon in AJC the other day.

I don’t see how you think 60 will happen. If Stevens wins, they will eject him from the Senate in a snowbilly heartbeat. No Rethug is going on TV defending Stevens staying in. That leaves Palin free to resign and get her puppet the Lt. Gov. to appoint her Senator—she doesn’t need a runoff election to risk losing to Mark Begich.

That’s why it’s important and still possible for Begich to win.

We will take out Chambliss, but that doesn’t get us to 60.

Amazing someone who backs Bush, Moron, and erratic lying McPalin is worried about the Constitution—“checks and balances” who delusionally thinks that this 8 years has been anything about checks and balances. Unreal.

I purposely spelled “woofs” not wolves because there is little difference (I believe in evolution unlike the Wingnuts who think the Dinasours were there and then people just appeared—I know you Wingnuts don’t like science and you sure don’t understand medicine). Let me give you a quick example that has never been analyzed by Wooten or the infinitely smarter and excellent writer Jim Galloway.

Sonny Perdue is supposedly a licensed vet. I have great respect for most vets. Most of the meds that MDs use are tested in Mr. and Ms. Doggie. Sometimes they get them first to use after testing.

Perdue stupidly (forgetting any infectious disease he ever learned as a vet—if in fact he did) spent about 6 million or more bucks without consulting any MDs who had an IQ of 3 and bought Tamiflu to defend against pandemic H5N1 should it hit JawJaw and the South whose hospitals/government along with the feds are not the least prepared to handle such a pandemic.

The problem is that virtually none of the medical literature advocates such a stupid move. In fact, the infectious disease literature, and every leading med journal like NEJM, AJM, and scores of others publishes multicentered studies all the time that have prooved beyond a shadow of a doubt that Tamiflu and the 3 other analogues in its family only make resistance stronger and faster in an H5N1 pandemic. Tamiflu doesn’t touch H5N1’s mutations. Very few docs use it to treat ordinary flu because its above 30% side effect profile mimetic of flu symptoms and its $65 a week cost make it a rather stupid choice for a patient.

But that didn’t stop no science anti medicine Rethug Sonny did it down in dumb as a rock jaw jaw?

BB—

I have a list longer than your drive way of laws Bush has broken. It’s not going to happen with Dems whatever the number in the Senate.

Make the distinction between them all being politicians (which is true) and duplicating the destructive lying of Bush and Cheney.

And anytime you want to defend the choice of Palin or define victory in Iraq or be Sarah’s lifeline and distinguish McCain’s votes on financial market control from Bush’s the box is all yours.

As to President-elect Obama, he is the command-in-chief and as such you will respect him in all regards. His reference to Nancy Reagan was factual; she is a class A-1 nut job. As was her husband, Ronnie.

You and your ilk are the snake oil salesmen. You’ve sold lies just to get these Rethuglicons elected. Then they lied to involve us a reckless and unnecessary war. Also, about Rahm Emanuel as Obama’s CoS. The position of CoS needs to be someone that the President can trust implicitly and without hesitation and someone who has experience inside and it is especially helpful for them to have White House experience as well. This is why I think RE will be a great CoS for Obama. It would be hard to find a Republican that fit this criteria for Obama. To clear matters, I believe BOTH political parties are beholden to interests other than the Constitution (the SUPREME law of the land) or their constituents. And I agree with the poster who states that we NEED more than 2 political parties because right now it is the ELITISTS and MULTINATIONAL CORPORATIONS who choose who will “run” for President. I do NOT vote along party lines and would prefer to get rid of ALL incumbents (except for three) and start fresh. However I vote for those who work for THE PEOPLE, not the political party or the corporate handlers. Martin has faults, but he truly tries to vote for Georgia’s citizens and people in general! Saxby is a pure lapdog to Bush & the money, NOT the people!

