Obama campaign set to release TV ad linking McCain, Reed

A newly aggressive Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is set to release a new TV ad in Georgia tomorrow, drawing a connection between Republican John McCain’s decision not to call Ralph Reed before a Senate panel — and Reed’s involvement in an Atlanta fund-raiser for McCain this week.

The ad will run only in Atlanta, beginning Thursday. The Obama campaign wouldn’t give the size of the buy. Click on the image below to see it.

Here’s the script:

”It was one of Washington’s biggest scandals. And the Republican power broker Ralph Reed was in the middle of it. In deep with convicted felon and lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

“But when the Senate investigated, the senator in charge never even called Reed to testify….And that senator? John McCain. And who’s now raising money for McCain’s campaign? Ralph Reed. For 26 years in Washington, John McCain’s played the same old games. We just can’t afford more of the same.”

Though the message is obviously different, the McCain-Reed ad appears to fit into the context of this New York Times story from today:

Senator Barack Obama has started a sustained and hard-hitting advertising campaign against Senator John McCain in states that will be vital this fall, painting Mr. McCain in a series of commercials as disconnected from the economic struggles of the middle class.

Mr. Obama has begun the drive with little fanfare, often eschewing the modern campaign technique of unveiling new spots for the news media before they run in an effort to win added (free) attention. Mr. Obama, whose candidacy has been built in part on a promise to transcend traditional politics, is running the negative commercials on local stations even as he runs generally positive spots nationally, during prime-time coverage of the Olympics.

By way of background, when the Senate Indian Affairs Committee chaired by McCain was looking into the Abramoff affair, whether to call Reed to testify was hotly debated among Republicans on the committee. The decision not to do so was based on the belief that Indian tribes were not defrauded by Reed’s actions. The tribes got what they paid Reed for — armies of Christian opponents to nearby gambling operations that would cut into the tribe’s business.

One Republican insider privately said that any fraud Reed committed was against the Christian troops whom he rallied — without informing them who was paying the bill. That wasn’t the business of the Indian Affairs Committee, the insider said.

Obama has been linked to so much corruption in the Chicago political machine its beyond comprehension. If McCain really wanted to attack Obama there is so much out there the media isn’t telling us, McCain would win overwhelmingly.

This one needs a WAY more ominous underscore. Too wimpy-washy. One thing Republican operatives DO know how to do is use some of that ominous underscore product in their attack ads. Need a dirty ad? Call one of those many Republican “strategists” to handle a dirty negative ad chore. Lord knows there are plenty of ‘em running around Georgia. Reed himself comes to mind!

It’s so funny how scary the Democrats think lil ole Ralph Reed is! However if Obama wants to get into the game of linking so-called “unsavory” characters to a candidate (not that I personally think Ralph Reed is unsavory) he better hold on to his underoos when McCain or the RNC runs ads about his involvement with Tony Rezko, Rev. Wright, and home grown terrorist Bill Ayres of the Weather Underground just to name a few. Ohhh, this ought to be fun! What’s more interesting is despite Obama’s near messianic image, the hundreds of millions more in ca$h he and the left wing advocacy groups have amassed, and the full backing of the liberal media he rarely pulls ahead of McCain outside the margin of error. In fact today Zogby has McCain ahead by 5 points. The state by state polling should give McCain something to smile about as well.

Personally, I can’t stand Ralph Reed, and I was thrilled he got slaughtered in his race for lt. governor in 2006. However, this ad seems like a real stretch to me. I’m undecided between McCain and Obama at this point, but it seems to me that Obama should focus on real issues, not stupid sideshows like this.

Oh please, you can name Rezko all you want…and a minister? LOL…no, McCain doesn’t want to go there or else some individual will be on the news talking about how their little old parents died penniless from the S&L scandals of the 80s…did ya forget Charles Keating there Robby?? Of course you did. Oh wait, didn’t Phil Gramm invest in….(gulp) porn movies? Yep, this is an economic adviser. Put your money in “Debbie Does Everybody”, excellent returns. No, I don’t think McCain can really go down the road of trying to tie Obama with people with nefarious business activities because his record is very tainted…just look at the Senate Ethics Committee records.

Though I have never voted for a republican candidate in the genreal election, I have always considered the republican (and democrat for that matter) candidate to be pretty intelligent. I could truly reduced or differences to politics not intelligence. No matter what Obama says or does, McCain is still a white guy, and unfortuntely that still counts for something by itself. As evidence by us having voted a qualified idiot to successive terms. An African-American of GW Bushs caliber, never would have made it to IOWA. At the end of the day McCain still has a big joker.

Yeah. Using sleazy means to get your opponents out to win office. Bill Ayers. Wright. Pfleger. Rezko. The list is endless.

The ironic part is Mr. Squeaky Clean I’m Above Petty Politics is now just flopping around in the mud. What happened to Mr. Nice Guy? Wow. So negative. So angry. So bitter. Looks like all Obama can run on is linking McCain to Bush and then to Reed. Funny story. McCain’s invetigation of Abramoff is what sunk Reed’s run for office. But yet Obama runs these crap ads and then says McCain would rather talk about Paris and Britney than the issues. Pot calling kettle black here.

Robby You really have to stretch your imagination to link a 4 year old Obama to Bill Ayres. Just how much kool-aid have you been drinking?

I think that reminding people of the control that lobbiests like Jack Abramoff had is a good thing for Obama to do.

