Obama going up on television in Georgia — see the ad here

The Barack Obama campaign just confirmed that the Democratic presidential presumptive will be going up on television Friday in 18 states, including Georgia.

It’s the first general election TV ad by a presidential candidate in Georgia.

The 60-second spot is entitled “Country I Love.” Here’s a first look:

In addition to Georgia, the Obama campaign is airing the ad in Alaska, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Virginia.

Those familiar with the purchase say it looks to be aimed at rural areas, but you’ll also notice a heavy blue-collar tone. Many of the images were first used in primary states, but they haven’t been seen here.

The TV ad places in a larger picture that radio ad that Obama has just cut for U.S. Rep. John Barrow. Here’s the audio on it, just released.

In the radio ad, this is the active line from Obama: “We’re going to need John Barrow back in Congress to help change Washington and get our country back on track. He’s already standing up to the lobbyists and the Republicans who go right down the line with George Bush.”

Go to the jump for the entire radio script.

OBAMA: “This is Barack Obama, and I want to ask you to join me in supporting Congressman John Barrow for re-election in the Democratic primary on Tuesday, July 15th.

“We’re going to need John Barrow back in Congress to help change Washington and get our country back on track. He’s already standing up to the lobbyists and the Republicans who go right down the line with George Bush.

“Now we need him in Congress to help reduce gasoline prices, provide access to affordable health care for every American, and create good paying jobs here in Georgia and all across our country.

“Together, we can get that done, because John is not afraid to take a tough stand to do what’s right. Again, I’m Barack Obama and I urge you to vote for John Barrow on Tuesday, July 15th. “

BARROW: “I’m Congressman John Barrow, running for re-election, and I approved this message. Announcer: Paid for by Friends of John Barrow.”

And yes Congress can reduce gasoline prices by allowing us to look for oil elsewhere and not be so dependent on foreign oil. So Dubya, if the idea that congress can influence gas prices is assinine why are the right begging them to open Alaska and offshore areas for drilling? That would make no difference right? It would be “Assinine”.

Most agree that part of the problem is a weak dollar (Crude is dealt worldwide in Dollars) so congress can can do nothing about that either?

Under Nixon we had price controls but they were a disaster. Congress could reduce the price of gas today by eliminating the $.51 per gallon duty on imported Ethanol but That will never happen. Our Congress is just for sale if you have the price.

When I had ECON 101 we were taught that in the free market price was set by demand & the decision to sell was set by cost. I do not think these rules have changed. At the local gas stations the selling price of gas actually dropped today probably because they could not sell it at $4.059.

Scooter said the following

“Not making excuses, did he really say that in the ad?

-Scooter we need a government that won’t drag us into trillion dollar wars(ultimately) that should never have been fought. I bet you don’t care that 23 billion dollars in Iraq has been lost, stolen or otherwise unaccounted for.

-The Republican Party has done severe damage to our country and can ultimately claim responsibilty for our recession, failed foreign policy and the general level of discontent in our country.

-Scooter you probably don’t complain too much about the billions we gave to bail out savings and loans fatcats in the 80’s, or the 27 billion given to the now indictment played Bear and Sterns or the 23 billion dollars that the Republican led goverment has lost, had stolen, or can’t account for in Iraq. It’s only when someone who makes a 250,000 or less benefits from the government that people like you complain.

-Because of the damage the morons that Scooter no doubt voted for we could use some “Hope and Change” from our government.

It’s great to share ideas (debate). However, I think that there is one thing we all can agree on…. “We as a Nation are far worst off today, than we were 8 years ago!” That’s not debatable..that’s reality. A smart person once said: “It’s a poor wind that want change”

Michelle unpatriotic….spoiled American whites crack me up. Is it patriotic to manipulate intelligence & start an unjust war and send thousands of American’s soldiers to die? Is outsourcing AMERICAN jobs to India or Mexico patriotic? When Enron & Worldcom employees woke up broke, busted & disgusted with no 401k, was that patriotic? Was America being patriotic when they were throwing stones & shouting racial slurs to CHILDREN while refusing to intergrate southern schools? Then America has the audicity to think that those children who are now Rev’s Wright age have no side effects from the Jim Crow era. Was Michelle’s 1st roommate at Princeton being patriotic after learning that her roommate was black, she & her entire familly demanded a housing change?

