SNL takes on the vice presidential debate: “Are we not doing the talent portion?”
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Finally discovered the flaw in Tina Fey’s impersonation of Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin. The real governor of Alaska winks with her left eye.
This one also takes a shot a moderator Gwen Ifill (Queen Latifah) and her forthcoming Obama book.

Ah yes, SNL is in the tank for Obama, but then again, so is the rest of the so-called mainstream media. The NYT has become nothing more than a leftist blog.

that’s cool the first female president of the United States of America needs to have a good sense of humor and Tina Fey should help to keep here humble.
I love to see that look of fear the Obamaites have when they hear about Palin.

Palin didn’t respond to questions; she merely regurgitated talking points. She is manifestly unqualified to be anything other than head of the PTA. And, her ‘Joe Sixpack’ nonsense, while an apt description of her secessionist husband, decidedly does not square with a family like hers, which has a net worth of $1.2 million and and annual income of $250,000.00.

Do you guys work for FOX? You would allow your racist views to override common sense? McCain allows Bush to eviscerate him in SC and say he has an illegitimate black child and call his wife a drug addict…then you hire those folks to run your campaign? I have no respect for that.
Face it, you didn’t like McCain either, but you had to accept him because your scattered party nominated him. Oh, and Palin, you can’t be serious. There isn’t enough time or space here to talk about how inept she is.
You guys remind me of an embarrassed parent who knows their child is a total screw-up, but you can’t give them away. You have to smile and bear it. Just like those parents, when you go home and close the door, you curse your situation.
The reality is: you are being left behind. While it is sad, this country and the world will be better off for leaving you.
So long, suckers!

To say “SNL is in the tank for Obama” and the NY Times is a leftist blog is so completely ignorant. You’ve got 24/7 Republican radio on the AM dial and Fox news which are more dedicated to the Republican party than Pravda was to the Communists. To paraphrase Ronald Reagan, anybody who can make it in the private sector would not get into government. He lived that way, as do the talented people on SNL.

If it is OK to say that Obama hangs out with Terrorists, then its also OK to say that Palin hangs out with Traitors.
Her husband is a prominent member of the Alaska Independence Party which believes in breaking away from the United States of America. Palin gave a positive opening statement at their party convention.

And so Obama’s 150 days of service in the US Senate, where he has failed to introduce any meaningful piece of legislation somehow makes him more qualified then a lady who has been commander-in-chief and an executive? I fail to see the logic of your argument. Obama is nothing more than a self proclaimed community organizer.

For those of you, Jeff, and all others who think the “mainstream” media are not all in the tank for Obama are high on your left wing weed. Mainsteam media are the national networks ABC, CBS and especially NBC. You could also throw in CNN, although they at least carry a little balance, unlike the national big 3. If you’ve seen any Late Show with David Letterman lately, almost his entire monologue is devoted to delivering sexist put downs on Sarah Palin. I wrote them and said since Dave has decided not to remain neutral in the election, I have decided to switch to Jay Leno…although the NBC execs have decided to run him off because he doesn’t subscribe to their left wing philosophy. It is crystal clear that the left (mainly the far left women in the D party) fear Sarah because she represents everything they are against and because the USA containes a hell of a lot more women like her (Sarah) than them (leftist liberals). If your political views mirror socialism, time for you to use the freedom you have here in the USA and leave it for Canada, France or any one of a handful of other European countries. Arrivaderche…

Oh please. The left has been and whining about everything during the years of GOP control (which is 8 years for those of us who can count.)
The media is indisputably dominated by the left. If you want comedians and partisan “journalists” choosing our Presidents, you will be happy. Personally, I’d rather voters be able to make up their own mind, but I am old fashioned.

This is funny! Saturday Night Live has a history of making fun of political candidates. Get a sense of humor, Repubs! Yes, they are often biased toward liberal candidatesm, though they make fun of the liberal candidates, too. It’s a comedy show, not a news program. Sarah Palin needs to buck up, take the heat both in the comedy medium and in the news medium, do her homework, and answer the questions she is asked (not simply only the ones she wants to answer). She is proving that she does not have the knowledge nor the stamina for the race or for the job.

Yes McCain is a POW hero, that left his maimed wife once the “marerick” hero returned. Yes, the honest “maverick” is a cheater, lier, and just the type of red-blood American we want as an example to follow.
This “maverick” picked a running mate who is a “redneck” and talks like one. Has little to no experience outside her little town of 3,000 (we have high schools bigger than that), and her state of 600,000 (my county is bigger).
Yes, McCain’s limited elite world filled with millionnaires, and Palin’s limited “redneck” world, makes me defintely want to vote for these two “marvericks.” I guess if you are rich or a redneck you will fit right in to both their worlds. I’m a life long Republication that is now voting as a Dem. I can’t really identify with the elite, and I sure don’t identify with “rednecks.”
But I do identify and agree that we Americans need change right now, and those two losers McCain/Palin, sure as heck will not bring change for the better. What a joke they are, and you don’t even has to watch SNL to see that!

The Obamaites want the election battle to be on oratorial skills, while the Macainees want a patriotic show. I want new, fresh blood, not a born to be bred into office, “king” of America.

Wow…this got stupid very quickly.
The mainstream media would be “in the tank” for the GOP if they would raise their standards.
I understand the frustration the GOP is facing. They do not have what they want and are embarrassed that they shot themselves in the foot with Bush 43’s presidency…along with the 108th and 109th Congresses.
Get over it guys. Obama is not a muslim, nor is he a terrorist, nor is he a racist. He does not want to raise taxes.
Palin is not qualified and was brought on purely to get votes…not because of a “country first” ideology. McCain is too old and has been part of the problem since the late 1980’s (google Keating 5) and make your decision.
Fact is…the GOP relies on “the people” being stupid and being easy to scare.
That’s ok…the Democratic party has proven that is can be relied upon to fix the mess the GOP inevitably creates…whether it is a Depression, recession, deficit, or what is going on now.

