Oxendine eyes 2012 convention in ATL
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Minneapolis — Georgia Insurance Commissioner John Oxendine wants to explore the possibility of an Atlanta bid for the 2012 Republican National Convention.
Speaking to Georgia delegates to the current convention, Oxendine said between Phillips Arena, the Georgia Dome and the World Congress Center, Atlanta has more than enough facilities. The city has also the hotel capacity to avoid what delegates here face, which is a 30- to 45-minute bus ride to the convention in St. Paul.
“Let’s see if we can go ahead and put a bid together and let’s take a serious look and weigh the options,” Oxendine said. “We can do a better one in Atlanta. Why don’t we take a look at doing that?”
Atlanta last hosted a national party convention in 1988 when Democrats gathered in the city.
The response from delegates at this morning’s breakfast was not effusive, but it came more than an hour into a marathon session.

Oxendine can try to do anything he wants (like this 2012 convention thing) to boost his chances as a candidate for Governor, but Georgians are not going to elect someone to that high office who sounds like Mickey Mouse when he speaks. It’s true!

Not happening. The state GOP hates the city of Atlanta, but now wants to use us for their convention? PU-LEEZE.

Sounds like a plan to me. Can’t wait for the media to stake out all the strip clubs and photograph our “family values” hypocrites as they catch the jiggle and wiggle. Not to mention extra police patrols for the airport mens’ rooms!

They’ll probably hold it in the Cobb Energy Center and then try to say they’re in “Atlanta.”

No matter what your political leanings, you’d have to admit it’d be a great economic boost for the ATL, as members of the party of family values would infuse cash (amongst other things) into bars, booze, strip joints and gay rent boys.

I personally think it would be a good place. We can handle the amount of people and fanfare. It would be good for the GOP to come and be in a city predominately liberal.
