In which Newt Gingrich comes darn close to endorsing Sarah Palin for president
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Former U.S. House speaker Newt Gingrich stopped by Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” last night to defend Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, the governor of Alaska.
Click below to watch.
Here’s a compressed transcript:
Stewart: You wanted Governor Palin three months ago. What is it about her that appealed to you?
Gingrich: I always thought that either [Louisiana] Governor [Bobby] Jindal or Governor Palin, who were young, aggressive reformers, just brought a whole new breath of fresh air and life to the Republican party. We’re at the end of a cycle where people were fed up with congressional Republicans, basically fired them in 2006. If this campaign is about politics as usual, then the fact is that Obama and Biden are going to win.
Stewart: Have they made mistakes in the way they rolled her out? Have they given her a chance to succeed?
Gingrich: Look, I think some people thought, Introduce her, say, with a moose hunt. Or some other uniquely Alaskan thing that she can do that probably Biden couldn’t do. You know, that would have set a different standard. But I think that was going too far.
Stewart: Vote Palin — she’ll bring your insulin over the Northwest Passage to Grandma.
Gingrich: There you go. But I concede that, in this day and age, that’s a bit much.
Stewart: So McCain makes his campaign that Barack Obama is dangerously inexperienced. Then he chooses Governor Palin who — is it because she’s intriguingly inexperienced?
Gingrich: I think he picked Governor Palin because when he starts to talk about her inexperience, running an $11.5 billion state with 15,000 employees compared to a $4.5 million Senate office with 69 employees, you begin to realize —
Stewart: Although he’s run the presidential campaign as long as she’s been governor. Is it —
Gingrich: He’s actually run the presidential campaign seven years longer than she’s been governor.
Stewart: It seems that experience was made the centerpiece of a campaign, and it seems to undercut it ..
Gingrich: Democrats now have to argue that her lack of knowledge and experience for the vice presidency is a real threat in case something happens to McCain. But we’re going to put Obama, who has a similar lack of knowledge and experience in the presidency .You can’t find a single executive decision that either Obama or Biden has made in their entire career.
Stewart: Or that McCain, by that definition.
Gingrich: That’s exactly right.

Explain why Levi Johnston shouldn’t be arrested as a pedophile.
How can she protect the country if she can’t protect her own kids from pedophiles?
This is his second child; the first was with a 13 year old girl. Even by Alaskan standards (which are very loose) that is a bit young.
Sick…. really sick… yea, we want her in the White House. Her and her husband are good evangelicals, and typical of the breed. But lets move on to other issues.
Her husband and daughter: is child #5 really Sarah’s? I don’ believe so after looking at family photos on the internet. The eldest daughter is the mother for sure, but is the father of that child Sarah’s husband? Let’s do a little DNA test.
Will she support states that wish to secede from the United States, since her and her husband were both in a party pushing to have Alaska secede from the Union?
Will she legalize pot since she smokes it herself?
Will she change her position and start supporting unwed mothers, particularly teens so they can finish an education through college?
Last night, this woman was pathetic. What a joke on McCain by his own party.

I cannot believe that anyone is thinking that Palin would be a good vp. Nccain irresponsibly, dangerously picked a vp in hopes of additional votes over the future of our country. Do we want a man like that to run our country?? Do hope the media follows through on her serious shortcomings and the lies she told during her speach. They just have to!! Attack, attack, attack. That is all the pubs can do as they have no accomplishments to run on and their policies have almost destroyed our country,

The left wing and right wing sicken me. The Neo-cons and the radical left need to be cut out of this country like a cancerous growth. I see them all the time “swift boating” each other. What people are saying about that woman’s daughter, her infant, and her parenting skills. That just makes me sick.

Anyone who doubts that McCain is Bush III can safely remove it with Palin….’one of us, kind of dumb, and on the frontier’.
But then again, you don’t really care about truth, do you America, only the Truth that The Party tells you to believe in.
Go ahead and vote for Palin.
China doesn’t care what the Party tells you to believe. The EU doesn’t care what the Party tells you to believe. India doesn’t care what the Party tells you to believe.
America is the greatest nation on Earth but you have to earn success with honest work and honest truth.
But of course The Party doesn’t care about that….because they have Sarah Palin now!
GOD told her that it is His will that a natural gas pipeline be built just like GOD told her she should be vice president.
Clearly God is sending his messages through Talking Points Central.