Do you think that a child who grew up on the south side of Chicago is going to see America through the same eyes as a child growing up with Cindy McCain’s wealth? Take race out of it, it’s a poor child vs a rich child. Before you judge the Obama’s, you have to understand their life. Not matter how Fox want to spin it, being black in America is a lot different than white.

Please be careful about voting for someone based on their skin tone, whether it be black or white. Look what happened in Clayton County, the entire elected county officials elected based on race only. Don’t vote because of what they look like, or whether they are Democrat or Republican, vote based on what they have done already, they can say what they are going to do, but politicians go back on their word all the time. So look back, see what they have done, what they voted for or didn’t vote for and let your intellect make the choice not your eyes.

as a black male i’m quite disturbed with senator obama’s father day address crticizing black male as not being responsible for their families financially/emotionally.he accused black males of acting like boys rather than men.i will not support obama due to the fact he does not address the black electorate concerns.he takes it for granted that our votes belongs to him automatically without him having to work for the votes.would obama have addressed concerns such as admonishing white males and hispanic males.i think not.he criticizes black males to draw praise from other groups.we as blacks need to view this man as to what he stands for rather than being so gun ho as to having a man of color occupy the white house.

Yeah,I agree that being black in America is a lot different. There was a lot awful things done to people as our great country was growing. But now some of the differences for blacks are glaringly obvious. The average black male thinks the world owes everything to him because he is black. He thinks he is not responsible for any of his actions, such as impregnating as many females ,regardless of age ,that he can.Average blacks make up a higher percentage of our welfare load. The mama’s just sit back, dropping kids and collecting their RIGHTFUL money!!! It’s owed to them because they are black. Your average black child can get away with just about anything in school or anywhere esle, because people (whites) are afraid to stand up to them because THAT’S being racist!!!! How many other race’s just look for any reason to start a riot so they can loot and plunder???

Look at how Freaknic finally got out of control. Not just kids having a spring fling, but thug mentality(some student, some others) wanting to harrass and try and take something from someone else!!

The Buckhead bar district was a cool place to be,hangout ,drink and party for years! It was safe.Until the black population of Party goers move in.Then crime ran rampant. Now the move is to shut Buckhead down, because of the crime rate!!!

Need I say more?? There is a lot more, but nobody wants to hear anything negative about our BLACK run city……

There had better be more than hope for a strategy if Obama or McCain get in office.

The rising cost of fuel is doing more than just strangling the US economy. It might not be a good long term strategy to increase our own domestic capabilities, but raising taxes is NOT a strategy either.

WE need to be drilling domestically and simultaneously increasing alternative and more efficient cars NOW! Both Repubs and Dems have had a big hand in creating this mess!!

I haven’t heard either candidate offer up a solution that will help resolve this problem in the near term…if this isn’t resolved soon we can bend over and kiss our butts & economy good bye!

Pretty sad when a candidate for the President of the United States of America has to run an ad pledging his allegiance to our country.

Let’s see, who should I vote for? A war hero OR a guy who won’t wear a flag pin or put his hand over his heart during the pledge; his wife, preacher, donors (some), have openly shown disdain for this country.

Ok Dawn. If you are a Republican, and you can see past the flaws I’ve stated above. Here’s one of many examples why Obama is not fit for President. He recently called for a windfall profit tax on big oil companies. Fact: Oil companies are taxed at %45 compared to %30 of other industries. Penalizing companies for profiting is not the answer. Oil companies need profits to - guess what - drill for more oil. Less profits = less oil = higher prices = more dependence on foriegn oil. John McCain has said he wants to start drilling for more oil. Will it have an immediate impact. NO. We need to do it sooner or later. The problem is I’ve been doing my homework and it scares the hell out of me that people will vote for a candidate because of his race and great speeches about “change”!

When “W” was running in 2000 he was quizzed by a journalist on world leaders and he had no clue who most of them were. “W” didn’t know the difference between Shiites and Sunnis until plans were already being moved forward. Here’s a great clip of McCain confusing Shiites and Sunni terrorist groups.

