CNN/Time poll: Broader turnout throws U.S. Senate race into a runoff

The team of CNN/Time/Opinion Research is out with a three-day-old poll on the U.S. Senate race in Georgia — leftovers from the survey that gave us Georgia presidential stats on Wednesday.

Click here to download the memo.

The good thing about this survey is that, again, the CNN team measures both “likely” voters — i.e., those with a history of participation — and registered voters. So you have performance in a restricted, more traditional pool of voters, and then a larger one that could reflect the uncertain demographics of this voting season.

The bad thing about this survey: It does not include Libertarian Allen Buckley by name. Which at this late date could be important.

Among 690 likely voters, Republican incumbent Saxby Chambliss leads Democrat Jim Martin, 53 percent to 44 percent, with 2 percent choosing “neither.”

But among 907 registered voters — that larger pool — the contest narrows and appears headed for a runoff, with Chambliss at 48 percent and Martin at 47 percent. Again, an important 2 percent choose “neither.”

In both scenarios, the polling margin of error is plus-or-minus 3.5 percent.

Makes one wonder, what they assumed for turnout out among registered voters.

This shows you the pro-government nature of our state-controlled media. There are only 3 candidates running for the US Senate in this state. A fascist/socialist who voted to destroy the US dollar and bring fascism and socialism to the finaincial industry, a socialist whose only good qualification is that he did not support the bailout, and Alan Buckley, who based on his stands on the issues has a lot to learn about libertarianism, but who at least would vote for smaller government.

And yet, only two names are mentioned. It will be this 3rd candidate that will throw this race into a runoff and yet they are so afraid of the ideas of the Libertarian party - you know, small government, individual liberty, personal responsibility, military non-interventionism, and freedom, that they can’t even mention his name.

T would encourage a vote for Buckley if nothing else to send a message to the losers that control this country that Georgians are not going to oppose a measure and let their worthless Senator vote for it.

If Martin does not close the deal on election day, Saxby will win. The blacks will not show up in large numbers on run-off day, as compared to how they will show up for Obama. Saxby is going to get reelected.

Saxby is by far the better choice for GA. Saxby is better than that Reid, Peloi clone, Martin. Martin is too liberal for GA.

I note with interest that only 4 comments have been posted here. I suppose the astroturf campaign is winding down as we approach the election

I can understand that, the days are long, the work is important but the rewards are meager.

It is disheartening that this late in the race there are still people who can not spell Allen Buckley’s name correctly. I suppose the fact that no one’s calling him Tom or Steve is positive. As far as learning about Libertarianism, it’s an individual effort. There is no manual to refer to. That’s the beauty of the Libertarian Party, it’s a cacophony of ideas, energy and an absolute determination to speak each individuals mind.

When you talk with people in the Libertarian movement you hear old words. Powerful words. Words like Honor and Duty and Right and Wrong. You hear the conviction in their voices and you see the steel in their eyes. They believe in those words as they rail against the established order with no true prospects of success.

It’s contagious, that’s why I’m here at this late hour asking you to cast your vote for Allen Buckley for US Senate on 4 NOV 08.

19 out of 20 people you talk to will tell you that you’re wasting your vote, they’ll tell you that voting Martin or Chambliss is the smart vote, the needed vote, or a vote for change. Libertarians would tell you to vote your conscience.

Vote Allen Buckley for US Senate.

The early turnout, the enthisiasm and history making is all well and good. However the Secretary of State karen Handel is in charge of elections and she is the Republican vote fixer in chief. Her job is to by whatever means possible keep the poor, blacks, and otherwise Democratic voters from having their votes count. Karen Handel will do the bidding of the racists, bigots, gun-nuts and polluters on Tuesday.

If Saxby looses he has only his sell-out vote for the Wall Street bail-out to blame, i.e., HIMSELF. Jim Martin is just another socialist, but doesn’t look that bad in the company of Saxby the bail-outter. I’ll vote for the Libertarian. No matter which RepubliCRAT wins, the Sovereign State of Georgia looses.

GOP = Big Government + Big Spend + Big War. Why would anyone vote for Saxby and more of the GOP and their anything goes philosophy? Not anyone willing to stand up for America and its values.
