Proof that the Palins are an average, American family

His advisors say Republican presidential candidate John McCain knew about this when he named the Alaskan governor his running mate, which might imply that the timing of the announcement — while the nation is focused on Gustav — isn’t an accident:

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — John McCain’s running mate Sarah Palin said Monday that her 17-year-old unmarried daughter is pregnant.

A statement released by the campaign said that Bristol Palin will keep her baby and marry the child’s father.

“Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. We’re proud of Bristol’s decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents,” Sarah and Todd Palin said in the brief statement.

Complete story is here.

The irony: “We’re proud of Bristol’s decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents”, the Palin’s say.

The truth of the matter is the Palins and others of their ilk say young women don’t have the right to make a decision about whether or not they wish to have their babies. Pro-choice is about having the right to make a decision. Hypocrisy reigns.

Keep it up libs. Keep it up. This treatment you are given Palin and her daughter will backfire. Big Time. I know that you are upset that she will not kill her baby by abortion, but it is her “choice” to keep and raise her baby, with its father, and do the best she can. I respect her “choice” and eagerly await the lib, hate-filled attacks on this family. Don’t you guys need the you mother vote? Peace.

If McCain prevails, this means the Clampitts are coming to Washington.

Seriously, is gun-toting Sara the most qualified Republican woman to select for vice president?

McCain’s running mate has spent so much time advancing her career from PTA president to governor that she applauds the fact that her 17-year-old daughter is pregnant.

Is a 44-year-old grandmother with little political experience and questionable parental judgement the person we want to be the next in line behind a 72-year-old who has had cancer four times?

Come on, folks, get serious. The time has come to ignore James Dobson and the fringe right. Sure, McCain has every right to pick a woman, but not this one. An NRA membership and solid anti-abortion credentials are not enough to qualify this pretty lady from the boondocks.

For McCain to win, he has to re energize the republican base, and his pick for vp has created much excitement. Palin, also labeled a maverick and McCain will probably go with the same theme as the democrats did, change. Except McCain will call it reform. Basically, McCain has to prove to everyone that he is not a continuation of Bush/Cheney. Having said that, do you really think Bush and Cheney are going to speak at this convention and tell us how great the last eight years were for americans? Hurricane or not, I doubt Bush and Cheney will speak at the convention because they just remind republicans of the last eight years. This hurricane just gave them an easy out.

From the Anchorage Daily News…

“The state’s leading Republicans are expressing shock and bewilderment over John McCain’s selection of their governor as his running mate:”

“She’s not prepared to be governor. How can she be prepared to be vice president or president?” said Green, a Republican from Palin’s hometown of Wasilla. “Look at what she’s done to this state. What would she do to the nation?”

State House Speaker John Harris, a Republican from Valdez, was astonished at the news. He didn’t want to get into the issue of her qualifications.

“She’s old enough,” Harris said. “She’s a U.S. citizen.”

Ringing endorsements all!

And, McCain .. has great judgement

Name hijacked again. This is a fun game that I know how to play too. Anyway, the libs must be mighty angry that Bristol Palin will not murder her baby with an democrat supported abortion.

Speaking of abortions, I have hope that the Democrat party will eventually abort itself into extinction. Then we will be able to so something about Roe v. Wade. No libs, no opposition. Peace.

So little Britney Palin is pregnant…again. Little harlot popped out one little spawn and turned around and got herself knocked up again. What a round heels…

Five months along my aunt fanny. This one won’t arrive until Feb or March, you just wait and see.

There is no question the Palin’s are prolife. They believe in procreation, too even for their 17 year old unmarried daughter…Apparently Ms. Palin’s daughter did not attend any of the ‘abstain from sex’ programs endorsed my Bush and the Christian right. And, since Ms. Palin does not believe in gun control a shot gun wedding is in order. Maybe they could get CMT to do one of those redneck wedding specials, too. Anc, while some believe Biden to be a losse cannon, I guess Ms. Palin’s daugher is just palin, I mean, plain, loose….

NOVA,

For your information, as a black single mom, Sarah Palin’s teenage pregnant daughter proves a very big point. Having sex and getting pregnant out of wedlock is not a BLACK or LATINO thing, because it happens just as much in the WHITE community.

Just because she is getting married after 5 months of being unmarried and pregnant, doesn’t make her any better than an unmarried black or hispanic mom.

I don’t hold any judgement about what kind of mom Sara Palin is, because I know that this is something that can happen to any mother of a teenage or adult female child.