McCain, well he may be the Manchurian Candidate for all we know. Someone that doesn’t know how to use email doesn’t qualify to run the Free World. I say we all write in Ross Perot. Wow! There was no way Tina Fey could turn down this assignment. As someone else just said, she doesn’t even have to breathe hard to pull this act off.
Now, for the the more serious issue. I challenge anyone who is really thinking about this situation to compare most of Biden’s answers to Palin’s and honestly say she won the debate. Let’s even take out our feelings about McCain and Obama, just for fun.
On the economy, Biden presented a clear (if general) plan to deal with the economic crisis and how best to proceed with a bailout. For example, he mentioned oversight of the banks and corporations, eliminating bonuses for fatcat CEOs of failing companies, etc. Palin said something about not doing business as usual and being mavericks. Sorry, that doesn’t add up folks.
On the issue of healthcare, not only did Biden decribe McCain’s plan FOR Palin, he also talked about some things that are lacking in today’s healthcare system and helping average people afford coverage for basic procedures and care. I can’t remember at this point everything he said but I know there was some presentation of ideas there. Again, Palin contributed nothing substantive to this part of the debate.
She also steered the coversation to education at one point and then proceeded to describe her family’s (and Biden’s family’s) tradition of being educators. As as educator, I was really hoping she’d throw me a bone here, but none was forthcoming. As for the “shout-out” to the third-grade class… If Obama had done that, many Rebublicans would be calling him low class and common for doing that.
What she did contribute were a few talking points about the war, Israel, and energy issues. Unfortunately, memorizing a few things and talking on and on about them as opposed to answering a range of questions on the spot does not a debate winner make.
As catlady said, I’m insulted that McCain chose THIS women as his ace in the hole. There are clearly other Rebublican women politicians out there who would have been great choices as a VP pick. Why this woman with her lack of ideas and political and personal baggage? Did he just want a mouthpiece and not a truly qualified and thoughtful female running mate who would have brought some substance to the ticket? Was he afraid that another stronger female running mate would outshine him? Is it too late for him to select another running mate? Maybe for his sake she’ll graciously step down, citing governmental and family demands. Things that make you go hmmmm…..

Please read all of this before you pass judgement… Obama is inexperienced, but the key is that during his few years in the Senate he has voted more times as “Present” than “yes” or “no” in the Senate. In other words, during his time to grow in experience he was basically doing role call rather than writing, pushing for or against, or even voting for or against legislation. Furthermore, he has surrounded himself with guys like Jeremiah Wright (black liberation theologian), Aires (former terrorist leader), Raines and Johnson (leaders from fannie mae who made significant contributions to Obama’s campaign), not to mention friends like Louis Farrakhan. These are the facts… yes obama is a new, charismatic face on the political scene, but you have to take this stuff into consideration… He hasn’t been around long enough for any of this dirt to stick to him yet, so you have to do the research. He hasn’t been around long enough, considering his poor company and shotty voting record, to be trusted. We do need change, McCain is a reformer, Obama is the most liberal democrat in the Senate, he isn’t going to go across party lines to bring this country back together. McCain is a moderate conservative, he has bled for his country, crossed party lines, and Palin isn’t from washington, and she has executive leadership as a governor, unlike Biden or Obama… For those of you who don’t know, Obama grew up going to a Muslim school, his biological father was muslim, and he sat for 20 years listening to a anit-american, separatist comments without a word at Trinity Church… This country needs more tolerance, I’m all for something other that a white male for president, but we can’t trust Obama yet. Don’t give your vote to him, there’s been too many questions left unanswered.

I’m votin for John McCain and Sarah Palin. He is a genuine maverick. She is too! He is smart and tough. She is too! They are the only candidates who are not afraid of getting into deep details about their plans. The Democtats are afraid to discuss theirs. During the debate, Governor Palin showed that she is articulate, witty, folksy, and absolutely brilliant. Joe Biden was completely stumped and could barely respond to all her facts. On the issues, it is apparent to all intelligent people that Sarah Palins knows a great deal about every issue. She is Einstein compared to Senator Biden who clumsily attempted to defend Senator Obama’s indefensible postions. Senator Biden would not even admit that Senator Obama is a terrorist! Now, how is that for honesty. Nor would Senator Biden admit that the Democrats want to turn our government into a Socialist society by involving the government in the private sector. Every smart American knows that Sarah Palin demolished ‘Ole Joe’ in this debate. Case closed!!

I just had a revelation or an epiphany just now. I read quite a few of the Hard Right comments and it hit me that there’s no sense in getting upset with them or even thinking to respond. First there’s the reality that not one of them has two IQ points to rub together and second I will take pleasure in hearing them grind their teeth for the next eight years just as I’ve had to do for the last eight.
The only question I have is whether eight years is enough time for President Obama to undo the damage that President Bush did.

Yeah. That’s Sarah Palin. Articulate, Folks and Witty.
Uh huh.
Its easy to be articulate, folksy and witty when you only want to answer questions you feel like answering.
“Please read this”, yeah I read that. McCain has been in the senate this year less than Obama or Biden has. You don’t even pay attention. You just hear what you want to hear.
Republicans are just phoning it in to America. They don’t care about America. They just wave flags but don’t WORK to make America better. They sit down, shut up and do what they’re told.
Patriotism is about making America great BECAUSE it is great, not because you SAY it is great.
People who vote for McCain and Sarah Palin don’t really care about this country.
I don’t care what Obama says. You CAN attack someone’s patriotism. Attacking Max Cleland and then turning around and saying ‘McCain bled for this country” shows what hypocrits you actually are.

The responses on this site are absolutely hilarious! I wasn’t aware that so many people are so funny or just plain ignorant and unable to do simple research on facts. Palin has been very dishonest about Obama’s ties to Ayers, and it’s been refuted by numerous media outlets (I’m sure they are all in the tank for Obama, right? If they weren’t, they wouldn’t report actual FACTS). Why don’t you do a little research on your own and find out the facts instead of allowing pill popping Rush, perv O’Reilly and the rest of the right-wing blowhards tell you how to think. You might actually learn something along the way. Try snopes.com sometime.

