Was McCain smitten by a pretty face?

Kathleen Parker, a conservative columnist for the Washington Post, has already expressed her skepticism about Sarah Palin, the Republican nominee for vice president.

She goes a step further here:

[T]here can be no denying that McCain’s selection of her over others far more qualified — and his mind-boggling lack of attention to details that matter — suggests other factors at work. His judgment may have been clouded by … what?

Science provides clues. A study in Canada, published by a British journal in 2003, found that pretty women foil men’s ability to assess the future. “Discounting the future,” as the condition is called, means preferring immediate, lesser rewards to greater rewards in the future.

It could just be that Sen. McCain made up his mind months ago to listen to the campaign consultants he inherited from George Bush. They told him to go for Bush-in-a-skirt, so he did.

Maybe what he had in mind was a return to the days when the Vice President got to go to funerals and rubber chicken dinners so the President didn’t have to, and so picked a running mate with talents to match those responsibilities. But we shouldn’t overthink. I like the “let’s do what the consultants want” theory, because it explains so many other things McCain has done this fall.

To think he pays these people to give him advice like this. Not as much as Gov. Palin’s hairstylist, but still.

The conservative columnist makes quite a statement about the judgement of a candidate for President whom Georgia is about to cast a majority of votes for. She also makes quite a statement about a candidate who questions the readiness of his opponent.

Talk to me about the greatness of America and I’ll listen gladly. Talk to me about the duty of citizenship and I’ll listen submissively. Come talking to me about the benefits of electing John McCain and I will suspect that you don’t understand.

President Bush’s former Press Secretary has also made quite a statement about John McCain…he’s supporting Obama.

Scott McClellan, who was Bush’s chief spokesman from July 2003 to April 2006, said he’s always planned to support the candidate that has the best chance for changing the way Washington works and getting things done.

In the final stretch a goodly number of people are seeing the light. Why does the dim cloud maintain such a strong grip over Georgia?

I have said she came to be picked because she held a trump no one else had: she had obviously refused to abort a retarded child. No one else, no matter how “pro life” could trump that.

Her great figure (how so soon after birth?) didn’t hurt, however.

The Republican men I know are also smitten. While I concede that she’s beautiful, with a certain spunk (but not too much independent thought!) they find endearing, I’m aghast at how quickly they defend her utter disregard for intelligent discourse. “She was just explaining it so a third-grader could understand,” one told me. “The word ‘preside’ is confusing.” Are they seriously excusing a complete falsehood about the such an important job expressed unapologetically by the job seeker? And what is to ge gained by dumbing down America’s children even further? The VP is NOT “in charge of” the Senate, even in Cheney’s sick fantasies, and the Constitution does not “offer more flexibility” on that!

The times and our circumstances are too precarious for you to think with your smaller head on something this important. Use the big one now, and let the smaller one decide something less critical, please. Thank you so much.

Nonetheless, it is still sexist bullcr_p! To be sure, I am angry with my former party. They haven’t merely squandered an opportunity, they are foisting an empty suit, no heavy lifting, candidate on us.

Why aren’t we discussing zerObama’s covered up, long-time history of radical-socialistic ties?

Why aren’t we discussing zerObama’s deep and tangled ties to ACORN? Voter fraud. Campaign and Federal money fraud. Complicity in the housing crisis.

Why aren’t we discussing the dozen issues that OPRah (Obama, Pelosi, Reid a55h0le5) have double crossed progressives and conservatives on?

I suppose it is time to sic zerObama’s planned Civilian National Security Force on me, pack me off to a reeducation camp.

Why wait until I am totally ‘confused’ about how The zerOne reacts to some unspecified ‘international crisis?’

@ Jealous Woman

How about that $140,000 faux-greek column setting paid for with your and lobbyist money? Coooooool.

Did you pay attention to where Governor Palin shops for her children and herself? Did you pay attention to what she plans to do with the wardrobe when finished with it? Do you know how much Obama, Biden, or the like pay for their wardrobes? Last month, blue-dog idiots were talking ‘pretty but frumpy.’

Are you happy with the misogyny, racism, elitism, and thuggishness of demoRAT party, even to their own?

By Women Know

October 25, 2008 3:09 PM | Link to this

Misogyny? You mean like rolling your eyes, sneering, and doing finger quotes around the words “woman’s health” while millions of Americans watch? John McCain knows that the “health of a woman” is not important because if your wife DIES or is permanently damaged or disfigured while performing her reproductive obligations, she can be easily replaced with another who is YOUNGER, BLONDER, and RICHER. John McCain approves that family value. Makes you proud to be a man, huh?

By old91A10

October 25, 2008 4:24 PM | Link to this

@ Women Know

I am a proponent of a woman’s reproductive rights, but I am not a single issue voter as you seem to be. And, I would never put party before country.

