Bill Clinton makes a surprise appearance at Buckhead fund-raiser

Former President Bill Clinton dipped into Atlanta this afternoon for an unannounced Buckhead fund-raiser for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.

“He returned to a state he won in 1992 to help elect Barack Obama,” state Sen. David Adelman (D-Atlanta), a member of Obama’s national finance team, told my AJC colleague Aaron Gould Sheinin. Clinton was the last Democrat to win Georgia.

The event, which was not open to the public or publicized in advance, was at a local art gallery.

Adelman did not know how much was raised and said the fund-raiser was the only event Clinton did for the campaign in the state today.

UPDATE: The fund-raiser also includes a vice-presidential debate watching party hosted by Hank and Billye Aaron, at the Atlanta home of Mack Wilbourne. The “ask,” we’re told, is $1,000 and the VIP entry fee is $5,000 — or raise $10,000.

Here’s the invitation.

Good sir,

Could you please clarify the need for the use of the word “dipped” in the same sentence with President Clinton. So, he had a little fun in life good for him. Anywho, I wasn’t their but I heard it thru the crepe line it was splendid.

Is he the one of which Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo. sp?….said she didnt want her daughters anywhere near him?, word is that, if this is the same one, he and his ‘classy’, deceitful wife, whatever her name is, are no longer speaking to her, like she cares, if I were him, I would be ashamed to show my face anywhere, much less an art gallery in which he might happen to stumble upon a painting, depicting his ‘feeling NO pain’, what a sad state of affairs that he sashays all over the world commanding respect he never earned, most probably he is the laughing stock and joke of 7 continents. I wouldnt walk across the street to see him, much less pay!

So, thank your local Democrat for today’s economic crisis…better yet, perpetuate it and vote Obummer!

The pubs have had control of Congress from 1994 through 2006, which fits right in with your 3 to 4 year time frame. You bankers were just greedy and kept making loans not just to poor people, but to builders who kept on building.

You need to do your homework, and go back to school and learn proper debt to income ratios. Plus you need to not abdicate your responsibility to validate income. Everyone is not as “honest” as you bankers are..

Guess that’s all they’ve got to rag on him considering all the terrible peace and prosperity we enjoyed during his 8 years in the White House.

Peace and prosperity. Those are 2 words you don’t hear a lot under W’s magnificent leadership. Only a few more months until we have someone with a working brain back in the White House.

Will electing a black person make a positive difference? Only if you’re heavily medicated. Makes no difference what color or race he is, he doesn’t belong in the job. Obama will probably win this election, he’s the lead horse right now, and he’ll do the same job the Clintons did, if we’re lucky, and then we’ll be right back where we started. Anybody that thinks this man is a savior needs serious mental help. McCain is not perfect by any means but is preferable until a better candidate for the Presidency arises. You think we got problems now just wait until after Barack Obama gets elected President of the United States of America. Way to go America! Can’t get out of your own way!

So you are a banker big deal. Probably one of the ones who help some poor person buy a home by feeling their head full of hope and dreams shame on you just because you wanted to look good for your boss. I hope if McCain becomes president and God help this country if he does that you and everyone else who voted for him will wake up one morning and you will have no home, no job, no food and especially no where to go but down. Then you can thank McCain for helping you to see how it feel to go from having something to having nothing. Because he is not going to help you. Then you will see how the other poor people going thru this feel. I guess you haven’t had the chance to go thru losing a child or a friend in this war. Well I have and let me tell you the pain is their everyday and it want ever go away. So you go a head with the rest of the idiot and vote for McCain, if that makes you feel better.

Couldn’t let this revisionist history stand. From 1995 to 2007(when Democrats won the majority) the Republicans have controlled both the house and the senate. Now you’re saying that the democrats only passed the legislation? Numerically, how is that possible? Republicans are always trying to rewrite history….mainly to make themselves look WAY better in the rewrites.

The Pubs can blame anyone they want and we can say it is greed and their fault but the truth is that while profiting heavily from it these financial institutions were forced to give loans to people that they know could never pay them back. Objectively listening to the debates and really no knowing who stands for what, I am suprised that neither of the candidates have put forth a real plan on how to address the issues.

For me it seems that we are moving ever closer to a Civil War, exceot there will be no North/South instead Democrat/Republican.

The writing is very obviously on the wall with the Republicans, Sarah Palin was a stupid ploy to offset Hitlery Clinton running on the Democratic ticket. I will say she was an OUTSTANDING speaker last night, and I though it was a clear vicotry in her favor. Biden lost his cool (if he had any) last night.