-I’m a white male and I find it laughable how yall think blacks are blindly following Obama. As late as January Obama was behind against Hillary among black voters in South Carolina and Georgia. Obviously they weren’t blindly voting for the black guy. He had to work hard to win the support of the black community.

*Rasmussen and most of the pollsters are underindexing Obama’s key groups in Geogia in their polls and the Obama people know it.

-18-29 year olds in Georgia are 60-30 in favor of Obama and this group will provide Obama with a couple hundred thousand vote margin on November 3rd. Democrats carried this group nearly 2 to 1 on February 5th and Georgia had the greatest increase in youth voting of all Feb 5th states.

-In 2004 only 52% of registered African Americans voted and this is expected to rist to 80%+ and yeild and extra quarter million votes out of existing registered voters. This is not counting widescale registration drives that Obama is doing statewide. McCain doesn’t have staff here and he probably won’t answer these ads by Obama. BTW, According to Pew Research Obama has now passed McCain in Florida and is leading beyond the margin of error in Ohio and by 12% in Pennsylvania.

McCain can’t afford to fight in Georgia with numbers like this, so Obama will continue to chip away at him and he may pull off a surprise. Either way it’s going to be too close for yall to be acting so arrogant. Most people in the country would disagree with the rhetoric of the conservatives on this blog and I think Georgia’s coming around to.

If you are taking care of YOUR kids, then he wasn’t speaking to you. However, the number of black men taking care of their kids to the number of any race taking care of their kids is significantly lower. I speak from experience. Now,now,Sam1234…You know as well as the rest of us that the white folks have done everything in their power and then some to keep the poor pitiful blacks surpressed..Rev Wright had all the evidence..Bush and the whites created the aids virus just to get rid of the black men, since such a large percentage of them enjoy “going down low”,just like Bush and the white wealthy managed to steer Katrina right into New Orleans. Then they blew up the levees..But it was funny to see the number of people pushing their rafts or anything that would float with their looted goodies, flat screen tv’s,cases and cases of liquor and numerous pairs of designer jeans!!!!

Then they trashed the super dome and anywhere else they were sent to live……

OK Frederick,I have to assume that all of those people were serial killers, axe murderers or something of that horrendous nature..And I guess they were white?? What is the moral behind your list?? There is a plethora of deviants in this world, black and white..We have a real good one right here in hometown Atlanta. A guy named Nichols that killed several people in cold blood right in a courthouse where he was on trial for rape!! And it will cost untold millions (for the greedy lawyers and because of the rights whiners) for this bottom feeder to get a trial. And then millions more to keep him in jail. All of that money will come from you and I.

I’m sorry,I digress..

What was your point with the deviant list???

For Yall, I care about the money spent on the war on terrorism, but I don’t want the islamic terrorists over HERE taking away Our rights.

I’m not sure what I’m missing with (I bet thinking about it doesn’t know that blacks are porportionately represented in the miltary with black women outnumbering white women porportionately by a large amount.) Our armed forces are all volunteer, and are some of the finest and most well educated individuals in the country. I am very proud for what they have done..

Despite War Costs, Defense Spending Falls Below Historical Average..

At 4 percent of GDP, defense spending is 1.5 percentage points of GDP below the 45-year historical average and well below Cold War and Vietnam War levels.(Source:The Herritage Foundation)

I am proud that the welfare rolls have been trimmed of some of the deadbeats, crackheads and leeches.Even if the crime rate did rise a little while the leechs had to agjust to not getting a free check every month. I’m proud Slick Willy was able to keep his pants up long enough to address that.I just widh he had done more to protect us against terroris (The bombing at TWC,the attack on the USS COLE, etc)

I believe the percentage is closer to 20% on welfare, but I’d have to reasearch to make sure.I’ll have to believe Yall.

The Federal Reserve and the Treasury Department have orchestrated the rescue of Bear Stearns. The defenders of that maneuver argue that if Bear Stearns had failed it would have created a lot of collateral damage, so much collateral damage, that you and I, normal folk who don’t know anything about high-falutin’ financial instruments like “collateralized debt obligations” would have been engulfed as well. If Bear Stearns had gone bankrupt, Lehman Brothers might have been next.(Source:NPR (National Public Radio)

How far would the ripple effecthave gone??