Another thing, I bet Joe Biden and Barack Obama are serial adulterers. I bet the liberal media hasn’t even checked to see how many affairs these immoral men have had. It wouldn’t surprise me because that’s what Democrats do!!(ie..Bill Clinton) What’s more is that Barack Obama has had questionable conversations with that Raines fellow who was in charge of Fannie Mae. Now how proper is that? These two candidates on the Democratic ticket are as sleazy and immoral as Al Capone and yet the liberal media completely ignores it. Liberals always ignore what is conveniently ignorable. They won’t ever report anything improper about the Democratic candidates. The only fair media coverage on television is Fox News! They are fair and balanced. The other channels are just campaign extensions for Obama.

Worst case scenario: McCain has serious health issue or passes away. Who’s in charge? Palin. But, who will really be calling the shots? If you vote for McCain/Palin, you’d better give serious thought to who will really be running the show. She would be officially in charge but clearly doesn’t have the intelligence to pull this off - like Hillary or Condoleeza would. Do we know or trust who she would get her advice from? I would certainly trust Biden to be in charge.

Obama for President= Republicans are racist? Ok, but Obama is clearly not, after all, he made the comment “typical white woman” while talking about his grandmother. Clearly that doesn’t demonstrate racism. The fact that he associates himself with a racist pastor (whom he calls a mentor) does not also demonstrate racism. I am SO sick of black people accusing white people of being racist, but clearly deny that they are also racist themselves.
Your statement about Republicans is as prejudiced and biased as it gets. Your beloved Obama, the one who terrorists such as Ahmendijad, Chavez and others are so giddy to endorse, should concern you.
I am a Republican because I still believe that America is a great country and I do not believe that the govt. should coddle us. Everyone has an opportunity to do or be anything that we choose. We should not expect to have money taken from the rich and given to the poor. Countless millionaires have grown up in absolute poverty and worked their way up the social ladder of success.
Research the Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac debacle and you will see Obama’s ACORN involvement in it. But yet, he is the one to restore our economy? Funny how annablake calls everyone else ignorant regarding Obama’s relationship to Ayers. Either she is as dumb as a brick or a liar. Obama has defended his relationship with Ayers many times but I guess she missed that. Let’s also talk about the lies that Biden put forth in the debate. Did she miss those or more likely, she just believed them to be the truth. Biden said McCain voted “the way Obama did” on a budget bill. Wrong! Obama also accused the US military of killing civilians and acting recklessly and Biden supported that statement. We have learned to laugh at ourselves for the past 40 years. Hell, Johnny Carson taught us how to do that.
The difference is that we don’t have a lot of respect for half witted comedians and the credibility that slobbering democrats give them.
What you don’t realize is that we are laughing at you. How do you like $4/gal gas? Considering who has been in charge in Washington for the past two years, we think it is hysterical.
How do you like double digit inflation?
Georgia becoming Soviet Georgia again?
The “bailout” that will be the big excuse that Obama will user to raise taxes on EVERYBODY. (Remember how long Clinton’s tax cut promises lasted, once he was in office)
Got health insurance? We all will have health insurance, except the middle class and older Americans that need it the most. They will be paying for everyone’s health insurance, including their own.
Bend over America, the democrats are in charge.
And we think that is hysterical that most democrats are just too ignorant to understand why they have been having massive problems because the democrats have controlled Washington for the past two years.
Now THAT is funny.

Before you Democrats get entirely to comfortable with your lead in the polls, just remember; there are some events that could cause American voters to change their minds. Here are some: 1. Obama could be indicted as an ax-murderer. 2. Joe Biden could be indicted for accepting a 10 billion dollar bribe. 3.Obama could slip up and say that, indeed, he is a terrorists and that he plans to nuke New York, Chicago, Detroit, Cincinnati, Miami, Carson City, Reno, St. Louis, Columbus, Raleigh, and Virginia Beach. 3. Obama could possibly reveal that he plans to ditch Social Security immediately and permanently. 4. Obama could announce his plans to cut off all aid to Israel. 5. Obama could announce that he will double the taxes on Democrats. 6. Obama could announce that he will quadruple the troop stength in Iraq and that they could be there for a thousand years. 7. Obama could announce that he intends to start new wars with Russia and China, simultaneously. 8. Obama could announce that he changed his mind on health care and that everyone, including children will have to fend for themselves, kind of like it is now. 9. Obama could offer all Mexicans unfettered entrance into the United States. 10. Obama could announce that he is going to ignore the Constitution and make Islam our national religion. It is entirely possibly if all of these events occur, and all Republicans believe they will, that John McCain and Sarah Palin will win this election.

Not all Democrats are uninformed, but most are.
Not all Democrats are unpatriotic, but most display the signs of being such.
Not all Democrats accept donations from corrupt companies, but some do:
Top 5 Recipients of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac Campaign Contributions, 1989-2008
Dodd, Christopher D-CT $133,900
Kerry, John D-CT $111,000
Obama, Barack D-IL $105,849
Clinton, Hillary D-NY $75,550
Kanjorski, Paul D-PA $65,500
Wow, the top five are Democrats? 3 of 5 have actually run for President within the past 4 years? I see a connection here, do you?
Here is also a link to Obama’s connection to this crisis: http://www.mediacircus.com/2008/09/barack-obamas-fannie-mae-freddie-mac-connection/
You can also go on YouTube and see Barney Frank, along with many other Dem’s, testify in Congress in 2004 that there were no problems at Freddie Mac/Fannie Mae.
Bush called for reform in these 2 organizations multiple times in 2003 to no avail. He foresaw the crisis that we are seeing today. When are Democrats going to stop blaming everything on Bush and point the finger back at themselves?

