Disrespectful treatment of a flag, or not?
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Shades of the lapel-pin debate. The campaign of Barack Obama passed us the video below, taken of John McCain’s troops allegedly breaking camp in Missouri on Monday.
It shows a huge American flag dropping unceremoniously to the ground, and a lone worker beginning the process of packing it up.
So far as we can tell, the video was first posted on Americablog:
“It matters to us because it matters to them,” writes John Aravosis, a D.C.-based author, political consultant, and — needless to say — Democrat. “If John McCain, Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachman and the rest of the Republicans are going to walk around boasting about how they’re better Americans than Democrats, better Americans than Barack Obama, then their party needs to stop treating the American flag like a used Kleenex.”
The Insider awaits your response.

Obama is an anti-American. The man blames this country for everything evil in this world. Hey Jim can we talk about what that idiot Joe “Plugs” Biden said about the country being attacked if Obama, god forbid, is elected.

Why does the insider try to ignore mistakes made by the left. A giant flag is on the ground. Or the Democratic vice Presidential candidate makes a huge gaff and the Insider goes with the flag story. You media types are not even to try to hide your bias anymore. Do the “journalist” that run the insider even attempt to “fair?” Or are you guys out of the liberal closet for all to see?

Could you define “gaff”? It just sounds stupid when wannabe journalists pick up jargon and try to use it. The word, such as it is, is “gaffe.” It’s right up there with “vetted,” another over-used monstrosity — when “evaluate” would be a hole lot more better.

Sorry. A gaffe is a stupid, idiotic comment that clouds a message. The best Gaffer out there is Sen. Joe “Plugs, the dumbest man in the US Senate,” Biden. A gaffe is also similar to foot in mouth disease. Another one that frequently does this sort of thing is Harry “The Body” Reid D-NV.

Roll that beautiful bean footage of how the Democrats treated the flag at their convention. They only used the flags on one night as props and all of them wound up in garbage bags, thrown on the ground to be walked on and left in the dumpsters. Of course they have yet to explain the picture of William Ayers walking on a flag. Faux outrage from the left over treatment of the American flag is about as hypocritical as you can get.

This sounds like the supposed ‘story’ about all of the flags ‘improperly’ disposed of after the Democratic convention.
Which turned out to be a LIE.
Obama is not anti american.
Republicans are anti American because they put Party First, Country Second.

It is racist to bring up how democrats treat the flag. It is racist to critize Democrats. It is racist for John McCain to even run against Obama.

There wouldn’t be entire books written about Bushism’s if he weren’t the country’s biggest gaffer. My favorites

Obama had a drug induced gay sex affair with a limo driver in 1999. The man is named Larry Sinclair. Obama has never denied the affair, he has just attacked his former lover. Obama is not the kind of Change we need. A vot e for Obama is a vote against real, normal American values.

Do John McCain, Sarah Palin or conservative republicans respect the moral foundations of our country? The U.S. Constitution is abused by conservative republicans at every turn.
U.S. Constitution: Amendment I - Freedom of Religion Because of conservative republicans, your tax dollars are funding religious groups you may not agree with. To add insult to injury, conservative appointed judges have ruled that you do not have a right to challenge this expenditure.
Amendment IV - Search and seizure Under the guise of court action against abortion, Conservative republicans had John Ashcroft subpoena all the medical records of literally thousands of women like you and members of your family. Conservative republicans invade your privacy every day by browsing your email and phone records. Unfortunately for all of us, they don’t appear to care about our U.S. constitution, and they certainly don’t care about your privacy.
Amendment X - Powers of the States and People John McCain and conservative republicans have tried consistently to overturn States Laws. They used your hard earned tax dollars to destroy the will of the people of Oregon, and the famous “Death with Dignity” law; they lost, but undoubtedly will try again. Conservative republicans and John McCain do not respect States Rights. If your state votes for something conservatives don’t agree with they will use federal powers to overturn it regardless of how you and your fellow voters feel.
Amendment VIII - Cruel and Unusual punishment Would you rather die, or support a government which supported and sanctioned torture? The founding fathers would rather have died. The founding fathers were proud to fight and die for our government: A government which specifically outlaws cruel and unusual punishment. Conservatives don’t agree with this philosophy. Conservatives are at odds with our founding fathers on this score, and too many others to count.
John McCain, Sarah Palin, and the conservative republicans have already gone too far in destroying the moral foundations of our country. I urge you to keep this in mind in the coming election as we rebuild our nation together by voting for Obama, who stated that in his first 100 days he would eliminate all of Bush’s unconstitutional signing orders as a start.

