A word from Max Cleland about that 2002 campaign
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Former Georgia senator Max Cleland makes a rare self-reference to his 2002 defeat by Republican Saxby Chambliss in an e-mailed letter to raise money for Democratic senate campaigns.
“Our opponents put my picture next to Osama bin Laden and said I wouldn’t keep America safe. They told us to ignore John Kerry’s combat medals. And now, they’re whispering about Barack Obama,” Cleland writes, on behalf of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. “You and I know this kind of garbage is coming soon to Senate races around the country. It’s despicable, but it sometimes works.”
The letter, published Wednesday, is intended to help the DSCC raise $1.1 million in August.
Cleland has kept a relatively low profile recently. He did try to attend the Barack Obama event in Cobb County last month, only to be disinvited because of his new status as a lobbyist.
Still, the Senate letter prompted an obvious question: Will Cleland take an active role in the fall campaigns?
The answer, from Cleland himself, is no. “I’m hunkered down lower than a chicken in a south Georgia hailstorm,” he said this afternoon.

The difference between 2002 and now are that Chambliss has a record to explain and defend and whether Georgia will continue to accept his politics of division, conflict, and cynicism.
Because of disappointment and poor performance of Republicans in general, and Chambliss in particular, this year’s Senatorial election in Georgia will reject fear, distractions, and diversions.
Nothing that Chambliss’s 4 million plus war chess can throw at Jim Martin will undermine Georgia’s electorate’s desire for relief of the Republican caused pain.

RJ, shouldn’t you be out shopping for dresses or something? Get real. Max Cleland was a total cake eater. He would have been an excellent senator if he were living in VERMONT! Chambliss is a champion against the rising tide of socialism which pervades every aspect of the modern Democrat party. And let’s not even start on Cleland’s Chamberlain-esque approach to foreign policy. I can’t for the life of me understand how you Democrats can sleep at night knowing that your party is invested in our defeat abroad just to make a political point because you disagree with Bush and would rather see a milquetoast Carter like approach to dealing with every tin horn dictator and tyrant across the globe. Screw the men and woman that have sacrificed their lives and given up so much to battle against Islamo-facist terrorist, the liberal Democrats want to see us in full retreat all so that they can say “I told you so!” Once that is achieved then your party can divert funds from the military to funnel to the unproductive dregs of society. The parasites that will vote Democrat again and again while your party siphon off more and more in this great social redistribution of wealth. Absolutely pathetic.

Robby, please refrain from showing off your GA public skool edumacation. You have no idea what you’re talking about.
How’s that Bush presidency working out for us? When they are not laughing all the way to the bank b/c of oil prices, Putin/Chavez/Ahmadinejad are thanking their lucky stars that Bush & Cheney have been handling America’s energy policy for the last eight years. I wonder if bin Laden is thankful that Bush started a war in Iraq so that the terrorits in Afghanistan could go free.
McCain promises four more years of Bush. No thanks.

Sorry guys, I’m on a break from a project at work. I’ve been putting in overtime and will probably need to be doing more of that to help pay more taxes for the dead beats President Obama will want to put on the public doll once he gets into office.

Max,
The victimhood thing ain’t working for you any longer. I suppose it’ll open doors for you in your new role as a lobbyist, but I thought lobbyists were next to child molesters in terms of respectability—at least according to EGObama.
If the lobbyist thing doesn’t work out for you, you can always be a community organizer—which as everybody knows is all the credentials one needs to be president.
BTW, I loved EGObama’s Rodney King-like stance on the Russia-Georgia conflict: “Can’t we all just get along?”
It’s true: A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

Defending Saxby Chambliss??? Didn’t you guys hear? Rush Limbaugh threw him under the bus last week. He and the other Republicans in the Gang of 10 are the devil’s spawn, so there will be no positive talk about them until they knuckle under and give Rush what he wants.

In case no one has noticed, Chambliss is the least effective Senator Georgia has had in two generations. He was Bush’s lap dog for six years (with nothing to show for it) and now tries to change his stripes and pretend to be an independent.
He can try to attach himself to the Group of Ten now but we know he spent the last six years coddling oil lobbyists to pass tax breaks for Exxon, supporting a $10 billion a month war in Iraq while Osama bin Laden lives free and hasn’t done thing one for the people of Georgia.
Time for a change.

Rarl Kove —What special interest is Saxby working for with the gang of 10 TRAITORS?? We all know Saxby doesn’t work for free.. Do you think Rush or Neal did the better job on Saxby. Personally it sounded equally bad on both programs.

The interview with Ruch was fine. Saxby may not be the best conservative Senator in the world, but he is far better than the democratic alternative. If, God forbid, Obama wins I definately do not want him to have a 60 vote majority in the Senate. I am strategic voter. I am looking at the big picture and I will vote for Saxby in november.
For the record, I went to college with Bo Chambliss. He is a great guy and I wish him great success in his life.

You got Max rerunning the 02 race. You have got the entire democratic party rerunning 2000 and 2004 races against Bush. These are good things. The longer they are stuck in the past the better for the Republican party.

Rarl Kove —My last post was over the top I would delete it if I could. There is no way Obama will win unless something like the gang of 10 Traitors taks hold. He may win the popular but will lose the electorial. Obama will run up large margins in the big (Cal., N.Y.,* Ill)states but McCain will win close in the traditional states & a few swing states. Obama has to be polling 7-9% over McCain to overcome the “Ford” effect. I will not vote for Saxby, I did once or more correctly voted against Max. Saxby in 1 person shows what is wrong with our party since he is owned by Special Interest he will not work with McCain to cut spending & waste. I will probably decide when I push the voting machine which of The “None of the Above” Candidates I’ll vote for although I am leaning to Allen.
