Lawmaker inundated with pleas to stop Troy Davis’ execution

A Republican state lawmaker told the Insider late Wednesday that he’s received 4,000 e-mails in the last 24 hours requesting clemency for Troy Davis — basically shutting down his computer at the state Capitol.

He assumes that other members of the Legislature are in the same fix.

Davis is scheduled to be executed Monday. His attorneys are seeking permission to file a new federal lawsuit based on innocence claims.

Please give this man another chance to prove his case it is so much not answered and the state of Ga wants to put this man to death, If you do that and 6 months later you find this man is innocent then you can not go back and bring him back. I like thousands of other people beleive this man is innocent, please listen to our pleas and cries, go back over this with a fine tooth comb before make a drastic decision.

If there is any doubt of this man’s guilt. The death pentalty should be revoked at once. No one should be going through this if the crime is in doubt. If anyone comes forward to say that he or she did not committ this crime. 7 people say that he did not commit this crime. That should be enough to say that they are some doubt to this man doing this crime.

I am for the death penalty for murder, but not when a person is in doubt of doing the crime. Do not carry out this execution until you know with out all certain that this man did not commit this crime.

Sounds like this should have further scrutiny. Especially with so many recanting. Now if it turns out the witnesses are falsely recanting, then punish them severely. Lastly, instead of acting too quickly with this individual, take quicker action say against someone with tons of current witnesses and video evidence against them and execute them. Can you say Brian Nichols, good night.

Which lawmaker? What is he doing about it? What kind of poor writing is this?

Everyone should go to www.usa.gov/Contact.shtml and write to their elected officials, I have.

It is sad when the US looks like a middle eastern or communist nation. Who else executes possibly innocent men.

If Troy Davis dies without being able to question the people that admit lying during his trial, it will be a truly sad day in American History

He should be dead and farting dust already. The only reason he is alive is because he is black. If this were a white guy, he’d be in hole packed with sawdust already. Same with Brian Nichols and his bs claims of being a slave and thought he was killing slave masters. The NAACP and other black community orgianizers are the only groups of non-uprights dumb enough to beleive these claims. It’s always the same crap with the comminity organizers who try to get money and attention from cases such as this because they’re too lazy and too stupid to get a real job. Now we have to deal with that nasty greased hair Al Sharpton in this city getting his band of idiot project dwellers all up in arms over ” dem killings an innocent blacks man..” Give me a break you idiots. Next ACORN wil be here protesting. You don’t see this crap in Idaho. Kill him, kill him now, kill him.

Why don’t blacks, libs and gays find a better cause that this? Blacks will do anything to save one of their own, even if he just killed their family they’re on the news 15 minutes later saying they forgive him. Libs….they are for anything out fo the norm and the gays, well they must think he, as black man, has a big one.

I believe strongly in the death penalty, and so, when I first heard about this case, I was generally unsympathetic.

Then I learned of the considerable evidence that he is innocent. The witnesses who claimed he did it have now said that they were pressured by the state to lie. For the state to execute an innocent man is, in my view, one of the most vile things that a state government can do. SAR, Ed, why must you make it a racial issue? It has nothing to do with race. It has to do with not wanting the blood of an innocent human being on the hands of Georgia and, by extention, Georgians. There are few better causes than that.

Have you seen one black person or a “civil rights” group defending Brian Nicholls? I is absolutely clear that he killed those ppl. Troy Davis is different. Witnesses have recanted. I would prefer the judicial system take the tiem to find out the truth and then kill him if he’s still found to be guilty…..Now that’s comes from a black man.

SAR,

Do you suffer from penis envy? Your quote: “”Libs….they are for anything out fo the norm and the gays, well they must think he, as black man, has a big one.”“

I’ve heard some pretty outlandish reasons to not vote for Obama but you certainly get first place. Congratulations!!

Oh, and speak up, you’re kind of muffled speaking through that sheet.

Killing a possibly innnocent man is a cause worth fighting for. Put yourself in his shoes, what if you had been wrongly accused, but there was a substantial amount of evidence against you, but you have 5 witnesses that say it was not you, what would you want to happen? I’m not saying he’s innocent or guilty, but until we have all of the facts, we should not kill this man. Your comment was very insensitive. Its 2008, at this point in time, we are all a “CAUSE”, and we should all support each other. It’s the Christian thing to do. Not the black thing, gay thing, white thing or liberal thing!! Its the HUMAN/CHRISTIAN/GOD ORDERED THING TO DO!! Now get off your HATE BOX, and be about the Lord’s work-get out from behind the walls of your churches, and get about the Lord’s business, which is not attacking each other, spewing hateful remarkts to/about each other. If all of you that claim to be Christians were true Christians, the world would not be in the state that it is in right now. By now, we should all be accepting of each other, faults, differences and all.

This case has been through all of the legal channels, and has had numerous judges look at these claims of innocence. None of them have believed the recanters. That speaks volumes to me. I believe in giving a criminal all of his rights of appeal, and Davis has had them. Now, carry out the verdict.

I have lived in North DeKalb for almost twenty years. I cannot turn on the news without hearing about two or three murders in this county, daily. This week was the first time in 20 years a person was sentenced to death in DeKalb. With all the hundreds, maybe thousands of murders that have taken place in DeKalb none received the death penalty until this week when the man who killed his wife and two sons with a claw hammer was sentenced to death. How do you explain this? Also, with all the shennanigans that have gone on with the Nichols trial, the planned escapes, the hidden cellphones, don’t think it’s not possible that he walks. This is Atlanta folks. Where else but Atlanta could a man go on a killing spree in a courthouse full of police officers, kill several people and walk away. As far as Davis goes, the courts sentenced him to die and die he should. Have you seen the so called witnessed that recanted their stories? Most look like crackheads you can’t trust farther than you can throw them. Again, there’s no mercy for the victim that we know was killed all the mercy is held for the killer. If some of you want to save something worth saving, go to the animal shleter and save a dog or cat, they’re far better deserving of saving than this cop killing murderer. To blacks trying to stop this; good God people, clean your own crime and drug infested blights on the city you call your hoods up before you spend any energy saving a cop killer. You all have much bigger worries than this.