The problem however also involves the arrogant, abusive, conceited people who lack the critical thinking skills to see through the BS of each of the parties and the snake oil salesmen such as Saxby Chambliss. He is a truly loathsome liar and thief, yet ignorant, brain-dead, racist bigots such as: Col. USMC retired; No Way!; tired of liberals; REALLY NOW; Get real; Michael K; Rufus; Eschol; Tarrant; truthteller; 17 yr-old moderate Saxby Supporter; Saxby for Salvation (A True Nut Case!); UGA 2003 mountain man (a HUGE pile of racist cr_ _; gafarmer; Burroughston Broch; ajc=liberal site; and lastly Gus; all fall for the lies and slogans, and can’t even see how it is detrimental to them and how it is going to shackle and kill their sons & daughters and all their progeny down the road!

Truly it is like it says in the bible, that in the last days people will love only themselves and money. They will be proud, stuck-up, rude…ungrateful, godless, heartless, and hateful. Their words will be cruel, and they will have no self-control or pity. These people will hate everything that is good. They will be sneaky, reckless, and puffed up with pride. Believe in lies rather than truth. Instead of loving God, they will love pleasure. Even though they will make a show of being religious, their religion won’t be real.

THAT my friends is what characterizes AmeriKKKa today! Even your pastors, bishops, deacons, etc. don’t mention those things or raise up their congregation in righteous indignation!! WHY???? Because of their LOVE OF MONEY RATHER THAN GOD!! If they do any of that the government, through IRS ‘regulations’, will take away their tax exempt status!!* THEY ARE DEATHLY AFRAID OF THAT PEOPLE!!! WE’RE KILLING MILLIONS, INCLUDING IN OUR OWN COUNTRY AND YOU ALLOW IT - ** YET YOU DARE CALL YOURSELVES ‘CHRISTIANS’!!?? What a mockery to God!

Anyone who quotes the bible loses the debate, no matter the subject, even if it’s a debate about God. Why? Because putting scripture in the premise and the conclusion of your argument is circular logic.

Most biblical babblers simply rant unreadable tripe, just like the 11:56 from duhng above. What a clod, honestly.

Jim Martin is against equal rights for GBLTs. I don’t see any purpose in replacing one bigot with another. GBLTs are staying home.

Where Saxby Chambliss (Socialist/RINO,Ga.)gets his money::

Agri Business—$1,368,000 Banks, Insurance, Real Estate—$1,332,000 Lawyers & Individual Lobbyist—$641,000 Misc Business —$679,000 Other —$606,000..

The Agi Business got a gift of $20 billion waste from the Saxby Farm Bill. The Banks, Real Estate & Lawyers just got a $2 TRILLION gift from the Bail Out the Wall Street act which Saxby voted for. Not a bad return on your money.

Why Saxby must stay? Fair Tax. What is Fair Tax? Eliminate the IRS and all income and whosale taxes with a simple sale tax that will fund Social Security, Medicaid, and all other government programs. If you are a real Republican you will understand that the way Barack Obama won was, with a Reganite type plataform, which is called a conservative populist plataform in fiscal matters. That was the intgention of the founding fathers fo the Republican Party, not the so called GOP.

Go to fairtax.org to find more. Use the internet to educate yourself as Lincoln did with books.

Why Saxby must stay? Simple, Fair Tax. Educate yourself go to FAIRTAX.ORG. Yes, is a 23% sales tac, but it will eliminate the IRS. That means no income taxes at include to include social security tax, medicare tax , employer tax, wholesale tax and more. Think about it this way, even the criminals that sell drugs, guns, pornography nad more, will be paying taxes. We, the middle class, will finally see a full paycheck, that means if I make $10.00 an hour and worked 40 hours, my paychek will be of $400.00, no deductions for taxes. Isn’t that the main issue for the GOP, cut taxes? Well, this will make it FAIR.

Those of you who are so hot on the “Fair Tax”. You have the perfect lab situation right now. Suppose the Fair Tax had begun in January of this year. Now, every economic indicator is down, and people are not buying anything except the absolute necessities (when they can afford them.) This means the Fair Tax would be bringing in much less than it would have, say 3 years ago. Yet, the people have the same needs, actually more needs(more would qualify for the maximum rebate), than they did three years ago during the boom, but we would have (what—25%?) less money coming in from the “Fair Tax”. How would those needs be covered? Y’know, things like roads and schools and vaccines and the service that takes the toilet contents out of your house and to a facility for treatment? Someone, please explain how (short of day by day fluctuations in the Fair Tax to account for periods such as the current one) the Fair Tax would take care of the needs of the people?

