The power of text-messaging

Sometime this week, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has promised to let supporters know via text message who he has selected as his running mate.

It’s a mutual exchange. Texters get the info. The Obama gets their contact information for the fall campaign.

The maneuver is receiving some kudos from David All, the former communications director for U.S. Rep. Jack Kingston (R-Savannah), who now has a firm that specializes in new media communication.

The Associated Press distributes these quotes from All today:

“What Obama is creating is this army of individuals, these grass-roots activists, who are out there trying to change the world in 160 characters or less,” said David All, a Republican strategist who specializes in technology.

All said he remains concerned that [John] McCain’s campaign and many Republicans are overlooking the potential of text messaging.

“Text messaging is really powerful. If I have a text message, I can forward that text message to over 100 people in my cell phone list,” All said. “It’s going to be read by every single person — have you ever not read a text message?”

I don’t want a text message from Obama, he’s a liberal wacko.

I want a call from President Elect John McCain!

Vote McCain!

Hey Tom Ga, if you are of draft age and McCain wins, the biggest call you’re likely to get is from your draft board. Be careful what you wish for.

Tom Ga Hunter, If you and the people that you know and care about are better off now than they were 8 years ago, then please vote for John McCain. John McCain promises more of the same failed policies of George Bush. George Bush has been a monumental failure both at home and abroad. For the first time in my memory, people outside the US, actually hate us. We are also not attracting investment from outside. Thanks George! If anyone is stupid enough to fall for ridiculous statements such as “fight ‘em over there, so we don’t have to fight ‘em over here”, well, John McCain is your man! He is an idiot in the same vein as George and is proof that one doesn’t need brains to be worth hundreds of millions of dollars. John McCain is for sale to the highest bidder. His response to the Georgia crisis is based on his campaign manager’s lobbying commitments to that country. John McCain has the brains of a rocking horse!

(1) McCain rocks my socks off! (2) All you Democrats on here post is lies and personal attacks (3) Say something positive for a change (4) Bottom line - McCain and Chambliss stand for more domestic oil supply, Obama and Martin stand in the way of that. (5) By the way, the College Republicans trounced the big labor hired goon protestors at the McCain event on Monday. Obama has no youth movement in Georgia.

Here’s my take on why Obama’s VP text message announcement is smart politics and good business. http://tinyurl.com/67u3nh
