McCain confirms: He’ll run with Sarah Palin, the governor of Alaska
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
The campaign of Republican presidential candidate John McCain has just formally confirmed that he’s picked Sarah Palin, the gun-totin’ first-term governor of Alaska, as his running mate.
So McCain has bet the farm on wooing Hillary Clinton voters away from Democratic rival Barack Obama. And, in a way, the New York senator will get her wish. This November election will be all about her.
Here’s Palin’s official biography from the Alaska state web site.
Five kids, one headed for Iraq. Fervently pro-life, but there’s this Wikipedia paragraph:
Palin’s first veto was used to block legislation that would have barred the state from granting benefits to gay state employees and their partners. In effect, her veto granted State of Alaska benefits to same-sex couples. The veto occurred after Palin consulted with Alaska’s attorney general on the constitutionality of the legislation.
You have to wonder what the base will think of that. But here’s one answer:
Sadie Fields, head of the Georgia Christian Alliance, just called to say she’s excited about Palin.
“I really do think this sends a ripple of excitement through conservative grassroots, who have been pretty disengaged and not energized,” Fields said.
“I’m excited. I think that she is not only a wonderful asset to the ticket, in as much as she’s not afraid to be pretty strong. She’s pro-life, pro-family, likes the freemarket in health care. There’s not much to say about her that isn’t good.
“It also begs the question of why Obama didn’t put Hillary Clinton on the ticket,” Fields said.
Then there’s the fact that Palin played basketball and so did Fields. Palin was a beauty contestant, and so was Fields .
Palin’s got a reputation as something of a reformer in her state, but one focus of Democrats is likely to be a small scandal that broke earlier this month. This from the Anchorage Daily News:
Gov. Sarah Palin has placed one of her aides on paid leave until an investigator finishes looking into accusations her team broke ethics or personnel rules.
The investigation stems from Palin’s July firing of Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan. Monegan later said he felt pressured by the governor’s office to fire Palin’s ex-brother-in-law, Mike Wooten, a trooper who had been locked in a child-custody battle with Palin’s sister.
Palin last Wednesday revealed a phone call made by her boards and commissions director, Frank Bailey, to a trooper lieutenant.
In the call, Bailey lists various complaints about Wooten and says the governor and her husband couldn’t understand why he still had a job. The governor admitted the call could be perceived as her office pressuring the Public Safety Department, but says that’s not what actually happened.

McCain picks a woman and from a state that does not even matter! Obama had the strongest woman candidate from a large state and he didn’t pick her. McCain just threw in the towel. What an idiot!

What a GREAT move by McCain!! She is smart, well spoken, pretty and will be VERY hard to attack! So, Obama picks the Washington insider man and MCCain picks the smart, attractive, fresh woman…..so much for “Mr. Change”

So, after bashing Obama on experience, McCain picks someone who’s been governor of ALASKA for a year and a half. This is an obvious pander to the ever-decreasing number of Hillary holdouts. We’ll see what they think when they realize that both McCain and Palin are anti-choice.

Now maybe we will get to begin drilling in the Gul Island oil reserves where there is enough gas and oil to supply the US for a very, very, VERY long time. Those reserves are projected to be larger than all the oil in Saudi Arabia. For those who don’t know think Alaska makes a difference - that is what the “off shore” drilling issue is all about.

Let’s keep our eye on the ball - there is only one question we Democrats want to ask Governor Palin: if you become President in the next few years, which policies of the Bush-Cheney administration would you continue, and which policies would you discontinue or substantially alter?

I have been name hijacked by some scared lib. Good. This choice is a political masterstroke! Palin will siphon off a ton of Hillary voters. And guess what? Obama is getting no coverage on his big speech last night. Palin has more experience than Obama. Great pick Senator. This changes everything. The libs are upset by this choice and they will alienate half of the electorate with the way they will treat her. By the way, Biden will need to watch his attitude. Lest us not forget what happened to Rick Lazio when he debated Hillary. Peace.

This is clearly a pandering, running scared choice on the part of McCain. I’ll be willing to bet that if reporters would dig around, they would also find this is a last-minute choice heavily influenced by the success of the Democratic convention this week. It’s a hilarious hail Hillary pass, and even the Clinton lovers will not be impressed. Republicans just look so Old School. Let’s see, wasn’t it as long ago as 1984 that Democrats were bold enough to put a woman up in the VP slot? And how about those crowd shots today in Dayton? Overwhelmingly white. Ya gotta admit: the diversity in Denver is much more reflective of what America is really like in 2008.

