Talk of Nunn as veep is unnerving some gay Democrats
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
In the vice presidential sweepstakes, Sam Nunn has become a kind of default setting for those mulling Barack Obama’s choices.
David Brooks of the New York Times is the latest in the mainstream media to note that the former Georgia senator would compliment Obama’s lack of experience:
”Sam Nunn and Tom Daschle seem to fit the bill. Nunn is one of those senior Democrats (like David Boren and Bob Kerrey) who left the Senate lamenting the dumbed-down nature of modern politics. Daschle was more partisan as majority leader, but he is still widely trusted and universally liked. As experienced legislators, both could take Obama’s lofty hopes and translate them into nitty-gritty action.”
Again, Nunn says it’s highly improbable that Obama would reach out to him as a running mate. Even so, the speculation has unnerved some sectors of the traditional Democratic vote.
On his blog, gay activist Wayne Besen portrays Nunn as the “crass” force behind the military’s Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy established in the 1990s:
”For those who don’t remember, candidate Bill Clinton promised to repeal the ban on openly gay service members. As president, he tried to follow through and a national uproar ensued. The opposition from conservative Republicans was to be expected, but Nunn’s fingerprints were all over the bloody knife that protruded from Clinton’s back .
“When it comes to the idea of Sam as Veep, I’m having Nunn of it. Beyond his DADT disaster, the senator’s weakening of Clinton helped enable and propel the Gingrich revolution in 1994 - a huge setback for gay and lesbian equality ..
“[I]t is crucial that Obama’s gay staff members make it clear to the candidate how unacceptable Nunn would be. The campaign shouldn’t even float his name unless it is attached to a runaway blimp drifting towards outer space.”

We must learn to think as Jefferson and Adams in their “Post Road Correspondence” teaches us…by factional analysis.
David Brooks is a creation of the late Knight of Malta, uber-Roman Catholic William F. Buckley. He has zero interest in displacing the status quo Roman Anti-Christ Buckley helped take over America…and neither does Nunn.
Jim Webb is the right VP for President Obama.
All we need do is keep the Bushite faction from assassinating him as they did Kennedy and King.
Obama sings America’s Song. We, the People, must make him elect to get about the business of adjudicating and extirpating BushCo’s treason.

I don’t understand why they feel that way about him. If Obama wants Nunn as his VP, then Obama will pick him. Either way gays are going to vote for democrats any way. They are not going to vote republican that’s for sure.

Look I made Tom, who claims to be conservative, mad. I am just pointing out that your party, Tom, if rife with all kinds of ism’s. You guys, on the left, have been lecturing conservatives for decades. We have been told how all Republicans are racist, sexist, bigoted, homophobes. But this primary season has shown the world that it is the Democrat Party that is infested with the hate that you accuse us of harboring. Anyway, Hillary is not getting out of the primary. She is going to take this to Denver. Ya’ll have one heckuva problem. The best part of this is the disenfranchisement that your own party is enforcing on its own lib-democrat voters.
Dr. Dean has been one great Democrat Chairman, wouldn’t you say. You guys can hate me, hate Bush, hate McCain all you want to. But your problems are self imposed. It begs the question, if Democrats cannot fairly pick a nominee, can they possibly govern? Peace.

Churchill did you see this endorcement from your Hero, the owner of FOX??
Kara Swisher and Walt Mossberg had a long day of grilling executives at their All Things Digital Conference. But they saved Rupert Murdoch — their Wall Street Journal overlord — for last. The highlight? Murdoch’s not-quite-but-almost endorsement of Barack Obama for president.
The founder — and defender — of Fox News said he expected Obama to win in a landslide, citing widespread unhappiness with the current administration and his disenchantment with Republican contender John McCain. Murdoch added that after a long career in the Senate, McCain had been forced to compromise too much and doesn’t stand for much. Murdoch even nonchalantly owned up to influencing the New York Post to back Obama in the New York primary.
During the Q&A, I pressed Murdoch — a new U.S. citizen — on whether he would actually vote for Obama in November. He said he was leaning toward it, but would know in the next six months. When I asked if I could call him, he said yes, then joked I could probably just figure it out from reading the Post.
I also asked Murdoch about reports that he said he would buy the New York Times if he had the opportunity, just to shut it down. He said he was kidding, but likely Times staffers in the audience shuddered.
I caught up with Kara of the WSJ and All Things D once they got offstage to discuss her newfound admiration for the outspoken mogul — not to mention Alaskan elk.

Libs are haters. They will not engage an argument. Perhaps, they have no defense. They just rely on name calling. For me, that means I have hit a nerve. I love when libs act like public school educated children. Peace.

Keith, I am a gay male and I am not voting Democrat this year. I also know others like myself who intend on voting for McCain. McCain is a man we can vote for. We’re smart enough to know he is not another four years of Bush. We’re smart enough to know you should not ever take our vote for granted. I can think outside the box and I have no fear of McCain being my President. I know several gay friend over the age of forty that plan on voting for McCain this year. Did I vote for Bush? Hell no. But I will vote McCain. If he adds Rudy to the tucket, plan on many more like myself to cross lines this year. No one should ever assume and take your vote for granted, they have to rean it. There’s a huge difference.

Yo, there were like two people who were right on DADT, and that’s Barney Frank and Barry Goldwater. Frank we don’t need on the ticket and Goldwater is dead. If Nunn can salute on Obama’s more progressive policies on civil unions and ending DADT, I think he’s quite a strong choice. If not, to hell with him.

David Boren resigned from the U.S. Senate in 1994. At that time he had two years remaining on this third term. In the preceding year the gay press had begun to out him and accuse him of sexually harassing his male staff members. Go here for scans of publications about Boren in the gay press.
