The DSCC’s anti-Chambliss jingle: ‘Saxby economics don’t trickle down’

Remember the last U.S. Senate runoff between Democrat Wyche Fowler and an upstart Republican Paul Coverdell?

Coverdell had a terrible but resonating jingle by an elderly woman by the name of Margie Lopp: “Let’s put Paul Coverdell in the Senate and put Wyche Fowler out!”

Coverdell won, of course, and Lopp was given much of the credit.

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, on behalf of Jim Martin, has cut loose its own country music jingle aimed at Republican incumbent Saxby Chambliss. It’s called “Trickle Down.” Part of a $5 million effort to make sure Martin gets into a runoff on Tuesday.

Key phrase: “Saxby economics don’t trickle down on me.”

Don’t have time to transcribe it, but you can listen here.

The leftists had to resort to lying about Chambliss’s stance on taxation stating that he supports a 23% sales tax. But they purposely failed to mention that his plan would eliminate federal income tax, social security tax, medicare tax—ALL federal income and payroll taxes. In addition, the “prebate” would send citizens a monthly check to offset the sales tax on essentials such as food.

When politicians have to resort to outright lying about their opponents, it generally means they have nothing positive to offer themselves.

Jim Martin apparently has nothing to offer Georgians except a bag full of lies. I’m not a Chambliss fan, but by comparison he’s far superior to the hapless Martin.

How about the fact that the 23% itself is a lie? It’s actually 30%.

When I see Fair Tax advocates state a universal health care plan (government or private) that I can believe, and one that believes Bush should be impeached then I’ll pay more attention to it.

Saxby voted to hand $700 BILLION of OUR money to the felonious Wall Street “masters of the universe” on a bad plan that had zero chance of helping the general economy or us. That alone proves that he can no longer think clearly and is not qualified to represent the sane and sober people of Georgia. Martin’s ads are idiotic and he may not be any better, but Saxby has clearly disqualified himself.

JerryT,

You still haven’t read the Fair Tax book as I recommended. If you had, you’d know that you are using an exclusive rather than inclusive approach to the mathematics. The answer to your question is on page 153 of the book.

Remember Jer, hope is not a strategy and ignorance is not a virtue.

As to Chambliss voting for the bailout, I agree that it’s throwing our money (that we don’t have) down the drain. I wish that a real conservative would run against him—an anti-bailout, anti-illegal immigration candidate. Chambliss has to be dragged kicking and screaming to occasionally do the right thing. Isakson is the same way.

But Martin is a bigger joke and waste of skin. All he can do is repeat the libs’ talking points about “George Bush’s economy.” He believes the way to help workers is to punish their employers and to remove the investment capital from small business owners—which they earned.

Check out this very short video of a typical Obama supporter. Those People actually believe that if/when Obama is elected, they’ll no longer be responsible for their contractual obligations (car loan, home mortgage, etc.) Further, they believe they’ll no longer have to pay for things such as gasoline. I’m not making this stuff up and I know of 2 instances in our area where AA Obama supporters (redundant?) think they’ll be on easy street after the election.

Ahh yes, “outright lying.” What a deplorable tactic.

Like claiming Obama is a sleeper Muslim, or that he plans to take the oath of office on the Koran and refuses to say the pledge of allegiance. Or saying he’s a socialist.

Like trying to link veteran Max Cleland to Osama bin Laden. Like setting up robocalls in 2000 about McCain having a “black bay.” Or claiming that Bill Clinton’s an unconvicted rapist and that Hillary’s a murderous lesbian.

Yeah, telling incomplete facts about an actual ISSUE in a 60-second sound-byte commercial sure is villainous compared to that, isn’t it?

There is an anti-bailout, anti-illegal immaigration, anti-special interest candidate in the race. His name is Allen Buckley and he’s running under the Libertarian banner.

Interestingly, there’s an exit poll up at Daily Kos that has Allen polling 5% of the early votes. 5%. Can anyone say Run Off?

I urge anyone who has yet to cast their ballot to vote for Allen Buckley when you step into the voting booth on 4 NOV 08. A vote for Buckley is a vote for post election prosperity! Vote Allen Buckley for the US Senate!

Huckleberry, as a true conservative, I agree with a lot of what you say. But even kicking and screaming Saxby can no longer distinguish Right from Wrong. I am voting “none of the above”/Buckley in the general. The bitter pill will be having to vote for the dem in the runoff. Martin may be far from ideal, but he is the best Georgia can realistically offer this time. We need to work together for better options in the next election when it is time to bring Isakson home.

