A televised rebuttal to Cox’s ‘Smarter Than a Fifth-Grader’ appearance

Once Republicans close shop in Minnesota tonight, the next political drama available to tube-captive Georgians will be the Friday night appearance by state School Superintendent Kathy Cox on Fox’s “Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?”

State Rep. Rob Teilhet, a Democrat from Smyrna, calls the Republican school superintendent’s appearance “ill-conceived, at best.” And he announced Thursday that he’s purchased a 30-second raised eyebrow that will be aired on WAGA-TV sometime during the broadcast.

To watch Teilhet’s spot, click on the box below.

Here’s the script:

“Tonight, Georgia State School Superintendent Kathy Cox will try to prove that she’s smarter than a fifth grader. But even a fifth grader would have to wonder what she’s doing on a game show in Hollywood, while students are struggling here in Georgia.

I’m Representative Rob Teilhet. I believe it’s time to stop playing Hollywood games, and reduce our class sizes, expand pre-kindergarten, and support the parents and the teachers who are working so hard to improve our public schools.”

By Georgia can do better than Kathy Cox

Three of the leading candidates for Governor don’t even have a college degree: Westmoreland, Handel and Cagle. Now Kathy Cox is asked to be smarter than a 5th grader? These people have turned us into George Wallace’s Alabama.

Another yokel looking for his 15 minutes. Heaven forbid that he and his party could come up with some ideas beyond taking public funds and giving them to people who think they are too good for public schools.

Rep Teilhet, the lady goes to H’wood for a couple days to possibly win some $$ for her favorite charity & you want to make some big political deal over it. Get a like & Get over it!

Lighten up? We’re stuck at the bottom on SAT scores and high school graduation rates. We’re requiring kids to pass tests that our schools aren’t preparing them for. Meanwhile the folks under the Gold Dome keep delaying class-size reductions year after year.

When someone calls attention to the fact that Georgia schools are failing in their mission to prepare our children please don’t tell them to lighten up. TELL THEM TO SPEAK UP.

Moderates in the Atlanta suburbs need to wake up and stop voting for Republicans at the state level. Our state is at a crossroads. Republicans in this state are trying to make Georgia more like Mississippi and Alabama. Democrats actually to do something about our transportation and education crisis. If we don’t improve education and transportation or economy is to collapse in the near future.

BTW, our test scores and air quality has gone down under Republican rule. They have no plans other to build roads to nowhere in south Georgia and to balance our state budget on the backs of working Georgians(property tax increase) and our students and teachers.

The fact the top 3 GOP candidates for Governor don’t have college degrees says it all about the state Republican Party.

SHE WON A MILLION BUCKS FOR GEORGIA SCHOOLS!!!

Got crow?

Rob needs to shut up now. The woman won a million dollars which she plans to give back to education in Georgia. Would Mr. Teilhet (whose website is conveniently “unavailable”) give a mil?

Representative Rob Teilhet, Ms Cox brought a $1,000,000 back to further education for some who need it the most. What have YOU done lately? Personally. Don’t you think there has been enough politics in Georgia education in the news without your childish rant?

Representative Rob Teilhet’s comment on the show was ill conceived and very inappropriate! What “game” was he playing? Politics!

By Rob Who?

September 6, 2008 9:46 AM | Link to this

Rob Teilhet actually spent money for the thrill of looking like the biggest jerk in Georgia? Wow! Congratulations to Rob and all his super-proud constituents!

By Really?

Some of you really think that because our state’s highest school administrator was fortunate enough to win a game show that is enough! Fantastic! She wins a million dollars and donates that to some well-deserving schools. Unfortunately, this does not improve one thing for the other public schools in this state while at the same time gives the appearance that rather than taking appropriate action to assist our children; we’d rather send our state school superintendent to a game show designed to make participants look silly. Teilhet may have been playing “politics”, but at least, he wasn’t playing the fool with apparently too much time on her hands.

Rob Teilhet spent over $2,200 on an ad in a bad political gamble. Not too bright for a lawyer and a member of the elite Democratic party establishment. Maybe you should take a clue from your Republican wife. Sorry young Rob but I would not like to be in your shoes when the state house meets in Jan. You simply thought a pair of twos beat a straight. Oh yeah, I have not really seen your name on many ground breaking educational bills or anything else for that matter. I guess Young Master Rob forgot to check the agreement that Cox had worked out to give her winnings to public education in Georgia before he spent the money people had donated for his election ( - - This young man might find it a little difficult to get “Joe six pack” to send you another dollar if this is how he is going to spend it). Finally, see you on the back row in the house in January of 09.

If nominated I will ban book learning, the bible is all you need to raise a child. I would eliminate education. I’m a stupid pig in lipstick and I like it.

Mr. Rob What are you going to run for next? This was a great political statement. State superintendent Kathy Cox wins $1,000,000.00 and donates it to special needs schools, and you…. You spend $2200.00 to critisize her for that. Good luck in your political future. PS can someone help Mr. Teilhet figure out how to remove this from You Tube and all of America’s news paper archives, so he might have a political prayer!!