And the bailout for individual mortgaes. The gov’t pushed lenders into making the subprime loans at th insistence of thr groups wanting homes available to everyone.By pushing this onto the lenders, people with limited funds,no jobs or welfare only incomes, could buy a home at an inflated appraisal with less qualifying. KABOOM a chicken in every pot and mor votes for the donkey people helping out THE POOR!!!

And I do not object to anyone POOR or otherwise getting ahead and making a better life for themselves. I just don’t want it done the same way as it is done in Communist,Socialistic areans. Taking from the more well off and redistributing to the bottom feeders.

And I am male, white, retired after 33 yrs in communications world(hourly, rank and file worker),small business owner(just ME),with no retirement (lost in tech crash and bad decisions) and NO help from the government. So I don’t owe the donkey people my vote for anything…..

Obama will not win in November because all he has to offer are the failed socialist ideas that Europe is now having to run away from.

The Democrats have nominated the least qualified candidate for President in modern history. I have to think that the majority of Americans will come to this conclusion as they begin to pay attention and come to know his extreme radical views.

Should he be successful, however, it will signal the beginning of the end of the greatest country this world has ever known.

Polls at this stage mean nothing. four years ago Kerry was ahead, 8 years ago Gore was ahead, in 1992 Ross Perot was ahead, and in 1988 Dukakis was 17 points ahead of Bush.

The ads the 527 groups will run in October will have a massive impact.

Public Perceptions of Obama and McCain Shifting Rapidly

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/publiccontent/politics/election20082/2008presidentialelection/publicperceptionsofobamaandmccainshifting_rapidly

In December, before the Iowa caucuses launched Obama’s successful campaign for the nomination, the Illinois Senator was seen as politically liberal by 47% of voters nationwide. By April, that number had grown to 54%. Today, 67% see him as politically liberal including 36% who say he is Very Liberal.

A similar pattern is seen for John McCain. The presumptive Republican nominee was seen as politically conservative by 31% of all voters in December, by 41% in April, and by 67% today. Just 19% say he is Very Conservative.

These numbers reflect much more movement than was seen by the more established candidates running four years ago. While the number seeing Obama as liberal has already shifted by twenty percentage points, John Kerry’s numbers shifted just eight points in a roughly comparable time frame. Kerry was seen as politically liberal by 37% in January 2004 and by 45% in May 2004. By the end of Election 2004, 53% saw Kerry as politically liberal.

Where do the voters stand in all of this? Thirty-six percent (36%) say they are politically conservative, including 16% who say they are Very Conservative. Thirty-seven percent (37%) say they are politically moderate and 25% claim to be politically liberal. That last figure includes 8% who are Very Liberal.

Conflicting reports about Obama’s religion. Read the entire article. I have included only snip its

http://web.israelinsider.com/views/12917.htm

First is his childhood background. Last November, his campaign website carried a statement with the headline:

Barack Obama Is Not and Has Never Been a Muslim

followed by

Obama never prayed in a mosque. He has never been a Muslim, was not raised a Muslim, and is a committed Christian.

Obama has also said:

I’ve always been a Christian

and

I’ve never practised Islam. But none of this is true. As is explored in detail on Daniel Pipes’s website, Obama was enrolled at his primary schools in Indonesia as a Muslim; he attended the mosque during that period; his friends from that time testify that he was a devout Muslim boy. A former teacher at one of these schools, Tine Hahiyary, remembers a young Obama who was quite religious and actively took part in “mengaji” classes which teach how to read the Koran in Arabic. The blogger from Indonesia who reported this commented:

“Mengagi” is a word and a term that is accorded the highest value and status in the mindset of fundamentalist societies here in Southeast Asia. To put it quite simply, “mengaji classes” are not something that a non practicing or so-called moderate Muslim family would ever send their child to… The fact that Obama had attended mengaji classes is well known in Indonesia and has left many there wondering just when Obama is going to come out of the closet.