As to Saxby Chambliss: his days of living off the sweat of the people are numbered. Anyone who looks at WHAT HE HAS DONE THE LAST 6 YEARS would NEVER vote for him again. Ignore what he is telling you about the other guy, and LOOK AT WHAT SAXBY HAS DONE (AND WHAT HE TRIED TO DO) to you!

catlady:

People are not buying anything?

The fact is GDP was down just a bit which means that most people are buying a lot of things—just not as much as before. Been to the Apple store lately? There are usually lines. The stadium looked packed for the Falcons game. Lots of folks at the grocery store.

The fact is that under our current tax system, tax revenues are already down with Georgia ranking #4 in terms of percentage decline (WSJ). So to postulate that revenue would be lower under the Fair Tax is laughable. But, more importantly, who are you looking out for?

Most people I know aren’t so much worried about how government is doing—rather, they are interested in how their families are doing.

You must be a government employee.

Chambliss voted against protecting children from sexual predators. Saxby Chambliss voted against a package of 35 non-controversial bills on July 28, 2008, some of which he cosponsored, because his party leaders instructed Republicans to block all bills in the Senate. The bills Chambliss voted against, all but one of which already passed the House by huge bipartisan margins, had all been blocked by Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK), who was single-handedly obstructing nearly 80 bills - the most of any senator. The bills in the package covered a huge range of subjects, from protecting children from sexual predators to improving stroke prevention to expanding access to broadband internet services to helping victims of Lou Gehrig’s disease and paralysis. Some of the bills that Chambliss voted to block that would have protected children include: Drug Endangered Kids (HR 1199/S. 1210); Reconnecting Homeless Youth Act (S. 2982/HR 5524); Effective Child Pornography Prosecution Act (HR 4120); Enhancing the Effective Prosecution of Child Pornography (S. 2869/HR 4136); PROTECT Our Children Act (HR 3845/S 1738).

I love this. Even the people who are arguing FOR Saxby can’t come up with anything positive to say about him. They’re saying, “Sure, Saxby’s corrupt and incompetent and evil… but we have to vote against Obama and the Democrats! So vote for the terrible guy who’s done a lousy job, no matter HOW much we hate him!”\

Great argument. Very compelling.

In six years, Sen. Saxby Chambliss has spent billions in taxpayer dollars and raised millions more for his own campaigns. But for Saxby, being a Senator doesn’t have to be all work and no play. Fortunately he can lean on his leadership PAC, the Republican Majority Fund, to spend a little on himself.

A new study and video released by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee show that ever since Chambliss took over the Republican Majority Fund leadership PAC, the majority of the $1.4 million he has raised has not gone to Republicans. Instead, Chambliss spends the contributions by a nearly 4-1 ratio on entertainment expenses and overhead. While the funds have gone to help Saxby’s colleagues like Ted Stevens of Alaska and Norm Coleman of Minnesota, the largest single recipient of Chambliss’ PAC money was the Ritz Carlton Naples resort.

The Ritz Carlton Naples describes itself as a “breathtaking beach resort with a tradition of unparalleled luxury and service.” Its website brags that Saxby Chambliss and his guests could “delight in the best of Florida’s Paradise Coast [and] enjoy dazzling views of the Gulf of Mexico, warm golden sunsets and three miles of pristine beach.” According to the resort’s website, Saxby and his guests “could choose from seven unique restaurants, indulge in our luxurious world-class spa, or relax and enjoy our pools and beach activities, including a wide selection of water sports.”

Second on the list was the Boca Raton Resort, “an icon of elegance,” according to its website, and closely behind was Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mill Maryland, just a a short drive from Saxby’s office in Washington DC – a mega-exclusive private club limited to just 600 members.

