David Scott on his black GOP opponent: Honeycutt ‘doesn’t even seem to like us’
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
David Scott is suggesting that Deborah Honeycutt doesn’t like black people.
The Democratic congressman on Wednesday released a blistering radio ad highlighting Honeycutt’s Republican party label and her opposition to Barack Obama.
“Worst of all, Republican Honeycutt doesn’t even seem to like us. And she certainly doesn’t want to be around us,” states a narrator in the ad.
Scott and Honeycutt are both African-American. So are a majority of 13th District voters. The district is also overwhelmingly Democratic.
But Scott supporters worry that many voters aren’t aware of Honeycut’s GOP party affiliation, according to my AJC colleague Ben Smith, who’s been covering the race. They accuse Honeycutt of trying to dupe them into casting ballots for her by veiling her true political leanings in campaign mailers and cable TV ads.
The Scott campaign has already filed a formal complaint against Honeycutt for paying for a flier distributed by a group called “Democrats for Good Government,” instead of putting the flier in her own name.
The radio ad contains remarks Honeycutt made at a recent press conference, when the candidate told reporters she supports John McCain for president, even though most voters in the 13th District probably don’t.
“I would rather be with someone who shares my same values and principles than be with people who might look like me that I have nothing in common with,” says Honeycutt in the ad.
The Honeycutt campaign plans to hold a press conference on Thursday to respond to the ad.

Honeycutt would be disastrous for the 13th congressional district. She says shie has family values—but advocates the government should not ensure children have healthcare. And, that’s a doctor. Than she says she is for Clayton County’s children’s education—when in fact, she is for vouchers and home schooling. If she were elected—she would try to take all funding from public education and give in to private interests. She says she is pro-life, when in fact she is just pro-birth. Why care about the child after they get here? Don’t provide health care, don’t fund public education and please just tax the middle class. A northerner with northern ideas. Dr. Honeycutt is so family—she has no children! What money she has raised from poor old white ladies all over the country espousing a so-caled “Christian Values.” Jesus provided for the downtrodded, you believe no deserves a chance except rich doctors and Wall Street bankers. Since you have endorsed John McCain and the entire district voted for Obama—you are the one out of step of the constituents of the 13th district. Shame on you Dr. Honeycutt.

Oh boy…isn’t Scott saying that Honeycutt isn’t black enough?
MLK’s dream of not judging by skin color seems to have a way to go… I just decided who I am not voting for Tuesday. David Scott.

It’s a pity Mr Scott has to revisit the same old tired rhetoric that is used against all African Americans who are Republicans. That is at least until they come out and endorse a Democrat. Anybody remember all the names they called Colin Powell? How about the Oreos they threw at Michael Steele when he was running for governor? The message is clear and just the lowest form of intimidation. To me it shows just what a strong woman she is. She knew she would face this sort of attacks and yet she had the courage to stick to her convictions and beliefs. Good for her. The only reason their aren’t more African Americans in elected office is because of this very reason. Until people break this mindset of skin color determines political party it will always be that way. The African American community is not well served by this sort of behavior either. Why does the previous poster fear vouchers and home schooling? Maybe independent dem is a teacher and sees this as a threat to their job. If he/she feels that McCain supports Wall St does that same logic apply to the overwhelming number of Democrat congress members who voted for the bailout? Does it extend to Chris Dodd and Barack Obama, the two congress members at the top of the list as receivinb contributions from not only Fannie Mae but Countrywide as well?

Did you listen to Honeycutt? She said she basically does not agree with African American values. She also said in a mailer that she would fight Obama. She also mocked the civil rights movement.

Here is what her campaign has to say about Atlanta civil rights leaders:
http://i-newswire.com/pr205562.html
“i’m not going to sit idly by and let the Democratic Party pimp us. It’s been happening for years. What I am ashamed of is John Lewis and Andy Young, who used to be champions for the underclass, and now they’ve gotten so fat as Democratic leaders they think Democrats are more powerful than God. I don’t care what they say. All they have is their own self-interest. They haven’t done anything since the 1960’s. They’re in bed with the same Democrats who beat them over the head and hosed them; the same people who pimped them then and are pimping them now!” - Andrew Honeycutt, husband and campaign executive.

While I am a staunch Democrat who has voted down the line accordingly over the past 20 years, I plan to cross party lines by voting for the one (Republican) exception, Dr. Deborah Honeycutt, and strongly urge all of the people in the 13th District to do the same! David Scott is quick to attack Dr. Deborah Honeycutt, but his political hot talk is just that…MERELY PROPAGANDA TALK! I am embarrassed to even ask, “WHAT HAS DAVID SCOTT DONE FOR ANY OF US HERE IN THIS DISTRICT OR FOR METRO ATLANTA AS A WHOLE SINCE HE’S BEEN IN OFFICE? Not a dan thing! As someone who was raised in the northeast part of the U.S. & relocated to Georgia 25 years ago, I can honestly say he and his brother-in-law John Lewis sure have made a good life off of all the gullible-a* people in Metro Atlanta, because if they were running for office in a northern city/state their behinds would’ve been voted out of office a long time ago! All David Scott & John Lewis ever do is tap dance around the SERIOUS issues affecting every community: such as fighting to create equal employment opportunities for persons “formerly convicted” of felonies (many which occurred over two decades ago); realistically addressing the growing homeless situation across Metro Atlanta, and advocating for the elderly population (which is a group most have totally forgotten)! If David Scott, John Lewis & the likes developed the backbone to address these particular issues maybe our crime rate would drop because people would develop a sense of worth; homelessness would decrease & our elderly would feel appreciated instead of being cast aside like yesterday’s news.
WAKE UP PEOPLE!!! Get David Scott out of there! VOTE FOR DEBORAH HONEYCUTT!!!