His father was a Muslim, as was his stepfather. His grandfather was a Muslim convert. His wider family appear to have been largely devout Muslims. Yes, we only know about Obama?s early years as a Muslim; and yes, twenty years ago he became a Christian. The issue, however, is why he has been less than candid about his early background and his family. Indeed, he appears to have actively deceived the public about it. That is why the blogosphere is so exercised about it.

Obama is a “sleeper” Muslim. I have no doubt. Look at his background. Look at his reluctance to leave a hate filled, quasi-Christian, Calypso Louie Faraahkan supporting, America loathing, crazy eyed preacher church of his. There is no Christianity being taught in that place, for sure. If he was a Christian it would not have taken 20 years to reject that Islam-lite, hate filled doctrine. Like I said… I have no doubt the man is a Muslim. He wouldn’t know Christianity if it came right up and shook his bony hand.

Whether or not you think Obama is a muslim is a white trash test. If you believe it or even think it might be true you are 100% certified white trash.

Furthermore, it’s in the Constitution of the United States that there is to be no religious test for office. Obviously, voters are free to to do that, but this religious test “voters” are putting on candidates is a relatively new phenomenon, much like the revisionist history of the religious right. It’s people who manipulating Christinaity and mixing it with fringe right politics who are driving this b****** about Obama.

John and John Quincy Adams were Unitarians, Jefferson a deist and Madison and Monroe weren’t far from it, William Howard Taft was also a Unitarian. Our country didn’t seem to have a problem electing people with differing religious views until recent decades.

Obama isn’t a muslim or atheist, but it shouldn’t matter that much if he was. At least that kind of stuff didn’t matter that much from the founding of this country to the rise of the religious right in the 1970’s.

Do you have to be a Christian as a child to be a Christian now? That’s not how I thought it worked. I was baptised at 27, I thought that made me equal with any other Christian who had been in the flock since the age of three months. According to some of you the fact that Obama became a Christian 20 years ago isn’t good enough. In Africa a Muslim school may have been the only school option. In Boston or Chicago many children attend Catholic schools because they are better than the public schools, they may participate but they don’t have to be Catholic.

So the typical atypical politician is courting his white relatives now, all of a sudden the half-white part of Obama is manifesting itself. Oh my, what timing! He drug out all the old snapshots of him with any white people and himself that Kodac captured in his youth. His people asked two Muslim women in a photo shoot in Detroit not to sit directly behind Obama so photographs of him in a picture with two women in headscarfs would not be circulated on the internet. This is inclusive? There is no change to Obama; Obama is the typical politician saying and doing anything to get elected and so many fools are drinking the koolaide. Now they’re busy doing a softening and makeover on his bitter half, making her scoul less meaner looking and trying to make a rattlesnake look cozy, warm and fuzzy. There is no change about Obama, he is as Washington DC insider as they come and his refusal this early in the game to use federal funding shows what a flip flop and liar he is. He is another slick Willie Clinton in the making. The Obama campaign is a carbon copy of the first Clinton campaign but the scary thing is that Obama doesn’t have a tenth of the smarts the Clintons had, all he shares is the ambition without the brains. DH,

The last time I checked Iowa wasn’t that diverse and Obama did pretty well there. Obama is not injecting race into this campaign. It was other people both Democrats and Republicans who tried “Darken” Obama. The fact is he lived with his white grandparents from the time he was 9 until college. He is married to an African American women from the southside of the Chicage. He has had authetic black and white experience in America. DH you’re typical of a lot people on this board. People like you are just like the black activists you claim to hate in that you are consumed by race. America needs to move forward with race relations. Obama’s election will be a big step forward. He’s not exactly been uncritical of the African American community. Obama isn’t running as the black candidate. He is authetically black and white and I think that’s a lot of his appeal. The problem for him is that fringe right lunatics want to paint him as a closest muslim/black nationalist/america hater. That level of argument belongs more in a middle school lunch room, rather than a blog among adults.

I’m sick of the blame Republicans are trying to put on the Democrats for the high gas prices. The only ones to blame here are oil companies and speculators.

Fact: Morgan Stanley owns the most oil in the world and effectively are artificially raising oil prices by “forecasting” oil futures and bidding prices up.