If Chambliss wants to spend $50,000 relaxing in the Florida sun, that’s his business. But all this money has to come from someplace. As it turns out, the bulk of Chambliss’ PAC money comes from corporate Political Action Committees and corporate lobbyists – many representing interests he oversees in the U.S. Senate. Prominent contributors include:

Fannie Mae PAC $12,500 Chicago Mercantile Association $10,000 Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association $10,000 American Bankers Association $10,000 Bond Market Association $10,000

Chambliss’ PAC Took Over $500,000 In Special Interest Money Including Lobbyists and Wall Street Interests. According to FEC records the Republican Majority fund has taken over $500,000 in contributions from special interest PACs including lobbyists and Wall Street interests. [FEC.gov; Center for Responsive Politics]

During The 2007 – 2008 Cycle, Chambliss’ PAC Has Spent $207,955 Directly On Luxury Resort Getaways. FEC records show that Senator Chambliss used more than $200,000 to enjoy luxury and golf resorts across the country, primarily in California and Florida. FEC records also show that at times Chambliss’ RMF incurred the cost of using charter and corporate jets for travel to the golf resorts. [CQ Political Money Line, summary through 10/15/08, accessed 10/28/08]

Chambliss Getaways Are Rarely to Georgia. The Republican Majority expenditures include trips to Pebble Beach Resorts in Pebble Beach, CA; The Greenbrier in White Sulpher Springs, WV; The Breakers in Palm Beach, FL; the Ritz Carlton in Naples, FL; the Ritz Carlton in Greensboro, GA; Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mill, MD; Boca Raton Resort in Boca Raton, FL; Jonathan’s Landing Golf Club in Jupiter, FL.

Significant Chambliss PAC Entertainment and Travel Expenditures

Ritz Carlton Naples $57,894 Boca Raton Resort $34,595 Caves Valley Golf Club $32,210 The Ritz-Carlton Lodge $26,742 Ruths Chris Steak House $20,413 Pebble Beach Resorts $19,341 The Greenbrier $7,500 Belle Haven Golf Shop $7,087 Pasatiempo Golf Club $6,334 Jonathans Landing Golf Club $6,137 The Breakers Palm Beach $6,000 Monterery Peninsula Country Club $5,828 [CQ Political Money Line, summary through 10/15/08, accessed 10/28/08]

All of you that are bashing the fair tax have obviously not researched it. There are plenty of people spending money and even more would if they got their entire paycheck instead of what the government decides you should get. Each and every month a rebate check would be issued to every American household for the essentials. This would take the power out of the Congress and back to the people they are supposed to serve. That’s why very few of them (especially the Dems) like the idea. Before you knock it you should research it for yourself and not listen to what someone else is saying about it. Furthermore the tax system now is broke. It’s over 6000 pages. Does anyone have a better idea???

Article is Incorrect

The latest Secretary of State statistics on the vote totals show that Chambliss is only 8,493 votes from 50% +1. In order for the percentage for Chambliss to remain the same and the deficit to increase to 16,895 the vote totals would have to be 7.5 million votes instead of the 3.7 million that have currently been recorded. Do the math.

If the vote totals jump to 7.5 miilion then the Fulton County Elections Board (among others) are real cheaters.

Meanwhile we can correctly see that you are just a cheerleader for the Democrats who thinks that a slight increase of 123 votes (the diference between your published totals and Secretary of State’s totals) results in over 16,000 votes.

OK so Chambliss’s deficit is now a WHOPPING 621 votes greater than yesterday according to the Secretary of State’s tally and stands at about 9,114 from 50% +1.

Where did you concoct the 16,895 deficit that you proudly proclaimed in the article; from your “nether regions” I presume. Or perhaps you have premonitions of the cheating that the Democrats are trying in Minnesota and Alaska. Are there votes on the backseats of precinct captains cars or still in the store rooms of Fulton County? Why heck, I bet that not everyone lounging under a bridge in Fulton County has been counted yet.

You should go out and count them, too. Maybe some here-to-fore uncounted ballots are blowing around out there.
