WXIA/WMAZ poll: McCain-Obama race tightens in Georgia, Chambliss and Martin separated by 2 points

WXIA in Atlanta and WMAZ in Macon have just put out a new SurveyUSA poll that indicates the presidential and U.S. Senate races in Georgia have tightened significantly during the economic free-fall.

Bottom line: The two TV stations say Republican John McCain, who had held a 16-point lead two weeks ago, is now polling 52 percent, with Democrat Barack Obama at 44 percent. Only 2 percent are undecided.

Margin of error is plus or minus 3.8 percent, with 677 likely voters polled.

The biggest swings in the presidential race are among young voters and those with household incomes of less than $50,000.

Click here to get to some of the cross tabs.

One interesting statistic, simply because it reflects intensity:

Among the 9% of Georgia voters who say they have already voted, Obama leads by 29 points; among those who have not yet voted, McCain leads by 12.

But the real eye-opener may be the race between Republican incumbent Saxby Chambliss and Democrat Jim Martin. SurveyUSA says it’s now a two-point race, 46 percent to 44 percent. Libertarian Allen Buckley is at 5 percent.

That’s not dissimilar to the DSCC poll noted in this space yesterday, which put Chambliss at 37 percent, Martin at 34 percent, and Buckley at 3 percent.

Saxby is a rubberstamp duplicate of his hero Prince George Bush. He just announced that he would have voted for the 1 trillon dollar give away. It’s time for him to go to work as a lobbist for the big money commercial interest he represents. I’m sure Imperial Sugar will snap him up after his defense of the blatant slaughter of several of their employees in the Savannah sugar refinery blast.

Georgia’s running out of water, gasoline, and even trees! The only thing in abundance in Georgia is traffic and crime.

What are Saxby and Sonny doing about Georgia’s problems? Nothing!

When the Dems ran GA, the roads got built, taxes were reasonable (GA now ranks 16th in taxes) and the murderers got fried.

Yes, let’s make GA blue again so things will actually get done and make GA a great place to live again.

Where Saxby Chambliss gets his money::

Agri Business—-$1,368,000 Banks, Insurance, Real Estate—-$1,332,000 Lawyers & Individual Lobbyist——$641,000 Misc Business —-$679,000 Other ——$606,000..

The Agi Business got a gift of $20 billion waste from Saxby’s Farm Bill. The Banks, Real Estate & Lawyers just got a $2 TRILLION gift from the Bail Out the Banks act which Saxby & Johnny are working for. Not a bad return on your money.

Saxby Chambliss has turned a blind eye to hardworking every-day Georgians who are struggling to stay afloat in tough economic times.

This week, we hear from Twiggs County farmer George Rouse. Skyrocketing costs on everything from groceries to gas to health care are making it harder than ever for George, and millions of other Georgians, to get by. Food prices have almost doubled since 2005 [Source: ERS/USDA]. The price of gas has more than tripled since Saxby was elected to the Senate [Source: Energy Information Administration]. But unfortunately, Saxby is just too busy helping out his lobbyist and special interest pals to help out hard-working Georgians who deserve a fair shake from Washington.

We need a Senator in Washington to fight for George Rouse and folks like him, not the special interests and lobbyists.

When it comes to looking out for Georgia’s working families, Saxby looked the other way:

No help for farmers and ranchers. Chambliss voted against assistance to farmers and ranchers making less than $750,000 a year and a program that would have helped train and encourage the next generation of American farmers and ranchers. [Vote #426, 12/13/07].

No help for working families either. And while prices for food, housing, health care and other necessities have gone up, Chambliss voted multiple times against raising the minimum wage [Vote #179, 6/21/06, Vote #26, 3/7/05]

Meanwhile, Saxby has worked hard to get things done for his friends on Wall Street.

Yes to rewarding companies that send American jobs to China, India, and other countries. In 2004, Chambliss voted against closing up $39 billion in tax breaks for companies that outsource their jobs. [Vote 90, 5/11/04] In 2005, Chambliss voted against against repealing tax incentives for domestic companies that move their manufacturing plants out of the U.S. [Vote 63, 3/17/05] He even gave those same companies a tax cut. In 2003, Chambliss voted to cut taxes on U.S. companies’ overseas income from 35% to 5.25%. [Vote 165, 5/15/03]

Won’t hold U.S. companies accountable if they deal with terrorists. Chambliss even voted against an amendment that makes U.S. businesses liable for dealing with foreign businesses that have links to terrorism. [Vote 203, 7/26/05

John McCain, who had held a 16-point lead two weeks ago, is now polling 52 percent, with Democrat Barack Obama at 44 percent. Only 2 percent are undecided.

Is this another example of why Georgia is 50th in math? What is 52+44+2?

