Jim Martin leads with Max Cleland in his first TV ad
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Jim Martin, the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate, has decided that the first image you’ll see in his general election campaign will be the face of Max Cleland.
Cleland, of course, was ousted in 2002 by Saxby Chambliss, now the Republican incumbent. Democrats are still smarting over a TV ad that Chambliss used in his campaign, which included first an image of Osama bin Laden, then one of Cleland.
Cleland, who lost three limbs in Vietnam, doesn’t mention the Chambliss ad in this TV spot for Martin. But the ex-senator does make a sly reference to Chambliss’ lack of military service.
“In times like these, we need people in Washington who’ve served their country,” Cleland says. “Jim Martin served with distinction as an Army officer in Vietnam, and he’ll do the same thing in the U.S. Senate.

One of the greatest lies ever told… The Democrats keep perpetuating Max was thrown out because of Saxby Chambliss’s commercial. What an insult to the Georgia voters who couldn’t wait to get rid of the guy who was elected as a conservative Dem. but got to D.C. and chummed up with Kennedy and voted against the ban on partial birth abortion. bin Laden my rear end.

Chambliss is a draft-dodger whose job in Washington was to guard the Constitution and serve “the many” in Georgia.
He failed to “blow the whistle” on Bush’s treason and false war. He is closet-queen Bush’s “good buddy” and must also be removed from office.

Jim Martin is a vet, Saxby Chambliss dodged the draft with a lame excuse. Chambliss voted to cut spending on VA Hospitals. As one who has served his country , Martin has my vote.

For the last 5 years I have been writing Saxby Chambliss to get out of the Lobbyist back pocket but he has only gotten worse as time goes on, Chambliss has been is Washington for 14 years & has drank too much of the Kool aid up there. I am voting for a real conservative Allen Buckley. Check him out…http://www.buckleyforsenate.com/welcome.asp

rustylyn, oh really? Then why did Chambliss find it necessary to use our nation’s greatest (still uncaptured) enemy in his lil’ TV ad, then? If the truth would have worked, why the grossly inappropriate use of OBL imagery?

It’s just precious how prissy Democrats get when bringing up Saxby’s “infamous” campaign ad showing imagery of OBL. Correct me if I’m wrong but, at the time of the ads in 2002, the September 11th terrorist attacks were barely a year old…essentially a current event that was central to everyone’s minds back then. To hear the liberals incessant whining about the matter you’d thought that Saxby accused Cleland of operating an Al Qaeda sleeper cell. The real issue here is Democrats have long been and still are candy assed wimps relating to matters of defense, national security, and foreign affairs. They get their delicate panties all in a wad when Republicans call them on it. The truth hurts sometimes I guess. If Martin wants to start off his campaign with a reminder of a senator who lost his seat because his values were FAR to the left of the average Georgian I say “be my guest!”

GA dem,I seem to remember Saxby used that imagery because Max was holding up a Homeland Security bill for not enough union perks…you know something that Georgians would really value over national security.

Jim… Although I like Mac, it’s a bad move to put him out front in your election effort. Doing so assumes that voters will be reminded and therefore energized because of the way Chambliss mistreated him in the last election. A lot of voters do not remember or care about that election. As a veteran you can speak directly to your comrads.
I am no political consultant but I follow credible poll results and they consistently indicate a preoccupation with the pain of current economic times, which result from policies pursued for the last seven plus years. Which proposed economic policies do you support and why?
Chambliss performance record evidences that he is in the pocket of the fat cats and the Bush Administration. How has this benefitted the average Georgian? His performance, not empty promises and claimed conservative values, is a worthy issue to be pursued.

I agree with you Martin needs to attack Saxby Special Interest directly on the way he has betrayed President Bush, John McCain & the Georgia Taxpayer. Let Saxby die with his record. Thet $5 million Saxby has collected from out of state Special Interest has cost the Georgia Taxpayers Billions.

Yeah, and now Cleland heads to NC Friday and Saturday to ‘stump’ for Kay Hagan, the lieberal democrackkk hoping to unseat the inimitable Elizabeth Dole, one of the 10 most admired women in the world as US Senator.
We’ve warned the NC democrackkk ladies not to get to close to the Cleland chair, risking a frisky under the dress feel! He was KNOWN for that in Georgia!

As mayor she fired her town’s police chief, as governor she fired a respected career law enforcement officer. It looks like the GOP ticket has its own Victor Hill.

Wanted to get back to “By Robby,” above on his prissy comment, regarding democrats. So your saying that Jim Martin and Max Cleland who actually served in the military are prissy, while Saxby the draft dodger is the real man. C,Mon Robby, but I’m guessing it because your a tough talker on the blogs, but a real life wimp yourself!

Draft Dodgers like Chambliss, and hypocrites like Chambliss, should not be representing this great state of Georgia.
Lets have someone who didn’t dodge the Vietnam ear draft, and malign the patriotism of men who fought and sacrificed for the country, like Max Cleland and Martin, and get Saxby back to the rest home. He’s been GOP Goon voting goose-step with the war-mongering W crowd since day one. That’s why they got him elected. Wake up Georgia.

“Billy boy” - You reckon McCain was serving America real well when he crashed four or five planes? Or when his antics on the deck of the Forrestal killed 143…Americans? He’d have been drummed out if he hadn’t been raised on Capitol Hill.
His shootdown was karmic payback through his admitted stupidity and martial incompetence (Viz. “Faith of My Fathers,” McCain).
Was McCain serving the Country when he betrayed his wife, or when he married the Mob?
McCain’s a real “class” act: low class…check out the videos of his touting his wife for sleaze queen at the Sturgis Rally…but what do you expect from a man who married a Mafia frontman’s daughter?

rustylynn, I’ll concede your point about Cleland. It was time for him to go, however, we did not expect Sen. Taxme Shameless to help run the U.S. and Georgia economies into the ground with his income redistribution policies. It is now time for him to go.

Max, Thanks for the endorsement of John McCain. When is Martin going to get it that George Bush is on his way out and he needs to find another windmill to attack. What, oh yeah, right, he doesn’t get it…that’s why keeps running and losing.

rustylynn,
Union perk or what not… What Saxby did was shameful and down right malice. It really demonstrates his shoddiness and corrupt intellectual integrity.
GA has two choices now, Buckley or Martin. Either case, Saxby Chambliss must be ousted.

Here’s the truth:
Saxby lied about Cleland. He accused Cleland of being unamerican while Cleland did his best to simply question why we were rushing into an unjust war. During a time when everyone was blinded by 9/11, Cleland simply asked - let’s stop and consider … and the Republicans and Saxby ran that into the ground. Cleland sits minus two legs and an arm - now here was someone who had sacrificed and this smug red neck slandered him and most of the republican party supported that claim.
Saxby is lying again - this time about Jim Martin. Saxby is a coward and needs to go.

No, here’s the truth… Cleland blew off his limbs playing around with a grenade endangering the lives of his fellow soldiers. He toted the liberal Democrat line as Senator and we sent him packing.
