A quick word from Bob Barr

Denver — Bob Barr is sitting in the back of the Georgia delegation section of the Libertarian Convention. He’s listening to his friend Richard Viguerie, a Libertarian and conservative stalwart, give the keynote address of the second day of the 2008 Libertarian National Convention.

Before Vigurie spoke, however, Barr said in a brief interview that there are many differences between this convention and the Republican conventions he was more familiar with as a four-term congressman from Georgia.

“Here, people want to talk about policy, and issues,” Barr said. “At Republican conventions anymore, it’s all about who has how much money. This is like what Republican conventions used to be like.”

Some aspects of political conventions are universal, however, as Barr will host a cocktail reception tonight at the hotel.

Viguerie is a virulent Roman Catholic: the opposite of libertarian. Barr is a fraud and no-man.

Barr, so far, seems like a decent guy. Personally, I’ve never thought of the libertarian philosophy of governance as a religion. The way some neo-libertarians treat Barr, it seems it has become a collectivist cult rather than a party whose goal is to change policy in the government propelling it back to its Constitutional origin.

Thanks for covering the 2008 LP convention. I am a former member and a bitter EX democrat. I dont ever remember the AJC covering the LP convention, except maybe within a few days of it happening, so Mr. Barr has succeeded and his words above about the way Rs used to be is exactly totally on target. Still, we will WRITE IN RON PAUL in November!

The true libertarian philosophy of governance is the “civil religion” of Americanism: Annuit Coeptis (Do you believe there is more than a single Creator G-d?); E Pluribus Unum (Isaiah 2:2); and Novus Ordo Seclorem (Solve what seems paradoxical and know the Truth).

Which wife was it Vietnam draft-dodger Barr made get an abortion?

Thank you for covering this convention. It is a shame that CNN or Foxnews is not covering it, but it is by design since they know millions of Americans would gravitate towards Bob Barr if they did put it on TV . I’m hoping for a BARR/GRAVEl ticket myself

You are welcome RP Supporter & Jon. Here at the paper we live to cover the major stories. That’s why when Hillary refers to RFK getting shot while defending her staying in the race, we ignore that kind of “non story.” But let Barr launch some fools errand, and we are all over it. Courage!!

So the former Republican Bob Barr is angling for the libertarian presidential nomination? Big deal! There is a story going around in Fannin County that Mr. Barr for some unknown reason sealed a bunch of inditements in a voter fraud case up here that sent s couple of folks to Federal prison while serving as U.S. Attorney in the late 1980’s. Hope it is not true but it might be worth checking into. Anyone who runs for the country’s highest office needs to be thoroughly vetted…even if he doesn’t have a snowball’s chance of winning.

Ron Paul is running on the republican ticket for president and has been supressed at every level by local republicans. Is there a way Bob Barr and his constituents can broker with Ron Paul and his supporters and make a deal with the republicans to back McCain given a strong movement towards libertarian principles on the republican national platform. Otherwise, we get the democrats and socialism that will slide our country into a mess we may never get out from under.

Ru Paul was rejected by Republicans on the local level because he was a Libertarian pretending to be a Republican. Ru Paul can call himself whatever he wants. I can call JoAnn Baird the smartest person in the world, but it doesn’t make it true. Ru Paul lost because he did not get enough support(kooks aside) or votes. It is that simple. Neiter Ru Paul or Bob Barr ever had or have a chance to win. Peace.

Churchill is obviously clueless. Ron Paul was the only real Republican in the race.

When I hear fascists like Churchill here accuse Congressman Paul of being a “Libertarian pretending to be a Republican,” I can’t help but think of the words of the late, great Ronald Reagan, who said, “When you analyze it, I believe libertarianism is the very heart and soul of conservatism.”

Of course, that was before neocons like Churchill warped the meaning of “Republicanism” into an authoritarian ideology of big government, belligerence, and big brother.