The liberals on this blog have spittle emanating from the size of their mouths—upset that a woman would have the audacity (one of your favorite words) to run for high office. And I just love it.
Your squealing is like that of a stuck pig and is music to my ears.
I continue to seek B. Hussein Obama’s credentials as a community organizer. What did he accomplish? Specifically, I mean, not just that he “embraced the less fortunate”—whatever that means. Busing people to the benefits line, suing employers, encouraging labor stoppages, organizing pointless marches—which of these experiences translates into qualifications for the presidency? Worried about dealing with China and the EU? Then you should be very worried about Obama’s ineptitude in this area.
Poor people having been voting for Democrats for 50 years. And they are still poor.
Disparage women to your own demise. Disparage Almighty God to your eternal demise.

I wasn’t afraid to call a Black Man (Vernon Jones) was an idiot and I’m not going to let claims of sexism stop me from calling Palin an idiot.
You’re the Orc What is a Community Organizer. You’re the one that only recognizes people who think like you as human.
Lies about what Obama has accomplished will only work with people who don’t think….or who think what you tell them to think.
And as for God…[10] And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. [11] And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. [12] And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. Mathew 24: 10-12.

What is a Community Organizer, PLEAAZE… The question is what has McCain and Palin accomplished? Do you actually think they would do things differently than Bush.. Remember you are the ones that voted for Bush and thought things would get better..look where we are now!! Those two are just a repeat of Bush and I am not willing to accept this again..McCain’s claim to fame is being a hostage and living to tell about it..Palin - Hockey mom, please, she can’t even reach out to all, when I say all, I mean white, blacks, hispanics, all minorities.. What are their plans to help the minorities and the less fortunate. McCain is a joke and he is using this woman as a tag alone to get desperate votes. Can his wife even speak.. One thing for sure she can go straight to the bank and collect. WAKE UP PEOPLE. DO YOUR HOMEWORK AND NOT BELIEVE EVERYTHING YOU SEE OR HEAR ABOUT OBAMA. Research what Obama has done and stop being blinded by Bush clones. LOL.

Palin is not a female W. She is more like an extroverted female Cheney, better even more like a female, 21st century, Andrew Jackson. Damn the Supreme Court and Indian rights - kill ‘em. It’s just that in her case, the “indians” are muslims and black americans you can hate safely in the GOP.

Cheney was smart. Bush was stupid. Palin is stupid.
Cheney likes to shoot people. Bush likes to play Cowboy. Palin likes to shoot Wolves from a helicopter.
Cheney kept his religion to himself. Bush thought believed God spoke to him. Palin believes God wants Natural Gas pipelines.
Two out of three says she’s more like Bush than Cheney.

The liberals are screwed. Palin resonated with the people that make this country work last night. Obama is no longer the fresh face. I am sure that he is still clean and articulate, though. Palin is a game changer and the media and left know it. This is going to get good. We have the Democratic party out there blasting a working mother with a special needs child. We have them trying to argue the race on experience. (That would be easier for them if Biden was at the top of the ticket.) They debate has shifted and the left is scrambling to play catch-up. As a woman voter that was not excited about McCain, I am now.