I can’t believe that Obama could catch up in a state like Georgia. That would imply that people are actually paying attention, instead of stuffing fingers in their ears & then voting Republican. Typically, Republicans are impervious to facts or logic.

Yeah, Tom. That’s right. Let the free market work this out. Too bad you’ve never read any history.

The one thing I like about Saxby is that he does seem willing to compromise to get things done. I know that is a lost gift in our all-or-nothing times, but compromise is the best way out of the impasse this nation has been in the past two decades. I applaud Saxby’s decisions in that regard. The immigration bill was totally sensible, which is what doomed it with the cant-at-all-costs Republicans. The same goes for the “Gang of 10” work. And if Saxby does get re-elected, I’m sure he’d have plenty of opportunities to try to compromise with the other party. But, that said, I cannot forget that he is a Republican who repeatedly exercised poor judgment by supporting the Bush agenda. Sorry, Saxby, but I’m going to overlook your good points because of that.

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them. - Have you ever wondered why, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits? One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, and nine Supreme Court justices, 545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country. Those 544 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you / me that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party. - What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits. The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it. Have you ever wondered why, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes?

  • You and I don’t have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does.
  • You and I don’t write the tax code, Congress does.
  • You and I don’t set fiscal policy, Congress does.

What kind of change is Obama talking about because he shore hasn’t said it. I’m guessing the change he is talking about is raising taxes on small business so we wont have people pursuing the American dream of entrepreneurship, or taxing hardworking Americans to make more wellfare funds. I guess the change could also be to have the government control just about everything including health care so that lazzy helpless people and crackheads can have the same health care as someone who busts their a* everyday at a JOB. What has Obama done for America? Nothing because 22 days after being elected Senator he started running for President. Also every time you see an Obama rally there are 35,000 to 40,000 people showing up, whereas when McCain holds one he only draws 5,000 to 10,000 people….. I hate to sound partisan, but most Republians are dumb. REALLY dumb. Don’t get me wrong. Not ALL Republicans are dumb… Just most dumb people happen to be Republicans. And Georgia is full of dumb people. That’s why it’s a ‘Red’ state. The evidence of this pervasive stupidity is the election of America’s dumb President in 2004, AFTER having this idiot in office for 4 years. Bush is a very appropirate representation of all the ‘W The President’ stickers that you see on the cars of these dummies.

American really needs a real third party, because Democrats are only marginally better. But most are too stupid to ever seriously consider this option. So we’ll continue to witness the implosion of what should be the greatest nation on Earth.

I’m concerned about our future because of the impassioned collective stupidity of American who are content..even PROUD…to be stupid. Country First is the most BS slogan ever. It’s Party over Country. Has been for years now, and there are still an overwhelming number of dumb people who refuse all of the OVERWHELMING evidence that a real change is needed.

Party over Country… that’s the real American way.

Truth. I couldn’t have said it better. Everyone wants to blame Bush for everything, but really if you look back and see before the democratic congress took over in 2006 gas prices were $2.19 a gallon, unemployment was 4.5%, and Americans were spending. Then DEMOCRATES took over congress (which is where bills and laws get passed because we have a balance of power in our government ONE man cant dictate everything), gasoline rose to $4 a gallon, unemployment increased too over 5%, and THE DOW has gone down below 11,100 from 14,000.

If Obama is so Half-White, why has he immersed himself into an angry black community such as the south side of Chicago. Why does he attend a church whose website expouses the traditions of Africa and is devoted to Africa. If you check, they have completely revamped their website and got rid of the African symbols and colors. If you morons would get your heads out of the perimeter and find out what is happening in the real Georgia, you would understand the racial divide that exists in our state and all throughout the south. In rural Georgia, most communities are 50% White and 50% Black. From K-4th Grade, everyone gets along fine. Then about 5th-7th Grade, the vast majority of black kids become resentful of white kids. My kids have to endure the loud talking, interrupting, disrespectful behavior of the black kids. The black kids realize that my kids live in a nice house with both parents, who both have good jobs and they realize that they will never have that so they act out against my kids. It is a fact. As a kid, I was attacked by a group of black kids for being rich. I am afraid of my kids having to endure the same.

As a kid, I was attacked by a group of black kids for being rich. I am afraid of my kids having to endure the same.

PS Get a compass and draw a circle with a 100 mile radius from the state capital building. Everyone within that circle is a complete A**HOLE!

6 years ago Saxby promised the small farmers of Georgia help with the farm bill, I voted for him. He went to Washington became the head of the Ag committee, wrote the farm bill & took care of the Sugar farmers in Florida and the Corn farmers in the Midwest. The little farmers got the shaft & the big money got more money.Saxby actually gave big money a $437,000,000.00 subsidy for Race horses. Chambliss is just another crook we sent to Washington. I will be voting McCain & Martin.