The News’s Logic:
Sarah Palin is a governor. It is her job to take money from the Federal Government.
So that is why she can say how proud she is about turning it down.
The News’s statement:
“You’re stupid for not looking something up!”
But then when he defends an obvious pretzel logic statement he deliberately contradicts himself and presents the illusion of competence. Just like Sarah Palin.

Brad used a three syllable word!
Careful Brad, remember that you’re in the party that discourages ‘elitism.’ Obama is bad because he is too well informed and too smart for stupid people that like to watch fox news.
Of course Palin’s intelligence is something critics argue about. One side says, “She’s stupid” and the other side says, “Nuh uh!” And then shows them the note written in crayon given to them by Ann Coulter that proves it.
And as for links:
I don’t see you providing any links Brad. Furthermore, I don’t waste my time fighting a battle of wits with the uniformed. I’m doing this purely for personal enjoyment.
I actually read news from multiple sources. But by your definition the ‘mainstream media’ are all liberal, therefore all my sources (ie real ones) are not to be trusted. Conversely, it appears that most of your sources of information are generated by talking points created by Karl Rove and Matt Drudge.
See, I’ve played this game before. I give a link, then you say, “AHA! I counter with Talking Point #101!” And possibly provide a link of some kind to counter it.
As for being out of my league, I find that unlikely.
Anyone who supports John McCain cannot possibly be in my league because “my” league includes people capable of rational thought instead of spewing whatever random talking point someone like Morph created.

the real winners of Palin’s VP pick are the writers at SNL.. Palin should get writing credit on the show as she practically faxes it in each week.. the skit was right on target and the best of the season. The sad part is how many Republican robots don’t see anything wrong with the words that tumble forth from her mouth. She is a “marketing gimmick” the same one that Rove used to make people comfortable with Bush so they would “want to have a beer” with him. Well the rest of us are still suffering the hangover from your beer..please be smarter this time and realized you were fooled last time ..once you can be forgiven..but twice..then you are just a fool..

Wow. if this were a middle school playground, you would have won.
But it’s not.
List my quotes that you used. I didn’t see a single one.
You listed this:
The News’s statement:
“You’re stupid for not looking something up!”
You even put quotes around it and I never said that. How old are you?
Now that we have that straightened out, lets have those bills that you claimed that the Republicans blocked that would have fixed our country.

Aaron Burr- I provided this link: http://www.mediacircus.com/2008/09/barack-obamas-fannie-mae-freddie-mac-connection/. Or are you not aware of what a link is? You are certainly not making a viable case for your supposed intelligence. Essentially the same issue that your candidate has.
I have not disclosed who my “sources” are. I actually hear supposed “facts” from both sides of the aisle and then research each one to find out who is wrong or right. McCain is not perfect, no candidates are, but the ideals that he has for this country are in line with mine. Frankly, Obama scares me because of his associations and his stance on important issues.
This is a man who voted “present” more times than rather voting yes or no on issues. Indecisiveness is not a good quality for a Commander in Chief. That job requires logic and the ability to make a sound decision. Whether or not you like W (I will go out on a limb and assume that you do not), is not a reason to assume McCain is the same person.
At this point, I think evil will ultimately prevail over goodness (as in Obama defeating McCain). There are too many in the press determined to destroy the Republicans as a whole. And there are too many Democrats who cannot see the forest for the trees. This is unfortunate to say the least. So you may indeed get your wish, but be careful what you wish for. Maybe this will be the wake up call that you need.

News: I paraphrased.
Bills the Republicans Have Blocked: SCHIP, Numerous amendments on HR 1585 because of Timetables, The Emmitt Till Unsolved Crimes bill – Which would help heal old wounds and provide the Department of Justice and the FBI tools needed to effectively investigate and prosecute unsolved civil rights era-murders.
The Runaway and Homeless Youth bill — Which would provide grants for health care, education and workforce programs, and housing programs for runaways and homeless youth.
The Combating Child Exploitation bill – Which would provide grants to train law enforcement to use technology to track individuals who trade child pornography and establish an Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
Note: CCE is Senator David “I Like Hookers” Vitter’s bill to fight child porn which Republicans just filibustered.
The Christopher and Dana Reeve Paralysis Act – Which would enhance cooperation in research, rehabilitation and quality of life for people who suffer from paralysis.
Coburn put a hold on every single one, and the GOP filibustered the omnibus containing them, in addition to all of these bills which belong to actual Republicans:
Senator Thad Cochran - Stroke Treatment and Ongoing Prevention Act (S. 999/HR 477) Sen. Christopher S. Bond - Vision Care for Kids Act (HR 507/S. 1117) Sen. Sam Brownback - Prenatally and Postnatally Diagnosed Conditions Awareness Act (S. 1810/HR 3112) Sen Domenici, Pete V - Mentally Ill Offender Treatment and Crime Reduction Reauthorization and Improvement Act (S. 2304/HR 3992) Sen Lugar, Richard G. - Reconstruction and Stabilization Civilian Management Act (HR 1084/S. 613) Sen Coleman, Norm - Torture Victims Relief Reauthorization Act (HR 1678/S. 840)
Note: The irony of Norm Colman’s bill is obvious, given that the United States tortures prisoners.
Sen Stevens, Ted - Ocean Exploration, Mapping & Research (HR 1834/HR 2400/S. 39) Sen Snowe, Olympia J. - Integrated Coastal and Ocean Observation System Act (S. 950/HR 2342) Sen Voinovich, George V. - Appalachian Regional Development Act Amendments of 2008 (S. 496)
Dude, I win in the middle school play ground, the high school play ground, the political play ground and the reality play ground.
But to quote war games, “Funny thing about this game Professor Falcon, the only way to win is not to play.”
If the game one plays it to convince dumb Republicans that they’re wrong, you’re going to lose. You can’t convince people living in a different universe that reality exists.
But the fact that I even had to look that stuff up shows how stupid you are. It took five minutes. FIVE MINUTES. You don’t even care about America, you just care about your ideology.