I would never tolerate our flag being disrespected. It is an insult to me and I certainly would let my displeasure be known to anyone who allowed this treatment. Further, in all of the speeches and campaigning and sponsoring of this election, in this economy, when America needs to be remotivated, where are our beautiful patriotic songs and music? Religion is scoffed at. Christmas is forbidden, (except for retailers, who will not permit their employeees to utter that word). I have no intention of being gracious about any of that crap. Merry Christmas and God Bless America.

Yes, Joe Biden is an idiot. I loved it when he asked that guy in a wheelchair to stand up at a rally in MO. Joe Biden is rude to the handicapped. Joe Biden is a tool. Joe is so inept they have pulled him off the stump ad sent Madeline Dulbright, who is the ugliest woman I have ever seen, to defend Biden’s stupid remarks. Remind me again why Obama did not pick Hillary Clinton, her thighness, to be his running mate.

I’m a Democrat and a staunch supporter of Senator Obama; but this is just absurd. This is just as stupid as the McCain camp’s attack on American flags being “mistreated” at the Democratic Convention.
BUT, I do love reading these blogs to observe these self-righteous bigots screaming about Bill Ayers. Ronald Reagan’s good friend and major contributor, Ambassador Annenberg funded the organization at issue; are you suggesting that he is “anti-American?” Also, I suppose that the Presidents of major universities and businesses on the same Board are “anti-American?”
John McCain served on the Board of a strict Anti-Communist organization in the 80’s said to have anti-Semetic ties by the ADL. But, no one is absurd enough to suggest that McCain is an anti-semite.
The vaunted Gov. Palin’s husband was a member of the Alaskan Independence Party. And she sent a message THIS YEAR to their “convention” supporting them. Don’t believe me watch the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmYqRfp6-x8
Palin supports a group founded by a man, Joe Vogler, who said “the fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government. And, I won’t be buried under their damn flag.”
So, who’s “anti-American?”
Just because you are a Democrat or live in a city or don’t shoot wolves from a helicopter, does not make you “anti-American.”
You idiots are just as stupid as the lunatic fringe on the left who called President Bush a war criminal. Barack Obama will be the President of the United States. Just as you encouraged people to show respect for George Bush and the office of the president - do the same for Barack Obama. Or, at least have the courage to admit why your hatred is so virulent you cowards.

I want to know what prescription medication McCain takes. One day he’s angry, the next day he’s practically a zombie. Seems like they must be having trouble getting all the dosages in combination worked out.

As a soldier having given a widow her husband’s flag I kind of understand what it means to veterans and their families.
So…
Lets see, a bunch of extra Chinese made plastic flags that were never used were inappropriately discarded in the trash and a loyal Republican got them out to rub in the Democratic Party’s face.
Now a fine over-worked Republican campaign worker cannot properly handle a Garrison Flag that per the US Army requires ten people: two on the halyard and eight flag handlers. But he is not military so he is governed by federal regulation, 36 USC 176,” that covers use and display of the U.S. flag by civilians, civilian groups, and organizations are governed by:
No disrespect should be shown to the U.S. flag; the flag should not be dipped to any person or thing. Regimental colors, State flags, and organization or institutional flags are to be dipped as a mark of honor. a. The flag shall never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise. b. The flag should never be fastened, displayed, used, or stored in such a manner as to permit it to be easily torn, soiled, or damaged in any way.
Now which is the worst case: the sloppy convention planner who ordered too may little flags and did not properly dispose of them or the Betsy Ross wrapped contingent who for years have claimed they want a Constitutional Amendment to ban desecration of our national flag?

Personally I don’t feel you can disrespect a flag. It’s an inanimate object, mass produced and devoid of feelings. People spend more time worshipping the actual object rather than trying to live up to the ideals it represents.
Having said that, it’s absolutely fair for the Obama campaign to nail the McCain camp on this issue. They are the ones who are always trying to guage one’s patriotism using stupid indicators such as whether or not someone is wearing a lapel pin. So the idiots get what they deserve.

Funny how the democrats regained control of congress nearly 9 months ago and talked such a big game about how they would improve America. Our economy is in the toilet, we’ve started to lose the battle in Afghanistan and gas prices went through the roof. Are they going to get off their butts and reinforce that tough talk from 9 months ago? Maybe Sentor James Webb can answer that.
