Republican-leaning group goes after Chambliss, Isakson for ‘Gang of Ten’ efforts
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
U.S. Sens. Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isakson are catching flak from a Republican-leaning group for their participation in the “Gang of 10” bipartisan energy bill.
American Future Fund has taken out ads in eight Georgia newspapers, including this one, and has a radio spot up on 18 stations — including WSB and WGST. The ads criticize the limits the “Gang of Ten” proposal keeps on offshore drilling in most areas of the country. The group also interprets the proposed removal of a $30 billion tax credit for oil companies, used to pay for some environmental initiatives, as a tax hike.

American Future Fund is Iowa-based, with strong ties to Mitt Romney. Fund President Nicole Schlinger ran Romney’s straw poll effort during the Iowa primaries.
The group began business this spring with a TV spot in Minnesota, coming down on the side of Republican incumbent Norm Coleman.
The Georgia ads mark the first time they’ve entered a fight against Republicans, spokesman Tim Albrecht said. “Just because we think it’s a flawed proposal,” he said.

Beware of people who oppose something by calling it “flawed,” especially when they don’t point out the “flaw” or offer a solution. Usually they’re just trying to hide the fact that they don’t have a solution, or trying to hide which side of the issue they are really on. It’s an all-purpose b**t tactic.

Interesting assertion that Mitt Romney has ties to these ads since Romney’s own PAC known as ‘Free and Strong America’ is endorsing Saxby Chambliss.
Just because Schlinger ran Romney’s Iowa straw poll effort and after the conclusion of that effort went on to form her own PAC does not mean that Romney himself supports her current efforts.
In fact, as I said, Romney’s PAC endorsed Saxby.

Either way, I’m still not voting for McCain. Time instead to pull the plane into the hangar and build a new one for 2012. Romney’s the right guy to rebuild what will be a totally shut out of power Republican Party. This is a good thing. McCain’s long been the epitome of what we don’t like about Washington, the one guy more than any other who has pulled us further to the Left beside the Democrats. I’m sorry, but no supreme court doomsday scenarios (hey we got 7 of those 9 already and they still don’t rule properly) will make me settle for McCain. You know, being Democrats minus one doesn’t cut it in my book. I’m willing to wait 4 years rather than see McCain flash his ghoulish smile every night on TV.

Georgians, Don’t forget that Saxby was a Chairman for one of the congressional Judicial subcommittes. Judicial Chairmanship is the most sought after position in Congress because that one position controls all the legislation that goes b4 congress. Saxby was the Chairman for the Jusicial subcommittee for Immigration, Citizenship and Border Protection. Saxby was the root cause for the mess we are in with regard to criminal aliens in not only Georgia but the entire US of A. He has to go!!

Saxby is the only maverick I know! He is going to serve the people of Georgia instead of big oil which this so obviously is. they don’t want to be taxed, and I don’t blame them- but thier greed has the ire of all including Congress and thier stupidity is going to ruin thier windfall profits. Let’s thank them for starting a taxing frenzy!
Be glad you have someone who will stand up to this endless money pool- and mean spirtied, cowardly congressman from Cobb who are only saving thier political donations and picking on a guy from the same team!

Throwing away a winning hand Senate bill might scuttle momentum for the energy reform Americans want Augusta Chronicle Editorial Staff Wednesday, September 17, 20083 Usually we’re in accord with Georgia’s GOP U.S. senators, Saxby Chambliss and Johnny Isaakson; for the most part they are excellent public servants. And despite inappropriately wandering off the conservative reservation a few too many times, we also admire South Carolina U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham.
But this Gang of Three, which spearheaded a so-called bipartisan energy bill that grew to a Gang of 10 and in recent days to a Gang of 20, may be on the threshold of a huge mistake.
The energy measure they’re pushing, which may be voted on this week and, even worse, might pass the Senate and eventually the full Congress, is ostensibly a compromise between the two political parties. Using consumer and business tax credits — paid for by repealing tax credits to major oil and gas companies — it would transition 85 percent of the nation’s cars and trucks away from gasoline and diesel to renewable fuels by 2028.
And in a sop to the widespread public demand to “drill here and drill now,” the bill would increase domestic oil drilling to 100 miles off shore, but would permit Georgia, Virginia and the Carolinas to petition for leasing as close as 50 miles off shore.
Sounds like it might be a good “compromise” deal, but it isn’t. The four states would have to jump through a bevy of federal and state environmental regulatory hoops before they could move ahead on their 50-mile offshore leases.
The Gang of 20’s measure also cuts the heart out of the GOP House bill, which was picking up steam across the nation and has gained the tentative backing of the party’s presidential candidate, John McCain. That bill, sponsored by House minority leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, is detested by liberal Democrats and their environmental extremist allies.
Informally known as the “all-of-the-above-bill,” it, too, would encourage alternative fuels and the like, but it would also allow drilling more than three miles offshore, instead of 50 — and with fewer regulatory hoops. The measure also permits revenue sharing with the states and opens the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling.
This kind of energy action is what the public has been clamoring for, and for good reason: It makes the most sense in a time of soaring fuel and energy costs that are cutting into every American’s pocketbook. So it’s beyond us why any Republican lawmaker would abandon support for Boehner’s bill, which is not only best for America, but, as a bonus, is also a winning issue for Republicans heading into the November elections.
Conservative critics rightly note that the Gang of 20’s “compromise” is much more compatible with Barack Obama’s energy policies than with John McCain’s.
It’s inexplicable to us why Chambliss, Isaakson and Graham are pushing an energy plan that falls so far short of what’s needed for the nation and robs their party of an issue that was winning it votes.
It’s like offering to split a poker pot while holding four aces in their hands.

As far as Mitt’s ties to bogus dealings - look at Bain, Stage Stores, Kay Bee,Granite Bank, NeoStar, Learning Co., SanKaty (off shore billions 100% owned by Romney) and the Fraud, Perjury and Collusion of eToys. The preposterous notion that he had a “Blind Trust” since 2004. The Press is his playground - don’t step in their sand! http://fraud-corruption-mnat.blogtownhall.com/