I do have a problem with the republican party trying to make it look as if this only happens to single unmarried black women, because they do not have a husband in the household.

A young lady can become pregnant when there is a father in the household and it happens very often.

I want to wish Sara and Bristol good luck, but I hope Sara has enough since not to use this as a platform for PRO-LIFE, because her daughter would just become the posterchild for TEENAGE PREGNANCY. The odds are also against this marriage lasting and will just become another statistic.

As for the Evangelical Republicans showing support for this candidate and her daughter, it will only show what everyone else has none for years about this political segment. I will continue to pray that they actually fully understand the meaning of being a Christian.

This just in…..”Palin Was a Director of Embattled Sen. Stevens’s 527 Group”

Yes, that’s right folks this paragon of virtue is listed on 2003 incorporation papers of the “Ted Stevens Excellence in Public Service, Inc.,” a 527 group that could raise unlimited funds from corporate donors. The group was designed to serve as a political boot camp for Republican women in the state. She served as one of three directors until June 2005, when her name was replaced on state filings.

Palin, an anti-corruption crusader in Alaska, had called on Stevens to be open about the issues behind the investigation. But she also held a joint news conference with him in July, before he was indicted, to make clear she had not abandoned him politically.

McCain with the selection of Sarah Palin has turned the tables on himself. It was a poorly thought out desperate choice!

This is a really sad story. A 17- year old is not capable of raising a child. And is too young to be married. She is just a child herself and has her whole life ahead of her. If she had the earlier special needs baby, the probability is high that this baby will also have special needs too. Palin should withdraw, remove this spotlight from her childen, protect and take care of them. No kid should be on the world stage at a time like this.

Time for a little Straight Talk. Who vetted Sarah Palin? No wonder no one wants to go to the GOP convention. This is, of course, a private matter for the Palins, Gerson and the GOP except they also believe they have license to insert themselves into the delicate matters of everyone else.

Aside from any cynacism with regard to the tangled web and it’s failure to really dispel the rumours (a little independent and trustworthy DNA testing could probably do that), here’s what really bothers me:

McCain knew of this and surely Sarah Palin knew of this. Both of them are would-be players on the national political stage with all its glare and the lack of privacy it brings to everyone connected with the candidate and still they thought that having Sarah Palin, despite a lack of other real credentials to succeed McCain if he died, as the VP candidate was a good idea.

Neither of them cared about the feelings of a 17 year and her privacy? Not to mention that of the baby’s father! They decided it was OK to drag these two young people into the glare of a national spotlight. Even if these two are going to get married, this is still embarrassing for them (esp. if they are fundamentalist Christians) and they don’t deserve this.

The Republicans—-particularly their Christian, conservative members—-really tick me off. I’m a Christian myself (yes, there are Democrats who are Christians), and what really irritates me is that now the conservative bloggers are trying to paint Palin and her daughter as saints because they didn’t have abortions. There are lots of women and pregnant teens who don’t have abortions.

What kills me is that Mr. Focus on the FAmily himself still praises her—-but how can she possibly be focused on her family to be running for VP, when she has an infant with special needs and a teenaged daughter who’s pregnant?? Not to mention the other three. Those kids obviously need her more now than the country does, but she’s going to have a whirlwind schedule of campaign traveling. What is the woman thinking?

As a woman, I do believe a woman can be anything she wants. But I DON’T believe a woman—-or a man—-can have it all. There are trade-offs for everything, and at some point everytone needs to decide what their priorities

Let’s see, Sarah Palin may actually be the grandmother of her “son” Trig. Her teen daughter is pregnant (again?) and still unwed. She was for the Bridge to Nowhere before she was against it. She had a police chief fired for not firing her former brother-in-law and is under investigation for abuse of power. Well, as a Democrat I love McCain’s VP choice. In fact, I don’t think I have ever been this happy! And let’s not forget a hurricane comes ashore the day the GOP convention starts taking away nearly all their press attention, except the bad press, they can’t seem to shake that. Yep! Good time to be a Dem. I will enjoy it. Excellent work McCain! If you are elected president I can’t wait to see who you will select as your cabinet members after this very poor choice? This is NOT putting your family first! I bet Romney and the Mormon crowd are livid about McCain’s choice. Mormons totally adhere to the stay at home mom philosophy. No job—NO job—is worth exploiting a vulnerable child in such a fashion, and I think the latest Palin train wreck speaks volumes about Palin and her character, or lack thereof. (While she was busy espousing Abstinence for everyone else’s kids, where was her daughter?!) I am neither shocked nor offended by Bristol Palin’s pregnancy. As you say, it is a problem that many families face. What does shock and sicken me is that Sarah Palin would accept the nomination knowing that it would open her daughter to national scrutiny at a very vulnerable time in her life. It strikes me as unspeakably selfish. Asking for privacy after she opened her children to this seems hypocritical. I look forward to reading your columns because they are grounded in morality. How could you fail to recognize that a parent’s primary obligation to their children is to protect them from those who wish to exploit them. Decision? She made a decision to have the baby? Yet her mother Sarah wants to take away the right of millions of American women to “decide”? It may be true that Obama’s mother was a pregnant teen, but that’s not his platform. He’s a liberal! Palin is supposed to be this ultra conservative woman, yet her daughter is knocked up at 17. And THIS is the average American family (as the AJC says)? How many of you repubs have a preggo teen daughter?