However, here’s my concern. The Democrats will take control of the Senate, as well as expand their control of the House. If they win the White House too, then I’m afraid that they will be come just as corrupt as the Republicans. Well, just as corrupt might be hard to duplicate, but Democrats have pockets too, and that means someone’s going to put their hand in that pocket with money.

I believe in the system of checks-and-balances. This means power-sharing.

Face it: Republicans respect testosterone, though they whine and yell “no fair!” when it’s used against them. But play fair and they’ll call you the world’s biggest wuss.

Looks like Obama’s not going to wuss out and be nice like his predecessors. Looks like he’s not afraid to bring a gun to a knife fight. Looks like McSame might just get his a— kicked. Good. Respect THAT, y’all.

Get Real- Newsflash!!! The Socialists did indeed take control of the Senate AND the House after the mid-term elections. You’re quite right that Obama was probably in some Indonesian madrasah when Ayres was setting off home made bombs but he sure thought enough of him to seek his blessing when running for that state senate seat back in ‘98! And unfortunately you’re probably right that the Sissycrats will pad their majorities in both houses this election cycle which is why I pray McCain prevails or this country will be indistinguishable from France in a matter of years. But let your hearts not be troubled kiddies! We’ll have the Nannystate to take care of all our lil ole needs and ensure income distribution for all!!! “To each according to his ability, to each according to his needs!” Karl Marx would be proud!

The only difference between ‘w’ and McSame is that one doesn’t know he’s a loser and the other brags about being one.

The last thing this country needs right now, especially in light of Russia’s giggle at our pitiful attempt at ruffling any feathers we might have left – the very last thing we need right now is to line up behind someone who boasts about having once been shot down and captured. Eight years of losing is enough.

Do you actually even know what a liberal is? Because if you do, then you must realize that there aren’t many true liberals left on the political scene in either party. Most of today’s Democrats, including both Barak Obama and Hillary Clinton, would have been classified as moderates in the ‘60’s and ‘70’s. Of course, the Rushies and Savages of talk radio know that. Terrorist attacks, trillion $ budget debt (when starting with a surplus), foreclosures left and right, gas at a all time high, become second fiddle to China, unemployment and underemployment off the charts, financial ruin of Fannie Mae and bail out of Bear Sterns, etc, etc. And lets not get started on the state of our civil liberties and privacy. The fellow has no experience to speak of and the only reason he has coe as far a he has is simply beause becasue of his family tree. Neither McCain nor Obama can do anything to change who their parens were or are.

If Reed was so innocent, why not call him to testify and let him tell his story under oath? … It is beyond hypcritical for the Insider to say Reed did nothing wrong after all the articles he wrote about these hearings at the time. Google and see what I mean.

OBAMA ADS GO NEGATIVE … Well, I guess the messiah is just a two bit politician after all. Obama’s supporters complain that Americans are too stupid to choose a candidate based on issues, but they stick with Obama, even after he has flip flopped on all the issues … as if to say “I will continue to support Obama, no matter what he says, does, or believes. Blind loyalty is what’s really stupid.

Obama is a sleeper Muslim. I do not believe that he is a Christian. How could he be? He sat in Rev. Wright’s church for 20 years. That “brand” of religion is anything but Christian. He joined that Church to advance his political career. Obama is a fraud all the way around.

Sam, please… How many people do you think ACTUALLY LISTEN when they’re sitting in a church pew? Will you claim there are no “frauds” in YOUR church? Heh. Really, dude. Get a hobby or something.

Clueless Democrats, out of touch with politics until Hussein Obama came along have no cluse as to how stupid they sound when they say McCain is four more years of Bush. To support Hussein is showing your ignorance in the first place, saying this just digs your hole of stupidity even deeper. Obama is tanking in the polls, even with his rock star treatment and all the Hollywood hype machine backing him. He is a wounded man that will NEVER be President. Get over the little fantasy that we’ll elect this anti-American Muslim, it just won’t happen. Hussein Obama will never be President and you’re stupid beyond words to think otherwise.

Hey DeKalb Voter! Nice one, Einstein. “stupid…. stupid…. stupid….” Utterly convincing. Get thee unto a clue. You don’t think Obama’s the Anti-christ, do you? Now today, it’s a whole new ballgame. McCain can’t remember how many houses he owns and Obama’s hitting hard. Your Gay Old Party is doomed.

Last time I checked, hundreds of thousands of human beings were not slaughtered because of Bush.

It’s only hundreds of thousands? The usual tally is 800,000 innocent woman and children—-slaughtered at that. America would have to have slaughtered 400 innocents a day for 5 years—-every day. Nonsense, very few civilians have been killed.

Hundreds of thousands have been slaughtered because of radical Islam and lib politicians the world over. Bush is fighting this threat. Yes, people die in war but the Islamo-facists do not care. We must confront them now, or the enire globe will pay later. And don’t give me this blame America first garbage. This country is the the reason that millions of people al over the world have freedom. Why don’t you libs just admit that you hate this country and get it over with? Peace.

f*** socialism, it ruins everyone because the government has to become inefficient for it to work. millions of people working all payed through taxes and then taxed themselves. How does this make any sense? Privatization made the US rich, now you want to do away with it. Thats so f*** stupid.

Take responsibility for yourselves. Don’t be a victim. Do things yourself. Don’t beg for things. Don’t take what other people have to work to produce just because you are lazy. Even if you vote it into law peacefully, its still wrong to steal.