Fact: U.S. oil companies are already leasing thousands of proven well sites both on-shore and off-shore in the US, and are sitting on it. They like to blame environmentalists on denying permits to increase capacity, but only 1 refinery application has been requested in the last 25 years and it has been granted! They already have plenty of access to oil here but are sitting on it to keep the price from falling. They also have no rigs available to acquire it and no additional tankers to transport it. The idea that Republicans OR Democrats are to blame is silly. When they decide to invest in the assets they already have, then we can discuss offshore drilling, etc.

Of course he attended Islamic school in Indonesia. It’s the country with the largest Muslim population in the world. It’s absurd to extrapolate his religious identity based on attending school as a boy in Indonesia.

Also - do each of you practice the same religion of your parents and grandparents? Do you adhere to the same beliefs of those who came two generations before you? Do you follow the same political affiliations?

Is it that hard to believe that Barack Obama may simply be someone who lived in a Muslim country as a boy but is an American who practices Christianity? I studied in France for years and I most certainly am not a Catholic.

Let’s challenge ourselves to appreciate the nuances in each others lives rather than buying into the propaganda.

I am appalled that people complain that Obama actually has new ideas and can speak about them. What is the alternative, a president who needs his vice president and advisors to do his thinking for him! You see what that got Bush into. At least in Bush’s case, it was kind of convenient. He fires Rove and Rumsfeld, it was all their fault we didnt win the war we already declared we won. You dont need experience at repeating the same dumb mistakes we always did. We need someone bright enough to see past the usual ways of doing things. I love Obama’s plan for medical system improvement. You put the whole negotiation on TV, so the interest groups cannot do their nasty thing behind closed doors. That’s what stopped Hillary. I love the right wing ‘take’ on Obama, that he is socialist. The alternative is to leave millions of people with no coverage. Charming for supposedly Christian people. They seem to forget Christianity the minute they walk out the church door. Remember, we can lift up those less fortunate than ourselves. It does mean that persons making over $250K per year will pay more social security tax than persons making $50K. See? And Obama also speaks the news that he will lower taxes on those families that are under the poverty limit set by Bush’s staff. It makes no sense for us to tax the 10 million who live below the poverty level. Yes, that is probably socialist, and if you are actually Christians, not just in name only, this is how you should be: take care of those less fortunate. As things are set up now, the Reagan trickle down tax theory, that Bush I called VOODOO economics, is in full effect. In voodoo economics, Bush II gives a tax CUT to the 1% making the most. Obama will end that tax cut and hand it to the officially poor making less than the federal standard for ‘below poverty’. Thank you Obama, for decency and honesty about thsi issue. Above, there’s a post full of lies and innuendo, the mark of the right wing, with no sense of honesty, mere propaganda. Let’s take a look these false claims: “Nuance, Schmoouance. Most people agree that Obama is the only Muslim candidate for President. The reason Obama may have a slight lead in polls is because of the current rate of Muslim activism. The muslims love Obama. That worries me. 1. “Most” people do not agree that Obama is a Muslim. While right wing lies have circulated on this blog for a year only 10% of the public believes that lie. 2. Muslim activism has no bearing on the polls in states where there are no Muslims. Only Michigan has significant number of non-black Muslims.
3. It worries the author that Muslims love Obama. Is that true? Or is the point to make other’s worry? And worry about what, specifically? Anyone notice that in some Muslim countries, there is now a receptivity to the US that Bush was not able to accomplish by war! Would it really worry you if we have to have peace in the middle east? This last one is the typical worst case right wing claim. They are vaguely worried about something with no reason behind it, just to amp up the anxiety in racist, prejudiced people. 4, Finally, the best part, the opening remark, “Nuance, schmooance”. They mean, dont bother my pretty little head with subtle distinctions. They are apparently not capable of discriminating between fine points. Only able to be hit upon the head with a blunt instrument. Ok, try this, you are demonstrating the need for IQ testing to be allowed to register to vote. If you cannot make fine distinctions you will forever damn this country to be led by the nose by demagogues and you and your kind will vote in monsters who do treason in your name, such as Bush II, willing to use lies to the Senate and false insinuation, like your post is, to win a vote. Fie on you. Go back to Russia, where your kind is STILL welcome. This is a democracy and you still have to think.
