Barnes was vetted … sort of

By Aaron Gould Sheinin asheinin@ajc.com

Denver — A rumor floated through the Georgia delegation this past weekend that former Gov. Roy Barnes was vetted by the Barack Obama campaign last week.

The juicy story was that before picking U.S. Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.) to be his running mate, Obama had Barnes checked out as a possible VP pick.

Like many such stories, this one had a kernel of truth, Barnes and the Obama campaign said.

While he was not being vetted as VP, the Obama campaign said, Barnes was being checked out to be an Obama surrogate.

Tuesday morning, Barnes confirmed that.

“I know they want me to be available to respond to whomever (Republican candidate John) McCain chooses as vice president,” Barnes said before speaking to the breakfast gathering of the Georgia delegation.

Why is the MSM (and the AJC) ignoring the lawsuit that was filed last week in PA by a Clinton supporter alleging that BO was actually born in Kenya?

This seems to be receiving the same treatment by the AJC as the Edwards affair

Pompano, Barack was born in Hawaii. If you don’t believe it, check his birth certificate. It’s at factcheck.org. If you want to disagree with Obamao regarding his policies, do so. If you don’t want to vote for him, then don’t. But stop repeating Jerome Corsi-fueled lies about his birth.

Umm, because it’s another pathetic lie with no supporting evidence whatsoever?

How SHOULD the media cover it—along with the Flat-Earth Society and the Heaven’s Gate theories?

Obama is a sleeper Muslim. I noticed his faith was not mentioned at all last night. He is trying to hide his Muslim leanings.

Obama surrogates are all veted, don’t know how or why the hell State Sen. David Adelman got on the list. I am here at the Devener convention I am a delegate from Fulton county and we had a meeting Monday the Georgia delegation and you should have seen this guy Adelman trying to take credit for putting Georgia in play.

I was a volunteer and worked closly with 90% of the staff and elected. They all think this guy is a joke.

If you botherd to watch the convention, and to actually listen to the speeches, esp Michelle Obama, you would know that she used Christian themes. She stated God Bless America.

It has always been very interesting to me how so many people will find lies more comforting than the truth. It is so much easier for some to believe that Obama is a muslim, that way they can just not vote for him because he doesn’t believe like them.

But he does.

The biggest problem with Barack Obama right now is the fact that he is Black. Not that he is a muslim, because he is not. Not that he was born in Kenya, because he was not. The one thing that he cannot change is the fact that he is black. That he cannot deny.

Now will he be good for America, yes he will. And if there is a concern that he will press only for the issues that concern African Americans, then think about this. He has to get those agendas through congress and the senate. So if that is all that he is going to do, those bodies wouldn’t let it got through. It’s called checks and balances.

Lets get passed the race thing, and move on to the Dream that MLK envisioned for America. We deserve better, and lets believe enough in the future to expect better in Barack Obama.

Um, Pompano, even if he was born in Kenya…so what? His mother is an American citizen so that makes him an American citizen, by definition…no matter WHERE he was born.

Now, if you can prove his mother wasn’t actually an American citizen…then you might have something.

A friend of mine was born and raised in Mexico. Her mother was Mexican. Her father, however, had been born and raised in Texas. As a result, this friend of mine is an American citizen.

Pressf I’m tired of being labeled a racist because I don’t support Barak Obama. I don’t support him because of his lack of experience and substance. He was running for President the day he was elected to the Senate. He has gone from the corrupt world of Chicago and Illinois politics straight to the national stage with no governing or legistative experience based on charisma and well-vetted message alone. I’m in marketing - I know spin and I know substance. And call me ignornant, but from my limited point of view of a white Southerner who has never lived the African American experience, but how is it that African Americans support him as one of their own when he has no roots in their culture … if it were me I would want the first African American President to be a man (or woman) who is truly a product of that culture and its uniquly defining experience. But what do I know? I’m a white girl and I’ve become a racist after fighting my whole life to not be limited by my culture and judge on character and not skin color.

I am not at all surprised by any of the underlying themes that we’ve run across so far, during this presidential campaign. As for the ‘lies’ that everyone enjoys spreading, it seems that tactic has worked so well for this country in the past…

Becca,

I am not calling you a racist based on you beliefs about the candidate. I was referring to those who would rather believe lies regarding his religion and his birthplace. If you believe that he is not the candidate for you based on your own research, then fine that is your belief and you should vote based on that. But let it be your research. Let it be facts that compel you not hearsay and fallacy.

With that said, I stand by my previous post. Let’s move past the veiled racism, and find a common ground so that we can secure a better and brighter future for all of our children.

Becca, word. Face it though, this is a sexist world more than it’s a racist world. Every race, creed, religion, and culture is sexist. Even modern liberal Americans who think they aren’t — who have no problem with female authority figures — are still sexist because they’ll judge HER by standards they’ll never use on HIM. Next time someone calls you a racist, call them a misogynist. May or may not be true, but it makes about as much sense.

I’m voting for Obama, though. After he wins, I DARE ‘em to pull that race card BS on me. That day is gonna be fun. 1-20-2009: Race card goes away in America. Free at last! Free at last! Don’t even TRY it, sucker!

Ah Jen, you’re not really up on these things. There is a difference in being an American Citizen and meeting the qualifications for running for Prez.

As for BO’s mama’s citizenship, only natural born citizens or those born on foreign soil whose birth mother is at least 19 years of age qualify. BO’s mama was 18 at the time of his birth.

You should read the lawsuit - it’s all covered.

As for April - I’m not the one who filed the suit - it was filed by a DEMOCRAT! Your side is the one leveling this charge - and they do assert that the birth certificate is a forgery in the lawsuit.

By Fulton…The “lie spreading tactic” of the Republicans is not working this time around because of the active “truth squad army.” Who are they? They are the informed posters on this blog, in social settings, and elsewhere confronting and challenging the lies and liars when they surface. This unexpected response is driving the exploiters crazy.

There will be those who will not acknowledge the truth if it knocked them down. Do not waste your time on them. Then, there are those open to enlightenment…try to educate and inform. The aim is not to let the lies and liars go unchallenged.

Faith voters please be reminded that faith is about “knowing and feeling.” You have to know the scriptures inorder to know how to govern yourself for the glory of God. So it is with citizenship, you have a moral duty to seek the truth inorder to make an informed choice.

Pompano, I’m aware that Philip Berg filed the lawsuit. Anyone can file a lawsuit. Proving its merit is another matter altogether. I’ve read the lawsuit. I’ve seen two photocopies of Obama’s birth certificate as well as a newspaper announcement of his birth that ran shortly after he was born. Jerome Corsi’s story would be a compelling narrative if it were true. It’s not. Philip Berg may be a registered Democrat BUT he is definitely not part of “my side” as you indicated in your post. Let’s just come out in the open and support or not support Obama or McCain. But we don’t have to hide behind lies and misrepresentations to explain our preference for one and our rejection of the other.

Pompano, the problem with Berg’s frivolous lawsuit is that Barack WAS BORN ON AMERICAN SOIL. And if you Google Philip Berg, you’ll find that he’s a discredited whack job based on prior incidences. But you’ll believe what you want to believe about Obama. Disagree on policy. Even say out loud that you won’t vote for him because he’s black. But for God’s sake, quit making crap up. We can respect honesty.

Since we are talking about records, has anyone found W’s “lost” Air National Guard records? By the way, has anyone noticed what the last 2 Republican candidates were doing at age 40? W was in an alcohol intervention program and McSame was chasing young rich blondes in preparation for leaving his family.