Wow PLEAAZE,
it’s like you have no idea what you’re talking about at all. Let me tell you something, as someone who has grown to detest both candidates, McCain is not Bush II. Claiming that he is only shows that you don’t know what the hell you’re talking about. It makes you as bad as the people claiming that Obama is the “most liberal man in congress” when his voting record tells a slightly different tale. McCain’s voting record also tells a different tale. He’s a bit hawkish so of course his policies seem to come in line with Bush’s when it comes to waging our wars. But he’s taken a lot of criticism from the right for his bi-partisan efforts and frankly that’s where this whole “Maverick” thing came from. McCain is a social conservative but he’s a far cry from an evangelical Christian and that’s actually a good thing in my book. Bush and Lieberman would never hang out together.. it just wouldn’t happen, but sure enough Old Joe was there for his pal McCain..
While we’re on the subject. Have you looked at Obama’s voting record? In the end he voted for USA PATRIOT, PAA, and the FISA reforms with telecom immunity.. when it comes to eliminating personal liberties it turns out he has been just as effective at following the “homeland security” guff as McCain has. Wait, McCain abstained from voting for the FISA reforms with telecom immunity.. a step that surprised me. It’s not sincere by any means and it’s a strategic “I told you so” vote, but all the same..While I’ll allow that in a lot of cases Obama voted for modified versions of the document that weren’t SO draconian I haven’t exactly seen him rallying forces to repeal those shameful bits of legislation.. Also, Obama said he would oppose telecom immunity and in the end he just said “Let’s trust the audit functions we have in place” which is the opposite of change, it’s more of the same crap.
I don’t like social conservatives like McCain because I’m deeper kind of conservative, the kind who wants the government to mind its own business and keep its moralizing to itself, regardless of what moral code it’s trying to apply on any given day. Neither of them meet that criteria.. In fact, perhaps no president has since when?.. Maybe Jefferson? Jackson? The first Roosevelt? Nah, FDR stole all his ideas for the New Deal.. shrug. I don’t like social progressives like Obama because he’s clearly in favor of installing a nanny state that the citizens have to rely upon. While I admit that sounds good on paper and to most contemporary Americans I have no interest in a loving government. I take my chances with a loving god and we’ve seen how that works out so I’m patently against a government trying to ensure my basic welfare.. they should stick to establishing justice.. or insuring domestic tranquility.. or promoting the general welfare (of the nation, not of a welfare state, that terms didn’t exist until the 20th century)..or providing for the common defense.. or, I dunno, Securing the blessings of liberty for their people and perhaps posterity..
In fact, we should too, because we’ve let the government digress a bit too much and as a result our union is less perfect. You’re not going to get that by voting for McCain or Obama or any of those pigs, but are they to blame? They’re just giving you what you so obviously want.. and they have the marketing research to prove it.

PS: The age of consent in Alaska is SIXTEEN(16) just as it is in most states and on federal installations (as you’d know from the block of instruction on “how not to get arrested for stuff” you had in basic training if you’d ever been enlisted in the US armed forces) in some states it’s higher (16 states, though many of those have the age as SEVENTEEN(17) and a few at the customary EIGHTEEN(18)). Even then a lot of them have exemptions for close ages like 17-18 and 16-18 and whatnot..
but hey, this could all be easily cleared up by doing a little research on the INTERNET. You know, like you should be doing for your candidate instead of just going with whatever they tell you.

Jim, both candidates have their flaws, but if you can’t see the difference between a guy who votes for the FISA capitulation act and a woman who thinks that God’s will is laying down Natural Gas Pipelines I think you need to reexamine the evidence again and ask yourself if you really are being honest or just safely neutral.

There is nothing to worry about with Palin or the gay thing with Obama. The American people just do not know Obama. It is simply time to re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re introduce Obama. Maybe we should have another Convention. Sure it is an out-of-the-box idea, but why not?

During the horrific-to-Republicans Clinton years, I made more money than I’d ever made in my life and things were great for everyone I knew. After nearly eight years of Bush and his neo-con ilk, I’ve been in three job cutbacks, each one leaving me with less money each time. Most recently, our Health Insurance went away, leaving his no choice for now to only insure our children. We’re selling a car to pay for my wife and my insurance for at least a few months, leaving us down to one vehicle and the possibility of losing our home and also filing Chapter 11. THAT’S the reality of Bush America, whether you Republicans care to admit it or not. Generally you won’t admit it. McCain wants patriots, country first people only who agree with him and will surely leave the rest of us in the cold and worse. It’s not country first, it’s family first. I see the possibility of even an uglier America, a corporate-totalitarium state ruled under a veil of happy consumerism and illusions. I’m sick over it.