I insist that her “boyfriend” be arrested and tried. There are tens of thousands of men currently incarcerated for the same crime. A handful have committed suicide rather than face prosecution. He should be tried under the same laws passed by the Republicans for “the rest of us” and he should carry the same stigma of a sex offender they have mandated to others.

You must know that what you have posted is utter nonsense. Having listened to the garbage brought forth by the right wing over the past years—yes, remember the one huge, fat broadcaster calling a child named Chelsea Clinton a dog??? I’m sure you know who I mean and, unfortunately, he continues to spew hatred—I must say that you are the worst among us. Oh rest assured, this will make a difference in the election, maybe even the nomination, as will the investigation into the attempt to fire Palin’s state trooper brother-in-law. Hypocrite is the proper word to describe the governor. BTW, too bad the storm isn’t working out for McCain’s desire to broadcast his acceptance speech via television transmission from the Gulf—it would be a real command performance taking full advantage of others’ misery, I’m sure. Supposed maverick McCain’s subservience to the supposed Republican power brokers, too, deserves the same description: hypocrite.

You must realize it’s not the pregnancy that’s the problem; it’s the lack of mothering on the part of her mother. Where were mom and dad? If they have been teaching abstinence only, they obviously didn’t do a good job. Maybe the mother felt being a politician was more important than being there for her teenage daughter.

Regardless, premarital sex and babies born out of wedlock are common today; what makes the difference is that Palin presents herself as part of that evangelistic “righteous” right ready to dictate to ALL women what they can and cannot do with their bodies.

I feel sorry for the baby.

Such a family matter is private — unless you’re running to be VP of the United States! And you’re one step away from being President. Seriously, can anybody view this woman as qualified to be President? And her husband as “First Man”? The Republican apologists are comical: “Oh, this happens to a lot of families! No big deal!” Can you imagine if Obama’s daughter were 17 and pregnant? The Republicans would have a field day. I always hoped the two parties in the U.S. could work out their differences and move the country ahead, but the McCain/Palin ticker looks even more dangerous than Bush/Cheney (something I never would have thought possible), and it’s time to send this two-faced, righteous, self-serving, God-using party out the door

The Presidential candidate’s wife was an ex drug head.

If the role was reverse, the Repub would be all over this. Can you imagine if Michell Obama was an ex addict to prescription drugs or if one of Obama’s daughters were preg.

I love reading the ignorant lefts mindless ranting. The girl is pregnant. She excepts the fact that she is and is doing the RIGHT thing. I mean how many little leftist commi babies are left on the floor of some shady clinic? Oh wait….I know abortion is wrong but if it eliminates little leftist’s commi babies maybe we should be all for it.

And besides here is the difference Bristol Palin will have the child and not depend on the federal government. A follower of Clayton County/Biden would either abort the living human. Or raise it and five others and teach it to MILK federal government for everything.

Why are you liberal’s so filled with hate? Why do you go out of your way to be so evil?

So how long do you think it will be before the Clayton County supporters who left NOLA for DA ATL to stick there hand out and ask for another FEMA check?

I wish the State of Georgia would not welcome these folks with open arms. I mean after Katrina the crime rate has jumped up.

We shall overcome someday…..we shall overcome…we shall overcome…just not NOV. 4th.

I am a moderate woman, and also a mother. I am very upset with Sarah Palin right now, for shoving that poor girl Bristol into the negative glare of the international spotlight.

What kind of mother would do that to her child? One who puts her own personal, blind ambition before the needs of her family, that’s who. I think Sarah Palin is a hypocrite of the highest order.