And for the record, yes I did get a lot of those quotes from a partisian blog.
See, I am technically an independent who is simply aligned with the Democrats because the Republicans, Greens, Libertarians and Ralph (syn: to spew) all disgust me right now.
Obama has flaws (FISA capitulation bill, We Give In To George W. Bush Financial Shock Doctrine Bill) but he has a BRAIN and he knows how to use it.
Republicans don’t disclose their sources, and the reason I quoted the partisian blogs in this case is because most of the quotes there have been mirrored in the ‘liberal’ mainstream media.
Generally speaking, Republican talking points are only reflected by other Republicans.

Bravo! You have done a great job of hanging in there and pointing out the facts.
But unfortunately, the people you are responding to are immune to facts. You are essentially trying to break through the mental defenses. These fellow citizens know that Obama will be the next President but it really really, really-really-really hurts!
You see, Obama is karmic revenge for screwing Al Gore. Had the Supreme Court(speaking of in the tank) done the right thing in 2000 and all the votes properly counted in Florida, it is likely we aren’t talking about Obama except as freshman senator.(You might have even been looking at your boy Lieberman as the next President)
So to all of you moaning and groaning about Obama, too bad. It’s your own darn fault. Had you done the right thing in either 2000 or corrected your obvious mistake in 2004, you wouldn’t be suffering now.
But you didn’t do the right thing and now as a result, the country is in such shape that it not only is the next President going to be a Democrat, he’s going to be an African-American too!
Stop blaming the media and elites and all the other fake boogeymen you so love to hate and look straight into the mirror. You folks are responsible for Obama because without W and a Republican Congress in complete control we would have never reached this point.
So thank you, thank you so very much for President Obama.

I hope just one of you start paying attention to what is being done to our country by the controlling party in Congress.
I was told today that unless a party has a 60% majority in congress that they cannot control the economy. So who has controlled the economy since the last congressional veto proof session? Does anyone know when the last time Congress slanted 60% to one party? Does this mean that no one has controlled the economy for that long?
It’s that kind of ignorance that has put the control of Washington in the hands of the democrats and anyone with a brain could see the results.
I would never ask anyone to believe me. All I ask is that you stay away from all the political websites ffrom both sides and start PAYING ATTENTION

After growing up and living in THIS city for the last 40 years, you bet I am terrified of having a black president - Maynard, Bill, etc. have proven that it’s not possible to be a fair minded, non-racist idiot when it comes to politics. Oh GAS!? Why didn’t you say so.
How about:
Republicans voted for the Iraq War. The Iraq war is causing the price of oil to sky rocket because of fear of conflict with Iran. Also, Bush helped get Chavez more power by being a general idiot.
Also, Republican deregulation helped empower speculators. “Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room” showed that.
Democrats have tried to pass alternative energy proposals that would create a lot of jobs by investing in our infrastructure. Democrats have tried to pass SCHIP which would make our nation more competitive internationally because employers would not be stuck paying for insurance instead of private individuals (and Obama supports individual insurance plans, not Government health care btw.)
And I’ve only made myself look foolish to you The News.

Eight years ago I said George W. Bush was too stupid to be President. Obviously I’ve been proven correct. The first time I saw Sarah Palin I said she was too stupid to be Vice President. I believe I will be proven correct again.
I’m not a Democrat and I’m sure as heck not a Republican, since I truly believe that big business controls the Republican party. Unless we want the rich to get richer while the poor get poorer, like they have for the past eight years, we need a change. McCain/Palin isn’t the answer.
He’s too old and she’s too stupid. She had to go to five different schools to get a bachelor’s degree and McCain graduated in the bottom 10% of his class. On the other hand Obama is arrogant, but he is Harvard educated. And until he published his first book, he and his wife were paying student loans while trying to raise a family (like many of us). McCain lives in multi-million dollar homes and his wife wears $300,000 outfits. Tell me which one knows what it’s like to struggle to make ends meet and which one is only interested in making the rich richer.
McCain has continued to perpetrate the lie that Obama is Muslim. Anyone who has even a small concept of the Muslim faith (this would leave out all right wing conservatives as they are only interested in their own twisted beliefs) knows that stepping into a Christian Church is an offense punishable by death.
The other hot button issue “The War”, has McCain stating Obama flip flopped on his support. Well, so did many Americans. When the war first began and Bush/Cheney were spreading the lies about the World Trade Center terrorists being from Iraq many of us supported a war. When the truth came out, that the terrorists were actually Saudi citizens, many of us turned against the war. Why is a politician not allowed to change his view when he discovers the truth?
A true Christian isn’t supposed to swear allegiance to any entity other than our God. How many right wing conservatives have twisted Christianity and patriotism to the point that the two are inseperable? I have lost count of the times that people are stunned by the fact that I am a Christian, but I’m not a conservative. There is a difference that seems to have gotten lost when Karl Rove began spreading his filth 9 years ago.

SwwetSwwetKarma: I am not sure what the word “swwet” means though. Sweet, sweat? Oh, I give up on even attempting to debate with a clearly more intelligent lifeform (a Democrat) than myself (a Republican). With the likes of K, Scottbravesfan and yourself, us Republicans do not stand a chance against your unique brand of wisdom and intelligence. Your superiority over us clearly sets you apart. LOL
So you accuse Republicans of blaming others, yet your party is indeed the “party of blame” Democrats blamed Bush on Katrina, our economy, our gas prices, on 9/11 and so on. Do you see a pattern here? Obviously the Democrats share no blame in these matters?! The Dems have had 2 (yes 2) years to make things better and yet they have made them worse.
And your pointing out the 2000 election clearly demonstrates your desperation of attempting to make a valid point. You state that it is “our fault” that we didn’t elect Al Gore in 2000, thus causing our suffering. I think it is impossible for anyone to know how Gore would have handled 9/11 and the other issues we have faced. How do you know we still wouldn’t have faced these issues we face today?
I personally could care less if the next President is African-American, white, Asian or Mexican. Race is completely beside the point in who I support. It is the principles, stance on the issues, character and vision for the country’s future that I am concerned with. If Condi or Colin Powell were running, I would gladly vote for either one.
Obama is not the person we need in office at such a critical time. He is running on such a vague concept, but doesn’t have the experience or record to back it up. I am not 100% thrilled with McCain, but in my opinion, he has a record of being able to work across the aisle in order to get things done. Obama has a record of voting “present” (i.e. that he is there).
I hope that you are right about Obama, but frankly, I think you are dead wrong. If he is voted in and makes remarkable decisions and does a stand up job, I will officially eat my words. Unfortunately I do not see that happening, I believe that he will make a bad situation much worse.