Dems get us into this financial bailout mess and now they think they can blame Bush? Go back to the 90’s and see Clinton economic policies and CRA was what caused this. Basically liberals wanted to hand out loans to everyone who walked in the door - we got a group of people who could not make house payments tanking our economy. Realize THIS - we are bailing out FAILED MORTGAGES PEOPLE! Bush didn’t fail in these mortgages. People who could not afford them failed them. We are bailing out stupid choices of Clinton wanting to hand everyone a house. Thanks to him, liberal social engineering, and people stupidly buying houses they could not afford, we’re bailing them all out.

Palin’s church is a small town Assembly of God. Nothing like the hate spewing rhetoric found at Trinity and their former pastor (NUTJOB) Wright. Everytime I see those videos of Wright jumping up and down hollering his anti-American crap and racist bull**, my blood turn cold. That is the real Obama. You can call me racist or whatever you like. I am just saying what 75% of America is afraid to say. If Obama is elected president, it will be the ruin of the United States. Chris’s comment really hits the nail on the head. 100 Senators on the Hill. Did you know that the Libertarian Party has 13 US Senate Candidates on the ballots in 13 States this election cycle. Allen Buckley here in Georgia, Jason Scheuer in New Jersey, Richard Fontanesi in Louisiana, William Redpath in Virginia and the rest. 13 Libertarian US Senate Candidates, 13 colonies, coincidence? I think not. The Libertarian’s have a solution to the deep seated problems in Washington DC, a 13% solution. Elect Allen Buckley US Senator for Georgia and help elect the rest. Imagine the effect that 13 men who are not bought and paid for by either of the two entrenched political parties or thier lobbyist and special interest supporters could have on our Nation. Roll the Dice. Donate to thier campaigns. Vote for them and real change.

I want change and that change is to get the republicans back into congress so we can get out of this mess these dumb democrats have gotten us into. Democrats have to just be extremely stupid to believe everything Obama says is true. Seriously what has Obama done in his short time as a senator? NOTHING. Hell over half the time he just votes present (for the dumb Democrats that means he doesnt vote) which means he can’t even make a decision. Seriously people start doing some research before you vote.

How ignorant our nation. I see comments about how bad President Bush is and how he has ruined this country. Meanwhile, there has not been another 911 attack since 2001; this while combatting an enemy that will do ANYTHING to destroy us. Frankly, I thinnk he’s doing a fantastic job. No attacks since 9/11? Who are you kidding? There are many who believe, as do I that our President allowed the attack to happen so he could go and start his war. No one wanted this war, not the US, not the Iraqis. Besides, it was the Saudis that attacked, but they are Dubya’s best friends. How many of our soldiers, bases, and embassies have been attacked? Start counting now. To top is off, WE provoked THEM! Dubya made this into a Holy War. There is no way to “win” a Holy War. WWJD?? Can you look in the mirror and ask that question??

Don’t tell me I am better off now. After 22 years at the same company, I now am living paycheck-to-paycheck for the first time in my life. Never a fan of Bill Clinton, but at least he balanced the budget and the economy was strong. Dubya killed our economy in less than 5 years. He will be remembered as the worst President in the last 232 years, worse than Nixon- at least he knew when to cut-and-run. Now our government is taking over everything. We are practically a socialist society now. We need a major change or we will not survive. OBAMA/BIDEN!

Go ahead and vote for Obama and the Democrat Party. Just be prepared for what that brings. Your workplace will be unionized after the thugs threaten you into signing on the dotted line for everyone to see (Employee Free Choice Act). Your taxes will go up significantly. Raising taxes on those that make over $250k per year won’t provide the necessary resources to fund his spending programs. Illegal immigrants will be allowed to vote. Schools will return to social promotion, as long as the kids feel good about themselves. Our foreign policy will once again be subordinant to what Europe wants, not what is best to stop attacks on this country. Your guns will be confiscated. Obama made it clear last year that he does not believe that the 2nd amendment confers an individual right to bear arms. His flip-flop after the SC ruling was simply to gather more votes. He is more like slick Willie every day.

DL,

Obviously you missed the last couple of years of Clinton. The economy was fluffed and began to slide at the end of his term. So first off, don’t go singing Clinton’s praises. His policies caused this. They relaxed standards on loans to make sure African Americans and low income families could have easier access to loans regardless of credit. More and more high risk loans were made. With more loans being made, we saw the housing boom. Construction boomed. Then those who were in a lower income bracket living in a house they could not afford started defaulting on payments. All of those high risk homeowners foreclosed.

