Carter: Party will unite
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
By Aaron Gould Sheinin — asheinin@ajc.com
Denver — Former President Jimmy Carter told Georgia’s delegation this morning that while the Democratic Party has been divided, that will all change Thursday night.
“Our party has been divided now because we had two formidable, equally balanced and equally attractive candidates,” Carter told a joint breakfast meeting of the Georgia and Alabama delegations. “I would predict to you that by tomorrow night we will have a totally united party.”
Tomorrow night, of course, is when Barack Obama accepts the party’s presidential nomination. Hillary Clinton, the runner-up, did much to help unite the party with her speech to the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday, Carter said.
Carter also challenged Georgia to get to work.
“Above all I want Obama to be the next president,” he said. “But my next hope is that Barack Obama will carry Georgia. And that’s up to you.”
Carter said he knows the danger of a divided party. He called himself “the world’s foremost expert on divided parties. One time to my advantage.”
That time was 1976 when Republicans left their convention split, even though Gerald Ford secured the nomination. A sizable faction backing Ronald Reagan remained to the side and Carter won the presidency that fall.
In 1980, he said, division worked against him.
“Some of you were at that convention when I got the nomination and in front of all the nation’s tv cameras Teddy Kennedy refused to shake my hand,” Carter said. “And from then until November that group of Democrats never gave me their support. Reagan got less than 51 percent but I lost because Democrats didn’t support me from that wing of the party.”
Still, Carter said, “I’m not complaining about that. I have had a good life since then. But I believe that shows I’m the world’s foremost expert on divided parties.”

Who gives a rat’s a* what that loser says or thinks? He’s an absolute embarrassment to the state. I’m surprised his wimp a* isn’t overseas coddling some tinhorn dictator or acting like he’s negotiating some joke of a nuclear arms proliferation treaty with N. Korea.

As long as Redumblicans keep saying how Bush is the best thing since sliced Bread (see McCain) then they have no business saying anything about Carter.
Bush is a bigger loser than Carter ever was.

Rehabilitated and remarried?!!!!
You mean like: McCain, Guiliani, Gingrich and a whole slew of others?!
Definition of Redumblican=Only cares about military service if you’re a redumblican, otherwise its something to make up Swift Boat Ads about. And Marriage only matters if you’re a Democrat.
And how can you call anyone a loser ever again after you had Bush?
That’s the whole problem, you CAN’T call Bush a loser which is why I can never be a Redumblican.

Under the U.S. Constitution, Bush's primary role is that of Commander-N-Chief, a role he has performed admirably. No attacks since 9/11. Not one hit on American soil..I am a realist. I give him an A...By dittohead

By Dittohead…The powers and duties of the President include: carring out the nation’s laws, issuing executive orders, appointing cabinet members and other officials, exercising final authority over all military matters, representing the whole nation, dealing with foreign countries, appointing ambassadors, making treaties, supporting fellow party members in election campaigns, appointing judges to the Supreme and other federal courts, proposing legislation, preparing a federal budget, approving or vetoing legislation.
You have to know the duties of the President to effectively determine whether or not he has done a good job.

Hey Copyleft isn’t it funny how Republican criminals are thrown in jail or if being caught of some impropriety they resign unlike the scum in the Democrat Party!?! I mean hell being caught with $90,000 in your freezer or being heard on microphone saying you’re not ready to take a bribe “at this time” during the ABSCAM sting (John Murtha) is like a resume enhancer for Democrats!

Carter is irrevalent. He had the opportunity, as a past President, to be magnanimous. But he blew it just as he blew his Presidency and the days following jaunting around the world trying to convince madmen and murderers to be nice. He is a loser, big time. To accuse McCain of milking his POW status is beyond forgiveable. I didn’t hear Carter say anything about John Kerry when he trotted out his Swiftboaters on stage at the 2004 Dem Convention. And trust me, John Kerry was not as good as a pimple on a Marine’s backside. Carter is a partisan hack.