My thoughts and prayers are with you, Bristol.

Here is why foxnews, and their conservative supporters, are so sad:

“On the pinhead front, 16-year-old Jamie Lynn Spears is pregnant. The sister of Britney says she is shocked. I bet.

Now most teens are pinheads in some ways. But here the blame falls primarily on the parents of the girl, who obviously have little control over her or even over Britney Spears. Look at the way she behaves.”

Thanks Bill O’Reilly. You can read this at: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,317577,00.html

Let’s see what Rush Limbaugh had to say: (http://radioequalizer.blogspot.com/2007/12/spears-pregnancy-news-annoys-talk.html)

“CALLER: Would you tend to think that a family in this position, though, wouldn’t you think that there would be a more watchful eye as a parent to be watching over these kids so this doesn’t happen to them?

RUSH: I would certainly hope so, but it’s long past time for this to happen. The parents here are the culprits!

CALLER: (chuckles)

RUSH: I mean, the parents, they’re infected with this disease, this addiction to fame themselves. Look at Britney’s mom, for crying out loud. “Put me on TV, too! Put me on TV!” You know, celebrity parents, they can go both ways, and some of them lose whatever grounding they had as adults when their kids get famous. They want to be part of it. They like the money themselves. It’s very rare to have celebrity

I certainly feel symphathy for Mrs. Palin’s daughter, the child’s father and the afftected families. This is somomething that can happen to any family, even the best of families. What bothers me is when I hear or read certain politicians, preachers, commentators, and other self-annointed moralists insinuate that irresponsible sex is a consequence of the teaching of liberal values (which means any religious or political view that disgrees with their own).

Okay, Mikey. Sarah Palin says that she and her husband are proud that their princess has chosen (her word) to have the baby. That choice, if she had her way, would no longer exist. By the way, there’s an old reading of the Genesis story that sees Adam’s sin as a good thing because it gave people the choice between right and wrong, without which doing the right thing would be meaningless. But it sure rips the guts out of the abstinence plank, doesn’t it? How many other Republican planks just don’t work?

Sarah Palin had the choice to say no to being a candidate for Vice President and put her daughter first. But no — she’s pushing the poor girl into a hasty marriage and making her an object of international scandal. Humorous though, how this has the Family Values set suddenly scrambling to market teen pregnancy as something positive. Now there’s a McCain caliber flip flop!

Leave the daughter out of it. She didn’t ask for this publicity.

But take Governor Palin to task for knowingly exposing her daughter to this mess.

And for lying. Governor Palin took her daughter out of school five months ago, and her official stated reason was that her daughter had mono. For five months.

Turns out she was pregnant.

That’s lying to the public.

That’s not something we are suppposed to tolerate in our leaders.

And it sure ain’t Christian.

ok people i also have very conservative views but FULLY understand that young people (heck - old people too) don’t always make the best choices that can result in difficult consequences – BUT if my 17-year-old daughter were pregnant (whether she was marrying the father or not) i would want to perhaps stay a little closer to home and spend more time with my family. NOT TO MENTION HAVING A 6-MONTH-OLD BABY. i’ve been the working mother of two and it was often difficult to concentrate on work with a baby - and even now that they are older (9 and 12) as they are involved in many activities. BUT ADD TO THAT HER BABY HAS DOWNS SYNDROME. THIS CONCERNS ME MUCH MORE THAN THE PREGNANT DAUGHTER! i have a very supportive husband but there is NO WAY i would be putting myself in line to the leader of the country (as she very well could be) with my baby having special needs. a woman can most definitely be a viable VP choice but one with more experience and fewer concerns at home would have been a far better choice. as a “conservative” palin’s conservative beliefs aren’t nearly enough to sway me. i need more. i’m sure the nanny services at the white house will be great BUT ….

“Evangelical Christianity (in most modern forms) is not about the achievement of perfection, it is about the acceptance of forgiveness and healing.”

Tell that to the millions of gay Americans that Evangelical Christians have denied health care, visitation rights, survivorship benefits, and hundreds of other basic survivorship tools to.

Evangelical Christianity, in modernI day America, has a huge stain of hate about it.

This girl shouldn’t have to go through this. But her mother made the decision to hide her pregnancy, then launch a campaign for VP. Her mother made this an issue. And it’s her mother’s judgement that is the issue here.

Leave the daughter alone.

But ask the mother why she mislead everyone, claiming the daughter had mono for five months.

That’s the real issue here. Why is it ok for Governor Palin to lie to voters that way?