The Republicans in Washington are doing nothing for the middle class. Especially for Saxby, it’s all about helping his rich business pals and then shielding them from losses with our taxpayer money. I surely didn’t see any of their profits, but now my tax dollars are going to cover their losses. What a sweet deal they have with Saxby, who then picks a moral wedge issue (or flat-out lie, like saying Martin was “fired” by Perdue) to hide behind. The irony is that Saxby and his pals are the truly deceptive and immoral ones. On the other hand, Dems aren’t nearly as selfish usually look out for average Americans. The most ignorant people I know are hard-core Republicans, yet they’re the ones who could most benefit from Democratic policies. It’s sad, but I guess they get what they deserve - a financial beat-down - from the very same people they hold in such high political regard.

Having listened to a boatload of campaign spots for both Saxby and Martin, there is no escaping the conclusion that neither candidate has been truthful. This is a typical senatorial campaign where sleeze rules.

But the fault is not entirely with the candidates. People apparently respond more to negative campaigning than they do with positive messages. Professional wrestlers should tune in so they can learn to talk real trash.

I’m voting for Martin because he’s a democrat and I believe ultimately that’s he’s better for Georgia than his opponent who has supported a gormless president far too much. I also still haven’t forgotten the dispicable attacks he made on Max Cleland.

Chambliss: “The Other Folks Are Voting”?

HP-Via John Cole, the Politico reports on Georgia Sen. Saxby Chambliss’ candid assessment of what motivates Republicans in his state:

The Republican is outwardly confident, but there’s urgency in his voice as he tours North Georgia, trying to boost turnout in his predominately white base: “The other folks are voting,” he bluntly tells supporters.

Just in case anyone was confused about who those “other folks” are, Chambliss gave this quote New York Times:

The development is not lost on Mr. Chambliss. “There has always been a rush to the polls by African-Americans early,” he said at the square in Covington, a quick stop on a bus tour as the campaign entered its final week. He predicted the crowds of early voters would motivate Republicans to turn out. “It has also got our side energized, they see what is happening,” he said.

Representative Henry A. Waxman, who is leading a House investigation of the financial crisis, asked nine big banking companies on Tuesday to explain why they are paying billions of dollars in compensation and bonuses after they accepted cash injections of $125 billion as part of the government’s $700 billion bailout program.

“While I understand the need to pay the salaries of employees, I question the appropriateness of depleting the capital that taxpayers just injected into the banks through the payment of billions of dollars in bonuses, especially after one of the financial industry’s worst years on record,” Mr. Waxman wrote in letters to the chief executives of the nine banks, which include Citigroup, Bank of America, Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan Chase.

“Some experts have suggested that a significant percentage of this compensation could come in year-end bonuses and that the size of the bonuses will be significantly enhanced as a result of the infusion of taxpayer funds,” Mr. Waxman wrote.

Mr. Waxman asked the banks to provide considerable details on their employee compensation, especially for people paid more than $500,000 a year, from 2006 through 2008.

On Sept. 25, as the world financial crisis escalated, two of New York’s most powerful lawyers met for lunch in a restaurant near Wall Street with a name that recalled happier times: Bull Run.

They were Michael J. Garcia, the United States attorney in Manhattan, and Andrew M. Cuomo, the state attorney general. Both men’s offices have histories of moving aggressively against financial fraud, and of vigorously defending their turf when other prosecutors try to compete for their cases.

But over lunch, The New York Times reports, Mr. Garcia and Mr. Cuomo reached an unusual agreemen. They will investigate jointly the shadowy world of credit-default swaps, the $55 trillion market in unregulated financial instruments at the center of the meltdown. Soon, both men’s top aides were hammering out details of the cooperation in an eighth floor conference room in Mr. Garcia’s office in Lower Manhattan.

Unfortunately for the rabid, angry conservatives, this election is about more than incorrect arguments regarding taxes(made by people who seem to have a rather dubious understanding of economic policy), and more about helping the middle class of Georgia. Jim Martin isn’t as charismatic as Saxby. He’s not a good ol’ boy. But he’s smart, ethical, tough, and cares about the people of this state, which is a lot better than a porker like Saxby who cares more about his golf clubs than doing his job.

Jim Martin’s going to win.

In the words of Bill Clinton in Atlanta the other night, “The people of Georgia understand…fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice….”

Republican Honeycutt, those that “think like you” can change BUT “those that look like you” are ALWAYS going to look like you ESPECIALLY to those that “think like you” So be careful what you wish for.