For decades there has been a Conservative Judiciary that could have killed Roe vs. Wade, but it hasn’t happened. In fact, that Conservative Judiciary arose with something bordering on acclamation by both parties (and I screamed bloody murder about it — hmmm, to self: interesting choice of words).

You are blindly marching with and touting a radical socialist, a misogynist, a racist, a liar, a thief, and a thug,

Obama and the DNC (and seemingly the entire Democratic Party) have double crossed us on a dozen issues — some, irreversibly undercutting The Constitution of the United States.

This calls for checks and balances. Fortunately, separation of powers will do the trick. Supposedly, a strong Democratic majority in the House and Senate should take care of what you feel the country needs — but, they have proved otherwise — time for a sharp stick in their eye.

Obama and Biden are slime — they will fix nothing — the Democratic Party will continue in a perfidious downward spiral.

McCain and Palin have demonstrated that they will buck their own party, they will cross the aisle, they will cut wasteful spending, they will fight corruption. I am quite sure that they will clean up their party faster than Democrats will. This is a man Feingold would choose to climb the steep hill and fight the tough battle with.

Their proposals do more for the common person and the entrepreneur — healthcare, taxes, advanced studies, energy independence and alternatives, and more.

Obama paraphrase: “stop giving money to the rich and give it to the ….” Crap from the little red book. How did that work for the USSR and China?

Setting aside the greedy executives, the market manipulators, the inside traders, “stop giving” is a blatant deception. The people he is excoriating “earned” their money, and do contribute to the national wealth through jobs, taxes, and reinvestment.

Over three-quarters of them are involved in small business — you know, the stalwarts that see us through thick and thin, inflation and recession — the innovators, the doers, the ones to seek opportunity. They will suffer under the Obama-Biden mantra.

Obama has been steeped in radical socialism his entire life. This is not guess work. His spoken words and vanity publications demonstrate it. The dots are easily connected in spite of his records, transcripts, writings being hidden.

A vote for Obama and Biden is a vote for Ayers, Dohrn, Farrakhan, Wright, Pfleger, Caldwell, McClurken, Daley, Lippert, Rezko, Blagojevich, Auchi, Johnson, Raines, Pritzker, Groelich.

Watching the GOP implode and starts the blame game while their steely grip is being ripped from POWER is analogous to Charleston Heston “FROM MY COLD DEAD HANDS” Palin is indeed a bad judgement call on McCain’s part but also he has no NEW ideas and would be serving Bush’s 3rd term. People can see through the BS when their pocket books are being ripped apart because of these past atrocious policies of the Bush years that were supported 90% of the time by McCain.

Is there any truth to the rumor that Obama had a crack cocaine induced gay sex affair with a limo driver named Larry Sinclair in 1999, in Chicago. How about the rumor that the Clinton camp started in New Hampshire that Obama sold cocaine to his roommates and others while in college? How about the rumor that Obama sat in an anti-American church for 20 years lapping up the hate speech like a lap dog of Satan? Is there any truth the rumor that Obama helped train and legally represented ACORN in hopes of making voter fraud a regular part of the American Presidential election cycle. Is there any truth to the rumor that Obama is a Muslim and joined a “Christian” church to further his political goals?

Since we are guessing what McCain has been thinking and projecting our theories on him, I thought it only fair to do it to the Messiah, the most Lefty of Lefties, the Chosen One, Our Hope and most Changeable, Obama.

I don’t think that she was brought in just because she’s pretty. I mean, even though they dressed her in clothes, hair and makeup that totals over $150,000… And when they asked McCain about it, he said “She needed some clothes.”

Oh, and that her hair stylist makes more money than her foreign policy advisor. Her being pretty is really not the reason why she is the nominee…

Wow, and I thought all the wingnuts lived over on Bookman’s blog! Looks like they save the nuttiest of them for Political Insider.

Or maybe it’s just silly me, fooled by the same wingnuts using different posting names? Ya think?

The raving paranoia about the Democrats winning the Presidency and larger majorities in Congress is amusing. My gosh, you might think that half of our country is composed of seething, closet socialists, yearning to be free. Not even close, folks.

See, the Republicans were fine when they held all the cards. That didn’t turn out too well, I might add. There has been some interesting discussion on the web by some (true) conservative pundits about how the Republican Party has disintegrated, lost its way, sold itself out to the extreme right wing, and now must find itself again, redefine it self again. That will be a good thing. As one of the regulars on Bookman’s blog signs off…. “God, I miss the real Republicans.” Indeed.

And God help whoever wins this election. They will have not only the great good pleasure of attempting to build consensus with these “nattering nabobs of negativism” that inhabit this and so many other blogs, but the incomprehensible tasks of righting this massive, diverse, MULTIRACIAL, MULTICULTURAL, MULTI-RELIGIOUS ship of a country that is the United States as it is now, not as it was in 1980.