We’re bailing THEM out. We’re bailing people not smart enough to avoid buying a house they could not afford. So not only are we bailing out greedy banks but stupid people for living beyond their means. We can thank Clinton for opening this door and making banks offer this easy access. No credit? No problem! Little credit? No problem! Bad credit? No problem! Thanks to Clinton’s risky government scheme and social engineering plan, we’re sinking fast.

So DL, please don’t praise Bill. His fluffing up the economy was through poor means.

Do you really believe that Clinton would have balanced the budget with a Democrat congress? Clinton was handed a growing economy and lucked into the boom of the dot com explosion. The Republicans tied his hands on his Great Society II programs. Fortunately for him, the bust came as he was leaving office.

Vote for the Democrats and the Socialist States of America. Your quality of life should be guaranteed, no matter if you work or not. It’s everone else’s fault you fail, not yours. Anyone who succeeds must have cheated, so tax them into submission.

BTW, you want to look for the culprits in the mortgage backed securities implosion?

Barney Frank and his cohorts, thwarting every attempt to cease this madness because it might stop people from buying a home who couldn’t afford it.

Guess who is the third highest recipient of lobbying from FNMA/FRMC?

Yep. Barack Obama. Talk about a hypocrite.

Using the endearing words of John McCain…”MY FRIENDS” (like anyone on this blog can truly be his friend)…if your taxes get raised in the next four years it is not going to be because of Obama/Biden winning the election. It will be because we will spend approximately $3 Trillion dollars on a failed war that will not do anything to bring peace and/or democracy to the Middle East. Showcasing the surge is a joke because as soon as the US withdraws from Iraq, they will go back to what they were doing before the invasion….fighting and suicide bombings.

Corporate welfare is at an all time high (caused by the lowering of taxes on corporations) and what do we (the US public) get in return…we are losing jobs because the corporations are moving the work outside of our country in order to increase their profits. In years past, US businesses cared about the country. Now it is all structured to return the highest profits to owners/shareholders with little regard for the impact on the people or the country.

So, if you feel that taxes won’t be raised in order to cover the huge deficits, you are in for a rude awakening.

People keep complaining, but the same folks just keep getting re-elected each election because they all have too much power and money. If you really want change, then send some new blood to Washington, DC and start pushing for term limits for senators and house legislators just as the President can only serve 2 terms.

Bush and Cheney didn’t just allow 9/11 to happen, THEY COMMITTED 9/11!

Read the book and know from a wise scholar’s pristine, and easily readable logic that Chambliss has been treason’s fellowtraveler with his draft-dodging pal Bush.

The racism and stupidity seen in some of these comments are thankfully not representative of all Georgians, but they are scary and depressing to read.

As for the assertion that drilling in ANWR would solve our energy needs, in 2005 Bush’s own Department of Energy, in trying to advocate for drilling in ANWR, said that if we started drilling in ‘05, we could see a reduction of imports in 2025 by 3%. Yep, twenty years of drilling to reduce your $4/gallon gas to $3.88. Whoopee. (And again, this is the administration’s best-case scenario.)

I too have not forgotten what Sax Chambliss did to Max Cleland. Saying a man who lost three limbs in our country’s service was unpatriotic because he wouldn’t give Bush a blank check to start a war in Iraq? Next to Norm “I’ll dance on Paul Wellstone’s grave and accuse the Democrats of politicizing his death” Coleman in MN, Chambliss is the one senator I want out most this year.

It is really sad to me that so many of us white southerners are so ignorant/shameless/uninformed/self-righteous/immoral/close-minded. You really think those black kids disrupting your angelic white child’s classroom are doing so out of spite?? Seriously?? You think poor white kids are any better? I’ll answer that for you, NO! Children from poor households have more behavior problems, more trouble keeping up in school, and are more likely to cause trouble in general because of their home lives…not because they are inherently bad. And has everyone just completely forgotten why such a high percentage of black children are growing up in poor households?? Maybe it has SOMETHING to do with the fact that they were taken from their country only a few decades ago, treated like crap, sold as property and forbidden from being educated while they made more money for white people. And then when we so GRACIOUSLY allowed them to stop being property and turned our heads enough to allow them to be “free”, they had NO education, NO credentials, NO sense of family, and most importantly NO money. Oh yeah, and then we also wouldn’t let them into “our” side of town or “our” schools. So just a few short years after the laws actually get changed to make them “technically” equal citizens we want to bash them and criticize them left and right for still being poor and for having problems getting ahead as quickly or as easily as whites. Get real. For all you bible-thumpers who think you OWN religion…WWJD??? I can tell you he wouldn’t be a bigoted, self-righteous hypocrite who tried to hold people back with hatred while at the same time criticizing them for not being able to get ahead. Have some compassion and self-respect people. It’s supposed to be the Christian thing to do…
