Westmoreland on a 2010 race for governor: ‘We’re thinking about it’
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
U.S. Rep. Lynn Westmoreland, who has spent much of this week in Washington fomenting a Republican revolution in the House, has been much less verbal when it comes to the topic of running for governor in 2010.
He’s often mentioned as a potential candidate, but has largely managed to avoid public discussion. Until now.
After a luncheon speech at Eagle’s Landing Country Club in Stockbridge, Westmoreland said the idea of living in the Governor’s Mansion had crossed his mind.
“Politics is all about timing and two years in politics is a long time,” he told my AJC colleague Ben Smith. “We’re thinking about it.”
Westmoreland does have opposition in the general election. His district leans Republican, but even so, if he’s running for governor, the former state House minority leader will want to make a good showing.
State Insurance Commissioner John Oxendine, a fellow Republican, is the only announced candidate thus far. Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle is expected to announce next month. Westmoreland, like Secretary of State Karen Handel, expects to wait until after the November elections to make a decision.

Congressman Westmoreland cosponsored a bill to place the Ten Commandments in the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate. He also sponsored a bill that the Ten Commandments could be displayed in courthouses in a historical setting. In May of 2006, Stephen Colbert interviewed Westmoreland for The Colbert Report show segment “Better Know a District.” The congressman was only able to name three of the 10 Commandments he sought to legally put in public display. D’OH!

OK Mr. Westmoreland, drilling offshore will save me a couple of pennies on the gallon, but will help big oil refurbish their yachts.
Thanks for looking out for us ‘little guys’, loser.
Who needs al qaeda when you have the republicans????????

TW…
Based on your comment it is clear that you have no concept of basic economics. Drilling off the continental shelf will increase supply thereby decreasing the cost of oil. It will also enable the US to become independent of foreign oil. Which even if the cost of oil did not drop 1 penny the decreased dependency on foreign oil would be a good thing.
GA needs to draft Herman Cain for Governor!!!
We must defeat SOCIALISM a.k.a Democrats!!!!

From News that I have heard about candidates running Governor.
A) Phil Gingrey - he has hired his former chief of staff to run the race. Might cause a problem since his wife works for Casey
B) Roy Barnes - A certain well known and well published professor of Pol Sci. in Athens confirmed a call from Roy about this topic at a recent meeting.
C) Speaker Glen Richardson - needs to keep his zipper up (There is talk that he has a new “hottie”) Anyone have any confirmation on this one?

Oh Lord! Please spare us. Remember, Mr. Westmoreland was the one who cosponsored some legislation involving the Ten COmmandments, and when asked on the Colbert Report to name the ‘Ten’, he could name only TWO!! No thanks Mr. Westmoreland!!

This guy is a joke! His presence in Congress puts a face on what happens with an inattentive or ignorant electorate.

I am a very Strong suppoter of Ralph Reed and I think he would make a fine Governor! He is highly educated, young, hard working, and is a natural leader! Just what this state needs in the crsis we now find ourselves! Education, transportation, health, water, and on and on Georgia is in deep trouble!
Those readers that dosen’t think that Ralph Reed can lead this state need to make your case! Oh yes and put your candidate name in the Ring before the Bell rings!

Westmoreland - the missing link? Or an offshoot of the chimpanzee tree?
The kkklown is probably the most ignorant slob in Congress.
Problem is, he represents the people of Georgia perfectly.

he has a right to run - there is no requirement that the governor has to be familiar with the Ten Commandments.

Lynn is my Congressman, and I fear the day I may have to call him Governor! I may a PROUD (and loyal) moderate republican, but I would have to vote for Roy before Lynn.
Is IQ is far too low to run a hot dog stand, and God knows what he would/could do to this state.
On the plus side, we (3rd congressional district) may get a new rep.
