Marshall decides to play in the Atlanta media market

Jim Marshall must have money to burn. Either that, or the 8th District incumbent’s congressional campaign lacks common sense.

In the past week, the Macon Democrat has ordered more than $210,851 in 30-second spots to air on Atlanta TV stations. That means viewers all across north Georgia can see them.

But Marshall’s message matters only to voters in four counties: Butts, Jasper, Newton and Monroe. The 18 other counties in Marshall’s central Georgia district get their TV feeds from Macon and Albany.

Gerry Mander from the 14th district spent 350 dollars on minimum wage sign schleppers with his image and name. He’s ahead in the polls by a percentage well within a standard deviation from the mean margin of error even if you drop the two anamolic extremes on either end of the spectrum of the emblematic, stereotypical, poster child epitome of those polled which, as everyone knows, is mostly hockey moms who are no longer in the coveted 18-49 year old age demographic but who still wear spandex……ew.

His opponent still expects to win. Politics is about positive thinking in spite of the polls. it’s about how you look while you’re saying the opposite of the reality. It’s about circus-ring bling.

Marshall has the money advantage over Goddard so it makes sense to use that advantage. Meanwhile, the northern counties are up for grabs. They were in Collins’ home area last time, but Collins is no Goddard fan. Another benefit for Marshall: more statewide recognition for a possible statewide race at some later time.

I’d think a little more deeply before suggesting that Marshall lacks common sense. There’s little indication of that in his political history — unless you want to say that it lacks common sense to run as a Democrat against the tide in a strongly Republican district. If so, then he’s got uncommon sense.

The Atlanta TV stations are available to all viewers in Marshall’s district if they have satellite TV via Direct TV or Dish network. this is probably what Marshall is considering because sateliit is now very popular in rural areas.

Perhaps Marshall should start advertising in Chicago and New York, since a good bit of his rural district has access to those stations by satellite.

My parents in Hall county (north of Lake Lanier) are getting Jim Marshall ads they live two congressional districts north of him.

Oh the powers of incumbency.

Bill Jones is running against Tom Price in my district and has been airing ads for 3 weeks and it never made Political Insider.

Subject Line : Beat Long Poll Lines with Absentee Ballots from StateDemocracy.org

Many state and local election officials are encouraging voters to use Absentee Ballots to avoid the long lines and delays expected at the polls on November 4th due to the record-breaking surge in newly registered voters.

Voters in most states still have time to obtain an Absentee Ballot by simply downloading an official application form available through www.StateDemocracy.org, a completely FREE public service from the nonprofit StateDemocracy Foundation.