I suggest you folks will feel much better about this medicine you’re about to get if you took your own advice and accept personal responsibility for electing W, that Republican Congress, and supporting the very policies that have taken the country in a direction most don’t want it to go in.

This is a description of the Alaska Independent Party.
The Alaskan Independence Party is a political party in the U.S. state of Alaska that advocates a state vote which includes several options, including increased state autonomy, territorial status, becoming a separate nation or commonwealth state, and, failing that, for increased Alaskan control of Alaskan land, gun rights, privatization, home schooling, and reduction of governmental intrusion in the private lives of its citizens with adherence to the founding documents of the United States. The party has appeared on the ballot in Alaska in all state elections since 1970.
And funny enough here is a quote from their web Page. Todd Palin was registered as a member but never participated in any party activities aside from attending a convention in Wasilla at one time.
And yet another portion of their web page:
**The Alaskan Independence Party’s goal is the vote we were entitled to in 1958, one choice from among the following four alternatives:
1) Remain a Territory. 2) Become a separate and Independent Nation. 3) Accept Commonwealth status. 4) Become a State.**Gee now they want to separate, didn’t that happen about 120 years ago?? Real bloody war and many died? Hmm gee we all know how that turned out!
Funny how he’s a registered member but has never participated in any events except for a CONVENTION. Funny how the disclaimer appears AFTER his wife is nominated for VP. There is a You Tube video of her speech to the AIP. Yeah this is who we want in the white house all right and you people think things are a mess now???????????? WTF do you think would happen if this idiot and McCain get elected??? My god I am starting to believe that this country has regressed in it’s intelligence rather than advanced. No wonder other countries have started to surpass us in technological advancements and education. All of those self righteous bible toting individuals out there who think that McCain and Palin are the right choice for the job regardless of what they will, do this country…..you need to do a reality check!! What you’ll do to this country by electing them is nothing less than guarantee a rapid steady decline of what it’s taken 200 plus years to build! We’ve already got an 8 year head start. I don’t know though, maybe you relish the idea that we may have to beg for other countries to get us out of all the problems we’ll be buried in? WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE ALREADY!

Hey Brad, I indeed misspelled a word.Big points for you huh?But hey, I can admit when I am wrong. How about you? Can you admit that the policies of the present administration, be they domestic or foreign, were so bad that you are now going to witness the correction and his name is Barack Hussein Obama.
By the way, I am not a Democrat. So wrong again. Just like there are millions of others out there who are not Democrats, but who aren’t stupid enough to want to keep doing the same things we’re doing now.
There are millions of us who are not Democrats but we are not stupid and we do not want a stupid person a heartbeat away from being President.
Yeah ok for you and your color-blindness. I’ll take you at your word.Spare us the “if it were Condi or Colin” spin because we all know that neither is acceptable to what amounts as the Republican base these days. If you are as honest and earnest as you claim, then you’ll admit that Obama being African-American and having a middle name of Hussein blows many a mind. I like to pick at them, I’ll admit it.
Brad, if you’re honest, then you have to admit that we need to do things differently. The problems we had didn’t start two years ago. The Republicans have not voted the changes the Democrats wanted to make the last two years. So for you to make the argument that the Democrats had a chance to “make things better” is not completely true.
See it’s the whole 2 years > 7 years stuff that makes me believe you aren’t as honest as you say you are. It’s also one reason why McCain/Palin is losing, people aren’t buying it. Karma has come knocking for those who have been in power and failed.

Just a suggestion, but you may want to look around and see how many other liberals are trying to justify what the Democrats have done in Congress for the past two years. I count you, and that’s it.
I will hand it to you that you were brave enough to try, but now you are just getting desperate.
The Iraq war was started in 2003. Gas prices stayed constant until 2007 when the democrats took over Congress.
Enron crashed in 2002. Had almost no effect on our economy.
You didn’t list any of those bills that the democrats tried to pass that would have invested in alternate energy sources. Why is that? You obviously spent some time looking for bills that the Democrats had tried to push through, but you listed none of those bills. Doesn’t make much sense if you were trying to prove me wrong, does it?
You seem to be doing OK with people blabbering about race, but the actual facts about the democratic Congress seem to present a challenge for you.
We’ve spent most of the day and you can’t list a single thing the democrats have done that would have helped our current crisis. Aren’t they in charge? Didn’t Nancy Pelosi claim that putting democrats in charge of the Congress would result in lowering the price of gas?
How do you like those gas prices so far?
I would say to have a good night, but I’m sure you will. Ignorance is bliss.

Peculiar people whose life is either behind them, or have no right to have one ahead of them, preach moralism in the name of our revolution. This moralism often has nothing in common with true morality. They proclaim ethical laws that might be appropriate for a nunnery, but are entirely out of place in a modern cultural state.
Those words were written in 1934 by a man that was one of the most brilliant communicators the world had ever known. He captured the most educated and cultured nation in the world and in a few short years turned them into card carrying members of one of the most brutal political movements in the history of the world.
intolerance manifests itself under the righteousness of anti-religious zealots. Most liberals are only open minded to the causes that promote their own politics. They except bigotry as simply a tool top use when it fits their needs. The attacks on Sarah Palin show how dedicated they really are to the cause of sexism. They have no dedication except to the political mantra that is taught to them by carnival showmen like Bill Marh, David Letterman and the ultra liberal writers of SNL.
These same people are about to have complete contol of the free world.
God help us.