I seem to remember that the Georgia black Republicans decided not to back Honeycutt for these reasons. This article explains their broken relationship with her:

She’s a flat-taxer too, but doesn’t even know how it would work. Which actually makes sense because it won’t. But she advocates it anyway. Check it out here: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/stations/HeadingLeft/kudzu/2008/10/26/Kudzu-Vine
Eliminate the IRS? OK, who collects the taxes? The Sales Tax Revenue Service? Whatever.

Black liberals only have one button to push: The one that screams “racism.”
It’s laughable (and tiring) when they push this button against black opponents. But as I said, they only have one button to push.
Regarding Dr. Honeycutt being a “flat-taxer”, I believe she supports the Fair Tax which differs from a flat tax. Steve Forbes and others support a flat tax.
Just because you don’t know how the Fair Tax works doesn’t mean that Dr. Honeycutt also doesn’t. Seems to me that a person who can master a medical education and engage in a medical practice can handle the concepts of the Fair Tax—but can you??
Dr. Honeycutt has expressed the following: “I believe that our current tax system does not meet the standards expected by Americans. I have examined alternatives and found the FairTax to offer the best hope of returning our tax system to our constitutional principles, providing both increased fairness and dramatic simplification, as well as positioning this country to continue to prosper in the increasingly competitive global marketplace of the 21st century.”

Generalizing about all Black liberals behaving the same is the racist attitude. Black people are just like you and me in that some are mean, some are nice, some are beautiful, some not so much. Fat, thin, smart, dumb, rich, poor, famous, anonymous, lazy, productive, almost all the things that define Black conservatives, White liberals, and white conservatives also apply to Black liberals.
OK, I’ll use Unfair Tax instead. And I do know a little about how it doesn’t work. And I don’t deny that Dr. Honeycutt is probably capable of understanding it, it’s just that she apparently hasn’t chosen too… and yet she endorses it anyway! What does that tell you? She’s repeating talking points being given to her by someone else. Don’t believe me? Listen to the clip I linked to.
I’m amazed that conservatives support this farce because it is a serious deviation from one of the main tenets of conservatism; this plan centralizes and expands the federal government even more. All these taxes currently being collected and disbursed by counties and states would be sent to the Feds for disbursement? Yikes.
No, this is yet another attempt by conservatives to starve social programs that feed poor people and provide health care for sick children and build schools and libraries and clean up toxic waste. The idea is to be able to deny states the ability to spend money on things that conservatives don’t like. Can’t win in the marketplace of ideas, so they’re going to try to fake us out with this scam.
The thing is, this idea was hatched when conservatives arrogantly thought they would be controlling government for the foreseeable future. Y’all should be jumping off the Unfair Tax bandwagon about now because you sure don’t want Democrats with that much power over state budgets. We’ll be funding campfire sing-a-longs before you know it!

OK, I have to admit I was confusing elements of wacky Glenn Richardson’s state sales tax plan with the so-called federal “Fair Tax” plan. So let me comment more accurately on the federal plan: 1. The tax rate is actually 30% since the proposed law says you get taxed on the tax you pay, so add 23% to your total purchase and tax THAT total at 23%. Just another way to lie. 2. The “Fair Tax” website claims it will generate more revenue than current taxes. If that’s not a tax increase, I don’t know what is. 3. It’s way too volatile. We can see how volatile with recent gas price and home price fluctuations. Prices go up, we stop buying. Prices go down, we buy more, but a tax based on a percentage of $5 is less than a percentage of $10, so we still set aside less money to pay for schools and roads and bridges and hospitals.

JerryT Before you dig your hole any deeper might I suggest that you go do some reading on the Fair Tax instead of merely repeating talking points you picked up somewhere. The Fair Tax does not replace anything the state is doing. It does in essence do away with the IRS as a government institution that can use force to come after you to pay taxes or threathen you. Unlike the ads currently running it is not an additional tax, like the Dems make it out to be, rather it replaces a lot of the current taxes you pay and that are taken out of your pay check. How would you like to take home all of your pay instead having the gov’t dip in and take 25 - 30% of it before you even get it? The plan includes rebates to handle neccesities like groceries and gas and utilities. None of the state revenue gathered by taxes is bundled up and sent to the feds for disbursment. If states have their own tax plan fine, that money stays in the state. For a party who has a candidate campaigning on a platform of change the Dems sure seem pretty resistant to change.

Dr. Deborah Honeycutt has been libeled by the David Scott and Democratic Congressional campaigns. She represents all Georgians in her district, and believes in the FairTax as a way to strengthen our economy and bring jobs back to the US. If you haven’t read the FairTax book, you can’t comment on it.

How wonderful that we can all express our own opinons on this subject. God Bless America. Having said that: We have personally been ignored by David Scott and his staff when we brought an issue to them that concerned people in his district. They even had the gall to ask what race the individuals needing the help were. We aren’t going to get anywhere in the 13th district or America until we stop letting someone’s race make our decisions. Deborah Honeycutt is a human being first and formost. To misrepresent her and the FairTax to uninformed voters is playing dirty. To once again, pull out your over-used race card is also playing dirty. But Mr. Scott has more than just his district to answer to for playing dirty. In his last ad he says that “with God’s help” we can win this election. He needs to be real careful when he wants to align his dirty politics with the Creator of the Universe. He may have more than losing his district seat to worry about.