Hey baby…. Barry White music plays low in the background. Come here often? Shhh….don’t tell me. I can see from the look on your pretty face you’re hurting. Did somebody treat you wrong, baby? You can talk to me. I respect women… See? I picked one as my running mate. No, she doesn’t have the same qualifications as your girl who didn’t get picked. She’s a good girl, though. Fertile and dedicated to bearing fruit. Feminine women are the ones that count. Mmmmm, mmmmm, mmmm… Now dry your tears, baby, slide on over here, and give your vote to ol’ McCrusty….. kissy noises uhhhhuhhhhuhhhh…..

Amazing Dems are hitting Palin on “inexperience” when the top of their ticket is nothing but inexperience. Palin brings much more to the table than Barry could dream of. As for representing middle America, Palin far better does this than Obama. He thinks middle America is bitter but claims to be one of them. Try being the daughter of school teachers, wife of a fisherman, union member, and mother of 5. She has YEARS more experience in the executive and has a history of fighting corruption and ethics lapses. More Americans can relate to the hunting/fishing type like her than leftist college professor, Jesse Jackson activist Barry Obama.
So by all means. Please talk about her “inexperience”. This ticket together covers a more broad demographic than the previous 5 Democratic ones.

Truth no need for the personal attacks I haven’t made any comments about you.
You said:
They are a human life at the point of conception! That is the way GOD made it and that is the way it is.
So when you now say:
Those are acts of nature not murder by another human
Yes but God is murdering through nature. That was my point.

She is no Hillary Clinton. If this pick was to win over Hillary fans then I’m not sure he made the best pick! And the scandel! She had her sisters husband terminated from his job because of a messy divorce and her office is under investigation for it right now. This is who he picked! She just had a baby in April with Downs Sydrome and she went back to work after only 3 days! COME ON NOW! And next she wants to be VP. Clearly we know what is important to her and it is not her new born Downs Sydrome baby. I think this seals the deal for Obama to win. Please vote Obama!!

I’m sure all the women who voted for Hillary want an all American “girl” to vote for. Come on Sarah is cute and a beauty queen like John’s other wives and I’m sure the base of the republican party will love her. But don’t we(the other 70 %) of Americans deserve better than a no experience governor of a tiny state(less people than Atlanta)with a big surplus from selling their natural resources. Exactly what is she going to provide us with. You have a possible president whose has lived longer than both his father and grandfather yet thinks so little of our government he would leave a rank amater to lead. If you didnot have a reason to not vote for John McCain that alone should be enough.

Your party is divided. In spite of the speechifying, you know that not all Hilllary voters are ready to give her a chance on 2012. Now,. those women have a reason to support J. McCain in November. I understand that libs the country over are upset. I would be too. McCain’s pick energizes the base. Polls will shift. I know it. You Know It. America Knows it. Peace.

McCain just can’t stop himself. He has chosen yet another beauty queen contestant like his first and second wife. What happened to substance and real achievement with experience? I think McCain has nothing but contempt for women except to be used. But that is the lot of being a hot shot pilot.

The contempt from “conservatives” is discouraging in the face of all of the complexities we all, as americans, are challenged with in today’s world. Being self-rightous does not make you right, insulting is not the same as communicating, and finally, arrogance is not the same as being self-assured (as a result of triumphing over tribulations). “Moral Authority” is a dangerous assumption at best and a deadly declaration at worst. It is amazing to witness the amount of fear and hatred oozing out of every breath of many “so-called” conservatives. Why? What has been done to these people to make them so angry? At the heart of the old conservative philosophy was the fear that change could bring about end of our society. It was this fear that motivated them to try and prevent interacial relationships and integration. While unjust, it was at least clearly defined. This is what puzzles me, fear of certain changes has turned into phobia of anything or anyone different from the pack. Deseparation, not determination, drives them deeper and deeper towards denial of the facts. How can you unthinkingly take a message of hope and twist it into hatred so easily. Lets back up for a second, let talk abortion for a second. It is not part of our Natioin’s agenda to want to “murder babies”. The reason it is leagal is literally to help save the lives and reproductive bodies of young girls and women from barbaric, back alley butchering during which less than qualified people tried to abort pregnancies with inadequiate training and tools resulting in sterility and/or death for the female. We have a great responsibility to bear witness and testify to the abortion debate, but DO NOT STOOP TO INSULTS, INNUENDO AND FALSE ACCUSATIONS JUST TO ATTEMPT TO MAKE A POINT. The stakes are to high to get this issue and many others wrong. So please everyone come back to the table, there is always room for moderation and improvements in all laws, procedures and relationships. Remember: Other intolerant people in other times in other governments have committed terrible atrocities under the guise of moral authority, only to one day realize that they had become one of the “others”.