Even to the point of risking their tax free status to talk about these things in the church…. That’s just a shame, and a sham. A fun skit and the people not allowed to have “fun” profess shock. Shock and awe? Heh.

Sweet Sweet Karma: I agree that we have many issues and BOTH parties are to blame. We do need change, but not a change to turn over more authority to the government, which is what Obama is proposing (i.e. health care). The government’s involvement in the housing industry is a good illustration of why we shouldn’t give them more power.
The Republicans are not perfect and share blame in our issues. I believe, however, that they are the lesser of 2 evils at this point. McCain is actually a moderate Republican and represents going against his own party for the good of the American people.
I believe that many people are being misled to believe that ONE man can fix everything by saying the word “change”. He doesn’t have a record on voting for critical and important issues. In fact, there are many issues he never voted for by simply voting “present”. He wants to sit down with terrorists for crying out loud. As Palin and McCain have said, that is naive.
And please do not assume that I am lying when I say I would vote for Condi or Powell. I am far from being a racist and if you knew me on a personal level, you would certainly recognize that. Yes, there are many who are voting for McCain because they do not want to cast a vote for an African-American. However, there are many casting a vote for Obama solely because he is an African-American.
Racism exists in ALL communities and political bases. If “President Obama” represents a form of racial healing, then that in my opinion will finally signify our country’s ability to movie beyond skin color. African-Americans have contributed many great things to our country and far too many people refuse to acknowledge that. However, Obama is not the man needed to get our country back on track.
The problems that we have have worsened in the past 2 years; I did not say that they started 2 years ago. The Democrats are the majority, therefore, they should have been able to pass their legislation relatively easily. The President’s legislative powers are strictly defined. If a President vetoes a bill, then Congress can override that by a two-thirds vote in the chamber.
I am glad that you do not consider yourself a Democrat, however, you certainly have those talking points down.

Ok ok ok… 1. SNL makes fun of everybody. After the Pres. debate they mocked Obama about the “race card” but you don’t the left whining. Get over it. It’s a comedy show. Now whether or not it’s funny is open for debate but don’t get mad about what they do. They’ve mocked both Clintons extensively over the past ten years. Also isn’t Lorne Michaels a public McCain supporter?
Everybody who is saying Obama and McCain can’t be trusted because of “x,y, or z” you are idiots. Obama isn’t buddy buddy with terrorists. McCain isn’t an out of touch bumbling fool like our current President. Don’t believe everything that comes through your email about the candidates and don’t believe what they say about each other. I advise you to consult www.factcheck.org (which is NOT the liberal media - it’s an independent organization that even Cheney cited during the 04 election as being good) or www.politifact.com All the rumors, stories, and attacks you hear from both candidates are picked apart and explained - including the Ayers, Wright, Rezko characters.
Support a candidate because you agree with their positions on the economy and foreign policy…not because of rumors and attack ads, which usually are glaringly false and manipulative. And make sure youi’ve checked out their policies from legit sources - like their own campaign websites - not based on what a TV commercial says about them.
Finally to the person who says the Democrats are at fault over the past two years because they control the legislature, you clearly need to go to a high school civics class. Dems have a majority, but barely…so if Bush threatens a veto they don’t have the votes to override. Plus the Senate is home to the fillibuster - which dems used when Repubs were in power and now the Repubs use that the dems have the majority.

Well ain’t that nice. So now you have to have a 60% majority in Congress in order to actually be able to govern. isn’t it amazing what rules liberals will invent in order to justify their leader’s incompetence?
Chris, do you have any idea when the last time our country had a veto proof Congress? So, by your standard, it hasn’t been anyone’s fault in our lifetime. But let me guess: this doesn’t apply to Republicans, does it?

Brad, why are you moaning about being called a racist when I said I believed that you were colorblind?
Why do you call Obama’s healthcare plan “government-run” when that is not what it is? You see, when you tell little fibs like that, and then turn around and say someone else is using talking points, it makes you look sketchy.
Look, if John McCain was the same guy saying the say things he claimed to believe in in 2000, then I would vote for him. But he’s not that guy anymore. The same people who told lies about him he hired to help run his campaign! I am very disappointed in him and I don’t like this 08 version of McCain at all. I never questioned his character until this campaign. I was a diehard fan and unashamed about it. But he has let me down.
I have family in Iraq and they tell me that there are some troops who do want to stay, but the vast majority believe it’s time to go. I agree, John McCain does not. He will not get my vote.
Since you mentioned healthcare, Obama wants to offer everyone the same plan as Congress gets. You get to keep your own doctor. Better yet, my best friend lost his coverage because one of his kids got sick and they maxed out. Now they can’t find insurance. When I read Obama’s plan he mentions making sure people can still maintain insurance even if they have an illness. John McCain’s plan, if you go read it as I have, doesn’t mention the same thing. Again, on this issue McCain does not get my vote.
You see, you don’t have to make stuff up. You can read policies for yourself and then vote for the candidate who you believe is better.
But when you have to rely on calling people falsely by religion, or of being a terrorist, or mischaracterizing their policy positions, then you lose credibility. Not only have you and others done that on this thread, but McCain has allowed his campaign to go in that direction.
There’s a reason why McCain is losing. Some people believe we are in a hole and want to change diggers. Others of us believe we need to stop digging. It’s simple, but that really is what this election comes down to.
Anywho Brad, sorry this is such a tough decision for you. It’s not for me. I’m voting for something, not against someone in this election. I believe those of us voting Obama will be on the correct side of history. It’s not too late, you can put aside your resentments and join us in doing what’s best for the country.