To that same point McCain truely looked like a deer in the headlights when he debated Obama, and Obama was very clearly a better speaker and more confident in what he stood for.

For me, a youngish USMC veteran, I want to know what each candidate is going to do to reverse the trend of the last 10 or so years where the US is slowly shifting into a 3rd world country. The dollar is in a steady decline, the economy is in the toilet, and we are still trying to run the world like we are the powerhhouse of the late 80’s early 90’s.

Here is what I do not understand in this melee of blogging. How do any of you expect one lick of “Change?” The president does not set the policy. In our system the president is weak. The Congress and Senate are the power and they have shown they are not willing to change. Obama has no record. McCain has a record that I would not be proud of in regards to deregulation and spending. He at least stuck his head up and foretold us of the debacle that was getting ready to happen at Freddie and Fanie. But, then did not have the leadership to get the legislation through that could have help prevent what is happening to the economy. It is time to institute term limits and the fair tax. let’s turn Washington from a power struggle to what our founding fathers tried to establish. It is called the United States and nothing could be further from the truth. Let’s remove the federal power base and return it to the states. The division of this country is what is going to destroy it. Pelosi, Lott, Reid, kennedy, Isaakson, Price, Byrd and all of them have been there tooooo long. Fresh faces bring fresh ideas. Neither of these candidates bring fresh ideas to the voters of this country. I lay the blame on the American people who have continued to elect the same ole same ole. Our parties have not pushed the best candidates. Not one of you out there can say Obama or McCain are the best we have to offer. Isn’t that the sad state of affairs?

Why is it hard to believe that a black/white American can be the president. What are people thinking about when we have issues that are far above humanity. It should be the best person, not the color of their skin. All of the former presidents were concern about their personal wealth not the best interest for this country. We have an opportunity to try something different in the whole country is in an uproar. If it wasn’t for individuals selling us out to pad their pockets we wouldn’t be in this mess now. Barack couldn’t do anything worst than what Bush has already done. We have to protect this guy for rest of his life because he stole the first election. And, he did have any competition for the second term. Bush and his family aren’t worried about foreclosure his house is paid for. He’s not worried about gas, he’ll get that before us. People need to start praying and stop thinking about the old traditional, that’s in the past. This is what terroist wanted our country to dry out………….

No Ebony,,,, INFORMED voters will vote for McCain! But hey, there may be some smart ones in the bunch! I know this for sure, a vote for Obama is definitely a STUPID vote. Unless your a socialist, or your just voting for him because of skin color. Other wise the proof is in his record. A record that shows NO experience, as Obama has done nothing to give any proof that he is ready for the Commander in chiefs job. Sorry but that’s the TRUTH. I am an independent voter who chooses to be INFORMED, rather than let my emotions buy in to this Obama and Change mentality. I think the last time we voted a democrat into office because of the “CHANGE” he was going to invoke, was Jimmy Carter. We all know how that worked out. I can’t believe that the American people have become so IGNORANT as to fall for the HORSECRAP that Obama is spewing. pp says it best, well he can’t do any worse than anyone else. That statement alone sums it up best. The bottom line is that we will get what we deserve! If this country is that far gone as to vote a man who has NO clue, then so be it! Maybe four years of Obama will be enough to wake the American people up, to take their once GREAT country BACK! Time will tell!

The main reason for the mess we are in is Barney Franks wanting to buy votes for the Democratic party by doing a great disservice to the very ones he was trying to help. Only a Bafoom didn’t see this coming. When you provide houseing to those who have no credit and no savings for a down payment it can’t help but fail. Then the crooked loan officers got in it and “BOOM”, here we are.

For the record, according to the Federal Reserve’s website, the CRA (Community Reinvestment Act) was enacted in 1977 amended in 1995 and 2005. Hey, Banker Dude, no wonder we are in a mess - you don’t check your facts very well. Additionally, the Fed stipulates that no risky loans are to be granted. Way to go, greedy bankers.

Obama is a sleeper Muslim. He is not to be trusted. These ignorant minorities are only voting for him because he is black. Talk about blind racism.

You make my point! When faced with something you don’t like or understand, then denigrate! I simply stated fact, that you or any of your LIB friends can’t dispute. I know the truth HURTS! Your NAME fits you well!

Attention non-white people - playing the race card no longer has any effect. It has been played so often and so inappropriately that it has become a running joke rather than a badge of shame - except for Jay Bookman of course.

As for “taking back the country” when Obama is elected…what will be taken back? The wealthy will remain wealthy, the poor will remain poor and money will remain the driving influence in congress and the statehouses. The power of green trumps all other colors when it comes to developing policy.