The Alaska Independence Party was founded by a loon who was killed in a dope deal gone sour. He so hated the United States that, according to his demand, his bones were buried in Canada. One of the central planks of the AIP demands is that when a vote is held on changing the status of Alaska that all miltary personnel and their dependents be barred from voting. IOW, they want to disenfranchise all soldier and spouses stationed in alaska from participating. Todd Palin, convicted drunk driver and habitual pot-head, is a registered member of this organization. His wife, S. Plain (also a heavy marijuana user and runner-up in a local “beauty” pageant) in her capacity as governor taped a fulsome “welcome” message to one of their goofy “conventions.” In this perky welcome, she approved how supportive they were of “Alaska first” and the state constitution.
Funny how someone so ostensibly supportive of soldiers, war and guns could so blithely endorse a lunatic fringe group who would prevent the military from voting.

The reason this country’s economy is rocketing toward depression is due, in part, to millionaire welfare policies backed by John McCain and his political party.
The notion that Barack Obama is to be rejected because he will increase taxes is an example of John McCain only telling part of the story. The other part of the story that McCain conveniently leaves out is that the increase does not affect those who are not in the CEO club.
The fact is that 90% of taxpayers will not pay higher taxes and quite likely will be paying less under the Obama tax proposal.
All of you Joe Six-packs out there who are so gung-ho for McCain are so very naive. If you base his promises to you on how he has voted in the past then you can arrive at only one conclusion:
Unless you happen to be in the millionaire club, John McCain is going to do nothing for you. This guy doesn’t give half of a rat dropping about you as you so loudly sing his praises.

I have not moaned about being called a racist, I have defended my character. I do not see fact of your saying I was colorblind, but if that is what you implied then I apologize for the misunderstanding.
The following link states Obama’s plan: http://www.americanthinker.com/2008/03/obamashealthcare_plan.html. Many analysts say that it will not work and will only increase the government’s involvement in health care. It will essentially require an increase in cost while the patient will get a lesser quality of care. Obama doesn’t exactly tell us who will be paying for his proposed plan.
Whether you agree or disagree with the Iraq war is beside the point. I do not like war but sometimes it is necessary. I do not believe that those who have died in Iraq have died in vain. The end result of this war may not be seen or understood until many years from now. Things could have certainly gone better there, but I believe that we should stay until the job is done. A good friend of mine just returned there from his 2nd tour of duty and said that a lot of progress had been made and the majority of people there are very kind to the soldiers.
This vote is not a tough decision for me, I have made up my mind. At this point, your candidate is likely to win. So congratulations to you. However, do not say that you were not warned.

Doesn’t people understand that “rich” people (i.e. entrepreneurs, business entities, etc.) are who employ the poor and middle class? Obviously that is how we earn a living, you know, from the pockets of the rich. Why should we punish those who are rich? Shouldn’t we all try to better ourselves so we can also achieve that success?
The rich guy does not equal the evil guy. If it were not for the rich, most charities would not receive contributions and we would not have jobs. The lazy people in this country may be searching for a Robin Hood, but the hard-working people do not want a free ride.
Christopher Gardner is a perfect example of a man working his way up from absolute poverty to the ultimate success. This is a man, along with his young son, who went from being homeless to being a multi-millionaire. If this man can do it, then anyone can.

In her closing remarks at the vice-presidential debate Thursday night, Ms. Palin referred earnestly, if loosely, to a quote from Ronald Reagan. He had warned that if Americans weren’t vigilant in protecting their freedom, they would find themselves spending their “sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was like in America when men were free.”
What Ms. Palin didn’t say was that the menace to freedom that Reagan was talking about was Medicare. As the historian Robert Dallek has pointed out, Reagan “saw Medicare as the advance wave of socialism, which would ‘invade every area of freedom in this country.’ ”
Does Ms. Palin agree with that Looney Tunes notion? Or was this just another case of the aw-shucks, darn-right, I’m-just-a-hockey-mom governor of Alaska mouthing something completely devoid of meaning?
Here’s Ms. Palin during the debate: “Say it ain’t so, Joe! There you go pointing backwards again … Now, doggone it, let’s look ahead and tell Americans what we have to plan to do for them in the future. You mentioned education, and I’m glad you did. I know education you are passionate about with your wife being a teacher for 30 years, and God bless her. Her reward is in heaven, right?”
If Governor Palin didn’t like a question, or didn’t know the answer, she responded as though some other question had been asked. She made no bones about this, saying early in the debate: “I may not answer the questions the way that either the moderator or you want to hear.”

I am an Independent who is voting for McCain/Palin. McCain has demonstrated leadership and the ability to work across the aisle. Palin has a remarkable record as governor of Alaska. She is a brilliant woman, not the one painted by the media and Dems.

You obviously spent some time looking for bills that the Democrats had tried to push through, but you listed none of those bills. Doesn’t make much sense if you were trying to prove me wrong, does it?
Dude, why should I list facts to a liar? If you deny what you’ve seen with your own eyes, what, exactly are facts going to do?
You just said that Gas prices have been static for the last five years.
You seem to be doing OK with people blabbering about race, but the actual facts about the democratic Congress seem to present a challenge for you.
I can obtain all the facts I want, but what’s the point of feeding facts to a liar?
We’ve spent most of the day and you can’t list a single thing the democrats have done that would have helped our current crisis. Aren’t they in charge? Didn’t Nancy Pelosi claim that putting democrats in charge of the Congress would result in lowering the price of gas?
They prevented George W. Bush from screwing it up even more than they otherwise would.
Filibustering from the Republicans has prevented a lot, spineless cowardice from Nancy Pelosi has prevented even more, and George W. Bush ignoring the law has prevented even more.
Just because the Democrats have been withering cowards for two years doesn’t mean the Republicans aren’t lying sociopathic crooks.
How do you like those gas prices so far?

One thing I want to say about Palin’s latest comments on Obama’s “character.” Wow, this from a woman whose husband’s associations are questions, who is rumored to have had an affair while married, who has a teenager who is pregnant, who is currently being investigated for influencing staffing issues in office, and who is on a ticket with McCain who has admitted to having affairs while married to his first wife, leaving his injured 1st wife for his current younger/richer one. Character? If I were they, I would remain silent on this issue. Obama would win hands down.
